jimtosam: 7. Another thing I learnt about phone here. I was surprised they charge both ways..receiver and caller. So, if you can afford unlimited of T-mobile, boostmobile, etc. It will really pay compare to buying minutes. I think most of them are 50dollars/month (unlimited call, data, and SMS within USA). For International call, there are lots of services online. I use www.localphone.com. 5dollars will give you about 80mins to Nigeria line. Try to skype too.10. always tip the waiter or bar-tender any time you go to the restaurant or a bar. The first time i went to a restaurant in downtown San Francisco,i didn't tip the waiter after paying for my bills because i did not know of the tipping rules in America. As i was about to leave the restaurant, the waiter started insulting me and i felt really embarrassed. so when i went back to my hostel and told my friends about what happened, they were all laughing at me. they told me that i must always tip a waiter, a doorman or a bag boy, bar-tender or a taxi driver 20 percent of my total bills. its like an unwritten law in America ( America is a really funny country, if you asked me ) But you don't need to tip at the fast food joint or supermarket. |
bigfrancis21: Wow. Is the $450 annually? That's quite cheap.dude, that must be a monthy rent rate. In America I don't think one can get a $450 annually rent. Infact in san francisco, the least price I have seen for a one room with shared bathroom(utilities not include) is $650. This place is so very damn expensive. |
All those saying the Nigerian guy should be hang are not fair to him. You didn't not even given him the chance to defend himself or even hear his own side of his story. Yet, you guys are saying he should be hang. Do u guys know if he was set up by somebody, or if he his innocent of the crime? Yes. It is possible that somebody may want him dead and put the drugs inside his luggage without his consent or knowledge. Please let us hear his side of the story before passing judgment. |
WARYZ: I got to the embassy around 9am,i sat 4 a lil while, and it was time 4 the 10am pple to go in.we were checkd as usual and we enterd the embassy, the man on counter 3 was denying everybody, while the man on counter 1 was issuing every1.i prayed to God to giv me dat man on counter 1,and so he didmy brother, congratulation o. I am truly happy for you because you deserve it. Anyway, thank God for your success. Getting visa is only thru hard work and God help |
WARYZ: Congrats bro,I pray I share the same kinda testimony next 2 weeks thursday.AMENWARYZ, don't worry. I know that God will see thru. Just try to be confidence during your interview and also pray very well b4 ur interview because US visa is only by God's grace |
successgrace: Hello House I got my Visa on July 2, sorry dis is coming late it is actually because I have been out of town.congratulation on your visa!!! I was also at the US consulate Lagos at 7.30am on july 2nd. I was also praying for the VO in counter 4 to interview me that day. Anyway, Thank God for seeing us thru. I guess the rain that day was a rain of blessing. I also want to use this medium to advice future student visa applicants to apply to good schools because it will help you during your visa interview to get your visa approve ( I don't mean that you must apply to Schools like havard or stanford to get visa). A guy visa was rejected in my presence because he applied to community college. The VO told him why is he going for associate degree when he already has an undergraduate degree in a Nigeria uni. Also, try to pay your SEVIS fee at least a week b4 your visa interview. An undergraduate student visa applicant was also rejected that day because his uncle in USA paid his SEVIS fee one day before his interview so he could not print his receipt b4 his visa interview. He tried to explain to the VO that his uncle paid the SEVIS the day b4 the interview date but the oyibo man did not listen to him and his visa was deny without the VO interviewing him. My 2 kobo |
bypassit: Dear house,i applied for an emergency request and i was denied but initially,i picked 22 of Aug and i clicked the Auto schedule option and a mail came in and i was scheduled for 10th but my school resumes 6th of August so its still late.i did my auto reshedule twice. My initial date was sept 4th which was not convenient for me. So i clicked auto reshedule and i got aug 22th the following day which was nt also convenient for me. Although u wouldnt spend that amount. Those touts( cotonou immigration officers) collected one thousand naira from me. U may pay more than that because there are many touts in cotonou border. Just try to avoid them by hiding ur document n money.I payed about 42k to convert to d required CFA currency ecobank demanded (i guess they cheated me). Pls dnt go with ur original documents. Go with only photocopy of ur i2o form and photocopy of ur passport. I HATE DA USELESS COUNTRY CALLED BENIN because they have 2 many touts there |

I went to the US consulate Lagos by 6am today for my 7.30am appointment. I also met a fellow nairalander walex there. so we had a little chat before our regular screening by the security officers in the Consulate. At about 7.30am we were all usher in to the Embassy complex. At about 9am, my number was called for my visa interview with the v.o in counter one immediately he interviewed and granted walex his visa. This was how my interview went. V.O= can i have your document me: i gave him my document v.o: why did you apply to sfsu? me: sfsu has an industrial assessment center that is use for conducting research in energy system and its school of engineering is over 12o years old making it the oldest in California state uni v.o: what oda school did you apply for? me: told him v.o: why didnt you accept the oda school? me: didnt get accepted V.O: what course are you going for? me: Msc in Energy systems Engineering v.o: why do you want to study Energy Systems Engineering me: i decided to study Energy systems because Nigeria Energy sector is still developing and as he may have notice the power situation in Nigeria is not too regular but the government is trying to fix the energy problem in Nigeria so there is high demand for energy engineers in Nigeria.i also told him my dad work in an Energy company that is EXXON MOBIL so i ( v.o cuts me) V.O: So your dad works in Mobil? me: yes V.O: can i have a letter from Exxon Mobil to confirm that? me: (confuse because i didnt come with any letter from Mobil)i have my dad's salary payslip and his Mobil salary statement of account( i gave him the documents and i was scared because my the amount in my dad's statement of account was 500,000 naira short of the amount on my i20 form! luckily, the V0 looked only at my dad's monthly salary payslip which were in six figures) v.o: has your dad traveled to us? me: yes. Exxon Mobil headquarters in Texas v.o: (typing on his computer) me i guess he brought out my dad's ds-160 form from his computer)v.o: your dad has also traveled to an asia country, can you please tell me the country? me: ( surprised!!, how the Bleep did he know that? but i didnt fill that on my ds-160) yes, China. for an Exxon mobil training v.o: there is also another country in Asia that he has traveled to, can u please tell me? me: ( thinking for like 20 sec because i could not remember the other country, all of a sudden i just remembered it) he also traveled to Singapore in 2005 also for Exxon Mobil training course v.o:how many kids does your dad have? me: told him v.o: whats your position in your family me: told him v.o: when did you graduate from uni me: aug 2010 v.o: what have you been doing since you graduated? me: serving my nysc and will be passing out by july( i lied o. i be batch c and na November be my pop.that is after my schools resumption date of aug 17th) v.o: ok.did you write GRE me: yes( i give him my score sheet and was scared because my verbal score was 143 which is kind of low) v.o: OK. your visa has been approved( at this point i was not listening to him, i was just happy to listen to him) bla bla bla bla on friday( i guess he said my visa will be ready on friday) so please if you want to lie better be careful o because the v.o may have information on you either thru your family member ds-160 form. Before the interview i was praying to God not to give me this v.o because he asks 2 much questions to visa applicants unlike the oda V.Os but God knew the reason why i got interviewed by him. |

deevick246: Just 2 items basically, which are PHOTOCOPIES of your international passport page and i-20 form. Please, keep this items well, don't let those peeps sight them on you. Be tactical and smart. Again I wish you all the best in your adventure.thanks for your info. But can i pay at the bank in naira or must it be in dollars |
deevick246: Okay, but I don't know about the idi-iroko route to cotonou. I only know of the Mile2 route. From Mile2 garage or so or better still you ask from anyone at Mile2 where you can board Cotonou transport. It shouldn't be more than N600.what are the documents do i need to take alone. Is the payment in naira or dollars? |
imperiouxx: Yes sir, if that's your only means. That was how I paid mine last October. Thanks for your info. Because i just called my uncle in US to pay it thru credit card. I have never been to Cotonou. Can u please tell me how to get to their office from lagos. The documents i need to carry alone, The currency i need to pay with. And how long it takes to process it. I hope i can get it process b4 july 2nd. |
All those that apply for emergency visa last week should check their mail. My initial date was august 23 but i was reshedule to july 2 in lagos. The most funny thing is that i have not yet paid my sevis fee. Can anyone pls direct me to any reliable agent where i can pay the sevis in lagos or ph. |
Stantiques: I see oo ,U can only get emergency date if your sch resumption date is 60 days from the day u apply for emergency visa interview. Thats what the customer care center told me when i called them on friday. So if your resumption is before 17th aug, then u still hope. |
