Why should Fayose meet such a one-sided politicianhuh

His political ideology is far from being liberal and hence can be termed an APC media man

Fayose should focus on delivering the dividends of democracy to his people not joining the lousy bandwagon

Aregbesola that honored the invitation, what has it benefited his statehuh.....protest against school merger and non-payment of salaries totaling 13 months is all he has to show.

Six masquerades on Monday led protest in Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government of Osun State against the alleged plan by the state government to merge the polytechnics and colleges of education in the state.

A rumour had spread on Monday that the state government was taking steps to merge the two colleges of education in Ilesa and Ila-Orangun, including the two polytechnics in Esa-Oke and Iree.

The protesters who are indigenes of the town prevented lecturers and students of Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, from entering the campus.

Protesters insisted that they would protest against any plan to merge the college with any other institution, warning that the move may have untold consequence.

The former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs. Farida Waziri, yesterday revealed that she came under “fierce attacks, slander, blackmail and threats,” while trying to end oil-money induced corruption.

In a statement by her media aide, Ade Williams, the ex-chairman said she was happy that there is ‘a new sheriff in town’, alluding to the anti-corruption stance of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mrs Waziri spoke at Benue State University, Makurdi during the inauguration of World Bank’s Africa Centre of Excellence Project, Centre for Food Technology and Research.

The university was chosen by the World Bank as one of the centres for its 10 Africa Centre of Excellence Project.
While calling for a drastic diversification of the nation’s economy from oil through policies that would boost agricultural productivity and reduce corruption, the ex-EFCC boss said long years of over-dependence on oil revenue was one of the driving forces of public and private sectors, corruption in the country.

Waziri said diversification of the economy would also boost industrial output for the socio-economic development of Nigeria. She said: “No doubt, our over-dependence on oil revenue has brought us to the point where we are as a nation today. As an anti-corruption czar, I have seen how some of those the nation entrusted with its oil resources in the past helped themselves more than the country.

“With our focus on agriculture, the struggle by political office holders to steal oil fund would diminish while the national wealth will be in the hands of the people instead of a privileged greedy few. We cannot all dig oil wells in our backyard, but we can all farm in our backyards. It is time to end oil-money induced corruption in our land by buying into President Buhari’s vision and take ownership.

“I have made my contributions in the fight to discourage that and even recovered some of the looted funds in billions of dollars. For daring to do that, I came under fierce attacks, slander, blackmail and threats, but by God’s grace and long years of experience, I survived all. I am glad today that indeed, there is a new sheriff in town,” Mrs. Waziri noted.

Politics › Crisis In Afenifere Deepens As Group Leader Resigns-sun by alcmene(op): 3:55pm On Nov 02, 2015
LEADER of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti yesterday resigned as the group’s leader. He attributed his decision to alleged disloyalty among members. The resignation, according to Fasoranti, takes immidiate effect.

Fasoranti, who became the leader of Afenifere after the death of Chief Abraham Adesanya, said in a letter he addressed to the Secretary-General, Chief Seinde Arogbofa, and copied other leaders of the group including Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Sir Lanihun Ajayi, Chief Olu Falae, Chief Supo Sonibare and all state chairmen, that some members are not loyal.

The letter reads in part: “Our organisation, Afenifere was formed in 1951 under the leadership of our leader; Chief Obafemi Awolowo. The organisation was formed to serve as an umbrella to be used to actualise the dream of a great nation and the Yoruba race.

“Over the years, Yoruba have tried to focus on a common goal. Chief Awolowo tried to ensure the oneness of our people with a lot of efforts, notwithstanding the challenges he faced in the process. Unfortunately, he passed on without actualising this dream.

“The mantle of leadership fell on the late Pa Adekunle Ajasin and subsequently, the late Pa Adesanya and then my humble self. As events have been unfolding in the past few years, the focus and goals of the founding fathers of our great organisation, ‘Afenifere’ were gradually eroded.

“This, therefore, made it a herculian task for our members to work in unity. Several efforts were made to ensure the actualisation of the Afeniferegoals, but it appeared we have not succeeded in achieving this. This is basically due to reasons best known to our members individually.

“Let me state clearly that the issue of adoption of the National Conference report had always been the focus and goal of our people in Afenifere even long before the confab was set up. The support of a leader who promised to implement this report was, therefore, not a mistake and inevitable, despite all public insinuations.

“Considering my age, efforts and selfless dedication to my country, my state (Ondo), my political parties, my past leaders and my members in Afenifere both in Nigeria and in diaspora, I hereby wish to inform you all that I have decided to step aside as leader of our great organisation, Afenifere,” Pa Fasoranti said.

Politics › Lagos Government Shuts Marina Mosque by alcmene(op): 5:24pm On Oct 31, 2015
The Lagos State Government has shut down Marina’s Workers Mosque on Lagos Island, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria over poor waste management and also vowed to shut down filthy markets across the state.
The government added that it had declared zero tolerance on environmental nuisance in the state,

While monitoring the October edition of the monthly sanitation exercise in Mainland and Lagos Island Local Governments, Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Samuel Adejare stated that any filthy market and motor parks in the state would be shut indefinitely if they did not put their environment in proper shape.
Adejare said the declaration of zero tolerance in Lagos metropolis was to save the state from disaster resulting from unkempt environment.
“That is why we ordered the closure of the mosque for discharging effluent in the drainage. Marina is our pride, asset and our heritage. We cannot allow anyone to mess it up. This mosque is a temporary building for worship, but we cannot tolerate improper waste disposal.
“There is no emotional feeling attached to it. We cannot allow that in Central Lagos. You can all see how they discharged their sewage on the road. Even God will not accept that and I will not allow that,” he stated.

He lamented that religious house had violated the State’s environmental law, saying that any outfit that violate the environmental law would not be spared, while also decrying the environmental condition of the Island Central Business Districts, CBD which was the commercial hub of the state.
Adejare said the CBD had degenerated due to the activities of street traders and indiscriminate discharge of waste.
“Due to this, we have set-up taskforce comprising Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI officers to ensure that the CBD is well improved upon. This is our CBD and companies make so much money from here. They have to maintain the atmosphere here.”
“The present administration will only cooperate with drivers and market unions that are ready to take ownership of parks and markets through proper management of their environment. We won’t send them away if they are ready to take ownership of their environment through proper cleaning. But if they are not serious about it, we will dislodge them and restore sanity in the areas,” he warned.

“We will shut such park or market that have environmental challenged. We cannot allow cholera outbreak. This (market) is where we buy what we eat daily. And that was why I have decided to make Lagos environment my office and not Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.

“We are here to make change and take the state to the next level. On Ilaje Otumora slum, in Lagos Mainland Local Government, we are going to sit down and find solution to it. In fact one of our drainage systems that we channeled into the lagoon has been blocked. So, we are going to stop that from happening”, he said

Bayero’s son sues Sanusi over planned demolition of emir's palace

A High Court in Kano on Friday restrained the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ll from demolishing any historical structure within the palace pending the determination of the substantive application filed before it by the emir’s uncle.

Sanusi was dragged before the court by his Uncle, Alhaji Salim Abubakar Bayero over his alleged plan to demolish some historical structures in the palace to build offices for district heads.

Other parties in the case are the Kano Emirate Council and the Attorney General of Kano state.

A copy of the restraining order sited by Daily Trust correspondent was contained in a one-page interim injunction dated 30th October, 2015, signed by the Kano state Director of Litigation.

The order reads in parts; “That an order for interim injunction is hereby made restraining Emir Muhammadu Sanusi ll and Kano Emirate Council, the 1st and 2nd defendants in the case from demolishing and or tampering with any structure in the Kano emir’s palace (Gidan Rumfa) by virtue of being ‘Yan Fulani or Bayin Sarki pending the determination of the substantive application.”

According to the statement of claim with suit number K/386/2015, the plaintiff is a grandson of the 10th emir of Kano, late Sarki Abdullahi Bayero.

The plaintiff claimed that the emir was bent on demolishing and destroying some structures at Ka’iya and Kachako sections as well as the graveyard of some past emirs of Kano located within the palace.

He told the court that the purpose for the demolition was to build offices for district heads, arguing that such action has never happen in the history of Kano where district heads have their offices within the palace.

Abubakar further informed the court that quit notices had already been issued to some occupants of the marked sections by the emir.

The presiding Judge, Justice A.T Badamasi has slated the case for November 12, 2015 for hearing of the motion on notice.

Politics › "I Like Being Selective In The Fight Against Corruption"-buhari by alcmene(op):
President Buhari says he never lost sleep over comments by some people accusing him of being selective in his fight against corruption.
The President said this while fielding questions from pressmen in India where he is attending the 3rd Summit of the India-Africa Forum

"I cannot tell you by heart how much we have recovered. For those who are saying I am being selective, if they were not involved in corruption, they wouldn't mind. They will even encourage us to get whoever has compromised his position in the trust giving to him.

So I see it in the papers, I watch it on the screen, but I have never lost a sleep on it because those that are not corrupt should only encourage us to even do more. For those that are interested in the safety of those that have abuse trust in the country will go to any length including bribing people to give false information. Whoever is caught, the documents that incriminates him or her will be taken to the courts to prosecute him for Nigerians to know who abused trust"he said

Asked if there will be an extension in time limit if the military fails to destroy Boko Haram by December this year, he said
"The main objective is to get rid of boko haram. Whether it is within the time limit we give to the military or outside it, we will maintain and focus on our objective.
We will support them. Normally I am an optimistic person. Those that have already given up, I am sorry for them but I remain confident that our military and other law enforcement agencies are more than equal to Boko haram"he said
Reacting to the row about Amaechi's confirmation in the senate, he said

"This is a team work. I say I know people but there are people I accept from other people in our team that I trust without even knowing them. Maybe the ones that had problems in the national assembly, I doubt if I ever met them in my life. I didn't walk into the presidency alone. I have to depend on all the three tiers of government, from all parts of the country. We cannot walk outside the constitution which says that there must be a cabinet representative from each state.

There used to be 42 ministers. I I think we will be lucky if we can have half of that now because we cannot afford it. Others may not be substantive ministers but they will sit in the cabinet because that is what the constitution says and we cannot operate outside the constitution".
On whether he will be reducing the number of ministries, he said "Of course"

On what he will want to be remembered for, Buhari said "If we survive it, I want to be remembered that Nigerians found out that I was genuine, I was a real patriot . Not only that I fought the civil war, I also fought corruption to a standstill" he said

Politics › Biafran WAR:FG To Settle N100bn Suit Out Of Court-punch by alcmene(op): 1:17pm On Oct 30, 2015
The Federal Government has agreed to settle out of court, a case filed against her, alleging breach of fundamental rights and negligence to clear land mines and abandoned explosives at 1967 civil war sites.

The case was filed against the federal government and five others by one Vincent Agu and 19 others in the Community Court of Justice in Abuja.

The plaintiffs are claiming N100bn compensatory and general damages from the federal government.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that at the resumed hearing of the case, counsel for the applicants, Mr Alex Williams, told the court that the parties had amicably resolved the dispute but was yet to file the terms of settlement before the court.

Williams said the filing of the terms of settlement was delayed because the federal government was yet to appoint an Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice who would assent to the terms agreed to by the parties.

The counsel therefore asked for adjournment of the case pending the appointment of the minister.

Counsel for the federal government and other defendants, Mr Shola Egbeyinka, corroborated the position of the applicants’ lawyer.

Egbeyinka, from Femi Falana (SAN) Chamber, said parties had duly settled but the absence of attorney general stalled the necessary action on it.

Egbeyinka expressed the assurance that before the next adjourned date, the minister of justice would have been appointed and the report of settlement would have been ready for presentation to the court.

The presiding Judge, Justice Chijoke Nwoke, adjourned the case till January 19, 2016, for report of settlement.

NAN recalls that the plaintiffs had filed the suit alleging violation of their fundamental human rights.

They alleged that the defendants were guilty of negligence for their failure to clear and remove landmines, abandoned explosives remnants of war on time from the war affected contaminated areas.

They claimed that the negligence of the defendants had caused maiming and injuring of civilian population by landmines, explosives and remnants of war armaments in their various communities.

The claimants sought the court declaration that the stockpile of live bombs in the residential neighbourhood located at plot 108 Ndubuisi Kanu Street, New Owerri, Imo State, is a violation of their rights.

They sought the court order directing the federal government to embark on victims assistance and rehabilitation.

The claimants sought N50bn compensatory damages and N50bn general damages against the defendants.

NAN recalled that the court had ordered that the inspection of the bomb site should be carried out.

The court had also directed that after the inspection the defendants should remove, diffuse, detonate or by whatever means dispose any bomb found during the inspection.

Politics › Telling Lies Is Corruption -by Femi Aribisala by alcmene(op): 1:18pm On Oct 28, 2015
Lai Mohammed, APC National Publicity Secretary, is one of President Buhari’s ministerial nominees. When he appeared for screening before the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio made a wry observation. He said: “If I know (Lai Mohammed) very well, he may have one or two propaganda to drop before he leaves here.” His Senate colleagues burst into laughter because they understood what he meant.

Lai Mohammed is a master propagandist. He is well-known to be economical with the truth. During the election season, he cried wolf every other day, claiming to unearth new “fantabulous” PDP plans to rig the election. One of the most outrageous was his allegation that PDP used disappearing ink on the ballot papers of APC supporters in Ekiti. He also alleged PDP imported one Gyora Berger from Israel, with the mandate to jam all the card-readers in the North-West and the North-East.

Our distinguished Senators failed to ask Mohammed about these tall-tales for which he is known and loved. They failed to determine if we are to expect more of the same from him as Honourable Minister, or whether he intends to tamp it down a little.

Anti-corruption APC

The APC is now Nigeria’s self-styled anti-corruption party. Five months after the elections, the only recognised public policy of the new Buhari administration is anti-corruption. The government’s economic policy is anti-corruption. Its social policy is anti-corruption. Its foreign policy is anti-corruption. Buhari plans to revive our ailing economy with anti-corruption. He plans to fix our broken educational system with anti-corruption. He also plans to fix our health and social services with anti-corruption.

Hear him: “The monies we realise from anti-corruption campaign will be adequately used to improve education in the country.” “The money saved will finance jobs, health-care and the provision of social safety net for the needy, weak and vulnerable of our land.” When can we expect these dividends of anti-corruption to start competing with our proceeds from oil?

Fabrication of data

The APC has consistently exploited the gullibility of Nigerians. Recognising the low level of education in the country, the party has gone all out to promote its anti-corruption policy with lies. It went to town with the CBN governor’s bombast, first that $50 billion was missing from the nation’s coffers; and later that $20 billion was missing. Any Nigerian with a modicum understanding of economics knows it is impossible for such huge sums to be missing in an economy the size of Nigeria’s.

Professor Soludo declared that, in the five years of Jonathan’s administration, no less than 30 trillion naira had been stolen. The APC again went to town with this, not minding that the total annual federal budget under Jonathan was a little over 4.5 trillion naira. In short, more money has been allegedly stolen under Goodluck Jonathan than there was money to steal.

This fabrication of data did not stop once APC came to power. The APC claimed it met an empty treasury. However, Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman, Deputy Chairman National Planning Commission debunked this claim by revealing that Jonathan left behind $30 billion. There was also some $2 billion left in the Excess Crude Account and the Sovereign Wealth Fund; amounts that would have been more had the governors not insisted some of it should be shared.

Buhari says: “Jonathan’s ministers stole 150 billion dollars.” How exactly did Mr. President come by this outlandish figure. These figures are just plucked out of thin air. APC chieftains say one million barrels of oil was stolen everyday under Jonathan. That cannot be because it is virtually half of Nigeria’s daily oil-production.

Oshiomhole says a senior official of the Obama administration revealed that a Jonathan minister stole $6 billion dollars. How can one single individual possibly steal that much? This claim has since been denied by the Americans. Oshiomhole also claims a consultancy fee of 140 billion naira was paid for the Second Niger Bridge when the total cost of the bridge is only 108 billion. APC chieftains just keep coming up with outrageous figures, in order to keep burnishing their bogus anti-corruption credentials.

Promises, promises

During the election, APC ignored the parlous state of the economy and went to town, promising Nigerians heaven on earth. It promised to pay a stipend of 5,000 naira monthly to the 25 million poorest Nigerians. This would come to 125 billion every month and 1.5 trillion every year. The party must have known it was impossible to do this with a 4.5 trillion annual budget, least of all at a time when oil is now selling for less than $50 a barrel. Nevertheless, it used this promise to deceive the gullible.

APC promised to provide free education; free daily meals for millions of Nigerian public school children; free tertiary education; free healthcare and free houses. All this have turned out to be fictitious. Buhari promised to create 740,000 jobs within a year in the 36 states of the federation, as well as one million jobs for Igbo youths by revamping the huge coal deposits in Enugu State for electricity generation. However, in five months, his administration has created no new jobs. Instead, it has lost many by its go-slow and do-nothing stance.

Reneging on promises

Once the election was “won,” Buhari declared on TV Continental that, unlike the Quran and the Bible, the APC position during the election is subject to change.

Suddenly, the APC found it necessary to deny the two key documents on which it had based its presidential campaign: “My Covenant with Nigerians,” and “One Hundred Things Buhari Will Do in 100 Days.” These documents bore the official APC logo, were promoted on the APC website and were used extensively on the campaign trail by APC officials. But once the election was over, the APC reneged on the promises made in them.

Garba Shehu said: “I did not fund or authorise any of those. I can equally bet my last kobo that candidate Buhari did not see or authorise those publications.” Lai Mohammed swore that: “Buhari never promised to do anything in 100 days, that’s the honest truth.” However, the 100 days document was the handiwork of the policy and research directorate of the APC presidential campaign, headed by former Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Buhari himself introduced the Covenant document in the first person. He said: “This covenant is to outline my agenda for Nigeria and provide a bird’s eye-view of how we intend to bring about the change that our country needs and deserves. The covenant is derived from the manifesto of my party, the All Progressives Congress. It however represents my pledge to you all when I become your president.” But once he became president, Buhari now claims he had nothing to do with the document.

Assets declaration

In a document titled, “I Pledge to Nigeria,” Buhari declared: “I pledge to publicly declare my assets and liabilities, (and) encourage all my appointees to publicly declare their assets and as a pre-condition for appointment.” However, after the election, Femi Adesina, the president’s special adviser, denied the president ever made such a promise.

He said: “You need to get his words right, go and check all that the president said during the campaign, in no place would you see it attributed to him as a person. But then there is a document by his party, the All Progressives Congress, saying he would declare publicly, so we need to set that right, it’s a declaration by his party.”

When the president finally succumbed and declared his assets publicly, he failed to disclose their value. The president had led Nigerians to believe he had barely one million naira to his name. He claimed to be so cash-strapped, he had to borrow 27.5 million naira to pay for his APC presidential nomination papers. But then 30 million naira suddenly appeared in his bank account in his assets declaration.

We were told he has only two houses; one in Daura; the other in Kaduna. But then his assets declaration show he not only has a house in Abuja, he has four other houses as well. It was also disclosed that he has an undeveloped land in Port Harcourt and an undisclosed number of shares in banks. The president also has farms, a ranch and livestock. Before his election, Buhari had only 150 cows: after his election, these had jumped to 270.

Lying is corruption

What is obviously lost to the APC is that there is a definite contradiction between fighting corruption and telling lies. Corruption cannot be fought with deception. It is a classic principle of jurisprudence that “he who comes into equity must come with clean hands.” But APC clearly does not understand this at all. It is remarkable that the very party that fought an election by taking the moral high ground of being anti-corruption is the one that has shown the most blatant inclination to twist, bend, distort and obfuscate the truth at every turn.

By its actions, the APC is a party of lies and liars. The party claims to be a vehicle of change, nevertheless, it presented a 72 year-old as its presidential candidate, a man who had been in power 30 years previously. Buhari himself accepted the mantle of progressive change, nevertheless he nominated Audu Ogbeh as minister, a man who was minister some 30 years previously.

For APC, change means recycling old PDP politicians; avoiding the young; and relegating women into obscurity. Change means ensuring the principal organs of government: the executive, legislature and the judiciary, are now all monopolised by the North. It means the key staffers of Aso Rock are now virtually all Northerners. It means the INEC Chairman is now from the North, the same region as the president.

Change for the APC is declaring Rotimi Amaechi innocent until proven guilty; while declaring Diezani Allison-Madueke guilty until proven innocent. Change means the president can overlook the South-East in appointments.

Clearly, this is not the change Nigerians were led to expect. This is not the kind of change APC promised Nigerians while seeking our votes. What the party has done is to betray the trust of Nigerians. To put it bluntly, Nigerians were deceived into putting the APC in power. This makes it all the more anomalous that the same APC claims to be the party of anti-corruption. Someone needs to tell APC chieftains that telling lies is corruption.

Eight villagers fleeing their communities after Boko Haram terrorists’ invasion have been killed by the insurgents at a village near Maiduguri, Borno State capital, security sources said.

It was gathered that the incident happened at about 3pm yesterday.
The victims, according to a security source, were local Shuwa farmers who managed to escape from their community that was recently visited and taken over by some fleeing Boko Haram insurgents.

But just as they were about celebrating their escape at Jakana village which is located some 50km away from Maiduguri, the terrorists, who were riding motorcycles, arrived the outskirts of the town, rounded them up and summarily shot them dead.
The attack, according to a security officer who witnessed it all, had caused some confusing in Jakana.

The security officer, who sought anonymity, said “It was really unbelievable for all of us when we saw how they rode on bikes at a near neck breaking speed and summarily shot dead the eight villagers who were about entering Jakana.”

Fulani Social Cultural Association, Miyetti Allah, has rejected the plan by some sections of the Afenifere group in South-west of the country to register Fulani herdsmen grazing cattle in their area.

Speaking after the national EXCO meeting of the association’s leaders in the 36 states and the FCT in Tundu Wada, Karu local government of Nasarawa state, the Association’s President, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, said Fulani herdsmen were facing challenges in many parts of the country with their cattle.

“We cannot support the registration of herdsmen in any part of the country because we are not criminals. Herdsmen are all over the country so for some people to just come up that Fulani herdsmen would be registered or ban from Southern part of the country, we would not support that. We are Nigeria too,” he said

Earlier, addressing a press conference, the Secretary of the association, Engr. Saleh Alhassan, condemned the kidnapped of Chief Olu Falae and urged the security agency to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice.

“The police have made some arrest as we were made to understand through media publications. It is clear that the kidnapped of Falae was not perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen. We take serious exception to the unguided, unwarranted and hate speech of Chief Fani- Kayode that the kidnap was perpetuated by Fulani herdsmen,” he said.
