willyede:
Hi everybody,
My baby was born on the 19th of may and ever since he was born he has refused sucking his mothers breast as we feed him NaN.
What I want to ask is that is there any disadvantage to this formula we are giving him and also what do we have to do to make him to accept breastfeeding cos he will cry move his hands all in an attempt not to breastfeed...any suggestions will be tried.
.

Congratulation sir on your bundle of joy!!!
From my little experience, the mom should try and be putting it in his mouth little by little. She should squeeze the nipple and put it in his mouth. Little by little, not forcefully he will learn that mama milk is sweeter than NAN. Other mama, will shook mouth. Let me copy them for you.

I used avent too and they are still in excellent condition including the teats and covers.

Take good care of them by washing them with a different sponge (do not use the same sponge for washing dishes to wash your baby's bottles) and sterilise them with hot water. Personally I'm not a fan of tablet or liquid sterilising fluid. I use electric steam steriliser.
Thank you. Just being curious. The bottles are still very clean and I do sterilize them every day too. Thank you

Except a bottle is damaged or the markings on it (to indicate ml or oz) has erased, there is no reason to dispose a bottle.

Bottles have been passed on from one baby to another and I have seen cases where a mum that's done with child bearing gives out her used bottles to a mother in need.

This is why it is important to invest in quality and genuine bottles right from the very first baby a woman has. On the long run, it's very economical.
Thank you ma. Am using avent. queensnow, it is feeding bottle. Thank you

Na wa oo!!! I quoted some mama here and I can see they are responding to others. Is it like that now? I simply asked a question though I have used google but I just want a first hand experience that's why I am asking. It seems this page has turned to who knows who. Just saying though.
Here is my question again:
Please mama in the house, I have a question that has been bothering me for a while.
How long should someone dispose a baby bottle to buy another one whether bpa free or not?

Hi @hunniesuzzie, Zaynie, any mama that knows

My baby would turn six weeks by Thursday Next week and the PHC said they do immunization on Tuesdays. Should I take the baby for her 6 weeks immunization on Tuesday even tho she'd be 2 days shy ( would that matter) or do I have to wait for the upper Tuesday when she'd be almost 7 weeks.
For me, I think I will wait for the baby to be seven(7) weeks. It doesn't matter since it didn't fall on the said date. So seven weeks won't be bad after all for the immunization

For mama asking for tom brown preparation again, please see below:
Tom brown is a perfect food to wean your baby with, tom brown is nutritious and filling. A lot of Mamalettes often ask questions about where they can buy Tom Brown mix in Nigeria. But rather than buy Tom brown, why not make it yourself at home? Below is a step by step guide on how to make your own Tom Brown mix from scratch.

What makes up Tom brown mix is a mixture of cereals (yellow corn, guinea corn and millet) and legumes (soybeans and groundnuts). The cereals and legumes add a variety of nutrients beneficial to baby's good health to the meal.

What you need:

Millet
Guinea corn
Yellow corn
Soybeans
Groundnut
How to prepare:

1. Buy dried corn from the market, then roast it on fire until its turn brown and just before it starts popping like popcorn, remove it, leave to cool ( You can fry the two different types of corn together).
2. Fry your groundnut (1 Derica is okay depending on how much cereals you're using)
3. Fry the millet and the soya bean. You have to fry everything separately
4. After frying the soya beans, grind softly with mortal and pestle to remove the shaft, blow the shaft away with your mouth
5. Leave everything to cool
6. Combine all the ingredients together, if you have a high powered blender you can blend the mixture with your blender but if not, take it to the local mill to blend. The mixture should be blended dry (o not add water!)
7. Your Tom Brown mixture is ready! Pour it inside a dry container and prepare it

Method of preparing Tom Brown porridge

It's one thing to make the powder, it's another to know how to prepare it so it doesn't turn out lumpy, the key to achieving a silky smooth porridge is to stir it constantly especially at the beginning of the cooking just like semo).
Place a small pot on fire, pour small water into it, then make a thick mix of tom brown and pour it into the pot
Using a turning stick, turn till there's no lump in the mixture
Continue turning it until it becomes thick like a custard and looks cooked
The fire should be on a medium heat, cook for about 7 minutes until it becomes firm, cooked and smooth.
You can serve with baby milk or breast milk.

@enque, mashed food is the one you use fork or spoon to mash. Puree is done with either hand blender or normal blender.

I'm not sure of that one o.
It should increase it. Whenever I do anything strenuous my supply increases.
Unless you're on a diet and exercising too.
True!!! Sometimes I intentionally eat less. And I also noticed if I drink less water, it won't come out well

Your baby is probably going through a growth spurt. If she's not running temperature, stooling and vomiting she is okay.

So Its feedback time @sugah, feddy27, enque,AlphaHandMaiden and all mamas that shook mouth into my matter.

I went to my pediatrics last week and she prescribed elocom cream for my daughter because of the ezcema at her back. She said i should rub it just once a day, use it for 10 days and a little amount because if its too many it may bring blood. So a pinch of it, rub till it fades away. To cut the long story shot, the eczema has disappeared and our back is back again!!! grin grin grin grin.

Thank you all

Morning Good People. Quick one.

I want to get a visa for my babies(twins) cos the Nigerian consulate in New york has problems/delays in issuing naij passports .

When i called the airline to get one way tickets, i was told my babies might be denied entry in lagos cos they are US citizens who ideally they should get return tickets since they are to a foriegn country.

My question is has anyone recently travelled with their newborns to naija with one way tickets and nigerian visas. If yes, what was your experience like with immigration officials.

Thanks
It was hitch-free. No issue at all @MURITALA MOHAMMED INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LAGOS. Infact, they just look only at my daughter passport and they didnt bother to check mine and i have only one way ticket through Turkish Airline(I will not advice you to go with them) stupid and crazy airline.

Are you serious!
Does her dad or anyone in your family sweat like this? I ask cos it might be a medical condition and can lead to dehydration and these skin issues. The earlier you know about it and know how to manage it the better you can help her.
Instead of bathing with soap why not use just water with some essential oil and a moisturising bath gel.
And swipe her body with wet towel in the afternoons so that the sweat don't stick for too long.
Yes, her dad sweat a lot. Not that bad because the environment is hot anyway. Even adult sweat and you know they sleep on their back. So the sweat is mostly from the back. @babythug, I don't usually use soap to bath her the second time. I just use water to wash her body. That's all. Thanks for all your suggestions

MamaOO:
Stop bathing the baby twice a day. Infact, bathe at most, 4 times a week. That's how I conquered our own severe skin issues. His pediatrician told me "Stop bathing him everyday, babies don't get dirty. It's not as if he's rolling in the mud all day" But I moisturize him like 3 times a day with Aquaphor. Now he's free of extremely dry skin.
On this matter, I have to get a clarification from pediatrician because she sweat a lot and I can't imagine not bathing her twice a day. Thanks a lot for your suggestions

zaynie:
You people that like bathing baby twice a day... I carry yansh for you. Especially baby wey no dey comot for house.
Except the baby is a really great sweater...i dont think it's necessary . Even they have stopped bathing them at birth at the hospital. They left my son for 2 days before bathing him because evidently the amniotic fluid is really good for the skin.
Like Sugah said, water strips the moisture off the skin.
I bathe my kids in the mornings and use a wet towel to swipe skin at night. I mix the water with the Aveeno bath gel or so and the skin stays moisturized till the next day.
Sugah's style is also bam.
Especially if baby has a dry skin or skin issues.

Like my mama will say "all the baff you're insisting for this child, did she goan carry pownpan at a site?
I bath her twice a day because she sweat a lot to the extent that if you removed her cloth you can squeeze water out from it. In this scenario, you will need to bath baby. And my environment is hot despite the AC or fan on 24/7.

Ok. You might also want to reduce the number of times you bath her. We bath once a day(at night) but still apply the moisturizer in the mornings.
En en? I bath twice a day ohhh!!! I may try that.
