Good to here that. |
Does the designer have to be in Nigeria or the work can be done on a contract basis? |
I really don't think the demand will come down, it may drop for sometime - web development is not just building websites, people just web technologies to write full fledged applications. People can hire you to debug their custom apps when their lead programmer is no more with them, you can be contacted to do something special that is not in the market. Most companies now don't really care what you use to accomplish the task, they just want the stuff to work. As my2cents have rightly said, we need to build our own paypal or credit-card system, the government should pass laws that can make this possible and people will start working on the system. The issue of fraud is a disturbing factor - I was in Nigeria recently for a training, I went to a cafe to check my emails and I was appalled at the number of young people and even mid-aged men that are into fraud(419). God help Nigeria |
sbucareer, I am interested, please send it to me - should I send my email to get it? |
Do a dump of the whole database to back it up since the data is very important. I recommend you upgrade and import the data you require |
Thanks |
Me think python is rocking pretty well - writing codes are so easy and straightforward, I prefer it to java |
ajiboyet, I will advice you buy programming books and read. You can get mathematics books as well. Anything that will keep your brain working. Contrary to what most people will tell you, I will advice you to work for yourself because you can never make the kind of money you want working for someone else. You can work after school and all but most good developers work on contract basis. There are still 1001 and one things to do with the computer and there are still 1001 technologies that haven't made it to our country, so the computer industry is very much promising. |
Clocky - point well noted. I am sure no body is comparing PHP and JAVA, in my view, it is faster and simplier to write code that will connect to a database in php than in Java. And you know that there will be more bugs in a 100 line code than in a 10 line code. Java rocks but PHP is pretty good. |
Good topic. I had always thought most of yahoo was written in python. I have been using PHP for a year now - I really can't see what it can't do for web application. I mean you can't write GUI apps but there are extensions and libraries that will help you do that. |
It's a pity that scammers and con men have spoilt Nigeria image. It is also a pity that we can't use credit card in Nigeria. I am in Ghana and got my ibook and imac each less than $27 a month using my friend debit card in the States. So wetin una dey talk, apple machines are affordable. How many Americans do you think have $3,500 to buy laptops cash down? If you have good credit, you can get anything you want and that includes a sweet machine like a MAC. I don't see Apple going down at all at all. Instead, their marketing strategy will make them capture more of the computer market. |
Ask here what you should do for you guys to stay together, based on that you can plan accordingly |
don't compare, MAC beats Microsh*t hands down |
sbu, I am busy man - just checking in all week. I promise to start something tomorrow. |
kimba, Well said - I attended deeper life most of my teenage years, I thank God for that. Deeper Life is straight forward and that is why most people don't like the church especially youths. It's either you are worldy or Godly - most people don't like to be called worldly. Got is not lukewarm - he doesn't expect any of us to be either. |
Sure, Let me know the outcome |
No beef african boy - no beef at all. |
Guys, I haven't started because I haven't had the time during the week. good thing tomorrow is saturday - I will introduce php and put out tutorials on how to install a php, mysql environment on Microsh*t, Apple MAC and Unix (basically Linux). Tomorrow then |
haha |
thanks man - I have a few wrox books myself, on PHP and dotnetnuke. I will make sure I get the JSP books but I read an article that it is good you learn java before learning jsp because jsp is all java, is that true? |
Very true. |
very true, very very true. OBJ came in and coax taylor to come to Nigeria, something very good to stop the war in Liberia. Nigeria has always been a big brother to other african countries which is very good. On the other hand - there was alot of politics behind it, there was already a warrant on taylors head before he came to Nigeria, Bush was putting pressure on him to step down and the LURD rebels had encirlced monrovia and was bombing everywhere. Innocent people were dying and that is why he was coax to leave, if he hadn't, he would have died all right but still as a president and many civilians would have lost their lives in the process. |
I can't answer that because I don't have an authritative answer, I can find out if you like. Secondly - it comes with a special program you install on ur windows or mac and manage the server. |
root has all priviledges - but you don't log into the system like that - there is no shell dude. There is a root user all right and once you create normal users, their email, web, ftp and other services account are created. Read about it and you will understand the structure |
Oasis, look at this, I create a user say oasis useradd oasis -d /home/oasis/ Under /home/oasis you have other directories i.e /home/oasis/mail - for mails /home/oasis/htdocs - for you webfiles and ftp access There are other users i.e /home/alex but oasis doesn't have access to alex directory because of the permissions as set by unix by default or you can add them yourself. So what ever oasis does it will only affect his directory, if he decides to create a php script and run rm- rf /root, it would work because he doesn't have that permission. BrickServer takes care of all these. |
I get your point but you see every user has his own directory he has access to. |
Ok man - I will contact her, she works for a dutch programming firm here, I will give you details as soon as I get in touch with her. By the way - do you have any nice tutorials on jsp? Ghana aint bad but it's quite expensive though. They have a few good software companies here but most of them are into VB. The good guys using java are outside the country. |
oasis, Check out the SAGE Brickserver website - they even have a sage brickserver you can try to hack but you will have to register and they will give you about 3-5 days or so. don't take my word for it - try it yourself |
oasis, I doubt if pojutime is serious about this script, to tell you the truth, I have lost interest in this particular thread. Rather - I am concentrating my effort on starting a php tutorial, please assist if you have any php experience. To anyone that has some php skills, let us start a php tutorial, I will put one up tonight. |
