ivory23456: Hi everyone, this is the first time I'm commenting here. Been reading all your posts. I had my visa interview today in lagos and I was denied . While all the male VO's were just approving visas, the lady VO was just denying all that came along.
I got admiSsion into pittsburg state uni in Kansas for an MBA.
This was how my interview went:
VO: what school are you going to?
ME: said
Vo: course?
Me: said
VO: how did you know about the school
Me: told her on the internet
VO: why did you choose it
ME: gave some reasons
VO: where did you get your first degree.
ME: University of abuja.
VO: what course?
ME: Economics
VO: do you still live in abuja?
ME: no, I stay in lagos now.
VO: what have you been doing since you graduated in 2010
ME: I did my youth service(told her where I worked) and I joined the family business in August '11
VO: who is your sponsor?(I must mention here that $12000 out of my $23304 schools fees has been paid because its a criteria in the school before I20 can be sent to you)
ME: my sister and my mum and the business decided to pay a little part of my fees per year
VO: asked for bank staements
ME: I showed.(I dunno if this was the problem: my sister's balance is about 3.5m but my mum's is about 500k. My mum's own is low cause she just finished building a block of flats)
VO: How many other schools I applied to.
ME: Uni of Washington, Portland state university and Michigan state university.
VO: why did you chose Pitt state
ME: Said.(I said something like "pittsburg state uni has a small business development center that helps new and existing businesses
, and the graduate students will be able to work with the businesses and assist in the center. I didn't clearly explain what I meant. I think the word "work" I said there shot me in the foot.)She typed for long on her computer and said "sorry your visa cannot be issued at this time" and gave me that 214(b) letter.
Please does anyone know if something else could be the reason for denial and what I can do to better my chances cause I want to re apply.
School resumes on the 11th of August.

your interview was not too bad but I think you was denied because you had 2 sponsors and the funds in their account was not really sufficient..you should reapply with only one sponsor with sufficient funds of at least one year school fees in his account.. I wish you good luck

You think you know, but you wrote "the referring". Explain why you used "the" before referring. What kind of grammar is that? Confisticate was an honest typo error. The whole world knows it is confiscate. By the way, look at my writing again if I actually typed "confisticated" as you claimed. Is your reading glasses dirty, lost or stolen? You better don't dare me when it comes to English Language. I don't think you know the difference between making mistakes when someone fails to proofread their writings and when someone just plainly writing nonsense.

Olodo English Professor, The correct spelling is 'OWN' not 'WON' and Also Its actually written English not spoken English.. you don't know how I speak because you have never heard me speak so its written English.You claimed to live in USA so you should know that there are many Americans who speak perfect English but cant compose a Letter or write an Essay in good and correct English. First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. Anyway, This is not an English class or a discussion about English Language

Is it a crime to live and hustle in US, Nigeria is my home and I love my country till death. I will always try my best to make Nigeria better in my own little way. I just dont like it when people say shit and poo about my country.. [b]I observed that most of those saying that the western countries like USA and UK is safe have never traveled out of Nigeria or are just biased.. I dont blame them because before I traveled out of Nigeria, I used to think that Nigeria is the most unsafe and worse country in the world. I currently live in Oakland California which is often call the murder capital of America. This city is control by the Mexican drug cartel and black American gangs. Infact, the murder rate here in Oakland, California is like 2 murder everyday. In-fact a Nigerian Mrs Doris Chibuko was shot to death last year in Oakland.. The problem with America is that any psycho or Mad Man can easily buy a gun; buying a gun here is as easy as going to buy food in Buka or a restaurant.. America has a big gun problem..There is no day that innocent people are not rob over here and just like in Lagos breaking into people home is very very common here.. I guess that the reason most people spend like $30 a month on home alarm systems to protect their home from arm robbers. My friend was robbed in January at gun point and his car was stolen here in America, we was glad he wasnt harm or shot. Also cities like Detroit and south-side Chicago are as unsafe like Ajegunle Lagos.. I think most part of Nigeria are really safe, I served my NYSC at a village in Enugu and I dont usually locked my door when I go out. I also never experienced any killing or robbery throughout my stay in the village. Apart from some part of Lagos, most western states are safe and I think its only few states like those boko haram States that are unsafe but generally Nigeria is relatively safe Country and better then most countries in the world.. Those that believe Nigeria is unsafe should try spend 1 month in Somali, Syria or even Mexico, after your stay I bet you will all be praying to come back to Nigeria[/b]

Solozzo: Nothing wrong in getting married even if it is to enable one stay with the man you love. That is the key issue here. The immigration has to prove that it is a fake marriage!

The burden of proof falls on her and not on the immigration officers so She has to be the one to prove her that her marriage is real and not a sham.. unfortunately she could not prove that are marriage is real. If her marriage was real and genuine, She should have come back to Nigeria while her husband appeal her deportation and also try to secure a spouse visa for her..besides once she get pregnant or have a kid for him then she can easily move back to UK because having children is the best way to prove that a marriage is real

De Tus: @imperious, some of these VOs are rude. My uncle got an admission in MIT and there's no way the VO will not respect him. Infact, the US Embassy around the world do not reject Harvard and MIT student.

Although getting admission from a top school helps a lot but its not a guarantee for a Nigerian visa applicant. I think it depends a lot on the nationality of the student.. Western European students has almost 100 percent chance of getting their visa granted even if they apply for a community or very low tier colleges like Everest college..my roommate from Germany told me his visa interview lasted for just 1 min.. The VO only asked him the college he applied for. He wasnt ask any questions on sponsor, GRE, if he would come back to Germany after study, why he wanted to study in US and why he choose his college.he didn't even carried his sponsor bank statement and other documents along. he went with only his passport, i20 and admission letter. He also told me that all his friends that went for the interview got their visa granted.. Anyway you are right that most VO are rude to Africans students

MUMU, I am not going to keep my mouth shut because I have a right to express my opinion in this forum..I dont like it when some selfish Nigerians involve in immigration fraud.. People like her make it difficult for genuine Nigerian students to study abroad. She is among those that make it almost impossible for genuine Nigerian students to get student visa. She got a student visa to study in the UK and she should have been focus in maintaining her student visa status rather than involving in Immigration fraud.. If she had maintained her student Visa status in the UK, she wont have been asked to leave the country. so she should be deported back to Nigeria immediately

Does Conditional admission play any role in visa interview success? i want to know because i have three i-20s but the school I really want to go to gave me a conditional admission. if this plays a role i wouldn't mind changing to the other i-20 i have. Meaningful response from any member of the house would be appreciated

Conditional admission doesn't not influence your visa in anyway.. I got my visa with conditional Admission from my school last year so dont worry about it.. I wish you success in your interview..

May Brown, a 19-year-old college student, fled to Britain from her home country three years ago after witnessing her father's murder and being subjected to sexual abuse.

Mrs Brown, who was a games maker at last summer's Olympics and has two university offers to study law, applied to stay in the UK but despite her marriage her application was rejected.
Mr Brown, 34, said UK Border Agency officials believe their marriage to be a 'sham' with no
'emotional attachment'.

His wife was told she would be flown back to Nigeria tomorrow.

She was so distressed at the prospect of returning to her home country she took an overdose of medication.
Her mother-in-law, Helen-Claire Brown, found her collapsed on the bathroom floor on Monday morning with a note to her husband saying she 'couldn't live without him'.

The teenager was rushed to the Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester where she remains in a coma in intensive care.

May wrote: 'I am deeply sorry that I had to go this way, without even saying goodbye.

'The UK immigration has finally driven me insane. They've pushed me too far this time and I can't take the pain any more.

'I don't want a life or a future you won't be part of. I love you so much, more than life itself and can't endure the agony of not being with you.

'Please forgive me for ending it this way. It's better to die with my dignity than be subjected to torture and undignified death back in Nigeria.'

Before she took the overdose, May had said she feared her abusers would kill her if she returned to the African country because she witnessed her father's death.

She said: 'If they send me back to Nigeria they are signing my death warrant, they will cut my life short because I will be killed.

'I have found peace with Michael, he gave me a reason to live. I have got a family here and we don't claim any benefits.

'Michael works and I am studying to become a barrister, we have not harmed anybody.'

Mr Brown, a former soldier who now works for a removals company, insisted the couple's marriage was genuine and slammed the UK Border Agency for its treatment of his wife.

He said: 'May is the most beautiful, kindest, loving person I have ever met. I can't live with myself if anything happens to her.

'She is the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with and you can't pretend something like that.

'All we want is a life together. But I'm so angry that is being taken away from us.'

Mother-in-law Helen-Claire, 59, added: 'May is a part of our family and the way the immigration service has treated her is so, so wrong and heartless.

'She came here on a student visa and has applied for asylum because she fears for her life if she goes back.

'What kind of world do we live in when a 19-year-old girl who has been through so much already feels she has no other choice but to kill herself?'

Miss Brown is studying public affairs at Weymouth College and hopes to go to university and become a barrister.

A Home Office spokesman said: 'We cannot comment in detail on this case while legal proceedings are ongoing.

'In cases where people are found to have no right to remain in the UK they should leave voluntarily or face removal.'

I think she be deported to Nigerian immediately..UK governament should not waste their tax payers money on her..She is among those that give Nigerians bad name abroad.She was involved in a sham marriage for immigration purposes. She came to UK on student visa and should have gone back after her visa expired instead of involving in a fake marriage.. Anyway I wish her speed recovery

Sir, Nigeria is not the worse country in the world.. All countries in the world including America has its own problems or do you think everybody in America is rich.. their is poverty in America just like there is poverty in Nigeria.. dont make the mistake of coming to America without a green card or at least a plan..unless you wanna end up homeless in the street because nobody is going to help you with Accommodation not even your own friends and relatives..unlike the Mexicans and Asians, Nigerians in America don't like helping themselves.. its better to suffer in Nigeria than to suffer in the cold streets in America, Atleast you will always have food and shelter in Nigeria..

@ poster, Life is not easy for Greencard resident in America and it is worse for an illegal or overstay Immigrant in America.. things are really difficult in American and it will be almost impossible to get a good job without having the green-card unless you wanna be involve in illicit businesses like selling drugs or 419..The only jobs you can get is menial jobs and you wont be able to pay your bills, rent or save money with menial jobs .you cant even apply for a bank account or a drivers licenses without your paper .. Without having the right documents, The US of A is a really cold place to live in for a Nigerian because nobody is going to offer help you. I know of a Nigeria in LA that also came in with a visitor visa and the only job he could find is a waiter job in a Restaurant, he doesn't get paid by the owner of the restaurant and he only depend on tips from the customers.. So I think its better you stay in Nigeria and get your green card before coming down to the States.. its far better to live in Nigeria than to live in America as an illegal or overstay immigrant
