Nigerian Police Grill FIJ Board Of Trustees Chair, Declare Award-winning Journalist, Fisayo Soyombo Wanted FIJ recently exposed irregularities in the country’s customs service personnel and the invitation could be connected to that. The Nigeria Police Force has asked the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) Board of Trustees, Bukky Shonibare to produce the medium executive director and editor-in-chief, Fisayo Soyombo. FIJ recently exposed irregularities in the country’s customs service personnel and the invitation could be connected to that. Mrs Shonibare mentioned this while narrating what she faced when she honoured the initial invitation by the police in Abuja on the same matter, FIJ reports. According to her, ‘Fisayo is willing to honour the police invitation if invited and clarified that the award-winning journalist is not on the run as assumed by the police. She said, “The investigator closed his iPad, put his hands on the table and said, well we need to speak to ‘Fisayo. You need to produce ‘Fisayo. So I said, if he said I need to produce ‘Fisayo, that sounds like you have tried to get ‘Fisayo or you’ve invited him and he did not come, so you need me, in whatever capacity, to go and produce him. “So, I had to clarify that ‘Fisayo was not on the run; it is not like they had invited him and he didn’t come. So, he asked when I could come with ‘Fisayo. I asked if he was inviting me again. He said, yes, but I had to return with ‘Fisayo. “So, I told him we have to get back to ‘Fisayo and to know when he’ll be available to come, and when he’s around; ‘Fisayo is not running. He took the statement in and came back outside and asked us to come see the deputy director. He had exited at some point into the questioning. “So, they took us in and he said, madam, how was it? I told him that questions were asked, and questions were answered. He asked if I was treated well, and I said that was subjective. He then said that he could see we were being careful and all of that, that we could be friends. He was doing everything possible to be nice and playful. “He asked why FIJ was not like another specific non-profit organisation. “The deputy director said that he was friends with this non-profit organisation. He said that they would go to do their research and bring the information to the police. ‘So, why are we publishing our work?’ he asked. ‘Why don’t we bring some findings to them and settle things amicably?’ “I told him that FIJ is the Foundation for Investigative Journalism. That’s the work that we do. We’re not another befriending non-profit bringing stories to them. We don’t work that way. Our job is to publish stories.”

Mr Governor Dapo Abiodun has not been Fair Enough to the Residents of Ogijo Community | OPINIONS It saddens our heart that a community that contributed majorly to all sector in Ogun state in terms of 1. Revenue Generation 2. Votes has not received any govt intervention in terms of any developmental achievements. Recall that Mr Governor only supported our community after 2 years of blackout that the community had already started contribution to power herself. A single tarred road was approved in 2023 but yet to be completed after a whole year. No single political appointment, job employment (State or federal level) for our indigents. Mr Governor sir, we are very sure you have the statistics of how supportive this Ward has been to the Ogun state government before your emergence as the Governor. For record purpose, we remember vividly and still have the communique of the visitation our community stakeholders had with you prior to 2019 election ,so unfortunate that 5 years down the line nothing to show for it as a community. We as a community knows we are not privy to many informations but we shall use the one at our disposal to ensure our voice is heard. Asiwaju Lekan Saheed OLOKO (ALSO)

This significant development comes alongside the surrender of firearms by those who possessed them illegally, marking a pivotal moment in the state's efforts to combat crime and restore peace. The arms submitted includes onepump action, four double barrels, seven single barrels, two english pistol, four locally made pistol and thirty-five cartridges Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Abiodun Alamutu, affirmed the progress, stating, "Aside from those licensed to bear firearms, no other person is permitted to possess them. Anyone found in possession of firearms after this will be treated as a criminal." He emphasized the importance of ongoing profiling and the forthcoming stage of the program, which will involve the public parading of those who have renounced their involvement in cult activities. "After adequately profile them, they'll be paraded. What we will encourage members of the community so that they don't treat them as outcast because we know from experience that some of them found themselves in this fold , it was after they have been entrapped in it, they now understand what cultism is and it's never easy to opt out because of fear of attack. Now that they're bold enough to surrender what we should do is to reintegrate them as legitimate and law abiding members of the community ." Acknowledging the complexities surrounding cultism, the Akarigbo of Remo Land Oba Babatunde Ajayi emphasized the need for community engagement and support in facilitating the reintegration of former cult members. He highlighted the collaborative efforts between the community, law enforcement, and armed forces in addressing the security challenges and expressed optimism in the willingness of surrendered individuals to contribute positively to society. He underscored the potential for replicating such initiatives in other areas grappling with similar issues, emphasizing the paramount importance of peace for sustainable development. "We know that development can only strive where there's an atmosphere of peace and that's what we're clamouring for here. I want to use this opportunity to appeal to all other sectors of this state that what we are doing in sagamu today, is doable in other places also . I want to thank the Governor of Ogun State for giving us that support . "I want to say this is not all the arms that they have been using but just as the Akarigbo said , it's a continuous process , we are still in that process of recovering these firearms and am sure that most of them will know now that crime doesn't pay so it is better to live in peace . All of us should live in unity and that's what will bring development to our state." The Director of Department State Services (DSS) Folashade Adekayajo represented by Deputy Director of Operations and Intelligence, Sikiru Kolawole, echoed the call for individuals involved in cult activities to embrace peace and renounce violence. He emphasized the crucial role of community members in providing information to aid law enforcement efforts in curbing criminal activities.

Loyalty Indeed; by Thomas A. Akintoye | Opinions It is over a whole year that the National election which ushered in President ‘Bola Ahmed Tinubu was held. As is the usual and expected practice before such a big election, numerous groups showed their unalloyed support for their candidate. Banners, Bill boards as well as designated offices dotted the whole city! Indisputably, PBAT enjoyed unprecedented support in huge numbers. However, barely twelve months later, a cursory look throughout the landscape of the metropolitan city of Ibadan: the capital of Western Region, Western State and Old Oyo State, notorious for "operation wet e" in the 60's and rascality cum vandalism seen in 1983, shows that almost all the support group offices had been closed down. Except for two. These are the two big offices occupied by Sen. Rilwan Akanbi and utilized as the 2023 campaign outlets for PBAT election. The offices are still standing with very visible billboards and banners of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The first of these offices is located at Ringroad, a popular and densely populated area of Ibadan South West Local Government. The second one is in the hugely populated interior of the city namely ‘Nalende, in Ibadan North West LG. Noteworthy is the fact that The multiple campaign buses branded and used for the electioneering campaign by Sen Rilwan Akanbi are still visible till date. It can be said that for anyone to keep such offices running and campaign vehicles functioning, he must be popular and well loved in his community. Suffice to say that most had closed down their offices for obvious reasons which includes lack of funding as well as fear of repraisal attacks like when the Petroleum products subsidy was removed and the hyper-inflation biting very hard! Loyalty as the topic which is rear in politics, On his part, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, the Okanlomo of Ibadanland, remains the astute progressive he has always been. Well known for his philanthropic endeavours, he will continue to be a worthy voice of the people while proudly raising the flag of the Party very high. Signed. Thomas A. Joe Ajaero ; flying the kite of opposition Sen. Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi. As a prominent member of the 8th Senate in the National Assembly, I can categorically say Ajaero is not fit to lead NLC now and ever. The NLC at the beginning was indeed hope of the commoners, downtrodden and majority of the working class. Great history students would have learnt about the great exploit and leadership under Late Pa Micheal Imoudu. The late labour leader along with others fought the imperialist leadership during the colonial regime. Same can be said of Alhaji Hassan Sunmonu, a labour leader under the despotic and tyrannical military dictators. Those were men who risked their lives for the betterment of the citizens in general. The political dispensation developing in Nigeria is with a bi-cameral legislature at the centre. They are empowered to put checks and balances on the executive arm of Government There is no gainsaying that past government messed up, vandalized and strangulated the economy. The PBAT government is fighting tooth and nail to bring things under control, hence the plea from time to time to the nation. Ajaero calling for strike all the time is quite unreasonable, unfortunate and mere playing to the gallery. Ajaero as a foremost labour leader before becoming NLC President should have been a voice for the masses, instead Ajaero was a spokeperson and highly partisan in the 2023 Presidential election where he rooted firmly for Labour Party man H.E Peter Obi. It can be concluded that Ajaero is flying the kite of opposition in order to run down the government of PBAT. Ajaero is a staunch Labour Party member. Can Ajaero be trusted ? Where was Ajaero when Mr. Godwin Emefiele punished us all with his unnecessary 'no cash policy' ? The commoners and downtroddens suffered greatly and many lives were lost. Where was Ajaero when crude oil ,our commonwealth was sold by last regime into the future ànd multi million dollars were squandered It can be asked, from whom did Ajaero had his tutelage ? Since 1992, majority of our labour leaders were using the NLC as a steppingstone to Politics, Pascal Bafyau, Adams Oshiomole on my mind. Ajaero is more than welcome to join politics when 2027 comes. Ajaero must be told that various states labour leaders seem to be focused with the assignment of betterment of the state workers. They have little trust in Ajaero's leadership. Imagine Ajaero has called for strike four times within the nine months of the PBAT administration. Though , there is hardship in the land and our economy is struggling but the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be given a fair chance to stabilize the country and find urgent and cogent solution to the hyper-inflation, banditry , insecurity ,epileptic unstable power supply and high unemployment in the country. So far, part of our nation debt paid, strategic policies like : 1. Forest guards have been mentioned. 2. Moribund and Comatose Refineries are almost back to life. 3.Reduction with potential to get to nought on crude-oil theft. 4. Release of grains from National Storage in order to cushion the hunger effect. 5. The President, most strategic and coordinating Ministers are giving feedback(situation report) to Nigerians as at when due. 6. Effort is ongoing for the creation of State Police We must say NO to any nationwide strike and protest. We must pray and support the government of the day. God bless Nigeria.
