1stGenAmerican: This entitled epistle confirms something that I’ve told you guys on Nairaland before today—one of the first things Nigerians do when they arrive abroad is badmouth other Nigerians with any white people who listen and that’s another reason whites have little respect for Nigerians. White guys won’t pick a Nigerian to badmouth other white guys with but Nigerians pick any willing white people and badmouth fellow Nigerians, Cameroonians, Beninese, African-Americans, and anybody else black.
If the white colleagues cared about this guy, they would’ve immediately offered him rides to and from work when he told them their plight.
When this person made plans to migrate to the UK, he knew that he would experience cold temperatures so why would he wait until he was cold and instead of buying his own clothes, go to church and complain about the cold so that another man could use the money he hustles for to supply this guy with clothes? The guy basically said that he rather use his money to send to his people in Nigeria than spend it in the country where it is but I guess his family is Nigeria is more important that the Ghanaian’s family.
I agree that Nigerians abroad are stingy, including my own father, uncle, and aunts , but the reason is after they moved away from Nigeria, their eyes open to how manipulative and entitled some Nigerians are.
Some Nigerians here in the diaspora look for weddings to attend solely to eat free food.
These people don’t bother bringing a gift and don’t bother greeting the bride, groom, or families. The average wedding reception here in the US or the UK costs $20 per guest and that adds up fast. The people they want to charge are these uninvited guests so if they want to charge the people who didn’t receive an actual invitation, don't bring even $1 as a gift, don’t bother to greet the bride or groom, immediately start begging for food, drinks, and takeaway plates in front of other guests. I don’t blame them for charging. Some insightful takes you made in your post brown sugar. "A Two-way Convo Summary"1stGenAmerican: "I'm an American, okay?! ... not a Nigerian. I don't wanna be tagged or identified with any of y'all entitled, trouble makers... We move!" (rolls eyes) AlphaTaikun: "1stGen American be talking like she don't know what's up. She be talking..."
"How come YOU know so much about Nigerian Diaspora weddings and reception gate-crashers? Oh, I get it... You must be a regular at many of these Nigerian-themed weddings." (eye brows raised) But seriously though, once wedding invites have been served, nobody... and I mean absolutely nobody has a right to tag along with invitees to gate-crash a wedding reception or party without even giving a $1 gift! I'm stunned by this info from you. I've never heard of the "free foodie" wrecking crew at Nigerian Diaspora weddings though. Costs truly add up for some couples or celebrators. I don't blame some folks who go for classy but minimalist wedding ceremonies under a gazebo on a resort's beach front, even though they have the funds to stage big weddings with many guests. That's my kinda style. You're very good when it comes to giving out "low blows." You got me really crackin' up in your last paragraph... That's the "mo gbo mo ya" wrecking crew. There's even a popular and hilarious song track for them. Lol. |

morinto: Last year when I enter into the U. K the person that took me from the train station to house told me to pay his transport fare and sim card as noivce I paid the money. After some months I later attended church and I was complaining about cold in which a Ghanaian man took me for shopping and bought winter cloths for me. Can you imagine me my Nigerian friends was asking me if he was gay because my fellow man took me out for shopping?
Also a Nigeria man organise his marriage in the UK and charge every one 20 pounds to enter his marriage reciption. That we can't come and eat free food in his marriage. When I got covid last year All my Nigeria friends did not visit me. It was only my Ghanaian friends that visited me with provision and I was beginning to get feed up with my naija people.
Also at my place of work do u know my Nigeria people charge as money close to uber price and more expensive than bus just to take us to the same work there are going and if u complain there will tell u to go and catch the bus in which UK bus is very frustrating because the bus always pass a very long route. Right now the India people that usually carry us free are now asking us for money close to uber price just to give us lift saying our Nigeria brothers don't carry them free so there can't carry us free. I try explaining to them that I am both treated the same way u are treated but dem nor want to hear looking at every Nigeria as wicked people I also work in a ware house. Most Nigeria in the warehouse was complaining of a very particular man who was a supervisor and a Nigeria man. Omo this man dey snitch on us Africa people and also harassing us before the white people so that he can get manger position in which he later get and many African in my working place keep telling me my brother is wicked. So I have to warn them that the bastard Nigeria is not my brother but a selfish person that want to get people sack because he wants to climb on the top. I have alot of stories to type but am tired of typing. I keep asking if the UK has a stingy spirit that once we enter the UK we become stingy? How's it going? You arrived in the UK in 2021 and you are already making sweeping generalizations about Nigerian stinginess in your post and post title. I don't want to minimize your experiences since your arrival in Jand, but you have to realise that people have good and bad individual differences. That Nigerian supervisor dude at the warehouse where you work has to learn to develop people management skills. We've also read about some Indian, Lebanese and Chinese supervisors doing the same harsh thing to their Nigerian blue-collar workers, but there have been some resistances to those bad treatments using the Nigerian Labor Union. You guys have to make formal complaints as well and not continue to be treated badly at work. I've a younger bruv living and working in England who sends regular gifts to fam members on different continents without even being asked! That's a lovable, non-stingy guy there despite the shaky UK and global economic headwinds due to high inflation triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and the monthly increases in U.S. interest rates by the Fed since March 2022 to curb U.S. record inflation, (which then made the USD to be strong but it also weakened many other global currencies). The wedding reception 20 Pounds money that was charged by your Nigerian friend is strange. If a wedding is gonna take place, a man and the lady he wants to "wife" have to plan their expenses down to the "tee," and if the funds ain't enough, they go for a minimalist wedding and reception with the aid of a specialist wedding planner. By reducing your number of guests, you save cost. Period. I'm aware that Yoruba weddings in Nigeria, USA, UK, Canada, etc, are majorly funded big time (for hundreds of years now) by the bride's family members who gladly pool financial resources together in a communal way, with lots for guests to eat and drink at wedding receptions. Of course, guests bring along the usual gifts for the couple. While the Yorubas (with over 50 million in population worldwide) have a unique style of funding their wedding ceremonies via the "Ebi" [Family] system, the other distinct 250 ethnic groups in all the regions of Nigeria have wedding traditions that aren't the same with the Yorubas. I hope this helps you to stay on track in the UK. All the best. Cc: 1stGenAmerican |

ModestGal: Its just like you saying Nigerians are wealthy and citing examples of Adeleke,Adenuga,Dangote and using Banana island parties ass examples. They are truthfully rich but they are not up to 20% of Nigerians, because more than 80% of Nigerians are in abject poverty. One thing I love about Western countries is that they work with statistics. As at this moment, statistics still show that black people are the poorest in all Western Countries and they have the highest death and Crime rates. Talkess of Black Muslims or Nigerian Muslims. Immigrants still remain the poorest. That's what the data shows and even a blind man can easily see that
Regarding thee examples you made, in your own thinking,if I should create a group, those people would be the one in the group right? Im a realist dear, if i create a Muslim black group now,i only would have people in shelter(Somalians) in the group. I understand you are hurt because you are a Muslim, but you need to grow out of trying to defend a group because you were naturally born in the group or because you choose the group. Muslims aren't doing WELL anywhere, its a fact. If you continue to deny the truth, you will not grow
Personally, I don't have Muslim female friends and may never have because most of them don't have anything to offer than toxic competition, though its generally female things. Once a sister is religious, there's a high chance that the sis would be boring as hell when it comes to conversations. I'm religious but Im not boring and we still have many like myself but they are very very few because it's hard for me to find any. Nah,I don't wanna gossip about how some people would enter hell due to their chosen way of life all day Lol. @ModestGal, "you love to use slide tackles... kilode gan?" Your reference to Somali folks in the Canadian shelters cracked me up. Lol. Your opening comment is nicely put though. I agree with your POV there. You seem to still like being introverted, and love your personal space, but also like to explore new ways of doing things. Some last borns act like that. You reckon? It's interesting that you think I am. I'm not a Muslim, but have Muslims in my fam tree. I've read real books about Islam and other faiths or teachings over the years so as to be well-grounded about life. I hate dogmatic teachings though, and will ask relevant questions! About being boring and NOT being dynamic, you have a strong point as I have also read about this boring nature of over-religious folks among Xtians and others, not only members of the Muslim ummah. So, yeah, that's a personal weakness and lack of flexibility which the individuals have to change by upgrading their public speaking skills and reading books on current and past events. A boring marital life or friendship must be avoided by developing the needed skills. I like the perspectives you brought out in your post. In near-absolute terms, they are valid. I'll talk to you later. Enjoy your day. |

But won't be Muslim groups though, just a general group. because most muslims don't really have money and its money im looking for . I've been considering that as I really do love having groups That's okay... The part about Muslims not really having money is debatable though. Over the years, I've known a lot of successful folks of Muslim heritage. Most don't brag or make a noise about the money they have. The Houston Rockets MVP and basketball legend Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon, the Ibadan-born, Texas-based Nigerian-American Kase Lawal who is a billionaire oil and gas magnate, and much more are very wealthy. While some gentlemen backs off after knowing who i am, few becomes feral and throw insults at me for no reason whatsoever.
Maybe you lots are just always horney or most of the women back home are subjected to feel inferior in the society , or you probably meet sluts everyday of your life and you have no experience of being rejected but i dont think its nice to sexually harass a lady. I think its immature, short and brutish. This is one of the weak sides of this discussion forum. Seun can do better by hiring more mods to deal with the toxic hate speeches and sexual harassments here. The current number of paid and unpaid mods here are overstretched! In the U.S. and UK for instance, those harassing women with lewd comments online can get tracked easily and be made to pay for their crimes. |

I mean those that aren't married and still young. I've met many old ones, most of the things they want to discuss are not interesting, total turn off.
I don't want students as well, I hardly play with students. But I haven't seen any student as well. I've come across many non Muslim girls Or is it that they are out of the big cities? Never in my life felt like leaving Ontario Please guys,if you are in other province, let me know @Modestgal, What young age range are you looking for? If you can't find them in the big cities like Ontario, then the young non-student, and unmarried Nigerian Muslims won't be in the small towns either because most immigrants gravitate more to the big cities to find work. Second, I didn't realise when I first noticed your profile and posts years back that you're a Muslim until now... You never gave a hint or sounded like one. Lol. But that's okay. Why not create a Website or social media presence where the target young audience you want can meet and drive targeted web traffic to it? saxywale2: Still economics. My last post on this thread.
There is quantitative tightening under Biden while there was quantitative easing under Trump. When you keep reducing interest rate (to enforce cheap credit) as we saw in the case of trump, the economy will continue to heat up and it becomes an employees market. Employers would offer higher wages to keep or hire people in a tight market, and this will eventually bring about Inflation. Inflation would bite much harder into those increased wages. People will feel poorer even with high wages than they were before the increase in wages. A correction is now taking place. Enjoy the ride if you are American.

viodemus: Congratulations to the Nigerians (yorubas) elected.
On a side note: what are the igbos doing there? The yorubas are slowly but surely surpassing us in many fields, soon they will over pass us.
We (igbos) need to reset ourselves. We are a great people but we have let ego(pride), ignorance, and arrogance go away from our ways. The igbos, the well to do ones, in America and UK, are entangled with ignorance and arrogance.
The last time I was in America, I went to see a friend, so when I ordered an uber to leave, me and my friend were chatting in front of the yard but he decided to go get his phone from inside the house, not 1 minute after he went in, an uber pulled up to drop someone off, it turned out to be his aunty that was just coming from Nigeria, I didn't know that at the time; The uber driver came out, went to the boot(trunk) and offloaded her luggage, am like good afternoon ma, she just raised her voice and said carry all these in the house, na him I look her foolish mouth, I just lock up dey wait for my uber which was 2 mins to arrival. My guy comot outside, hail the woman, then carry the two luggage enter house, I no even look the foolish woman again. My guy cun dey say, you know how nigerians are, they think they can play boss with anyone dem meet wey be Nigerian. A very arrogant igbo woman.
Then, there is the issue of when i went to the restaurant in America, another group of igbo people were having some kind of meeting, the ghanian server has served them well with all their arrogant demand like bringing bowl for them to wash hand, when it was written on many places there that, the sink is open for anyone trying to wash their hands; and those people were very close to the sink, like 3 steps to the sink on that lane. After they finished, no tip, no thank you, no anything. A very wicked set of wicked igbos that day. I had to give the guy some money on their behalf because I was ashamed of their arrogance and stupidity.
Even all these househelp wickedness is mostly us.
We igbos need to gain traction on multi front positivity soon, and rekindle the igbo spirit of humility, knowledge, and grit. Interesting. |

tasalanoni: When people say that tech is the future, it proves that they do not properly understand what tech entails. Downturns in the fortunes of many tech companies have proven that the tech space isn't insulated from the economic strain of the present time. Who would have ever imagined Facebook downsizing?.
Now, fact is that tech never invented anything. Before modern tech(ICT) began, markets had been around, hospitals were already there, farming had already gone past subsistence levels to highly mechanized operations, manufacturing at every level was already active and even exploding, financial institutions were already well developed ,etc... What tech essentially brought was a way to make exchanges between goods and services easier and faster in a world that was increasingly globalizing..
The beauty of tech is in its ubiquity. There's just no area of modern life that tech doesn't find application, just nothing!! The mistake is in looking at tech as an isolated field that is independent of all other systems and that has led to the wide misconception that it is the "future". No system depends on tech rather tech depends on traditional systems. The noise will soon die out when people start to realize that anyone can play in the field. A farmer is in a better position to design softwares or apps that can used to determine how crops respond to agro inputs. So is a medical doctor who understands the clinical space better able to design and use programs that would be relevant in healthcare. You also cannot imagine someone who lacks real world sales experience to create apps that'd be deployed in an ecommerce environment.... The financial promises can be very misleading.. Nicely put! Tech is just meant to minimize the inefficiencies that exist in the bricks-and-mortar or Old Economy space. The fundamentals of the Old Economy still have to be adhered to in the New Economy! |
