Vl3ly: Ghana plans to buy oil with gold instead of dollars
The move is aimed at tackling dwindling forex reserves amidst rising inflation and a weakening local currency.
The West African nation has warned it is facing its worst economic crisis in a generation [File: Reuters] Published On 24 Nov 2022
Ghana’s government is working on a new policy to buy oil products with gold rather than US dollar reserves, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has said on Facebook.
The move, announced on Thursday, is meant to tackle dwindling foreign currency reserves coupled with demand for dollars by oil importers, which is weakening the local cedi and increasing living costs.
Ghana’s Gross International Reserves stood at around $6.6bn at the end of September 2022, equating to less than three months of imports cover. That is down from around $9.7bn at the end of last year, according to the government.
The rise of Mohammed Kudus, pride of Nima and Ghana’s golden boy end of list.
If implemented as planned for the first quarter of 2023, the new policy “will fundamentally change our balance of payments and significantly reduce the persistent depreciation of our currency”, Bawumia said.
Using gold would prevent the exchange rate from directly impacting fuel or utility prices as domestic sellers would no longer need foreign exchange to import oil products, he explained.
“The barter of gold for oil represents a major structural change,” he added.
The proposed policy is uncommon. While countries sometimes trade oil for other goods or commodities, such deals typically involve an oil-producing nation receiving non-oil goods rather than the opposite.
[b]Ghana produces crude oil, but it has relied on imports for refined oil products since its only refinery shut down after an explosion in 2017.[b]
Bawumia’s announcement was posted as Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta announced measures to cut spending and boost revenues in a bid to tackle a spiralling debt crisis.
In a 2023 budget presentation to parliament on Thursday, Ofori-Atta warned that the West African nation was at high risk of debt distress and that the cedi’s depreciation was seriously affecting Ghana’s ability to manage its public debt.
The government is negotiating a relief package with the International Monetary Fund as the cocoa, gold and oil-producing nation faces its worst economic crisis in a generation.
SOURCE: REUTERS Way to go! Ghana and all producers of gold like Nigeria must desist from further gold exports and use gold as a currency reserve stored in the vaults of Central Banks because gold prices will go higher due to global market uncertainties in the months ahead. |

1stGenAmerican: Russian Soldiers Are Freezing To Death In Eastern Ukraine Story by David Axe, Forbes Staff • 15h ago
-There is a video link in the story of a Russian soldier with hypothermia struggling to commit suicide that was too brutal for me to finish watching. View at your own peril. Not the Twitter video on the source page, the story with the hyperlink.
The Ukrainian army has deployed some of its best brigades to eastern Ukraine, including the 92nd and 93rd Mechanized Brigades and the 1st Presidential Brigade. But these elite Ukrainian formations might not be the biggest killer of Russian troops in the east. Under-trained, under-supplied and ambivalently led, Russians in the region are freezing to death by the dozen.
Shocking videos that have circulated online in recent weeks tell a tragic story. The videos, shot by the Ukrainian brigades’ hovering drones, depict Russians in the late stages of hypothermia, so cold and sick that they barely react when the drones drop lethal improvised bombs on them.
Thomas Theiner, an ex-soldier who currently is a filmmaker in Kyiv, predicted winter “would kill more Russian soldiers than Ukraine ever could.” He may have been right.
Winters in Ukraine start wet and cold then get colder and drier. Eastern Ukraine still is in the wet-cold phase—and it’s brutal. Deep mud mires armored vehicles. Daytime temperatures hover around freezing, while nighttime temperates dip closer to zero degrees Fahrenheit.
With preparation, sound leadership and reliable logistics, the conditions are survivable. Soldiers bundle up, sleep in roofed, heated trenches with floors, frequently change their wet socks and eat twice as much as they would on warm days. When they get sick, they evacuate to the rear for rest.
The problem, for the Russian army, is that more and more of its troops are untrained draftees. Officers aren’t leading from the front. And Russian logistics are strained by nonstop Ukrainian bombardment. Starving draftees with no gloves or good boots are huddling in shallow, unheated trenches while their officers squat in abandoned houses potentially miles away, unaware or uncaring as their soldiers succumb to the elements.
When you’re wet, hungry and exposed to the nighttime cold, it doesn’t take long for hypothermia to set in. One bad night is enough. Even moderate hypothermia can result in confusion, decreased reflexes and loss of motor skills.
Which explains the drone massacre that’s been playing out lately over contested eastern towns such as Svatove, Pavlivka and Bakhmut. Hypothermic Russian troops aren’t even trying to flee when Ukraine’s bomb-armed quadcopter drones buzz overhead. The soldiers barely flinch when a bomb explodes in their fighting position.
Suicides evidently are on the rise. One especially gut-wrenching video depicts a Russian combatant in scrape outside Bakhmut trying to shoot himself in the chest as a Ukrainian drone watches from directly overhead. The Russian’s ungloved right hand is blue with cold, and he struggles to pull the trigger.
The video feed cuts. When we see the Russian again, he apparently has succeeded in killing himself. He doesn’t move when the drone’s bomb explodes beside him.
It’s hard to say for sure how many Russians have died of the cold. But it’s worth noting that just one Russian marine unit, the 155th Naval Infantry Brigade, reportedly lost as many as 500 killed and 400 wounded in just the last three months fighting around Pavlivka. That’s potentially half the brigade’s original strength.
A nearly one-to-one killed-to-wounded ratio—one to three is normal—speaks to the collapse of Rusisan leadership ... and to the cold. Wounded troops, lying exposed to the elements, are dying before anyone bothers to rescue them.
Expect many, many more Russians to freeze to death as the weather gets worse. “Temperatures are forecasted to drop throughout Ukraine over the next week,” the Institute for the Study of War in Washington, D.C. noted on Saturday.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2022/11/27/russian-soldiers-are-freezing-to-death-in-eastern-ukraine/?sh=dad7e2042541 No kiddin'... This is very deep! There's REAL drone video evidence here. I hope more protective clothing gets to these Russian fighters. Not all of them are in support of this war situation. This is a legit front page story from Forbes. Cc: Nlfpmod, Mynd44 |

1stGenAmerican: Russian official staggeringly admits 'we have no socks, shorts, doctors, or intelligence' Story by Charles Harrison, Liam Doyle
One of the Kremlin's most prominent nationalist politicians said the Russian military does not have an adequate number of doctors or other adequate supplies in an extraordinary tirade against the state of Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine. During a meeting on Saturday with the mothers of soldiers mobilised for the war, Leonid Slutsky, leader of the populist Liberal Democratic Party and chairman of the foreign relations committee in the lower house of parliament, has been a staunch supporter of the invasion - but offered a surprising public admission of issues facing the Russian military.
He said at the meeting: "There are not enough doctors in the military units; everyone says this. I cannot say they do not exist at all, but they are practically not seen there.
"We must understand that the whole world is watching us. We are the largest state and when we do not have socks, shorts, doctors, intelligence, communications, or simply care for our children, questions arise that will be very difficult to answer."

Even in the Soviet Union era, perceived opponents were killed or sent to the gulags or concentration camps in Siberia leading to the death of millions of Russian citizens.

With a professional polygraphic examination expert, any lie told can be detected using the lie detector. I have watched several forensic and crime detection documentaries for decades now, and one thing about lie detection machines is that they are near-accurate. This device has even been used to catch cheating partners and solve cases of paternity fraud.
Combine finger print detection, DNA testing of hair strands and body fluids, and lie detection (using polygraphic machines), most crime cases can easily be solved by detectives or private investigators! All the best. |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Trump Sued For Rape Under New NY Survivors Law by AlphaTaikun: 4:21am On Nov 28, 2022 |
DaveHarry: Writer E Jean Carroll has sued Donald Trump in the US state of New York for allegedly raping her in the 1990s.
Ms Carroll is among the first to sue under the Adult Survivors Act, which came into effect on Thursday.
The state law allows a one-year period for victims to file sexual assault lawsuits in New York over claims that would have otherwise exceeded statute limitations.
The former president has denied the allegations against him.
Ms Carroll alleges the attack took place in a New York luxury department store dressing room 27 years ago.
The Adult Survivors Act allows victims to come forward if the sexual assault occurred when they were over the age of 18 and took place on a date that exceeds time limits that exists on most felonies.
It is modelled after the state's recent Child Abuse Act, which applied to victims who were abused as minors.
The Child Abuse Act, which came into effect in 2019, allowed a two-year period for victims to come forward. Around 11,000 lawsuits were filed in New York against churches, hospitals, schools, camps and other institutions under that law.
Ms Carroll has also sued former President Trump for defamation after he accused her of lying when she first made her allegations public in 2019. Mr Trump has called Ms Carroll's claims "fiction". A civil trial for that case is scheduled for 6 February.
In a statement, Ms Carroll's attorney, Roberta Kaplan, said the new lawsuit filed on Thursday is intended to hold Mr Trump accountable for the alleged assault.
Alina Habba, a lawyer for Mr Trump, told US media that, while she respects and admires individuals that come forward "this case is unfortunately an abuse of the purpose of this Act" and "runs the risk of delegitimising the credibility of actual victims".
Others are also planning to file lawsuits under the new law.
This includes a planned class action lawsuit against Robert Hadden, a former gynaecologist at hospitals tied to New York-Presbyterian and Columbia University, who has been accused by dozens of patients of sexual abuse.
Mr Hadden was convicted in 2016 on sex-related charges in state court, but has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of abusing female patients over two decades.
Advocates for survivors of sex abuse believe the legislation provides an opportunity for people to come forward who may not have done so previously due to trauma or fear of retaliation.
Several other states have also extended or temporarily eliminated their statues of limitation on sex crimes in the wake of the #MeToo in 2018, including New Jersey, California, Arizona and Montana. This is gonna be hard to prove without any forensic evidence based on finger prints and semen samples. My instincts tell me that Trump did what he was accused of but a lot of time has elapsed. On the other hand, a lie detector machine can be used on Trump and the lady (Jean Carroll) to unravel the specifics of this alleged rape in the 1990s. So, 1stGenAmerican, what do you think (as an attorney) will be the legal outcome of this case in NY? |

Think about the covetousness and the implied right to rewards without risk. This is what has destroyed Nigeria and is directly related to your comment. Immigrants from the 3rd World are being encouraged by Democrats to bring this culture to the USA and with time this country is going to become just like Nigeria. It's already happened in California, Illinois and Washington State.

adamusuleiman11: Half of Twitter's top 100 advertisers appear to no longer be advertising on the website. A report from Media Matters for America states that these 50 advertisers have spent almost $2 billion on Twitter ads since 2020 and more than $750 million just in 2022.
Seven additional advertisers have slowed their advertising to almost nothing, according to the report, which was published on Tuesday. These companies have paid Twitter more than $255 million since 2020.
Chevrolet, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., Ford, Jeep, Kyndryl, Merck & Co. and Novartis AG all issued statements about halting Twitter ads or were reported and confirmed as doing so. The others ceased advertising on the platform for a "significant period of time following direct outreach, controversies, and warnings from media buyers."
The report wrote that even with these hits to advertising revenue, Twitter CEO Elon Musk has "continued his rash of brand unsafe actions — including amplifying conspiracy theories, unilaterally reinstating banned accounts such as that of former President Donald Trump, courting and engaging with far-right accounts, and instituting a haphazard verification scheme that allowed extremists and scammers to purchase a blue check." Twitter users like author Stephen King have criticized the new blue checkmark system. The symbol used to verify the identity of Twitter accounts, so it was easy to confirm a tweet's source.
Eli Lilly and Co. stopped showing ads on Twitter the day after an account impersonating the pharmaceutical company — complete with a purchased blue check mark — posted, "We are excited to announce insulin is free now."
Eli Lilly asked Twitter to take it down, but the tweet remained up for hours, because the platform's staff was stretched thin due to recent layoffs and resignations. The tweet garnered hundreds of retweets and thousands of likes, and Eli Lilly's stock soon took a dive.
Endpoints News reported that 12 pharmaceutical giants soon stopped buying Twitter ads, citing Pathmatics, which collects data on corporate advertising and digital marketing trends.
King quipped on Twitter, "Pretty soon the only advertiser left on Twitter will be My Pillow." The pillow-manufacturing company is run by pro-Trump conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell.
Twitter did not immediately respond to NPR's request for comment.

pansophist: So it's prediction time now, oya lemme sharply drop my own prediction. Just in case you haven't been informed, China is the new superpower, and have beaten the US to the second, something the US cannot accept. (If you need prove why I said China is the new superpower, let me know).
NATO now have switched from being a regional defense alliance to a global one, in an attempt of extending to Eurasia and defeat the Chinese. As it stands now, there is absolutely nothing the West can do to defeat China, except militarily, and China knows this, and are preparing for that day.
The Ukraine war was the trigger of the birth of this new world order, led by the Putin. The US pulled out of Afghanistan to prepare for this war. Regardless if Russia wins or not, there will be massive military conflict in Eurasia.
The last card the US can play with China is Taiwan, and China will watch the world burn to ashes than let Taiwan go. It's a redline that must not be crossed for the Chinese. The US knows this, and will keep fanning the flame.
If the episode of the birth of a new world order passed, the world will see peace, and returns back to its statue quo of how the world have always been prior to the reconnaissance period (around 1500s), time before Europe started colonizing the world.
With the current model of the US-led world order, no country will grow without their approval. How can you grow when they control the global banks, currencies, media, world court, shipping lanes, politics, just name it, social media, just everything.
You can't grow in another man's system. It will never happen. You only grow on your feet, and China paid that price. They are the only country that the US can not sanction, because they lived under sanction for the first thirty years of its founding, and built their systems entirely out of Western dependence.
What I don't know is the possibility of nuclear war. Because that would be the end of the world. But if there is no nuclear war, you can consider the US a regional power from today, as in, right now. I'll drop a quote by Sun Tzu from the book "the art of war"
China already won, because they have prepared for today since 1949 when the country was founded by Mao. It's only an envious person that wants to fight and destroy shit. But a strong man ignores. Currently, China is the only country that over 150 countries globally are their main trade partners.
So if the US some how disappear from the world map right now, most countries won't miss it, because you don't trade with them. But if China does, the global economy will collapse. If you mostly listen to western media, all what I wrote may come off as shocking, and that is the problem. Interesting perspectives. The last paragraph is true because China is at the epicenter of the global supply-chain... Disrupt this chain and many countries will suffer financially due to a sharp drop in demand from the hugely populated and resource-hungry China. |
