Christianity EtcRe: Do Catholics Believe in Being Born Again? by allonym: 5:08am On Mar 02, 2006
gigitte:
are you Godhuh what makes your own interpretation more validhuh
This is a great question. Answer, NO, I am not God. My interpretation is not more valid. However, it also means that my interpretation is just as valid as anyone else's. Especially when all of my arguments are logical and based on the bible and don't require introducing laws that some group of men decided to make up a few hundred years ago. This means that my interpretation is just as good as the pope or my pastor. To be honest. . well. . .i'll just keep this to myself.

So, a group of people decided to recognize peter as the first pope. . . . ok. . and if I recognize peter as the first idiot. . what sort of authority does that give me over idiots? Just because some group of people decided to AFTER HIS DEATH induct Peter into their circle does not make it right. Just because they have decided what goes into the bible and what doesnt. . .have changed the so called laws of the church countless times over the centuries does not make them right. If anything, it shows just how fallible they are and gives me more reason to stick to my views which would probably be unchanged.

A lot of the theological arguments today are just not even worth it. Just look at how many different and new versions of the bible pop into existence each year. I'm betting that within my lifetime, a large part of the "current" bible will be noticeably different from the King James Version which I was raised on.

If a person's proof for God's existence is:

God will speak to you and then you will know,

Since, there exists the possibility that God will NOT speak to me and I will never know. Therefore, that cannot be a proof.

I'm not trying to be mean, just stating the facts. There is a difference between saying what you believe and proving it. I have nothing against (most) of what people believe. My ears perk up when people start talking about hard facts and logical constructs.

You do understand that the scripture you are quoting essentially says that YOU don't know what you're talking about.
Christianity EtcRe: Dealing With Criticism As A Christian Body by allonym: 12:28am On Mar 01, 2006
Here is something i'm paraphrasing from a section of an economics textbook:

Q. Why are women more likely to stay at home and raise children instead of working a job?
A. Because women tend to earn less than men.

Q. Why do women earn less than men?
A. Because they don't have the skills to earn as much.

Q. Why don't women have the skills to earn as much as men?
A. Because they stay home and raise children.

I'm not going to say anything about what that section was talking about or about the validity of those questions and answers.

From a logical point of view, there is something inherently wrong with that series of questions and its answers . . .really, the answers. If you (this means anyone reading this) cannot see what is wrong with that section of Q and A, there is no point in trying to argue with me. Those who can see what is wrong and still want to argue with me, don't get caught making that same mistake.

allonym,

If you wrote a book, tell me:

How can you make over 100 prophecies about the world in 2000 years time? (that came true)
How can you reach the hearts of all 'your belivers'?
How can you make 'miracales' in their lives?
How can you speak to 'your belivers' through other people?
How can you make a man out of dust?

You can't can you! ONLY GOD CAN. Because right now your looking at the humanly side of things. You have got to think spiritually and open your heart and listen and hear these things out, because they are real, they exist. The Bible is real, its the word of God, but if you really want a relationship with God, its God you should be talking to not judging the bible. He will show you things! but its up to you to make the change.

I can try me hardest to convince you that the bible is real, but its all going to sound confusing to you. Until you open your heart and feel God.
Prophecies? You act as if the bible was all written at once by one person. Even most christians agree that the bible was written by many people over centuries of time.

So, it is easy:

1) I write a book where I "predict" things that have already happened. That is easy. . .its now called a history book.
2) I don't need to reach the hearts of anyone. . the idiots will take care of that long after I'm gone.
3) Miracles! All I have to do is tell them that it is a miracle I allowed them to wake up in the morning. . .that way, if they wake up in the morning INSTANT miracle credited to ME.
4) To speak to believers through other people. . .HA, I just need CON men who pretend that I'm speaking to them.
5) I can write in the book that I made man out of water. . .dust is sooo 1990's.

So, you see, I CAN!

Funny how my math teachers never had to tell me to open up my heart and believe 1 + 1 is 2. Laws don't say anything about "opening up your heart". Nobody had to tell me to open up my heart and believe that the sky has a blue color on a clear day. . . I certainly don't ever remember opening up my heart to be convinced of anything else that NOBODY will disagree with as being true.

So, if you want to convince me, you gotta do better than "open up your heart".

How is that any different from you saying, "I'm God, if you open up your heart and believe, you will see the truth".
Christianity EtcRe: What Do You Feel About Black Jesus? by allonym: 5:51am On Feb 28, 2006
my point is people are trying to make the argument that Jesus was "black" because he was born in Africa.

The argument partially makes sense however, there is a huge problem. Jesus was born in a place where there is question as to whether the people are actually black, where "his" people are not even considered black today under occupation of a foreign power that was definitely NOT black.
allonym see the original poster of this issue is made us understand 2 things
1 He asked hi f/male friend out but se refused
2 He now met a friend of his female friend about herself but instand of answering him se asked him to ask her out and no for himself so what do u expect an in xperinced man like hte poster to do whem he did not want to los his friend
1) He asked her out years ago and she refused then.

As for #2, my question still stands

he says she has multiple male friends. He says he hears she is willing to leave all her male friends for him.

So, what does that mean? It means that he either wants a girl who he knows dates multiple guys at once, or he is some insanely jealous guy and she knows that if she wants to be with him, she has to give up her male friends.

That is what the original poster has said. And that does not really make any sense at all.

Episodes are released every tuesday in Japan.

They are fansubbed usually by wednesday (in the US) so I expect in Nigeria, you probably have access to them within a couple hours of us.

That being said, you will tend to get a new episode each week (unless the show's "season" is over or something).
Christianity EtcRe: Dealing With Criticism As A Christian Body by allonym: 3:25am On Feb 24, 2006
A proof is circular if in order to validate the proof, you cite the proof as an assumption.

Other words are self sustaining or self referential.

Proving that the bible is in fact correct requires evidence external to the bible. If your only proof that the bible is correct is based on the bible, then you have no proof at all.

What is the difference between the bible and if I wrote a book which said most of the same thing. In a couple thousand years, I too could have founded a religion full of people who believe without question every world in my "book". What makes the book correct? Only that in the "book" I say the "book" is the only truth and everything else while it may seem to make sense is actually a lie.

If I were to write a book that makes those kinds of statements, you'd never believe them and you'd dismiss the book as being full of sh*t.

So you see, telling me that because a book says it is the truth and everything else is a lie, is not enough to convince me. Since I have the ability to actually create a book which says similar or the same thing ON MY OWN, it is not impossible that YOUR "book" was created in the SAME manner.

And if you try to tell me that the "book" says it was not created in that manner. , then you should reread this post and come up with another response.

Punish the perpetrators, and the perpetrators only.
I don't think people are quite going beyond this. . but it hearkens back to what I said earlier:

allonym:
Unless muslim leaders are able to step in and control these "rogue" elements, I guarantee that over the next 20-50 years, we will see a marginalization of Islam by the rest of the world.
However, when a child pulls a gun out and blows away his classmates, who is responsible, yes, the child is responsible. . but so is the person who got the child the gun. With many LEADERS offering up PRIZE MONEY for the deaths of other human beings, I think the punishment must extend beyond those directly carrying out the violence. Still, punish the leaders all we want, we still must deal with the speak one thing act another face of Islam. The world has seen too many times the "yeah, those people don't represent us face of Islam" and I don't think that excuse will hold for too much longer. No matter how many times you tell people not to sink to their level, if muslim radicals kill enough, they will reignite the real holy wars of our time.

BTW, I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean. . . I can't place it in the context of this conversation. . perhaps your should explain yourself:

Idekeson:
Good Job Biafrans! Very Good job!
Remember if you die in the cause, you'll reincarnate as a multi-billionaire and can marry 7 maidens if you want. Aluta Continua!

I found out what everyone was laughing at, at the end of the day, when a guy told me that when I bent over to pick up the pen i wripped my throusers.
The worst thing was that I was wearing a thong.
I will remember this for the rest of my life.
I kept laughing with my friends about it.

PoliticsRe: 16 Killed In Nigerian Cartoons Riots by allonym: 10:03am On Feb 22, 2006
I can understand anger over the cartoons.

However, every person involved in the mayhem has defied my abilities at this time to come up with adjectives that would describe them. I can easily understand why others on this thread have resorted to calling them animals. . What other term can you use for someone who kills, burns, destroys something which is doing nothing to them.

Muslims around the world claim to have a peace loving religion. They claim to be outraged over the cartoons. They claim to be a just people. Then, how do you explain the riots? The actions of an unruly FEW who don't really follow islam?

Please, that is a load of BS. How many instances of christians rioting and killing muslims or jews doing the same? Or how about Buddists rioting and killing people?

Why is it that Muslims seem to the main protagonists of so much of the negative sides of religious conflicts?

Unless muslim leaders are able to step in and control these "rogue" elements, I guarantee that over the next 20-50 years, we will see a marginalization of Islam by the rest of the world.

There is a girl who is interested in him.

He is not dating anyone.

She is not dating anyone.

Why would she drop her male friends for him? Is he some insanely jealous guy who cannot have a girlfriend who has guy friends?

If by male friends, he means she has multiple boyfriends. . .then unless he wants to become boyfriend #10 . , what is he thinking?

allonym,

The Holy Book of christians is not wrong. The Bible dosen't directly say " ONLY CHRISTIANS ARE GOING TO HEAVEN". But it does say :

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Matthew 10:33
but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
Ok, here is the problem. There are many holy books. There is no way you can tell me one is the absolute right one. I'm not saying I'm closed to the idea. . but I have not yet seen/heard/read any good reason from anyone why their "book" is right, and everyone else has the wrong book

ProgrammingRe: Is Assembly Language Dead? by allonym: 8:57am On Feb 22, 2006
One reason I will still advocate teaching assembly, especially to electrical engineers who may not delve too much in other programming languages is for a thorough understanding of pointers.

In assembly, you will learn to implement all the possible addressing modes of your processor. If there is some addressing mode that doesn't exist, you can emulate it with multiple instructions. Once you get around to accessing data in assembly, using lookup tables, or modifying data passed to a subroutine, you will quickly learn about indirect addressing modes and a smart teacher can quickly make the connection between that and all pointer stuff. For example, address register indirect addressing with post increment. . corresponds in c to:

*p_dest++;

So, if anything, its a great tool for learning everything about pointers. . which ultimately is the building block for just about anything interesting in C or C++.
