ISAGA COMMUNITY: HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS, LAWYERS COMMEND SUCCESSFUL EXECUTION OF LONG-AWAITED COURT JUDGMENT AFTER 23 YEARS

Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

In a significant development for the Isaga community in the Owode Yewa area of Ogun State, human rights activists and legal experts have expressed their satisfaction with the peaceful and successful execution of a court possession order that has been pending for over two decades. The execution, which took place recently, has been hailed as a triumph of the rule of law in Nigeria.

James Olasina, the Coordinator of the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice, alongside eminent lawyer Babatunde Shaji, commended the police and other security agencies for their effective role in carrying out the court order. Their praise follows a lengthy legal battle involving a land dispute that has seen numerous court appearances and judgments over the past 23 years.

The recent execution pertains to a Possession Order from the Ogun State High Court, stemming from a ruling by Honourable Justice AA Shobayo in the case of Alhaji Atobatele and nine others against Mukaila Oguntade, Sheriff of the High Court of Justice, Deputy Sheriff of the High Court of Justice, Ilaro, and the Commissioner of Justice, Ogun State (Suit No M/01/2024). Alhaji Ajibade and other claimants had challenged an earlier ruling affirming Mukaila Oguntade as the rightful owner of a substantial parcel of land within the Isaga community.

This prolonged dispute dates back to a 2011 High Court decision by Justice O Onafowokan, which recognized Bashiru Oguntade, the late father of Mukaila Oguntade, as the legitimate owner of the contested land. Although the ruling was upheld by the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal, the rightful owners faced significant obstacles in executing their possession order, as individuals opposed to the judgment resorted to violence and legal maneuvering to remain on the land.

Olasina expressed his appreciation for the police's action in enforcing the court order after years of delays and defiance from those resisting the judgment. "In the past, some individuals had prevented the execution of the Possession Taken Order from the competent court, and the police refrained from taking action against them for contempt of court," he stated. "It is commendable that the police have now intervened to protect the rights of the judgment creditors."

Babatunde Shaji also emphasized the importance of the rule of law, highlighting the responsibilities of the police in upholding court orders. He noted, "After the latest judgment, certain third parties attempted to challenge the ruling in the High Court, seeking to set it aside, but their requests were denied. Consequently, the claimants proceeded with executing the order."

Despite the court's clear ruling, Shaji pointed out that some occupants of the land were reluctant to vacate, defying the legal mandate. He reiterated that adherence to court orders is mandatory and that the state has the authority to enforce such mandates through law enforcement. "When a competent court issues an order, it is binding. Those who disobey it risk facing the consequences enforced by state authorities," he warned.

Both Olasina and Shaji called for ongoing protection of the rule of law and encouraged the residents and defendants to seek amicable solutions through negotiation with the claimants, suggesting that compromise may be possible if all parties are willing to engage constructively.

This recent execution of a court order marks a critical step toward reinforcing legal integrity in Ogun State and could serve as a precedent for addressing similar long-standing disputes in Nigeria. The collaborative efforts of human rights activists, legal practitioners, and law enforcement highlight a commitment to ensuring justice and protecting citizens' rights in the face of protracted legal battles.

Stay Updated with Future Job Requirements — Tijani Olumide Charges Students

A call has been made to students of higher learning to keep themselves up to date with future changing job requirements.

Dr. Olumide Tijani made this call in a speech delivered at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro Students' Union Government Annual Symposium and Debate Competition, organized to commemorate the 2025 SUG Week of the school. This year’s event, with the theme “Career Resilience: Navigating the Future of Work,” was held at the Raheem Oloyo Conference Hall.

As a guest speaker at the event, discussing the topic “Strategies for Acquiring New Skills and Adapting to Changing Job Requirements,” Dr. Tijani, represented by his Chief of Staff, Comrade Kamorudeen Adegbokiki, submitted that waiting to acquire new skills after graduation is no longer a smart option, but rather a decision to be taken now.

The guest speaker, Dr. Olumide Tijani, who is also the Chief Executive of Nova Care Staffing and Recruitment Ltd., Sheffield, UK, urged that “as technologies evolve, so should the young learners. Make learning a lifelong habit by focusing on adapting to changing job requirements, build a skills portfolio, seek internships and apprenticeships.”

The high point of the event was the presentation of a laptop to Okwuchi Joy, the overall winner of the debate competition on the topic: “Is Career Resilience More Important Than Relying on Innate Talent for Career Success?” A cash gift of ₦50,000 was also awarded to the second-place winner, while other participants received cash prizes in the name of Dr. Olumide Tijani.

The leadership of the students thereafter presented an Honorary Award to Dr. Tijani in appreciation of his dedication to sharing his expertise and passion in support of student learning and development.

The event has in attendance the Students' Union Executives led by the President and Honourable members of the students Representatives Council led by the Rt. Hon Elizabeth Bamgboye, Faculty Presidents amongst other student leaders.

PoliticsEnergy Watchdog Hails Nuprc’s N12.25tn Revenue Performance, Credits Komolafe’s R by AmeboFeeds(op): 5:58pm On Jul 09, 2025
Energy watchdog hails NUPRC’s N12.25tn revenue performance, credits Komolafe’s reforms

The Energy Governance Alliance (EGA) has commended the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) for generating a record N12.25 trillion in revenue in 2024, describing it as a testament to the commission’s regulatory reforms and strategic leadership under Chief Executive, Gbenga Komolafe.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Executive Director, Dr Kelvin Sotonye William, the alliance said the revenue achievement marked a watershed moment in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, affirming NUPRC’s central role in repositioning the upstream industry for value creation, fiscal accountability and national development.

The figure, disclosed in the commission’s newly released 2024 Annual Report, represents a 182.25 percent increase from the N4.34 trillion generated in 2023. It also significantly surpassed the 2024 forecast revenue of N6.93 trillion by over N5 trillion.

“The Energy Governance Alliance welcomes the stellar performance of the NUPRC, under the visionary stewardship of Mr Gbenga Komolafe, for generating over N12 trillion in 2024 — the highest ever recorded in a single year in Nigeria’s upstream sector,” the statement reads.

“This performance is not accidental. It reflects sustained policy clarity, increased compliance, and a bold enforcement posture on critical issues such as royalty payments, gas flare penalties and lease renewals. These are the very foundations of energy justice, and we applaud the Commission for restoring regulatory credibility in a sector long plagued by opacity and inefficiency.”

EGA said the unprecedented revenue inflow has “revalidated the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 as a working framework for revenue optimisation, investor discipline and upstream transparency”, adding that the Komolafe-led NUPRC had broken new ground in actualising the fiscal and institutional aspirations of the landmark law.

According to the commission’s breakdown, oil and gas royalties alone accounted for N11.08 trillion in 2024 — nearly twice the projected figure — while gas flared penalties brought in N391.26 billion, and concession rentals fetched N23.71 billion. Other key revenue lines included N369.57 billion from signature bonuses, N230.73 billion from lease renewals, N35.19 billion in miscellaneous income, and N117.02 billion from goods and valuable consideration.

Reacting to the figures, Dr William said the scale and spread of the revenue performance demonstrated a “whole-of-sector approach” that has closed long-standing loopholes and challenged entrenched rent-seeking behaviour.

“For the first time in recent memory, we are seeing a regulator extract value from multiple pressure points across the upstream system — from flare penalties to lease administration. This is what it means to govern oil in the public interest,” he said.

EGA urged other agencies in the oil and gas ecosystem to emulate NUPRC’s results-oriented culture, noting that the commission’s transparency in publishing unreconciled production volumes, average daily outputs, and compliance with the technical allowable rate (TAR) regime was “a welcome deviation from the era of secrecy”.

The report had revealed that total crude production in 2024 stood at 578.5 million barrels — comprising 482.8 million barrels of oil and 95.7 million barrels of condensate — with a daily average output of 1.58 million barrels per day. Joint ventures contributed 48 percent of the production, followed by production sharing contracts at 35 percent, sole risk operations at 13 percent, and marginal fields at 4 percent.

The alliance also welcomed NUPRC’s disclosures on the TAR, which stood at 67 percent in 2024, and urged further collaboration with industry players to raise efficiency levels.

“This is not just about revenue. It’s also about regulatory honesty. By publishing unreconciled volumes and clarifying that they are not to be mistaken for export figures, NUPRC has sent a strong message that it is no longer business as usual. This level of transparency is key to improving investor confidence and public trust,” William said.

EGA said it was particularly impressed with the commission’s performance in gas flare penalties and lease renewals, which surpassed their 2024 projections by over 200 percent, indicating renewed rigour in enforcement.

It noted that N391 billion was realised from gas flaring penalties, compared to a projected N126 billion, while lease renewals brought in N230.73 billion, almost three times the forecasted N80.63 billion.

“Gas flaring is an ecological crime and an economic waste. The fact that penalties have become a major revenue item shows the Commission’s zero-tolerance stance. We expect this to further push operators towards cleaner and more responsible energy production,” the alliance added.

The alliance urged the Federal Government to channel a significant portion of the NUPRC’s revenue surplus into supporting host communities, funding clean energy transitions and closing infrastructure gaps in the Niger Delta.

“Komolafe’s performance shows that Nigeria’s oil sector can deliver both revenue and reform — if we prioritise competence, clarity and courage. The Energy Governance Alliance urges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to continue backing such reforms and ensure that the NUPRC remains insulated from political interference,” the statement concluded.

PoliticsMalami Cannot Wash Off His Legacy Of Impunity With ADC Defection — Citizens Alli by AmeboFeeds(op): 10:13am On Jul 07, 2025
Malami Cannot Wash Off His Legacy of Impunity with ADC Defection — Citizens Alliance

A civic watchdog group, the Citizens Alliance for Rule of Law and Justice (CARoLJ), has condemned former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), over his recent criticism of the Bola Tinubu administration, describing his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as an act of “political desperation dressed in borrowed morality”.

In a statement issued in Kaduna on Sunday and signed by the group’s president, Aminu Jallo, CARoLJ said Malami’s remarks accusing the current government of neglecting security and plunging Nigerians into poverty are not only ironic but deeply insulting to the intelligence of Nigerians who lived through “his era of constitutional vandalism and legal impunity”.

“Abubakar Malami presided over one of the darkest periods in Nigeria’s legal history. To hear him now speak of justice, equity, and national renewal is to witness a man attempting to whitewash a legacy drenched in disobedience of court orders, protection of corrupt political elites, and flagrant misuse of the instruments of state power,” Jallo said.

Malami, who served as Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023, formally announced his defection to the ADC on Wednesday, stating that the party offers a coalition to “rescue Nigeria from collapse”. He decried insecurity and economic hardship, particularly in northern Nigeria, and accused the APC-led government of prioritising propaganda over governance.

But CARoLJ said Malami’s sudden concern for national suffering was “both cynical and dishonest,” pointing to a long record of policy failures, compromised prosecutions, and judicial sabotage while he was in office. The group questioned Malami’s moral standing to speak about national decline, given what it described as his direct role in dismantling the very institutions Nigerians now struggle to rebuild.

“Under Malami, the Federal Ministry of Justice became a political safe haven for the corrupt and a weapon against the vulnerable. He consistently ignored valid court rulings, frustrated landmark anti-corruption trials, and presided over a justice system that increasingly served the powerful at the expense of the people,” Jallo said.

The group cited the controversial 2017 reinstatement of Abdulrasheed Maina, the former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, as one of several cases where Malami allegedly enabled impunity. Despite being on trial for massive pension fraud, Maina was smuggled back into the civil service, reportedly with Malami’s knowledge and backing.

“Malami owes Nigerians an explanation for how a fugitive facing corruption charges was not only reinstated but promoted. That scandal alone should permanently disqualify him from any public office,” Jallo said.

CARoLJ also condemned the role Malami played in the 2022 presidential pardon granted to two convicted ex-governors — Joshua Dariye of Plateau State and Jolly Nyame of Taraba State — who were both jailed for stealing public funds. The controversial pardon was processed through Malami’s ministry and widely condemned by civil society groups.

“While honest Nigerians were imprisoned for petty theft, Malami helped secure clemency for men convicted of looting billions. He cannot now pretend to be a champion of the poor,” Jallo stated.

Beyond high-level corruption, the group alleged that Malami allowed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to become a political tool, selectively targeting opponents of the government while shielding allies and loyalists.

Under his supervision, the commission was, according to CARoLJ, “reduced to a shadow of itself — compromised, erratic, and often weaponised for vendettas”.

The group pointed to the irony of Malami’s selective justice, noting that while his ministry turned a blind eye to dubious transactions involving his allies and family, it aggressively pursued whistleblowers and activists.

“It was during Malami’s tenure that the EFCC lost its moral compass. Investigations were stalled, evidence disappeared, and known associates of the former minister were immune from scrutiny,” Jallo said.

“Malami failed to act on reports indicting senior government figures — and yet, he never hesitated to file charges against voices critical of his actions. He made a mockery of justice.”

CARoLJ further criticised the asset recovery regime under Malami’s watch, describing it as a “spectacle without substance” and alleging that billions in recovered funds were either mismanaged or mysteriously unaccounted for.

“The so-called asset recovery framework championed by Malami was a farce. Nigerians were shown figures but never the trail. There was no transparency. The process became an avenue for self-enrichment and patronage. His office operated more like a political vault than a justice ministry,” Jallo alleged.

According to the group, public suspicion around Malami’s stewardship of recovered assets only deepened when reports surfaced suggesting a sudden accumulation of unexplained wealth among his close associates — including members of his immediate family.

The group described as “morally offensive” the public displays of opulence by members of Malami’s family while the country grappled with deepening poverty.

“It is not lost on Nigerians that during Malami’s time in office, his children lived lavishly, displaying wealth that bore no proportion to any legitimate income. From luxury cars to extravagant weddings, the evidence was not just visible — it was flaunted,” Jallo said.

“One of Malami’s sons reportedly owns a multi-billion-naira event centre in Kebbi. At the height of public anger over poverty and inflation, the family flew in private jets for wedding ceremonies and flaunted exotic vehicles in Abuja. These are not just optics — they are symbols of unchecked abuse of office and unexplained wealth.

“One cannot preach reform while living off the ruins of abuse. Malami’s household became a symbol of reckless entitlement. His defection to ADC is not about rescuing Nigeria — it is about rescuing his ambitions.”

CARoLJ also recalled that several major corruption cases were either inexplicably withdrawn or bungled under Malami’s leadership, including the high-profile case involving former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and the controversial handling of oil contracts involving foreign interests, which led to legal defeats and settlements that cost Nigeria billions.

“Several landmark corruption cases collapsed under Malami’s watch — not for lack of evidence, but because of compromised prosecution and political interference. It was under Malami’s supervision that the government suffered repeated legal setbacks abroad, including in the P&ID arbitration case. His poor legal strategy and politicisation of sensitive files cost this country dearly,” Jallo said.

The group described Malami’s defection to the ADC as “a soft launch of his long-suspected ambition to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State,” and warned voters not to fall for what it called his “reinvention strategy”.

“Abubakar Malami’s defection to the ADC is not a patriotic move — it’s a calculated rebranding effort by a man desperate to escape the shadow of his own legacy. Nigerians must not be deceived. You cannot preside over years of constitutional sabotage, ignore court orders, protect looters, and then suddenly claim to be the face of national rescue. Malami is not joining the ADC to save Nigeria — he’s joining to save himself,” Jallo said.

Reacting directly to Malami’s call for Nigerians to “reclaim the nation” through the ADC, CARoLJ dismissed it as hypocritical.

“The Nigeria Malami claims to be rescuing is the same Nigeria he helped bleed for nearly a decade. He now talks about banditry and hardship in the North — but was silent when communities were razed in Zamfara, Kebbi, and Borno under Buhari, while he remained fixated on political consolidation,” Jallo noted.

“To the people of Kebbi: Malami heard your cries during years of banditry and silence was his only response. He cannot now claim to be your liberator.

“Nigerians must resist the ongoing attempt by disgraced political actors to hide behind new parties and forgotten slogans. True reform begins with accountability — not defection.”

Rt. Hon. Bichi And His Badge of Honour

By Philip Agbese

The seeds of greatness are often sown in the fertile soil of community, nurtured by the collective efforts of individuals who dare to dream big. For Rt. Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, it was always about the people. Their stories, struggles, and triumphs have guided his journey as a leader, inspiring him to build bridges, empower lives, and create opportunities that have transformed the landscape of Bichi Federal Constituency and beyond.

Recently, his commitment to public service and education was recognised with an honorary degree from the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, another proof of his outstanding contributions to the development of education in his constituency and beyond. This achievement is a fitting tribute to a leader who has dedicated his life to the service of others.

On a crisp October 2, 1981, a future leader was born in the ancient town of Bichi, Kano State. Rt. Years later, the call to serve his people became too loud to ignore. In 2019, Rt. Hon. Bichi heeded the call, stepping into the Federal House of Representatives as the voice of Bichi Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC). His constituents' trust in him was evident when they re-elected him in 2023, eager for him to continue his impactful work.

As Bichi's reputation as a leader grew, so did his influence. He became a respected voice, known for building bridges and fostering meaningful relationships. Whether in the halls of power or in the communities he served, he invested in people, forging genuine friendships and alliances that would last a lifetime. His commitment to public service was matched only by his compassion for those he represented. As Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Rt. Hon. Bichi rolled up his sleeves and got to work, using his diplomatic finesse to bring critical infrastructure projects to life.

The Lagos-Badagry Road, Abuja-Kano Road, and Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria Road took shape under his watchful eye, connecting cities and towns, and opening up new opportunities for trade and commerce. But Bichi's legacy wasn't just about roads and rails – it was about people. He showed up for his constituents, listening to their struggles and responding with empathy and generosity. His commitment to addressing the needs of his people has been unwavering, and his impact is felt across the nation.

Recognising the challenges of the modern world and the importance of education, Rt. Hon. Bichi took bold steps to secure the future of his constituents. He invested in the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, constructing two faculties, two halls of residence, and lecture halls, creating a conducive learning environment for students. His commitment to education went beyond infrastructure development. He personally contributed N16,874,996.55 to support over 1,000 indigent students, covering their tuition fees for the 2019/2020 academic year.

He also provided scholarships to 21 constituents to study at the prestigious Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and sponsored 59 science and technical students with educational kits. To address the shortage of teachers, Rt. Hon. Bichi recruited 150 temporary teachers and 50 Islamiyah teachers, ensuring that students across the constituency had access to quality education. These efforts paid off, increasing school enrollment, reducing dropouts, and developing human capital in his constituency.

Rt. Hon. Bichi's leadership is a breath of fresh air, inspiring countless young minds and captivating the hearts of his people. Dr. Bichi's name is etched in the annals of academic excellence, his honorary degree a badge of honour that reflects his unwavering commitment to the development of his people and the nation at large.

Yet, the journey is far from over. With a heart still committed to the people and a spirit that remains unrelenting, Rt. Hon. Bichi continues to push boundaries, break new ground, and inspire others to join him in shaping a brighter future for Nigeria. The best, it seems, is yet to come.

"Student Wins Car as Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd Doles Out 5 Cars, iPhones, and More to Realtors at Mid-Year Feast"

The Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd, Architect Chibuikem Emmanuel Onyekachi, has assured realtors and customers of the company's drive to render services that deliver the needed satisfaction.

Architect Onyekachi made this known on Saturday during the Mid-Year Realtors’ Feast, a semi-annual event organised by his company as a way of motivating and encouraging the hardworking ones; an event that was held at the International Conference Centre, Independence Layout, Enugu, which also recorded the attendance of over 1,000 realtors.

Addressing the participants, Architect Onyekachi stated that the company’s vision is to remain at the forefront of innovative real estate development, where professionalism, honesty, and consistency in business dealings with clients remain their priority.

He also stated that the event, which comes twice a year, is an approach adopted by the company to empower her partners and staff who are hardworking and willing to help the company to thrive through the sale of their properties across the country.

According to him:
“We started this journey with a clear sense of purpose — to transform the housing experience for both the sellers and the buyers. What we’re building isn’t just property; we’re nurturing trust, creating opportunities, and opening doors to a better future. Our belief is that when people are empowered through access to decent shelter, they become more confident and productive. That’s the kind of difference Powell Homes wants to make — one home at a time.”

“Realtors' Feast, which happens twice a year, is an avenue where we gift items to our reliable and hardworking realtors, staff, and partners. It is a reward mechanism and a platform for bonding and exchange of progressive ideas. Today, we are distributing 5 brand-new cars as well as other items such as iPhones, TV sets, refrigerators, and other home appliances to our active realtors, staff, and partners. We even go all out to say ‘thank you’ to those who believe in our dream and make it their own.
This year’s turnout of over 1,000 active real estate partners, who are mostly young persons, shows that many young Nigerians are committed to solving housing problems with integrity and sincerity, and we are proud to walk that journey with them.”

Also speaking, Veteran Nollywood actress and brand ambassador of Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd, Mrs. Patience Ozokwo, popularly known as Mama G, praised the company for making housing a realistic dream for many young Nigerians.

She stated that the company has provided an opportunity for realtors and other real estate practitioners to take pride in the value they are offering society, while also praising their top-notch customer care services.

She also applauded Architect Onyekachi for his commitment to providing trustworthy services for customers, adding that he has distinguished himself amongst others in the real estate sector.

“Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd is not just another real estate company. There’s a human face to everything they do, and that’s what makes them stand out. I’ve worked with different brands over the years, but this one speaks to my heart. They reward people who work hard, they don’t wait for perfection. They value the effort, the journey, and the people behind every sale and every client story. This is the type of service that we want. The motivation calls for more work and I am proud to associate with them.”

However, one of the high points of the event was the presentation of prizes to outstanding realtors, among whom is Mr. Anikworji Chukwuemeka Joel, a 600-level student of Dentistry and Surgery at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who went home with a brand-new car.

Addressing the press, Mr. Joel expressed surprise and joy, calling the reward a motivation to do more in the real estate space.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed the arrest and questioning of the Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. Muibi Folawiyo, over allegations of financial impropriety.

ICPC spokesperson, Dr. Demola Bakare, told journalists that Mr. Folawiyo is being investigated for alleged diversion of public funds and non-compliance with due process.

“He was arrested at the council secretariat on 42 Broad Street, Lagos, after repeatedly ignoring invitations which he had acknowledged,” Bakare said.

UNIPGC and IOED Forge Historic Agreement to Strengthen International Presence

Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

In a landmark development in international diplomacy, the United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) has signed a comprehensive bilateral inter-institutional cooperation agreement with the International Organization for Economic Development (IOED). This agreement comes as His Excellency, Ambassador Jonathan Ojadah, takes on the dual role of IOED Special Envoy to the African Union (AU).

The signing of this agreement marks a significant step forward for UNIPGC, distinguishing it as a prominent player in international relations by granting it enhanced legal status and extraterritorial jurisdiction. As a result, UNIPGC is now recognized under public international law, thus attaining international legal personality.

This newfound status enables UNIPGC to enter into headquarters agreements with various sovereign states, in line with established international diplomatic conventions. Moreover, UNIPGC's collaboration with IOED grants it the capacity to alert nations that have existing diplomatic agreements with IOED about this significant progression, paving the way for the establishment of official diplomatic missions within these countries. These missions will afford UNIPGC essential immunities and privileges traditionally associated with international diplomatic entities.

The IOED itself boasts a unique diplomatic status, endowed with full diplomatic immunities and privileges, thanks to its extraterritorial rights. Its comprehensive legal personality empowers it with both active and passive legation rights, solidifying its position on the global stage.

Furthermore, as part of its operational mandate, the IOED is developing essential systems for producing official diplomatic and national documents. This includes the issuance of diplomatic passports, biometric national identity cards, secure police credentials, and various sensitive documents aimed at enhancing the security of states and institutions. This capability is crucial for safeguarding populations and ensuring robust governance.

With this agreement, UNIPGC not only enhances its diplomatic clout but also aligns itself with IOED’s mission, which fulfills its 34th directive as entrusted by the United Nations. This partnership signifies a broader commitment to economic development and peacekeeping initiatives across Africa and beyond.

In the coming weeks, further details about the implications of this agreement and its prospective benefits for international cooperation will be unveiled. Analysts predict that this collaboration could lead to increased stability and development in regions where UNIPGC is actively engaged.

Ambassador Ojadah expressed optimism about the potential of this cooperation, remarking, "This agreement is a monumental step toward cementing UNIPGC's role as a visionary leader in international diplomacy. Together with IOED, we are poised to make significant strides in fostering global peace and economic growth."

The UNIPGC-IOED agreement promises to reshape the landscape of international cooperation, providing a framework for enhanced diplomatic engagement that could have far-reaching implications for global governance in the years to come.

Exclusive: How APC Plans to Take Over Plateau Assembly, Destabilize Governance, and Impeach Governor Mutfwang

In what appears to be a desperate political maneuver, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has allegedly launched a covert strategy aimed at frustrating the administration of Executive Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, with the ultimate goal of removing him from office by the end of 2025.

This was revealed by a source reportedly close to the leadership of the APC in the state. The source, who asked to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the information, disclosed that the plan involves using certain members of the Plateau State House of Assembly to create legislative instability. These lawmakers, who recently reclaimed their mandates through the appeal court, are said to be financially strained due to legal expenses incurred during their court battles.

According to the insider, the APC intends to exploit this vulnerability by pressuring the lawmakers into cooperating with the party’s agenda. It is alleged that the APC will threaten or blackmail these legislators into initiating the removal of the current Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Dewan Kudangbena Gabriel, a key ally of Governor Mutfwang. The removal of the Speaker, the source explained, is intended to weaken the governor’s influence within the House, paralyze legislative proceedings, and pave the way for impeachment processes.

The broader objective, the source claims, is to create enough chaos and dysfunction within the state’s legislative and executive arms to warrant a State of Emergency, similar to the political crisis recently witnessed in Rivers State. By doing so, the APC reportedly hopes to justify federal intervention, thereby forcing out the current administration and regaining control of Plateau State.

> “This is not just about politics. It is a calculated effort to destabilize Plateau State, undermine democracy, and seize power at any cost,” the source warned.

The informant further claimed that the APC has vowed to reclaim the state in the 2027 general elections by any means necessary, even if it means disrupting the hard-earned peace and stability the state has experienced under Governor Mutfwang's leadership.

As part of the broader plot, the source revealed that the recent invitation of the sacked lawmakers by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is no coincidence. Many of these individuals currently serve in key positions in Governor Mutfwang’s administration as Commissioners and Liaison Officers. The EFCC’s move is allegedly aimed at damaging their reputations, thereby eroding public trust in the Governor’s appointees, and eventually, in the Governor himself.

> “Once the people lose confidence in these appointees, they will naturally begin to question the credibility of the Governor who appointed them. It’s a psychological strategy to weaken public support,” the source stated.

In light of these revelations, the source issued a strong call to action to the people of Plateau State, urging them to remain vigilant and united regardless of political affiliations. The source stressed the importance of prioritizing peace, stability, and the collective progress of the state over partisan interests.

> “This is the time for Plateau people—across all political divides—to come together and defend the democracy we’ve built. If we allow selfish interests to tear us apart, the future of our state will be at stake,” the source concluded.

Group Raises Concern Over ‘Peace Meeting’ Between Zamfara, Katsina State Officials With Notorious Bandits

A civil society group, the Citizens for Equity and Justice Initiative (CEJI), has condemned the governors of Zamfara and Katsina states over a widely criticised peace meeting held with Ado Aleru, a notorious bandit leader long declared wanted by security forces.

The meeting, held Saturday in Bichi community, Danmusa LGA of Katsina, was attended by traditional rulers, local government officials, representatives of the Nigerian Army, and top officials from both states. In widely circulated video footage, Aleru — who has a N5 million bounty on his head — was seen addressing the gathering, urging for peaceful coexistence between Fulani herders and farming communities.

Aleru has been linked to countless acts of terror and bloodshed in the north-west, with human rights organisations accusing him of orchestrating mass killings, mass kidnappings, and the displacement of thousands. His reemergence, not in handcuffs but at the centre of state-sanctioned negotiations, has sparked outrage across the country.

CEJI, a non-partisan watchdog focused on justice and rule of law, said the presence of state officials and security personnel at a meeting where Aleru was not only welcomed but offered a platform to speak, was a complete betrayal of the Nigerian people and an affront to every citizen who has lost a loved one to bandit violence.

In a statement issued on Friday, Dr Abdulmumin Sarki, CEJI president, accused governors Dikko Radda of Katsina and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara of hypocrisy and political cowardice.

“These are the same governors who, while campaigning, condemned so-called peace deals with blood-stained warlords,” Sarki said.

“Now in power, they are doing precisely what they once derided — normalising criminals as stakeholders in the governance process, even as tens of thousands of citizens remain unaccounted for due to the very violence these men unleashed.”

The group referenced a 2023 report by Amnesty International which estimated that more than 10,000 Nigerians have been killed and tens of thousands more displaced in the past two years alone as a result of banditry and communal violence in the northwest. In that context, CEJI described the peace parley as a “moral collapse of governance”.

“You do not negotiate with terrorists in the open, not when the blood of their victims is still drying, not when they remain armed, wanted, and unrepentant. It is a dangerous precedent that delegitimises state authority and emboldens violent actors,” Sarki added.

Governor Lawal of Zamfara had, in August 2023, publicly ruled out dialogue with bandits, describing such moves as “a failed strategy that has only given criminals more time to regroup and rearm.”

Similarly, Governor Radda had dismissed earlier peace talks under his predecessor as “a misguided approach that rewarded impunity.”

CEJI said both governors must be held to account for clearly contradicting their own policy positions and exposing the public to more insecurity.

“The Nigerian state cannot simultaneously claim to be fighting insecurity while its chief executives are sharing stages with those they should be arresting. This is a contradiction that weakens the rule of law and puts lives at risk,” Sarki said.

The group called on the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to immediately investigate the circumstances under which Ado Aleru was allowed to surface freely and publicly despite his wanted status.

“It is unacceptable that a man declared wanted since 2020 was able to move around with such impunity, engage state actors, and issue statements without fear of arrest. The implication is that there may be state complicity in shielding these actors, which is a grievous national security breach,” the statement added.

The group also urged the National Human Rights Commission and international partners to investigate the meeting as a possible violation of Nigeria’s obligations under international law.

“Negotiating with known perpetrators of crimes against humanity, in full view of the security agencies and the public, without any form of justice or accountability, is a breach of international norms and values,” CEJI stated.

It called on the governors to issue public explanations for their roles in the meeting and to clarify whether their administrations now officially recognise violent non-state actors as peace partners.

“If the governors of Katsina and Zamfara can legitimise a fugitive bandit in the name of peace, what will stop every other violent group from demanding the same treatment?” Sarki asked.

“That meeting undermines the rule of law. It tells victims there is no justice. It tells future terrorists that with enough weapons and violence, they too can get invited to state dinners.

“We strongly condemn that so-called peace meeting and urge the security agencies to investigate that highly provocative gathering.”

Crude Price Surge: Importers, Depots Hike PMS to N940, Dangote Maintains at N825/L

The volatility of crude oil prices in the international market has had a negative impact on Nigeria’s downstream oil sector, with importers and depot operators raising petrol prices to between N905 and N940 per litre. In contrast, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has maintained its ex-depot price at N825 per litre.

According to data gathered, Rainoil increased its price to N920 from N850 per litre, while Fynefield and Mainland raised their ex-depot prices to N930 and N920, respectively, an increase of N50 and N10.

Additional pricing data showed Sigmund selling at N920 per litre, Matrix Warri at N910, and NIPCO rising sharply to N920 from N827 the previous week. Aiteo was reported selling petrol at N920 per litre.

Further increases were recorded as Swift Oil moved to N920, Emadeb and Wosbab to N910, and First Royal to N905. Pinnacle made the most significant adjustment, now selling at N940 per litre.

These price hikes follow sustained gains in global crude oil markets, with Brent crude trading at $75.63 and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) at $74.03 per barrel, amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Ago Egun, Abeokuta — The Ago Egun area of Abeokuta resonated with jubilation and vibrant cultural displays as the annual Gelede Festival commenced, coinciding with the Eid-Ul-Adha celebrations. Spanning seven days, the festival is a showcase of colorful masks, infectious music, and lively dance, with a specific focus on unity, cultural pride, and community bonding.

The festival kicked off with the initial day known as Gbagede Efe, which set the tone for a week of festivities. The atmosphere was electrified by the presence of celebrated musicians who entertained guests, while onlookers danced, sang, and embraced the joyful spirit of the occasion. Children from the neighborhood participated enthusiastically, joining in the singing and dancing alongside the Gelede performers, embodying the festival's spirit of inclusivity and camaraderie.

At a recent interview with Amebo Newspaper NG, Mohammed Adegboyega, the Oganla of Ago Egun and a prominent figure among Gelede worshippers, highlighted the festival’s significance. He noted that the originality and charm of Gelede have attracted international interest, with visitors from as far as Brazil eager to experience the unique displays and intricate dancing styles. Adegboyega shared that the Gbagede Efe serves a dual purpose: it blesses the worshippers and followers with a new song to usher in a colorful and prosperous year.

As the festival progresses, excitement builds toward the seventh day, which culminates in a grand showcase. The Grandmaster of Gelede, known as Ogbagba, blesses attendees and followers. This year, the iconic Baba Agba, the oldest and most revered Gelede figure, is expected to make his much-anticipated appearance—an event that only occurs once every three years, following the traditions upheld by the custodians of the Gelede in Abeokuta.

In a conversation with our correspondent, Adegboyega expressed the repercussions of skipping the festival for a year, explaining that it would invite misfortune, including mysterious occurrences such as hearing drumbeats without any visible drummers. He emphasized the spiritual and financial benefits of participating in the festival, asserting that it offers guidance and protection from malevolent forces.

Adegboyega also made a heartfelt appeal to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Ogun state, urging them to provide support for the annual festival to bolster the promotion of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. He encouraged the Yoruba diaspora to keep their traditions alive, regardless of where they reside, illustrating the importance of cultural identity and continuity in an increasingly globalized world.

Joining the festival's festivities was Dr. Clement Obadimu, a life coach and President of Mentors Tower, who expressed pride in his roots. Accompanied by family, he voiced his satisfaction with the festival and urged the federal government to support grassroots cultural initiatives aimed at empowering local communities and celebrating their heritage.

Dr. Obadimu also hinted that Gelede is mainly involved in dance and songs, revealing cultural heritage without deities and traditional incuberances.

The Gelede Festival is more than just a celebration; it represents a vibrant tapestry of culture, tradition, and community spirit that unites people of all backgrounds. As the festival unfolds, residents and visitors alike are reminded of the importance of preserving their artistic and cultural legacies, ensuring that the vibrant heritage of the Yoruba people continues to flourish for generations to come.

PoliticsEnergy Group Knocks PETROAN, Accuses Marketers Of Sabotaging Petroleum Sector Re by AmeboFeeds(op): 12:11pm On Jun 17, 2025
Energy Group Knocks PETROAN, Accuses Marketers of Sabotaging Petroleum Sector Reforms

The Centre for Oil Sector Accountability and Reform (COSAR) has dismissed claims by the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) that Dangote Refinery’s business model poses a threat to competition and employment in the downstream petroleum sector.

In a detailed statement issued on Monday by Dr Raymond Osaremen Okojie, president of COSAR, the group said PETROAN’s criticisms of the refinery’s adoption of a forward integration strategy and its planned use of a private sector equalization system reflect a fundamental misunderstanding of free-market economics.

“The recent statement credited to PETROAN on the impact of the introduction of a private equalization fund betrays the very ethos of running a free market,” Dr Okojie said.

“What Dangote is offering is a private sector equivalent of the petroleum equalization fund that was established in 1975 by General Yakubu Gowon, amended in 1989 by General IBB, and modified into bridging allowances in 2021.”

He explained that the refinery’s pricing model will foster uniformity in fuel pricing across the country, enabling better inflation tracking and more accurate determination of fuel consumption.

“This equalization fund will not only create a uniform pricing regime for PMS across Nigeria, which will help the NBS model the CPI basket for inflation for the share contributed by the energy basket, it will help the government find a forward curve for the actual daily consumption numbers that the government has struggled with discovering for over 40 years,” he said.

Okojie dismissed claims that Dangote Refinery would drive modular refineries out of business, insisting that no competition currently exists between them in the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

“The Dangote Refinery is not in competition with modular refineries because modular refineries do not produce PMS. As we speak, none of the modular refineries are able to produce PMS because they lack a catalytic converter or a catalytic reforming unit to process higher distillates like PMS,” he said.

On the question of job displacement, the group countered PETROAN’s assertions, arguing that the refinery will create more employment opportunities than it threatens.

“Dangote is going to employ 4,000 truck drivers and mechanics, and deploy mother stations for compressed natural gas under the government’s gas-to-transport initiative for engines with displacement of more than 2,000 CC,” Okojie said.

“Those 4,000 jobs and all the supporting redundancies will not only create employment, it will also reduce the carbon footprints that are emitted from carbon monoxide gases when fossil fuel trucks are fired for transportation.”

He added that the model presents unique advantages for filling station operators.

“This is to the benefit of station owners, because not only do they get lifted of the burden of assuming haulage risks and costs from Dangote delivering to them Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF), they also have a financing window from the refiner. There’s nowhere in the world where a refiner offers downstream station owners credit facility to take products,” he declared.

Okojie accused elements in the current supply chain of resisting change in order to protect vested interests that have long exploited inefficiencies in the downstream petroleum sector.

“The lobby complaining are people not interested in serving the needs of Nigerians, but layering systems cost from landing to distribution,” he said.

“For decades, we have seen cartels emerge from offshore blending plants, to shipping tanker owners, to depot owners, to truck drivers, that have fixed the price of white transportation fuels, delivered sub-par standard products for Nigerians, violated the provisions of the PIA, falsified landing numbers to justify the lifting of the crude oil feedstock used for swaps, and falsified the daily consumption numbers.”

He maintained that the emergence of a well-capitalised local refiner signals the end of an era of arbitrage, unaccountable supply practices, and fuel subsidies built on opaque numbers.

“The marketers have a choice to either fall in line with the evolution of the markets or form a consortium and contribute their offshore savings towards building their own refinery to compete. The era of swaps, arbitrage, layering of systems costs is gone — welcome to capitalism.”

Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest, has a refining capacity of 650,000 barrels per day and is expected to supply Nigeria’s domestic fuel needs while exporting excess products.

Its direct delivery model and investment in gas-powered logistics infrastructure mark a shift toward vertically integrated fuel supply chains.

Effective 15th of August 2025, the Refinery will begin the distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel to marketers, petrol dealers, manufacturers, telecoms firms, aviation, and other large users across the country, with free logistics to boost distribution network.

To ensure smooth take-off of this scheme, Dangote Refinery has invested in the procurement of 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers. This phase of the programme will continue over an extended timeframe. The refinery is also investing in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations, commonly referred to as daughter booster stations, supported by a fleet of over 100 CNG tankers across the country to ensure seamless product distribution.

This strategic programme is part of our broader commitment to eliminating logistics costs, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability and supporting Nigeria’s economic development. It affirms our dedication to improving the availability and affordability of fuel, in support of broader efforts to strengthen the economy and improve the well-being of all Nigerians.

Zamfara APC Youth Group Rejects Governor Dauda Lawal’s Rumoured Defection

A youth coalition under the banner of the Zamfara APC Integrity Network (ZAIN) has strongly rejected the speculated defection of Governor Dauda Lawal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as a political liability with a trail of poor governance.

In a statement signed by its president, Comrade Murtala Sani Gummi, and made available to journalists in Gusau on Monday, the group said it had credible intelligence suggesting that Governor Lawal was lobbying to join the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections in a bid to realign with the centre and retain political relevance.

The group, however, warned that such a move would backfire, noting that the APC in Zamfara and across Nigeria “cannot afford to inherit a non-performing politician whose leadership has worsened the socio-economic conditions of Zamfara people”.

“We want to make it categorically clear that Governor Dauda Lawal is not welcome in the APC. He is a huge liability, and any attempt to accept him into the party will damage our chances in 2027. Zamfara has suffered under his administration. The streets are not safe, civil servants are groaning, and there’s no tangible infrastructure to speak of,” Gummi said.

The group described Lawal’s rumoured defection as a desperate political move “designed to mask his failures and ride on President Tinubu’s growing popularity in the North”.

“Whereas President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown strong leadership, especially with the gradual stabilisation of the economy and renewed military operations in the North-West, Governor Dauda Lawal’s performance has been abysmal in all ramifications,” the statement added.

ZAIN alleged that under Governor Lawal’s watch, insecurity has escalated, salaries are delayed, and government institutions have weakened.

“What Zamfara needs is visionary leadership — not recycled politicians jumping from party to party for personal survival. APC is rebuilding its structures, and we cannot afford to dilute that progress with someone whose record in office has been marked by blame games and inertia,” Gummi added.

The group urged the national leadership of the APC not to entertain the idea of accepting Lawal into the party, cautioning that such a move would dampen youth mobilisation efforts in the state.

“We are already building strong grassroots structures across all 14 local governments in Zamfara to ensure APC’s victory in 2027. Bringing Dauda Lawal into our fold will discourage the young people who believe in the President’s vision but reject failure at the local level,” Gummi added.

The group further noted that the APC youth wing in Zamfara is committed to supporting credible candidates who can align with the performance of President Tinubu and deliver real dividends of democracy.

“President Tinubu is working. The projects are visible. But Governor Lawal has no track record to show. His defection will be viewed as an opportunistic ploy and must be resisted.”

The group reaffirmed its loyalty to the APC and its determination to defend the party’s integrity in Zamfara State.

“As youths, we have the numbers, the energy, and the will. We will not allow anyone to hijack our structure and create division within the fold. The APC of 2025 is not a dumping ground for underperforming politicians.”

Lawyers, CSOs Storm Attorney General's Office Over $5 Milion Tuition Fees Paid For NMDPRA's Boss Children

Hundreds of lawyers and members of civil society organization, today, stormed the Attorney General's Office with a petition demanding immediate action against Engr. Farouk Ahmed, the CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The group alleges Ahmed abused his office, misappropriating over $5 million in public funds to fund his children in elite schools abroad.

In the petition signed by Barrister Aquila Kendo, the Concerned Nigerian Youths Forum claims Ahmed's children attended prestigious schools in Switzerland and India, with tuition fees running into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It also alleges conflict of interest, citing Ahmed's son's employment with Oando PLC, a company regulated by NMDPRA, and accuses Ahmed of casting doubt on the quality of petroleum products refined by the Dangote Refinery.

“The actions attributed to Engr. Farouk Ahmed, if proven, violate a number of federal statutes and ethical standards,” Kendo stated.

“First is Section 172 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which binds public officers to act in the public interest and to eschew corruption. The diversion of public funds or influence-peddling to sponsor private education abroad directly contradicts this provision.

“Under Paragraphs 1, 6, and 11 of the Fifth Schedule to the Constitution (Code of Conduct for Public Officers), a public official is required to declare all assets and liabilities and is barred from engaging in activities that create conflict between their private interest and public duties.

“The Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act (CAP C15 LFN 2004) reinforces these rules and outlines penalties, including dismissal from office and seizure of assets not lawfully acquired.

“Additionally, Section 15 of the Public Procurement Act 2007 forbids public officers from authorising public spending not backed by lawful appropriation. No known appropriation or budget line justifies the alleged expenditure on foreign education in this case.

“Furthermore, Sections 19 and 26 of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act (ICPC Act) criminalise the use of public office for unjust enrichment and the receipt of any advantage that could compromise an officer’s impartiality. We believe the benefits allegedly extended to Oando and the regulatory latitude granted to fuel importers fall within these violations.

“Under Section 1 of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, any individual who disguises the origin of funds through layered transactions or transfers via proxy accounts is liable to prosecution.

“Finally, Engr. Ahmed’s alleged issuance of licenses to import high-sulphur diesel also violates provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) that empower NMDPRA to safeguard the health and safety of Nigerian consumers through environmental and technical product compliance.”

The group is calling for Ahmed's immediate suspension, coordinated investigations by EFCC, ICPC, and Code of Conduct Bureau, and swift prosecution if allegations are substantiated.

They also demand systemic reforms within NMDPRA to prevent future occurrences, aiming to protect Nigeria's petroleum sector from corruption and ensure accountability.

PoliticsTinubu’s Reforms In Oil And Gas Regulation Worth Celebrating — Energy Governance by AmeboFeeds(op): 3:52pm On Jun 01, 2025
Tinubu’s Reforms in Oil and Gas Regulation Worth Celebrating — Energy Governance Group

The African Centre for Energy Governance and Accountability (ACEGA) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as groundbreaking and well-coordinated reforms in Nigeria’s oil and gas regulatory framework.

The group said the Tinubu administration’s support for the effective implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and its deliberate push to increase crude oil production are signs of genuine transformation in the energy sector.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Dr. Usman Bello Idris, the group said Tinubu’s approach to reform has restored investor confidence, revived production targets, and positioned Nigeria as a more responsible and efficient oil-producing nation.

“For years, Nigeria’s oil and gas sector groaned under inefficiency, uncertainty, and dwindling output. But what we are seeing today under President Tinubu’s leadership is a bold reset — one that respects the sanctity of the Petroleum Industry Act while pushing for real, measurable growth,” Dr. Idris said.

One of the most visible outcomes of the reforms, ACEGA said, is the steady increase in Nigeria’s crude oil production.

Since mid-2023, the country has seen a gradual climb in output levels, breaching 1.7 million barrels per day in recent months — a marked improvement from the lows of 2022 when output plunged below 1.2 million barrels due to theft, vandalism, and poor infrastructure.

Dr. Idris noted that this uptick did not happen by chance but was the result of deliberate interventions supported by Tinubu, including the relaunch of dormant assets, improved metering systems, and coordinated security efforts around critical pipelines.

“Nigeria’s crude oil production had been on life support, but through strategic regulatory leadership and presidential backing, the situation is reversing. Fields are coming back online, theft is being checked, and operators are regaining the confidence to produce,” he said.

ACEGA particularly hailed the president’s strong commitment to implementing the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), signed into law in 2021.

The group noted that Tinubu’s government did not just inherit the legislation; it has gone further to empower the relevant agencies, notably the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), to deliver on its promises.

“We must commend President Tinubu for not sidelining the PIA or paying lip service to its provisions. Instead, he has supported a robust implementation strategy that is already yielding results in licensing, fiscal discipline, community development, and investor clarity,” Dr. Idris stated.

The PIA, which took nearly two decades to become law, was designed to overhaul Nigeria’s oil and gas governance by introducing a transparent fiscal framework, separating regulatory responsibilities, and ensuring that host communities benefit from oil proceeds.

“From the Host Communities Development Trust to new fiscal incentives for marginal fields, and clearer guidelines for environmental compliance, the PIA under this administration is not just a document — it is a living, working tool of reform,” Idris added.

The group also applauded the leadership of Engr. Gbenga Komolafe at the NUPRC noting that his commitment to professionalism and transparency has contributed immensely to the success of the reforms.

It cited the commission’s efforts in reducing production costs, introducing real-time production monitoring, and facilitating a transparent bidding process for oil blocks as exemplary.

“The president has given NUPRC room to work, and they are proving that competent leadership can deliver results. NUPRC’s moves to enforce better metering, clamp down on theft, and promote decarbonisation reflect a forward-thinking agenda aligned with global standards,” ACEGA said.

While commending the gains so far, ACEGA urged the Tinubu administration not to rest on its laurels.

The group said there is a need for deeper investment in energy infrastructure, faster resolution of legacy disputes, and strategic planning for Nigeria’s energy transition in the face of global decarbonisation targets.

“The work is not done yet. Nigeria still faces challenges in refining capacity, gas monetisation, and energy access for its people. But what this administration has shown is that with political will, the sector can be revived. The future of oil and gas in Nigeria can be cleaner, more transparent, and more rewarding for all stakeholders,” Dr. Idris said.

ACEGA concluded by calling on stakeholders in the oil and gas industry — from international oil companies to local investors and host communities — to support the government’s reforms and work collectively to secure Nigeria’s energy future.

Reflecting On Engr Jamiu Ogundele's Journey Of Life

........Diary of his journey so far

By Agboola Kunle Opeyemi

Episode 2

As I reflect on Engr. Ogundele Jamiu journey as a people leader over the past decades, there are valuable insights I’ve gained along the way — wisdom I wish I had possessed when I first stepped into a leadership role.

1. It’s All About the People: When I began my leadership journey, I focused primarily on tasks and goals. However, I soon realized that the heart of leadership lies in building relationships, inspiring individuals, and supporting their growth. Your success as a leader hinges on the success and well-being of your team members.

Engr. Jamiu Invest time in understanding people aspirations, challenges, and strengths.

2. Embrace Humility: Leadership is not about having all the answers; it’s about being open to learning and growth.

Acknowledge that you don’t know everything and be humble enough to seek input from your team.
Embrace diverse perspectives and encourage open dialogue.

Remember, your role is not to be the smartest person in the room, but to bring out the best in your team and harness their collective wisdom.

3.Communication Is Key: Effective communication is the lifeblood of successful leadership. Be clear, transparent, and concise in your messaging. Foster a culture of open communication, where team members feel comfortable sharing their ideas, concerns, and feedback. Remember that communication is a two-way street, and effective leaders know how to convey their vision while also valuing and incorporating the insights of their team.

4.Lead by Example: As a leader, your actions speak louder than words. Your behavior and work ethic set the tone for your team. Be a role model by demonstrating integrity, accountability, and resilience.

Celebrating a phenomenal leader birthday Engr Ogundele Jamiu in advance.
