Politics › Re: Shettima Visits Scene Of Bomb Blast At University Of Maiduguri (Photos) by Akell(m): 11:21pm On Jan 16, 2017*. Modified: 4:53pm On Jan 17, 2017 |
obiremy: Gov. Kashim Shettima Mourns University of Maiduguri Bomb Victims
Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima visited the scenes of suicide bombing in the University of Maiduguri earlier today.
He commiserated with the university community on the sad incident, especially the death of a professor of veterinary medicine, Aliyu Mani. The Governor called for stricter security within and around the university.
Meanwhile, the University of Maiduguri has suspended the ongoing first semester examinations for one day following the suicide bomb attacks that claimed the lives of four persons, including the professor.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Abubakar Njodi, said exams scheduled for Monday were suspended as the institution mourns those that died in the attack which left 15 other persons injured.
Mr. Njodi disclosed this when receiving His Excellency, Gov. Kashim Shettima, who led a delegation of the State Government on a condolence visit to the university.
“From the reports I have been receiving since morning, we have 15 people that have been taken to the hospital from the mosque where it happened. Two of those in the hospital are in critical conditions, of which one of them as I was made to understand is yet to be out of the operation theatre.
“We lost three persons; it was earlier reported to be two, but later the body of Professor Mani was discovered after others were taken to the hospital. That was why there were discrepancies in the figures”.
Apart from three people killed in the mosque bomb explosion, another suicide bomber was shot after which her explosive detonated killing her at another gate of the university, the police and the emergency agency, NEMA, have said.
Mr. Njodi said the university was lucky that the loss was not as colossal as it could have been had the second suicide bomber made her way to a populated area.
“The attackers were two”, he said. “One of them went to the mosque where he detonated his bomb and the other was spotted trying to scale the security before the bomb went off.
“So we have to suspend the exams today, because we could not have had a stable mind to go and write exams under this grieving condition. We had to suspend the exams to allow even the security do all the necessary checks they may want to do.”
The chief security officer of the university, Yakubu Ibrahim, a retired army major, said the second suicide bomber, a teenage girl, was spotted near the 5th Gate of the University.
He said she was seen speaking to herself, and when she was asked to identify herself, she detonated her bomb and killed herself. He did not, like the police, however admit she was shot before the explosion.
Governor Shettima commended the management on the suspension of examinations as he also promised to rebuild the destroyed mosque.
“It is highly commendable that you have suspended the exams for a day. This would allow the security to comb the nooks and crannies of the university in order to avert further occurrence.” he said.

Nasaski: Good day house, please would you advice me to do the NTI PGDE, with the accreditation issue they are having with NUC? Please I really need your reply and advice. Mr., I'll strongly advice you do. The accreditation issue is a farce. A beef... The NUC wants their palms to be greased. The National Policy on Education recognizes NTI. Besides, your certificate will not carry NTI. It used to be affiliated to one University in the North, but now it's NOUN. BEST OF LUCK!!! |

Romance › Should He Marry Her? by Akell(op): 10:53am On Nov 17, 2016*. Modified: 10:13pm On Nov 17, 2016 |
Good day all, this is not like any of my regular posts. Need useful and mature responses please. Thanks!
It all started in 2014 - in the first half of the year. John (not real name) met Victoria (not real name) on a social and faceless site, Nairaland.com. She had posted her number in the 'hookup section' where they got started. John never took Victoria serious at first, at least for the remaining half of the year. As at then, she stays in Kogi State and John's intention was to have an experience of an online date.
The months roll by and there was no communication between both. On John's part, it's understandable that he never wanted something serious. August same year, he left Abuja for his home state and the gap in communication broadened the more.
However, Victoria had just completed her University education and was posted down to Ekiti State, John's State of Origin. It was at this point that he 'decided' to call her and she intimated him about her NYSC posting. Immediately, well of joy surged up in John's heart and saw this as a confirmation that they were meant to be. He quickly bridged the gap and restored all communication - calling her more than 3 times a day.
[Fast forward] Victoria was out of camp and John was to pick her up at a particular location in the state capital. She was new to the state, hence, knew nowhere. He quickly lodged her in one of his "female friend's" house, where he later secured her an apartment.
In the year 2015, John travelled to Lagos and the communication was never lost again. They have this great affection for each other that the 'barrier' between them seem so insignificant to John. Late 2015, Victoria told John her mum desires to see him. He went to Kogi and spent a week there. She (Vic's mum) was so cheerful and full of life. She welcomed John with open arms. He had since then met other members of Vic's family except the eldest, whom he speaks with on phone. They love him and they never hid it.
Trouble started with John when in May 2015, during the burial ceremony of his paternal grandmother, his mum told him he can't marry Vic because of her size (almost 3x John). She gave several reasons like sudden death caused by hypertension among others. Greater trouble dawned on him when the barrier he never considered became a stumbling block. Victoria has a 2+ year old daughter.
John's parents had since January 2016 been capitalizing on that issue maintaining that he can't marry an 'after one'. But all of these never moved John. He was resolute on his decision. Of recent, his dad called him that if he is bent on marrying Vic, he (John's dad) is not ready to sign any document in favour of that.
My friend needs your candid advice. He's 28 and feels he is old enough to take vital decisions for himself. What should he do? Is it a crime marrying an 'after one'?
Help a bro, help a friend!

Yeah! As at them, it was one of the best. We share boundary / fence with Sagamu stadium. Constant electricity supply... But you should be careful with your phone o. Charging inside the dormitory is at owner's risk.
Life is sweet there... Especially cus of its closeness to Lagos. You might be lucky to have artistes come over. But in our time, our camp coordinator is one spirikoko someborri |

This thread is created mainly for the purpose of hookup.
I have observed that most people after the National Youth Service Corp scheme have lost the contacts of most of the friends they made while either in camp or at their various Places of Primary Assignment. I would like to say that I fall into this category. I met someone on nairaland.com just few weeks before camp... We met on camp and became friends. Shortly, I changed phone and the person's contact was no where to be found. Interestingly, few days ago I came across the person's moniker on a thread. It was such fun and joy reuniting with an old friend.
Again, this thread is also for those fun loving people out there who never had the time or guts to socialize with fellow Corp members. Such could be achieved via this thread.
This thread could also act as a fun arena where we could determine the state with the highest number of deployed NYSC members.
Current Corp members are also welcome.
Just input your 1. State of deployment, 2. Year and batch 3. PPA
