Politics / Re: Governor Akeredolu Pays N4 Billion To Pensioners by akinwole21: 3:13am On Aug 31, 2019
I don't understand this post, the same Ondo state where my parents and mother in law are pensioners?
I'm sure the gratuity was paid to a selected few. My parents' gratuity has been destroyed by paying in ridiculous little chunks, my MIL has not even received hers at all. These are people that retired at least 5years ago. They are still been owed pension from last year Nov. (I think) where 50% was paid and they are yet to receive the remaining 50%. He might be up to date with their pension but that gratuity has been paid is not entirely true.

Celebrities / Re: Shan George Comes For Nigerian Pastors Over Tithe And Offering by akinwole21: 5:00pm On Nov 06, 2017
Before Deut, Abraham gave tithe to Melchizedek king of Salem in Gen 14v 17-20 and confirmed in Heb 7v 1. Abraham was in existence before the laws were made. I know we are no longer "under the law" as some people will say, yet we sing Abraham's blessings are mine and we are not ready to make the sacrifices he made. These are my own opinions and to be honest I am totally against coercing people to pay tithe. Let everyone decide if they want to pay tithe or not and whether they want to pay it to the church or use it for charity purposes.

Every white shooter is always deemed to be crazy.

Exactly my thoughts. I have been asking everyone if the word 'terrorism'

"The calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear)" (Source: Vocabulary.com dictionary)

now has a different meaning now. In this case i guess it is his own ideology or maybe him being an atheist (religion) and not politically linked...

I bet if he was a Muslim man or black man, they will immediately say its an act of terrorism.

Rubbish world we live in.

May God grant rest to the innocent souls and comfort their families.

Education / Re: Nigerian Student Attempts Suicide In U.K As NDDC Backs Down On Scholarship by akinwole21: 10:44am On Mar 27, 2017
I am a beneficiary of the scholarship and I have a few things to say. I got the scholarship in 2013 and I am a doing a PhD program. The first year was good as payment was prompt and I managed to get my 10% discount from the University. Second year was not too bad, payment was delayed until about January 2015, by then I had lost the chance to claim my 10% discount. 3rd year was not so bad, I was able to claim the discount.

It baffles me when I hear scholars say they have not been paid, it is really sad and discouraging because to cope with the stress of a PhD and work is horrible. My PhD is lab based so I know what I am saying, the money is not enough for the program because once the tuition and bench fee have been paid you are left with barely enough money for 5 months, some do not even have the maintenance at all because of their high tuition, so you still need to work to pay for your bills. Imagine working to pay tuition and bills, also remember that in the UK, International students are only allowed to work for a maximum of 20 hours a week, so it is really a terrible situation to think about if you have to work for your tuition and bills. Also PhD students do not have holidays so you can not work full time at any point only if you take leave of absence for a short period of time. If you are on your own and do not have your spouse here working to support you or you do not get support from home and you have to do all of these, it is HARD.

I think NDDC needs to do something about this situation because it is unfair to leave people here unattended, they do not even bother if you are in school or not. We were told when we got the scholarship that we will have to be sending reports like quarterly or something just to monitor our progress which some other scholarship bodies do (PTDF). Did they ask for my progress all through my 3 years? NOPE!!! Even when I made attempt at the end of my second year I did not know how to go about so I just kept quiet about it. I only just got a monitoring mail last Friday asking me to provide transcript of my previous year of study or any other thing to show I am studying before close of day, I looked at the mail and smiled and I was thinking.... "Do they expect me to get that like ASAP".... and also to send any payment I have made on my own so I can be reimbursed.

Suicide is not the option for the guy in my opinion, I know life is tough and difficult but why take a life you can not create. I hope NDDC responds to the cries of scholars all over and make payments

RALPHOW:
ACTUALLY IT IS VERY WRONG FOR NDDC TO STOP THE PAYMENT.
HOWEVER THE GUY MUST BE VERY STUPID TO THINK OF COMMIT SUICIDE,
MANY OF US LAGOSIANS (YORUBAS) TRAVELED TO UK WITHOUT ANY SCHOLARSHIP (ONLY STUDENT VISA), WE WORKED AND PAY OUR SCHOOL FEES
HE MUST BE A VERY LAZY GUY, ANYWAY THAT IS THERE PROBLEM FROM THAT PART OF THE NIGERIA,
THEY NEVER LIKE WORK, MANY OF US DID SECURITY JOBS, JUST BE READING AND CHECK CCTV ONCE A WHILE IN THE NIGHT AND GO TO SCHOOL IN THE DAY.

Health / Re: Nigeria Foods You Should Avoid If You Are Planning To Lose Weight by akinwole21: 7:16pm On Nov 07, 2016
Very good write up op. However, I will disagree with some of the foods you have listed, okra is a vegetable hence should be encouraged, fish and all the extras will not make us add weight. It is actually the garri, the pounded yam, the fufu, etc that goes with the okra that makes it high in calories, the same goes for egusi soup. Excess palm oil should be avoided. Beans is another food that we always think is low in calories but in actual fact it is high in calories but can't be compared with white rice.
Moderation is key when it comes to weight loss, I am speaking from experience, I have lost 16kg in one year eating regular foods and excercising so I know what I'm talking about.
Things to avoid: all forms of fizzy drinks(la casera, coke, sprite etc), biscuits, chocolate and anything from refined sugar, avoid white bread as much as u can, incorporate loads of vegetables in ur meals, fruits are good but some contain alot of sugar, snack on low sugar fruits such as apples, sour sop.
Due to personal reasons I've not posted my progress picture.
Drink alot of water and reduce salt intake. I hope this helps someone.
Bottom line: you can lose weight while eating our naija foods x3 a day plus snack. Moderation is key and excersise is to tone up the muscles and be firm.
Food / Re: Can Someone Help Me Convert This Recipe? by akinwole21: 2:07pm On Sep 26, 2016
@bakeuhappy is correct.
1mg=0.001g
200mg=200x0.001=0.2g

All u need to do is measure 0.2g of your sample and dissolve in 1000ml water.

I hope this helps.

Food / Re: Best Preservatives For Cake.....let's Discuss by akinwole21: 1:56pm On Jul 25, 2016
the first to comment beat me to the answer. A good cake does not need preservative as it is not meant to stay for ever. However, some wedding cakes that are fruit based or fruit cakes in general tend to stay longer than normal because of the fact that the dried fruits used are soaked in rum, brandy or the likes. I do not add milk or water to my cake only if the recipe calls for milk but definitely not water. The use of preservatives in cakes should be discouraged as some of these so called preservatives (not the alcohol) have adverse effects.

Religion / Pancakeday/Shrove Tuesday by akinwole21: 10:48pm On Feb 08, 2016
PANCAKE DAY 09/02/16
Pancake Day has been suggested to originate from a pagan holiday where slaves celebrate the arrival of spring. Pancakes are made on this day for celebration and the hot round pancakes symbolise the sun and by eating pancakes, the slaves believed they got power, light and warmth of the sun (Wikipedia).
Pancake day also known as Shrove Tuesday has been celebrated for centuries, it is known as Mardi Gras(Fat Tuesday) in French and Fasnacht (night of the fast) in German. It is the day that precedes Ash Wednesday which is the start of lent for Christians, hence the different dates it has each year as it is determined by Ash Wednesday. Traditionally, pancakes are made on this day to use up rich and indulgent foods such as milk and eggs before the beginning of lent (Wikipedia).
The word “Shrove” is another form of the English word “Shrive” which means obtaining
absolution for oneself by means of confession and penance (freedictionary.com). It is meant
to be a day to carry out self-examination, check yourself and repent from any wrong doing.
Self-examination should be a daily activity for Christians; we should not wait for the “Shrove
Tuesday” before we examine ourselves- IICorinth 13v5. Self-examination is crucial as we are in the last days, there are so many doctrines and teachings out there that are contradictory to the bible, we do not want to be tossed to and fro with all these hence the need the self-examination. Daily self-examination strengthens our relationship with God as this is an avenue for Him to speak to us and correct us- Rev 3V19. Daily self-examination is a way of saying “God I can’t run this race all by myself, I need your help”. Self-examination helps us to confirm if we are in the right standing with God (ICorinth 10:12). Let him who thinks he is
standing take heed lest he falls.
In addition, daily self-examination is a very good way to guard against backsliding.
Backsliding is a step by step process that doesn’t happen in a day like a friend will say:
“na from clap dem dey enter dance”
This simply means you start dancing by first clapping. If self-examination becomes a daily
activity, the process of backsliding can be cut
short as one can easily retrace his or her steps
back to God.
In conclusion, while we are in the mood for making pancakes and eating pancakes on “Shrove Tuesday”, let us ponder on the reason for this day, let us examine ourselves to
confirm our standing in God and let us take conscious effort to make self-examination a daily activity. Let us also tell the kids about the genesis of the day as a lot of them are excited about having pancakes and do not even know the reason behind this.
Shalom!!

Politics / Re: APC In Kwara, Lagos Clash Over Call For Sanctions Against Saraki, Dogara by akinwole21: 6:40am On Jun 11, 2015
My thoughts:

Inaugural seating was schedule to start at 10am, elected legislators of a political party fixed a party meeting for 9am and up till about 11am, they left their national assignment to attend a meeting to write a script to play to when they go for their 1st National assignment. Shame!

Some set of legislators who knows national interests comes before party interests were there at 10 as scheduled to start work(I know some governors last week locked some civil servants out of office for coming late to work last week, so punctuality is the engine of a good business)

APC should be happy Saraki won, what if when Dino Melaye nominated Saraki another PDP SINator nominates David Mark again? PDP would have won clear out judging by their population in the chamber as at the time of that inauguration.

For the deputy SINate president I remember Ali Ndume of APC contested and lost, meaning he was in the chamber at the time his colleagues were in ICC, why is APC not talking of punishing Ndume for not putting party interest before National interest too?

For the green chamber, I think that needs no contention, 2 people went on field and someone won, this was a replica of what happened in this same chamber 2011 when Tambuwa contested against Mulikat Adeola, ridding on the opposition back to the speaker (or na talker of the house ni) seat.

Above all APC should be happy PDP didn't use their known manipulation skills to capture the Red Chamber because there was a loop hole to do so that day, they form the 1/3 required to have a quorum that day.

A lesson to the chief strategist, at times prototype or written scripts don't act out as planned on field, your ability to manage such incident so much that people won't know makes you the chief strategist by action not name

Food / Re: Powdered Okro Soup by akinwole21: 4:28pm On Mar 23, 2015
You are welcome. We cant compare the way our mums cooked with the way we cook in our generation. Most of us have forgotten about the natural spices such as "Iru", "Ogiri" and the likes. I remember my sister telling my mum how bad "ogiri" smells whenever my mum cooked with it. The end product is a very tasty soup of either okra or ogbono. Our mothers are great cooks and I doff my hat for them. Back to the ground okra, my mum sent me some and she said to mix it with the boiling mix of pepper and get a good consistency as it might be lumpy if I use it dry. Once you have mixed it properly, then u add it to the remaining boiling mixture and keep stirring till its well incorporated. Mine was a bit watery, I added a bit of ogbono to help thicken it and draw very well.

It is called 'Orunla' in Yoruba land. My mum prepares it herself rom scratch and its a delicacy in my house. Prepare it like you are making normal okra, but the secret to this is you only need a little to make a full pot of okra soup.

Education / A Thread For Nddc Scholars 2013/14 by akinwole21: 1:05pm On Oct 23, 2013
Good day all, congratulations to everyone of us who made it this year. Hope we had a good journey from Nigeria to our different schools of learning.

I believe most of us are already settled in our different schools by now. The purpose of this thread is for us to have a way of discussing our different challenges most especially the issue of finance as we all know our sponsor has not paid our fees.

It will be of great importance if we have a way of passing information to one another as some of us might be struggling settling down, because it is not easy in the first couple of months apart from some who have been privileged to have studied outside Nigeria at some point.

Information is also important, please let us not hoard information from one another, esp academic info and info from our sponsor (NDDC).
Some of us are having challenges with our different Unis about tuition and bench fee at the moment, please let us all pass information to one another as it might help saving someone from been logged out of the Uni's system.

I want to encourage us to get to know ourselves most especially those of us in the same school as no man is an Island, we will need help one way or the other.

Finally, I wish us all the best in our different fields and our labor will not be in vain.
