President Joe Biden used the 10th anniversary of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden — “a moment I will never forget” — to reaffirm his decision to remove all US troops from Afghanistan. “We followed bin Laden to the gates of hell — and we got him,” Biden said in a statement released by the White House. “We kept the promise to all those who lost loved ones on 9/11: that we would never forget those we had lost, and that the United States will never waver in our commitment to prevent another attack on our homeland.” Biden, who announced last month that he would end Washington’s longest war by September 11, praised then-president Barack Obama for his 2011 decision to approve the secret operation targeting the al-Qaeda leader, and praised the special forces who carried it out in Pakistan. Watching the operation remotely from a crowded White House Situation Room, Biden said, was “a moment I will never forget — the intelligence professionals who had painstakingly tracked him down; the clarity and conviction of President Obama in making the call; the courage and skill of our team on the ground.” Now, as the US begins pulling the last of its troops from Afghanistan, Biden said: “Al Qaeda is greatly degraded there. But the United States will remain vigilant about the threat from terrorist groups that have metastasized around the world. “We will continue to monitor and disrupt any threat to us that emerges from Afghanistan. And we will work to counter terrorist threats to our homeland and our interests in cooperation with allies and partners around the world.” AFP |
The Department of State Services has knocked those calling for the resignation of the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), over his failure to address the festering security crisis in the country. It described the critics as misguided elements and accused them of threatening the government, sovereignty, and corporate existence of the country. Notable Nigerians had flayed the President over his failure to curb the security crisis particularly, the Boko Haram insurgency, kidnapping, and banditry across the country. Also, Buhari’s erstwhile supporter, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Rev Fr. Ejike Mbaka had called on the National Assembly to impeach the President for incompetency if he failed to resign. But reacting to the avalanche of attacks on the President, the DSS spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya, said the main objective for the calls was the disintegration of the country. In a statement on Sunday titled, “DSS supports indivisible, united Nigeria, warns against unsavoury, inciting utterances,’ the secret service said it has noted, “their desperation and penchant to collaborate with external forces and influences against Nigeria.” The secret police stated, “The Department of State Services hereby condemns the unsavoury statements by misguided elements who have continued to threaten the government, sovereignty and corporate existence of this country. “Notable are the unnecessary vituperations and activities of some religious and past political leaders who have either called for a forceful change of government or mass action against it. “It has been established that the main objective for these is to cause a disintegration of the country. “It is unfortunate that those in the forefront of this are respectable individuals who should be patriotic and not allow their personal ambitions to ruin the nation. The Service has also noted their desperation and penchant to collaborate with external forces and influences against Nigeria.” Afunanya reminded the individuals that “even though democracy offers free speech, it does not give room to reckless pronouncements capable of undermining security.” The agency noted that the ballot box remained the vehicle of change in a democracy and warned “self-centred individuals and groups” to stop engaging in acts inimical to the peace and sovereignty of this nation. In the same manner, it admonished influential personalities to be sensitive to the emerging situations and guard against divisive and inciting utterances that may cause a breakdown of law and order. “Recently, the Service invited and cautioned some persons who deniably recounted their earlier statements or said they were quoted out of context. The public should be wary of such individuals and their co-travellers who, incite them in the open but turn in the secret to retrieve their words after they had caused the damage,” the statement said. While reaffirming its support to “an indivisible, indissoluble and united Nigerian State in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution,” the DSS said it will “no longer tolerate deliberate machinations by subversive and hostile groups whose agenda is to throw the country into anarchy so as to serve the interests of their sponsors.” The service said it was working with other security and law enforcement agencies to ensure the maintenance of peace and internal security of the country. |
The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission has granted approval for the Extraordinary Tariff Review applications, Performance Improvement Plan, and Capital Expenditure for electricity distribution companies. It disclosed this on Sunday in the NERC Order on Performance Improvement Plan and Extraordinary Tariff Review applications for power distributors operating in Nigeria. The commission said the PIP and Capital Expenditure programme shall take effect from July 1, 2021 and shall remain effective until June 30, 2026. It explained that the Discos had applied to the commission for a review of the provisions for Capital expenditure their various Multi-Year Tariff Order tariffs to support the implementation of their improvement plans over the next five years. The regulator noted that under the Power Sector Recovery Programme, it was envisaged that the commission would implement a robust tariff review process aiming at improving performance in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry. “This process involved a review of CAPEX allowances in MYTO model compliance with PIPs of the Discos,” it said. The NERC stated that the approved improvement plan and extraordinary tariff application shall form the basis for Discos to prioritise the implementation of their proposed capital expenditure initiatives. It noted that the approved improvement plans shall also form the basis for defining key performance index for the Discos over the five-year period. |

Good morning mommas. I've got this questions that need your experienced inputs. I have twins, a boy and a girl of 8 months old. They can't sit alone unsupported yet. I hope it's not too late. And I notice, the lady eats better than the male. She eats almost anything we eat. But the guy doesn't take anything apart from bosom milk and pap. Should that be a concern? |

Mark Twain once wrote: “This is the day upon which we are reminded of what we are on the other three hundred and sixty-four.” Twain’s referring to the first day of April or, as it’s often known, April Fools’ Day. While the first day of the fourth month of the year is sure to bring plenty of shenanigans (will you be the perpetrator or the victim?), what isn’t so certain is where the month’s name originated. First, where does the month of April come from? The month of April goes way back. Before January and February were added to the end of the year by King Numa Pompilius around 700 BCE, April was already the second month of the Roman calendar year (March was the first). Around 450 BCE, April was rearranged into the fourth slot, and was assigned 29 days. With the introduction of the Gregorian calendar by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582, an extra day was added, and even though it took Mother Goose a while to standardize the rhyme, we’ve been able to count on “30 days hath April” ever since. How did April get its name? But, being confident about the origin of a word that’s been around since before 1150 isn’t so simple. There are a few common theories behind April‘s naming. One is that the name is rooted in the Latin Aprilis, which is derived from the Latin aperire meaning “to open”—which could be a reference to the opening or blossoming of flowers and trees, a common occurrence throughout the month of April in the Northern Hemisphere. Another theory holds that since months are often named for gods and goddesses, and since Aphrilis is derived from the Greek Aphrodite, it is possible the month was named for the Greek goddess of love (the goddess that the Romans called Venus)! Even now, April is a popular name. And, as if that isn’t enough of a mystery, April also has yet another origination story. Around the fifth century, the Anglo-Saxons referred to April as Oster-monath or Eostre-monath, a reference to the goddess Eostre, whose feast was celebrated during the month. The Venerable Bede, a monk from the Northumbrian monastery of Saint Peter, believed this gave root to the word Easter—which is most often observed during the month of April. April’s derivation will remain a story full of maybes, but we don’t see this month going anywhere soon. What do you think linguists will be discussing when the month of April is 3000 years old? |
Where does the apostrophe go? Originally, there was none! The term April fool, for a victim of a prank on April Fools’ Day, dates back to the 1600s. Early records of the holiday from the 1700s name it April Fool Day, with an apostrophized April Fools’ Day recorded by the 1800s. This is also around when April fool came to refer to the trick itself. Today, the holiday is stylized both as April Fool’s Day, emphasizing an April fool as a singular concept, and April Fools’ Day, indicating plural April fools, whether the people or the pranks. And don’t forget to shout “April Fool!” when the prank is revealed. April fools across the world Yup, April Fools’ Day is celebrated all around the world. Because who doesn’t like playing a friendly prank on their loved ones? Here are some examples: In France, the fooled party is called the poisson d’avril, which literally means “April fish.” France’s customary prank involves pinning a paper fish to a friend’s back. In Scotland, April Fools’ Day was traditionally called Gowk Day—gowk being another name for the cuckoo, a common symbol of the fool. Pranks continued into April 2, Tailie Day, when celebrants traditionally attach a “paper tail” (or a “kick me” sign) to their friends’ backs. Brazil celebrates April 1 as Dia da Mentira, or “Lie Day,” in which people try to fool their loved ones. Always for comedic effect, of course. |
For pranksters and mischievous older siblings all around the world, April Fools’ Day, also called All Fools’ Day, is as eagerly anticipated as Christmas. After all, what other holiday encourages you to think up practical jokes and fool’s errands, from swapping your spouse’s keys to tricking your friend into thinking their car got towed? (Not cool, Steve.) But how did this odd, prank-centric holiday come to be celebrated in the first place, and why is it called April Fools’ Day? Where did April Fools’ Day come from? The true origins of April Fools’ Day remain unknown and are probably lost to history, but theories abound, of course. One story goes that April Fools’ Day began with France’s 1564 Edict of Roussillon, which decreed that New Year’s Day, historically observed on Easter by Christians, was moved to January 1. Easter is a movable, lunar-based date but often falls in April, so it’s said that early adopters dubbed people celebrating the old New Year “April fools.” Good one, guys. Another theory suggests that April 1st became the fool’s holiday due to Geoffrey Chaucer’s 14th century collection, The Canterbury Tales, wherein Chaucer includes a playful reference to “32 March,” or April 1st. However, most scholars consider it to have been a mere copying error. The holiday also shares some striking similarities to some ancient antecedents, though. The ancient Roman festival, Hilaria, was also a joyful, springtime festival held on or around March 25. Yes, the word hilarious is, aptly enough, related. Another analog is Holi, a Hindu spring festival celebrated in late March during which people can forgive and forget past faults by throwing colored powder and water on one another.

Chuwaa2:You're right. Elepaq must be crested all over the body. Bought my 4.5kva for #130k in December here in Abuja. |
Slammmmmmmm:Typically a generator, which has a 2.5 kVA generator capacity would be able to support a TV of 100 Watts, a Refrigerator of 200 Watts, two electric fans, each of 160 Watts, and much more. The total would be somewhere near 2400 Watts. |
Holadpearl:Personally, senwei products are a No No. They have proven not to be reliable. The Elepaq Constant generator, are more reliable / stronger than the Senwei generator, because of its power of carrying large appliance like Air-Condition, freezer etc. While the Senwei are not stronger like the Elepaq Constant. The Senwei are made for powering your TV, bulbs and fans. |

President Buhari’s aide Sabiu Tunde Yusuf, has debunked reports that he has been appointed an assistant director at the National Intelligence Agency(NIA). “It is not true. It is not true at all”, he swore to P.M.News on phone. Yusuf said he got to know about the fake news today when people began to congratulate him for a new job. For a while, he did not know what informed the flood of congratulations. “How could I have been appointed into NIA, an institution that works under cover?”, he said. Yusuf said people writing the story need to be educated about what the NIA does and what it stands for. In his view, he suspected that forces within the agency, who are not happy with the current Director-general, Abubakar Ahmed Rufai may be behind the fake news. On Monday, an online newspaper, Peoples Gazette reported that Yusuf has been surreptitiously appointed by Buhari into NIA. “Sabiu “Tunde” Yusuf, a nephew and domestic but influential aide to Mr. Buhari, was recently admitted as an assistant director at the nation’s external intelligence outfit, the Gazette understands based on information first volunteered by two presidency officials before additional corroboration from an NIA chief. “Mr. Buhari inserted Mr. Yusuf into the NIA even as he lacked requisite field and administrative experience to handle the rigours of the crucial intelligence top job. “Mr. Buhari has declined to make the appointment public to avoid yet another round of public clamour over his bias for northern supremacy in public service. But officials familiar with it have now informed the Gazette and excoriated the president for being unable to recognise the benefits of inclusive national patronage”. Sabiu Yusuf said the truth will ‘come out’, one day.

Akon Goes into the Mining Sector in the DRC Hip hop artist Akon has launched yet another business endeavour on the African continent. This time the impressive undertaking is in the mining industry in the Democratic Republic of Congo as he has signed a deal to finance a copper and cobalt mine in the central African country in a joint venture with a state miner. The Senegalese star is delving into the sector by way of the firm White Waterfall LLC which is registered in the United States and sees Akon — whose birth name is Aliuane Thiam, recorded as both the President and the CEO of the company as per contracts published on the mines ministry website. Perhaps not a surprise as Akon has already publicly spoken about his interest in and admiration for DRC. One of the contracts reportedly signed the Grammy-nominated singer on December 14 of last year, reveals a commitment of White Waterfall to pay a $2 million signing bonus and to finance a feasibility study of the Kimono reserve in Haut Katanga province. Time Will reveal More About the Project Akon, his team and his company representatives are yet to fully open up to the public and international media about the project — apparently the most recent in a string of business and philanthropic moves on the African continent over the last decade. The $6 billion futuristic Akon City in Senegal and a cryptocurrency called Akoin are two of the more popular ventures that Akon has launched. There are some who question the singer's moves and wonder if they are more self-serving or if there are true elements of continental development within their fabric.

The Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) has disowned BUA’s purported plan to purchase one million COVID-19 vaccines singlehandedly for Nigeria. BUA was quoted on Monday that it has paid for 1 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines for Nigeria through the AFREXIM Vaccine programme in partnership with CACOVID. Speaking on this development, Philanthropist and Founder of BUA, Abdul Samad Rabiu thanked the President of the Afrexim Bank, Dr. Benedict Oramah for making the purchase possible and the Nigerian Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, for coordinating the process through the CACOVID Private Sector partnership. But CACOVID in a statement said it was dismayed to learn of reports on social media alleging that BUA is singlehandedly purchasing 1 million Covid-19 vaccine doses for Nigeria. “Alhaji Abdulsamad must have been misquoted because these claims are not factual as CACOVID operates on a collegiate fund contribution model. There is no agreement between BUA, CACOVID and Afreximbank. “During the CACOVID weekly call of February 8th, Governor Emefiele, relayed to the larger group a call that he held with Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Herbert Wigwe with Afreximbank President, Benedict Oramah on Sunday Feb 7th. President Oramah briefed the 3 CACOVID leaders on the $2 billion facility the Bank has set up with the African Union Vaccine taskforce to purchase vaccines for the African Continent. “The allocation for Nigeria has been capped at 42 million doses. President Oramah explained that 1 million doses were ready for shipment to Nigeria in the next 2 weeks if a down payment was made by today, February 8th,” it explained. CACOVID added that at Monday’s meeting, its leadership agreed to contribute $100 million to procure vaccines for Nigeria, sating that these 1 million doses from Afreximbank worth $3.45 million, being the very first tranche. “CACOVID will purchase vaccines through other credible and subsidized mechanisms such as COVAX. The vaccines will be delivered to Nigeria and distributed through the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA). “CACOVID would like the Nigerian public to understand that vaccine purchase is only possible through the Federal Government of Nigeria, and that no individual or company can purchase vaccines directly from any legitimate and recognized manufacturer,” it stated.
