It's a great and thrilling moment at the recently hosted Nigerian Teen Choice Award in Abuja Transcorp Hilton.

The event attracted several top profile personalities and celebrities as the hall was packed to the brim. Top on the list was Davido who took over the event with his last minute performance. Others are Seyi Shay who received an award, Derele Edun, Praiz, Alex Ekubor, LK Kuddy, Hon. Ejiro Okpihwo, Chuks D General, Amb‎. Kingsley Amafibe etc.

The project Director, Mr Nelson was obviously impressed by the turnout and overall packaging of the event as the audience got much more than they bargained for.

Also at the event was Abuja's popular social media reporter "AlexReports" who also presented an award.

OONI of Ife Oba Okunade Sijuwade’s burial has been put on hold after a man elected to be buried alive with the monarch absconded unwilling to be the one to keep the king company in the afterlife. Unconfirmed reports from Ile-Ife indicate that the designated person to be buried alive alongside the monarch, known traditionally as the Abobaku, took to his heels for dear life…see the photo of the running man below:

In Ile-Ife culture, the Abobaku is a person selected by the traditional chiefs to live and die with the king and is treated well and showered with a lot of care and gifts while alive. Apparently, the incumbent Abobaku ran away following the confirmation of the death of the Ooni earlier this month. Despite denials of the death by the Traditional Royal Council of Ife, he refused to wait for confirmation and has been at large ever since.

According to Yoruba tradition, a king does not die alone and his burial rites include being buried with other people. An Abobaku lives his life for the king and is buried alongside the monarch. In the authentic tradition, just as there is a lineage that becomes king, there is also always a family dedicated to the ancient belief of dying with the king. It is not yet clear if the Traditional Royal Council will go ahead with the funeral following the disappearance of the Abobaku.

Earlier this month, the traditional authorities in Ile-Ife said that there will be no human sacrifice involved in the burial of Oba Sijuwade. Apparently, Oba Sijuwade abolished human sacrifices when he was still on the throne and was said to have appealed to the gods to help put a stop to human sacrifice, describing the act as barbaric, callous and inhuman.

Prominent Ifa priest, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon, confirmed the abolition of the practice, adding that what will happen instead is that the cows will be dressed up to make them look like humans. Oba Sijuwade, 85, was the 50th monarch of Ile-Ife believed to be cradle of Yoruba civilisation and the ancestral home of all Oduduwa’s offspring.

There was drama on Wednesday at the Delta State National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal when a witness presumed to be dead showed up in court.
Christopher Anirah was subpoenaed by the tribunal to give evidence an election petition matter between Hon. Gibson Ighofose Akporehe of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Hon. Evelyn Omavowan Oboro of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Counsel to the APC candidate, Mr. Charles Umweni, had told the tribunal that the witness it intends to call, (Anirah) cannot come to the tribunal to testify because he was dead.
He told the tribunal that Anirah died of cardiac attack and cannot be subpoenaed to give evidence in the ongoing case.
But at the resumed hearing of the matter, a middle aged man who claimed to be Anirah stormed the tribunal and stepped into the witness box to give evidence when the chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Adebukole Banjoko called out the name.

Anirah’s appearance caused a stir in the audience, prompting Justice Banjoko to call for calm.
Akporehe of APC is challenging the election victory of Oboro in the National Assembly election held in the state.
Joined in the suit are – the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Resident Electoral Commission (REC), PDP and eight others.
Anirah is Oboro’s star witness in the matter.

Anirah , during a cross- examination, by respondents counsel , Mr. Onome Egbon, told the tribunal that he was the rightful candidate of APC for the Okpe, Sapele and Uvwie Federal Constituency in Delta State in the 2015 National Assembly election until his name was ‘fraudulently substituted” with that of Akporehe on account that he (Anirah) was dead.

He told the tribunal that Akporehe allegedly forged a death certificate from a General Hospital that he (Anirah) died of cardiac failure and hypertension, with which he deceived INEC to remove his name from the list of contestants for the election.
He also told the tribunal that somebody who posed as his family member was made to testify before INEC that the death rumour was true.

Big things are easy to get if ya papa na big man. The Adamawa State House of Assembly has approved the nomination of Dr. Fatima Atiku Abubakar, daughter of Atiku Abubakar as a commissioner.

However, there was an anxiety when the lawmakers withheld the confirmation of Mr Ahmad Sajoh, the spokesperson of former Governor Murtala Nyako.

Twelve out of twenty-two nominees were scheduled to appear before the House on Thursday for the first phase of the screening exercise. Ten nominees were present. Mr Muhammad Barkindo, the son of the traditional ruler, Lamido Adamawa, was conspicuously absent.

There has been power tussle between Atiku and Nyako's camp since APC's victory in the last election.

Abdurrahman Abubakar, a member representing Mubi South, urged the House to clear Ahmad Sajoh, describing him as highly competent personality with good track record of service.

However, members of the public, who trooped to the House to witness the screening exercise, were surprised when the Speaker announced that 11 nominees, including Fatima Abubakar and Barkindo were confirmed, leaving out Sajoh without giving any reasons for the decision.

Nigerian-born reggae singer and guitarist, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek, is currently on admission at a rehabilitation centre in Abuja following suspected case of drug abuse.

Caregivers at the rehab centre, who preferred anonymity, said Majek was placed at the intensive care unit of the centre and is responding to treatment.

PREMIUM TIMES had earlier revealed that following the music legend’s sudden disappearance, a group of people volunteered to form a search party to establish his whereabouts for proper medical attention.

Majek, who was previously seen roaming the streets of Lagos aimlessly, had lived in the United States some years ago before being deported to Nigeria.

PREMIUM TIMES learnt that his deportation from America worsened his condition as he allegedly separated with his wife and resorted to begging.
Meanwhile a fundraising campaign to save the reggae icon’s life has been launched by a US-based musician and one-time Majek’s band-mate, Monica Omorodion Swaida, seeking fans around the world to donate to the cause.

Ms Swaida, who coordinates the fundraiser through American crowd funding platform, GoFundMe, appealed to people to “come together and help him”.

Writing on the campaign website, Ms. Swaida said, “I had the opportunity to go on tour with Majek Fashek in Africa and Abroad. I played on stage with Majek last in NYC. Majek was compared to the late icon Bob Marley.

“He was one of the greatest singer and guitarist in Nigeria. He came to America and even went as far as singing in David Letterman’s show. Majek put Nigeria on the map when it comes to music.

“Today, Majek is seen in the streets of Lagos looking for petty change to buy food and drinks. Majek looks sickly and fray. He is looking haggard! How can a national hero be left on the street like that? We must do something to take care of this man. No matter the problems majek has, whether drug related, spiritual or mental related problems, it doesn’t matter. Everyone can be saved! Let’s come together and help him.

“The family of Majek just recently got their legal papers in America and can now travel. But they need your support. They can’t do this alone. They have not been in Nigeria for over 20 years. But they want to help their dad now.

“I will personally go with the wife, Rita Majek, and the first son, Randy Majek, to Nigeria to join others fighting for this cause to help Majek. Please fans all over the world, let us help save this legend while he is still alive. God bless those reading this. Amen!”
The fund raising campaign to save the life of the ailing reggae star has so far raised $2,793.
