femionasan:

Thanks Doyen but after the replacement of the sensor i still had the same issue but the sensor didnt come up as the culprit. The thing i noticed about the speed sensor was that whenever i traveled out of state after a long drive the gear shifts back to 3 from 4 and does not go back to 4 until i have parked the car for about 30minutes to an hour and then it starts to shift smoothly dont forget that the shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear is still a problem. I guess i will take it to another place for proper scanning i am not doing anything until i am convinced about where the issue is coming from.

I too own a 5th gen maxima, and seldom trust mechanics with my car without giving them a heads-up first. Your car can do a self diagnostic on the transmission and point you in the correct direction. Post your email address so that I can email you a copy of the maxima FSM for automatic transmissions.

@costee, you might be right. age is certainly a factor
but a ride in a 97 maxima was more comfortable that is why i am now worried
the car had a very low mileage when i bought it
however i discovered later that rust had nearly wiped out its underbelly
i have had to frequent panel beaters and welders since
@nissparts, i live in benin, so it would be difficult to have u see the car
used belgium shocks twice
then 'high grade' new ones as i was advised next
nissparts what do you advise i change now
car drives well now, except for the occasional hard starting
and the interior is still very clean
i love the maximas handling on smooth roads

Call me on 08052036848 lets compare notes. I also live in Benin and own a 5th gen maxima. I had hard starting issues which I sorted out, and also have slight suspension problems (stabilizer linkages). Its very useful to have a copy of the FSM for ur model when trying to solve problems in ur max.

You don't have access to all the information so you can't make any judgement.

Did you notice a provision of N4.8bn for advisers et al?
Phones / Re: Whats the difference between Blackberry Bold 2 And Bold 3 by ambyzown(m): 9:10pm On Dec 08, 2011
The Bold 9650 is the CDMA version of the Bold 9700 built for the US market, just as the Storm 9530 is the CDMA version of the Storm 9500. Ditto with the Touch 9900 and 9930. The Bold 9700 (AKA Bold 2) is essentially identical to the 9650 (Bold 3) except for the internal memory.

yeah also use it too but very low patronage here. . . .i only have 4 buddies compared to whatsapp where most pple on my sim contacts have a whatsapp account undecided sad

Don't go blaming an app simply because it didn't work properly on ur device. I use whatsapp on my Samsung device and its working perfectly. I would suggest u ask for help getting it to work properly on ur device. What device are u using?
I also use Y! messenger on my android device, but prefer whatsapp because it lets me know if the recipient has read my IM or not. Also, its data footprint is very low.
I recommend whatspp to all android users.

Car Talk / Re: What's The Fastest Speed You've Experienced In A Car? by ambyzown(m): 11:24am On Nov 10, 2011
Ikenna351:

@ ambyzown,

Yes, performance cars, they might be too. But does that stop the 505 V6 from being one too? Was it because it a late '90s production?

Ikenna.

Late 90's shocked shocked  Am I mistaken, or was the Peugeot 505 V6 a 1986 production model?
When it rolled out of the production line 25yrs it had 170bhp, 0-60 in 9.3secs and top speed of 195kph. That's not performance car stats. Are you telling me that after 25yrs of abuse and Tokunbo parts you believe you can still get more than 120 horses out of that engine? Evidently you haven't had much driver time in cars other than your 505.
Anyway you're yet to tell us the fastest you've ever been in it.

@Siena: I agree those should be classified as super cars. But I fear we will soon run out of names to classify cars like the Ferraris and Koenigsegg.
Car Talk / Re: What's The Fastest Speed You've Experienced In A Car? by ambyzown(m): 12:20am On Nov 10, 2011
@Ikenna: Strange as it may seem, I totally agree with the first paragraph pf your last post. What I find hard to phantom is your continued reference to your Peugeot 505 as a "Performance Car" Are you kidding me? So what would you call a BMW M5 or an Audi R8 or a Nissan GTR?
Car Talk / Re: What's The Fastest Speed You've Experienced In A Car? by ambyzown(m): 10:23pm On Nov 09, 2011
I see there are a lot more speed demons in Nigeria than I thought. I enjoy the thrill of speed, but always put common sense into use when driving. The road from benin to Asaba is very good, so occasionally, I let loose. My fastest has been 220kph in my 2001 Nissan Maxima SE on a straight stretch of tarmac between Abudu and Benin when heading towards Benin. I know when to slow down, and keep my cars in good shape. I don't play with my suspension or tires either. Car racing is fun, but its unfortunate we don't have proving grounds or tracks here in Nigeria. What's the essence of buying powerful cars when you can't drive them faster than 120kmph?
Autos / Re: Please Advise [converting Manual Transmission To Auto Trans.] by ambyzown(m): 12:29am On Oct 02, 2011
Its possible to convert, but I don't believe there are any qualified mechanics to do it properly here in Nigeria. The cost of such a swap will also be very high, making it a very uneconomical decision.
Autos / Re: 2003 Nissan Maxima For N1.850m by ambyzown(m): 12:01am On Oct 02, 2011
OP you just downgraded your car. This is most likely a 2004 model or newer. Check the frame near the driver side door to see the model description.

Autos / Re: I Need Help On Nissan Maxima Gle, 3.0l V6, 2000 Model by ambyzown(m): 11:45pm On Oct 01, 2011
I do not believe the problem stated is from the brain box. The first thing you need to do is to run a scan using a diagnostic tool to find out what codes the on board engine management system is throwing. Only when you get those codes can you know what exactly is causing the problem. You can also swap the ignition coils for the cylinders that work with those that don't work to see if the coils are ok.
The spares for the maxima are readily available and the prices reasonable.
The biggest problem of Nissan Maximas in this country is the lack of competent mechanics. Its a pretty decent car to use if u understand it. I currently use a 2001 model and have used four maximas from 2nd generation to 5th generation. My next car is surely going to be a Maxima.
Wish u luck in finding a solution.
Car Talk / Re: Air Bag Accident - Help by ambyzown(m): 3:47pm On Sep 01, 2011
I have a 2001 nissan maxima that started flashing the Airbag lights after I steam washed my engine. I performed SRS diagnosis using the car's in built diagnostic system and it points to a malfunctioning crash zone sensor. Problem is I can't find one to buy. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? Thanks in anticipation.

benzion72:

@ Ajanlekoko there is a solution Buy your Nokia there is a software called Blackberry connect that you can use called Blackberry conect http://us.blackberry.com/ataglance/connect/

The Blackberry connect software has been available on the symbian platform since 2007 or earlier. It even came pre-installed on my SonyEricsson P1i running Symbian UIQ3. It only allows you access to push email, and does not support blackberry messenger.
The main allure of blackberry these days is the messaging feature, if a phone can't "PING" its useless to bb fans.
Phones / Re: Is A Blackberry Better? by ambyzown(m): 6:05pm On Aug 22, 2011
@Akainzo: I guess I was wrong about some of my assertions of the bb os.
Yes the recently announced Torch 9810 supports 4g
Yes it also supports HD video recording (@720p which SE achieved three years ago on their mid range Vivaz phone)
Yes it does Skype (but how do u make video calls without a forward facing camera?)
However I couldn't find any application that's does automobile fault scanning on the bb platform.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate bbs but simply prefer Android becos of the open source platform. I'm currently overclocking my 1ghz processor at 1.3ghz which makes my ageing Samsung GT already faster than the yet to released bold touch.
Blackberries are built with quality in mind, so they are good, but so are samsungs and htc.
Bottom line, its all about individual preferences. For now I'm sold on Android, having used the following.
Blackberry Storm (BBOS)
Nokia N97mini (Symbian)
SonyEricsson Xperia X1 (Winmo 6.1)
iphone 3gs (IOS)
Samsung GT P1000 (Android 2.3)
Phones / Re: Is A Blackberry Better? by ambyzown(m): 12:56am On Aug 22, 2011
[quote author=Akainzo

And Blackberry has 4g phones in the market already, you can check their website to confirm.

The OS is definitely not outdated, except you can tell me one thing that an iphome or an Android device can do that the Torch 9800 running BBOS 6 cannot do.

Blackberry has a 4g phone out in the market Pls do tell, what is the model number? FYI the playbook is not a phone, its a tablet. You can't even do BBM on it without a proper BB phone.

Things ur precious bb cannot do.
HD video recording or video out reproduction.
Skype video calls
Can you use your bb as an OBD II scanner to diagnose faults in your car? My Samsung GT P1000 can.
I don't believe you have the luxury or liberty to install alternative browsers for ur bb (I may be wrong here. Not too sure)

RIM is playing catch up with Android and IOS but they never will be able to. The yet to be released bb torch and bold touches though sporting a 1.2ghz qualcom processor is still single core compared to some android phones out there that already sport dual core processors. You can't possibly do HD 3D video playback smoothly on anything less than dual core.
Phones / Re: Is A Blackberry Better? by ambyzown(m): 10:45pm On Aug 21, 2011
@all4naija: Finally one mature and informed response from a bb fan. Undeniably, blackberry was created for the business-centric mobile subscriber who wanted secure access to his company's server. So tell me why Nigerians believe it is the best thing that ever happened to yahoo mail. Bb was designed as a messaging device several decades ago. Its OS is currently outdated when compared to its competitors. You mentioned 4g being the next logical step. Samsung already has 4g phones out in the market, but no current bb os supports 4g. That's why I say bb is a sinking ship.
Lest we get carried away, the OP asked for a non business phone, which essentially knocks the bb out.
Phones / Re: Is A Blackberry Better? by ambyzown(m): 9:42pm On Aug 21, 2011
You may also want to consider the Android running SonyEricsson Xperia Arc. A stunning example of a solidly built smartphone.
For those of you die-hard blackberry fans who refuse to believe that the Blackberry OS is a sinking ship, are you aware that RIM is currently developing a BBM for Android and IOS platforms?
Phones / Re: Is A Blackberry Better? by ambyzown(m): 9:07pm On Aug 21, 2011
You have to be specific when you say you want to buy a Samsung phone. As far as I know, Android running Samsung phones beat their comparative Blackberry devices. The only thing keeping Blackberry selling is its Messaging feature (BBM). Even the Apple iPhone trounces the Blackberry flagship device, and we all know that the Samsung Galaxy S II is the worlds best selling smartphone as at today. The decision is yours, but I believe BB is on its way to the grave.
