sticlestm:Is no longer the same god that Abraham heard talk to him, that was the father of Jesus? Is it not the same god, that the folks who were carrying on the rebellious attitude of Jesus, were claiming is their god? And because they were been fanatical like Jesus, is that not the reason they were called "Christ-like"? Try to reason outside religious mind, it will help present you as an intelligent mind. Religious beliefs numbs intelligence. sticlestm:What do you expect from a fictional story book? Maybe you're not aware that there thousands historians, who documented Judeo-Christian activities. Have you asked yourself, where the books written by the 7000 prophets that didn't bow to Baal are? The Roman government selected the distorted and fabricated documents, and gave it as bible, and you are taking that to the bank? The mythological and legendary books of Greek, Yorubas etc, have better chronology than the fictitious book you called bible. sticlestm:It's obvious that you neither know nor understand the political/Abrahamic religions history. The Roman government adopted Christianity as a state religion, for a political purpose. And Christian religion, as conceptualized by Rome, is a crafty blend of both monotheistic and polytheistic religions. Religion is a political tool, especially in the primitive nations even till date. sticlestm:Empty barrel can't but make irritating noise, when struck. |

THE FERTILE AND RATIONAL GROUND FOR REVENGE (2) The Precipitation of 29th July, 1966 coup. According to Anene, “violence is abominable; it self-replicates and always worsens a bad situation”, the 15th Jan, 1966 coup was an act of violence perpetrated against Nigerians and prominently, against northern political leaders. It became an abomination against the Northern region, when its failure became fully analyzed. This failed violent coup replicate itself because it was not managed well, and it eventually precipitated the 29th July,1966 coup and the civil war, which were worst events, compared to the bad event of the 15th Jan, 1966 coup. Once the vicious cycle of offence and conflict is set in motion, how worst the subsequent offence and conflict will be, can only be known by the outcome. If the failed coup had been managed well by Maj. Gen. J. T. U. Aguiyi –Ironsi, who became the Head of State after the aborted coup, the precipitation of the worst events may have been averted. Whatever remedial decisions Ironsi took, they were far from obvious and procuring justice for the North and against the coup plotters. Ironsi and all the leaders sympathetic to Ironsi’s decisions, on the management of complications of the aborted coup, gauged wrongly the grouse of the Northern leaders (political and military). The obvious delay by Ironsi to execute the coup plotters, and the civilians that aided them, was a significant irritation that made the worst revenge coup to fester particularly among the Northern soldiers. If Ironsi had ordered the execution of the coup plotters by firing squads publicly and immediately, that would have first exonerated Ironsi himself from been thought to be sympathetic to the coup plotters. Two, the execution would have given credibility to the subsequent reparative step taken by Ironsi. In the management of conflict, justice must not only be done, but must be seen to have been done, by the majority of the people that have been offended. And i had established that the 15th Jan, 1966 coup was an offense against the North. Even if the coup was an act of microscopic few persons of the Igbo origin, and the coup was not subjected to an open and large contributive medium (the requirement for success of any coup), the management of the failed coup is different. Ironsi had the responsibility to widely and openly consult the leaders across Nigeria and particularly the Northern leaders to arrive at a decision that could have made the coup a non-sectional one. There’s no rational or justifiable basis for Ironsi to have kept the coup plotter in prison for over five months after the aborted coup and not executing them publicly. Whatever was Ironsi’s intention, the revenge coup had taken care of it. The Justification for the Revenge. The capacity of humans or human group to perceive and appropriate justice or injustice is what determines the nature that the vicious circle of offence and conflict will take. The response to offense by humans, may be spontaneous or delayed (if the agents and atmosphere of offence is repressive), but every offence do elicit response. Whatever a man that has been denied justice does, is first justified on the injustice done the man, before the man is further subjected to another justice if an offense has been committed while he was correcting the injustice. Depending on the place where justice is been sort, final judgment is established by the decision of the majority judges. The decision of these majority is final because by rule, the decision of the majority becomes binding on all. The revenge coup of 29th July, 1966 was a natural fall out of injustice, perceived by the Northern leaders, based on the very sectional nature of the 15th Jan, 1966 coup, and the way the offence created by the coup was managed by the Ironsi’s government. And if the highest power appeared not to be prepared to give justice, then the natural thing is to find a way of compelling the highest power to do so. And unfortunately, when it comes to this option, justice will now be largely and solely defined by the justice seeker. So, the justification for the revenge coup and civil war, was that of natural and human response to offence, that was allowed to elicit intense emotional, rational, survival interest in the minds of the people, who felt offended and which ultimately lead to worst conflict. At the time of the revenge coup and civil war, both sides of the conflict were not been guided by what is futile or irrational, but were focused on finding the fertile and rational ground to establish the ideological basis of their quest. The side that secured the judgment of the majority judge, has since move on with sense of accomplishment of their quest and the other group has since then felt treated unjustly. In conclusion, like i earlier said, the vicious circle of offence and conflict has no termination point. The thickness of the circle can over time become thin, as people from both divides, gradually subscribe to the good interest of the majority across ethnic boundary, and shift the focus their quest away from parochial and ethnic interest. This is the fabric of the history that Nigerians need to be abreast of, if the real desire is to see a Nigeria that will grow and develop prosperously, the diversity of culture notwithstanding. THE FERTILE AND RATIONAL GROUND FOR REVENGE By Akingbade Thomas In the last seven weeks, Prof. Douglas Anene had been publishing an article he titled: "The futility and irrationality of revenge" , in the Sunday edition of vanguard newspaper. In this serialized article, he attempted to present what he claimed to be historical facts of the 15TH Jan, 1966 coup, 29th July 1966 coups and the Biafra war. With these historical facts, he hoped and wished that Nigerian youths and leaders will learn and allow themselves to be guided by this history in the process of national development. From the title of Anene’s article, it’s not difficult task for me to know what his conclusions will be, even if i didn’t read the article, and i will be close to hazard guess of 80% correctness. My assertion is based on the fact that I am very familiar with Anene’s writings on various intellectual, national and religious beliefs issues, that he had written on in the past. But because i intend to do a response piece on this present article of his, i had to wait till now that it appears he has concluded on the topic. I also will not want to base my response on inference not predicated on the grounds of argument in his piece. My conclusion on this article was forecasted by Anene himself – “of course, some of my readers implacably convinced that the Jan. 15, 1966 military intervention was an Igbo coup would dismiss my contrary position from an Igbo like me, as evidence of ethnic prejudice. That does not really matter: as always, many issues i try to base my conclusions on available facts known to me and on good reasoning”. My ground of response is not based on his presumed ethnic prejudice, but on the very intellectual component of his pre-defensed caveat, “…. as always, many issues, i try to base my conclusions on available facts known to me and on good reasoning”. This assertion, as far as this article is concerned, is an excuse or a cover up for ethnic bias that’s obvious from the very title of the article. Good reasoning can only be built on good facts. Good facts can only be assembled from balanced documentations from various parties to a matter of discuss. An academic must be able to assemble these facts, synthesize them and present a balanced conclusion. It’s when this has been done, that he can claim to have written, based on available facts and good reasoning. If the fact required for balanced conclusion is not available, writing conclusion can be withheld until such a time that it is available or state the possibility of unknown facts that might have affected the conclusion. The works referred to in this Anene’s writing, were largely from the authors sympathetic to the Igbos, the reference of authors that were neutral or non-sympathetic, were construed to support the predetermined conclusions. My conclusion therefore, is that this very article has suffered futility and irrationality, because it’s purely devoid of good reasoning. I shall now put forward my reply to justify my conclusion, under the following subheadings: The 15th Jan, 1966 was an Igbo coup, the coup offended the North, 15th Jan, 1966 coup precipitated the 2nd coup and civil war, and the justification for revenge. Why it was an Igbo Coup. In attempt to refute the allegation of several authors and commentators on the 15th Jan, 1966 coup as Igbo coup, Anene has the following ground of argument; and i will paraphrase them thus: the Igbo leadership (military or political) didn’t meet anywhere to carry out coup, the Igbo had no sense of marginalization then, it was not all the Igbo military officers that participated in the coup, and some Igbo officers detailed to execute some aspect of the coup failed. To summarize his argument, Anene said; “Yet, if the coup was not Igbo coup, why were the dissident mostly Igbo? How can one explain the very low casualty rate among prominent officers? The fact that Dr. Azikiwe, Mbadiwe, Michael Okpara and the prominent Igbo politicians of the period were not killed war largely fortuitous – those ignorant of the laws of probability do not appreciate the fact that incredible coincidence, though rare; do actually occur” By the above statement, Anene committed an outrageous intellectual crime, by insultingly saying that those who are not convinced, that the non-killing of prominent Igbo leaders is not coincidence, are ignorant of law of probability. This abuse of intellectual title can’t be excused for a professor of philosophy. Probability and coincidental event apply to randomly occurring event. And coup is not a random act or event. A failed or successful coup must have gone through a time bound planning and strategizing. If major Nzeogwu, the ring leader of the coup and his conspirators, had woken up on the morning of 15th Jan, 1966, without talking to each other, and spontaneously proceeded to execute the coup, then a case of probability and coincidence can then be established, as the reason why no prominent Igbo leader was killed in the coup, except the prominent leader from the north. The description of the coup as Igbo (the ethnic group) coup is an implicative one. The fact that the actors of the coup were Igbos, those who were killed were non Igbos and no prominent Igbo leader was killed (when according to the justification for the coup, Nzeogwu stated that all the corrupt politicians must be executed across the ethnic groups in Nigeria). The actors of the coup, the non-killing of prominent Igbo leader and the indecisive management of the after coup situation, all combined to implicate factually, the Igbo ethnic group. The justification for calling the 15th Jan, 1966 coup, an Igbo coup, is hinged on the above characterization. In an attempt to dismiss this position, Anene said the coup had national acceptance, and that the north was particularly agog immediately after the coup, and that it was the northern leaders, that incited the northerners against the Igbos living in the north then, by telling them that the coup was an Igbo plan to rule over the north. Therefore, the stage was set for revenge. This claim by Anene is just a shallow attempt to defend the indefensible. Anene should remember that the means of mass communication was severely limited to mouth to mouth means then. The northern officers who participated in the coup with Nzeogwu, and who particularly lead the killing of their own leaders did so, based on the ideological basis for the coup, as presented by Nzeogwu to them. There is this character trait that stands out amongst the average northerners. If you secure the trust and loyalty of a northerner on a deal, you can be rest assured that, that trust will not change. As good and reliable this is, it takes just one breach of trust from your end, to forever lost a northerner’s confidence or trust in you. The immediate jubilation in the north was because of the success of the coup in the north, the northern solders had expected the same success in the south, based on the plan. It was when the news of failure, which leaned more to a failure resulting from conspiracy, that doubt of the sincerity of the coup plot was cast on the minds of northern solders. In the art of politics and political survival, there’s no middle ground, you either submit to been ruled or you take up leadership. To achieve leadership politically, ideas, reasons, sentiments, misinformation and disinformation are fundamental weapon deployed by actors. All of these factors positively played in favour of the north after the failed coup. Therefore, the description of the coup as Igbo coup is obvious, and the use to which that naming was put was an opportunistic premise for political survival. The Coup Offended the North. Offence is the act of taking a deliberate, selfish or malicious liberty, to either irritate assault or suppress another person’s rights. Offence leads to conflict, and if the conflict is not resolved to the satisfaction of both parties, a vicious cycle is created – offence leads to conflict, conflict leads to more offence, and the cycle continues. In most cases, where it’s impossible to erase the source of offence, the consequent conflict takes a perpetual nature. This perpetual nature might be in the form of agitation (by ethic or social groups), insurgency, militancy or literary works. Offence at the level of irritation might incur easily resolvable conflict, but when assault is added to irritation, the consequent conflict often takes the mode of auto run. To the point that the 15th Jan, 1966 coup succeeded, it was an irritating offence to the north, but from the point from which the coup failed, the reality of sectional killings and the indecisive stand on the justice to be done to the coup plotters, the offence became an assault. The thinking to the person(s), saddled with the responsibility of managing the perception and interpretation of the sectional killing, is exactly what Anene shared in his article; “The rumor that it was an Igbo coup planned and executed to ensure Igbo domination gained ground across the country especially in the north…. We must state unequivocally, that the low casualty rate is a positive development ,because it wouldn’t have been beneficial to the country or to any individual for that matter if Dr. Azikiwe, Mbadiwe and Michael Okpara had been killed during the coup. Violence is abominable; it self – replicates and always worsen a bad situation. Therefore it’s a good thing if the number of deaths arising from any violence activity is minimal”. With this kind of rationalization from Anene, nothing can be more injurious and provocative to the people, whose prominent political leaders where isolated and murdered. The word “rumor” is just an irrational and coward excuse, with the sole intention of saying that the response of the north is unwarranted. I have established the fact that, there’s nothing close to probability or coincidence, in the non-killing of the prominent Igbo leaders during the coup. Therefore, what was told the northern masses had a factual ground, and for the purpose of politics, whatever this fact is tied to for effective sale, is irrelevant in that situation. Again, Anene descend into intellectual insincerity, based on the fact that he’s an adherent of two fields of knowledge – Philosophy and Humanism, which both abhors sentiments. In Anene’s words, the low casualty during the coup, which deliberately excluded the Igbo prominent leaders, is a positive development; therefore it’s a good thing if the number of deaths arising from any violent activity is minimal. My question to Anene is this, will he have said this, if the soldiers who lead the 15th Jan, 1966 coup were northerners, and the prominent political and religious leaders killed were Igbos? What Anene didn’t know, or mischievously choose to ignore is that, when it comes to human life and fundamental human rights, number is not just a statistical data. When it comes to human life and rights, number is an emotion, reason, interest, sentiment, memory, beliefs etc data. The northern political and religious persons murdered during the coup, were leaders of a region of the country, which has a highly emotive attachment to their leaders. The intensity of this attachment can elicit a massive response even if it’s only one leader that is perceived to have been ridiculed or offended. This mentality by southerners, that the northerners are opportunist when it comes to politics and political leadership in Nigeria, to me is the most based level of reasoning. The northern establishment understands the basic and advanced principles on which sustainable politics and political leadership is built, beyond what southern establishment knows. In 1993, MKO died under mysterious condition. The Northern establishment knew that the South-West was offended by all the events that eventually culminated in MKO death. The Northern establishment had different options through which they can placate the South-West, but they opted for the option of supporting OBJ to become the president. With this option, they knew that they will be able to return to national power without rational or sentimental oppositions after OBJ’s tenure. To becontinued……. |

Sinkills:One of the ills of religious beliefs is that, it shut the critical reasoning ability of religious folks down. The verses i gave you earlier, talks about the criteria for appointing leaders in the new testament Church. If there were no "born agains" who were polygamists in those churches, why will the standard rule be needed? For umpteenth time, you, Mr kumuyi and all other ignorant pastors out there are heinously wrong on this issue. |
brodalikeme:Which of the sin? Adamic or Mosaic sin? |
Chuknovski:This Abrahamic god once fed children to bears, because they were tickling a deluded prophet. Terrorists are fundamentally religious folks. |
Luckylife:Do you know the meaning of Abrahamic god? It's called Allah by the Arabs. Now send this to the blood thirsty friends you walk with. |
brodalikeme:Let's have the defense of this your "territory". |
Sinkills:I have corrected the heinous error of you, Mr kumuyi and all other ignorant pastors out there. What else do you want to know now. You already said ok. Why are you asking me for example, from the obvious? |
oglalasioux:They will soon tell you that their scarecrow god gave the knowledge to these pathfinders. |
SamJed:Of course, the Abrahamic god pokes nose in the affairs of folks under the sheets, than prove its interventionist attribute. |
To those who are being harassed in the name of Christian evangelism, just consider these folks as jobless and liars who mean no good, but evil and retrogression. Today many souls perished, just because a church will not obey building rules and regulations. They believed Abrahamic god will hold the unstable Church building from falling. |
skeendyke:The whole Bible is a promise of misery, to as many idiots that will believe it. |
The Christian religion, just like every other religions connected with a personal god, is built on deliberate and fabricated lies. These lies have thrived, because these religions frowns at, preclude and penalises CRITICISM of their obvious LIES. 1. the Christian god is not a universal god, as they claimed. Their god originated from Haran, a primitive society, from where Abraham was born and raised. Abraham created the mythology of Christian god. 2. The Christian god is just like any other gods of the African origin. Its nativity is haran, Canaan and Isreal. 3. Christian god was made popular by a religious rebel called Jesus, during the dominant rule of Roman government. It wouldn't have been known, if Roman government, hadn't adopted Christianity as a state religion. 4. Christian god was shipped to Africa and by extension Nigeria, during the colonial rule. It never came by revelation, but by observation. 5. Christian god is bestowed personal attributes, but its intervention lacks any trace in human experience. 6. Christian religion brands every other gods as demonic. This is gimmicks to sell the Abrahamic god. 7. The Christian god claimed he could return in folds, the money given to it by adherents, in the form of tithes and offerings. But it never happens. It's a grand fraud been perpetrated, by the mechanism of suggestive control of the human mind. 8. In other to protect the Abrahamic god, Christian religion lies to its adherents, that reading any book that criticizes their god, can expose them to demonic possession. 9. Christians claimed that every book that criticizes Abrahamic god, is inspired by Satan. And that anyone who criticizes it, is possessed with demons. 10. Christians also claimed that ALL atheistic groups are demonic. This is done so that Christians will be biased when relating with an atheist. 11. Christian religion claimed that without the Abrahamic god, no one can succeed. And that anyone who succeeds without it, used satanic power. |
reportnaija:When church can't obey building rules and regulations. Like the synagogue magician, a demon would soon be blamed In a sane society, the pastor will be charged for mass murder |
NewsPoacher:They should tell their members not to pay tithe and offering, until the recession is over. |
hahn:Jewish doG wrote the Bible |
4everGod:Atheism has as its part mission, to exhaust religious mindsets, to the point of break. So that rational sense can take over. |
PDBonline:Sorry, you are simply talking to the wrong folks. Perhaps your co travelers will be able to accept the claim, that a Jewish doG created them and that it's in control of their lives. |
4everGod:When a friend (Catholic Church member) was trying to comprehend a life without god, she started wondering- * how it will be like not to pray, * what to call out to fight imaginary enemies *something to call when in danger of arm robbery, car accident, when threatened by witch doctor etc This is the life of delusion that you religious folks, are morbidly afraid to abandon. You guys are afraid of loneliness(life without your imaginary doG, nazarene and ghost). I had been in the religious realm. It's a world full of foolish and dumb assumptions. You're not an exception. |
EyeHateGod:The religious folks are now to me, herd of mere court jesters. *Call them out to make nonsensical sounds and gibberish, they're gonna do it. *tell them to start shaking like tilapia out of water and to start talking to themselves, they will do it. *in this recession, tell them to give their savings, so that Jewish doG can double the money, they will do it. I simply catch my fun this days, with their court jesting. |
hopefulLandlord:These folks are beyond comprehension in grand delusion. One of them, who masquerades here as logical entity, said incest is permissible, as long as it's the Jewish doG that approves it. Certain folks that derives pleasure, in baseless suffering of humanity (slavery), and thirst of seeing folks, roasted in their imaginary hell, are nothing but psychopaths and sociopath. |
4everGod:Certainly not a deluded and blind one. Your God didn't approve slavery, yet he gave rules about slavery. Of course, it's only a god created by primitive Jews that can be this twisted. |
4everGod:I didn't know you're now a reading guide! |
foladara777:This is another historical proof of the origin of God. The God of the Abrahamic religions, is simply of the fabric and fashion of olodumare (God or almighty ) of the Yoruba traditional religion. It's pitiable, that the tribal, vengeful, horrific, mean, genocidal, misogynistic and chauvinistic god of the Jews, is what is been romanced by most Nigerians. Approval of slavery, is the worst bubble bursting, of this imaginary monster appellated as god. |
