kulyie: Mine is tomato, pepper, onions and a little bit of ginger to give it a spicy taste and a nice smellThat picture doesn't look like food. ![]() |
When my wife visited me in Nigeria for the first time, I wanted to surprise her with my yummy Africa egusi soup with pounded yam. Together, we went to the market, bought all ingredients- including atarodo. She saw me packed a bunch of pepper, added it to the tomatoes and giving it out for blending- she didn't ask any question. Not until we started eating, her first African meal ever, that I realised oyibos don't eat as much spicy food as we do. It was an evening she stills recounts. But today, she even eats more spicy food than I do. She thinks she is now more African than I am. |

These are two comments that realy got me thinking. They are not mine, I copied them from a CNN article on why Nigerian cannot watch Half of The Yellow Sun. I know why they do not want it aired, they (Nigeria's political class) detest 'constructive dialogue'. Over four decades after the unfortunate Nigerian Civil War, we have not deemed it necessary to 'talk' about the remote cause(s) and impact of the war with the aim of preventing a recurrence. The movie tells the often untold part of the Civil War-the strength of love, the prize of courage and the cost of war. After the war, Gen. Gowon made a sentence containing only four words-'no victor no vanquished' and afterwards granted a blanket amnesty to all those who took part in the Biafran insurrection. We knew there was a victor and of course a vanquish; 2 million Biafrans died, property worth millions were seized from them, a few pounds were handed to former millionaires to start life afresh and their positions in the civil service were not returned back to them...we all know who the vanquished were. The factors that led to that war are replaying themselves again today in even more worrisome proportion, yet the government ask us not to 'talk' about some issues at the confab. When truth is not placed in the public domain for all to buffet on, falsehood will be served on a platter of gold with dire consequences.--By KingSegun1 I urge anyone who hasnt watched this movie to do so.It is an absolutely magnificent movie, and its sad that one of Nigeria's best movies in a while cant be watched by the people of Nigeria.I dont know much about Nigeria but the little i do know is that the country is very divided just like most other African countries(for example in my country Uganda, there is tribal tensions, though not as much as other countries, but t has the potential to cause problems),so if it really has to do with being worried about tribal tensions, then i guess its alright, because the consequences of tribal tensions could cause Nigeria to dis-integrate quicker than even what Boko Haram could do on their best day.Its sad though, this move is amazing...makes me proud to be African,--By David Mulangu |

I understand that most of those advising the OP to go ahead and kill himself are simply trying to make jokes, however, this is dangerous as some may interpret it to mean that you all are advising him to go and die. There have been recent cases of people who went ahead and hung themselves because someone online told them to go do so. Please let's not joke with such things.

Even though it took me some time to get used to it, I still find it repulsive when my oyibo neighbors, friends, and passer-by wipe their noses when am eating or they are eating. At dining, they bring out their papers, wipe their noses- making that "fruuuuh" sound thereby transferring the mucus (phlegm) into my throat.

Chai, na dis kind things dey make person get longerthroat for another person religion. You see, if we are patient enough to properly understand our Muslim friends, we will understand that, Islam, like Christianity, is not a bad religion. There are just bad people on both sides. I like our humanity and the diversity. It'll be boring to have just one kind of people or belief.

bishopoliver: Call me old-school if you like, but using hard cover Bible is more fulfilling than the mobile ones..The printed copy Bible is just ordinary binded paper without the printed word of God, likewise, the Ipad Bible is just a mere plastic and probably device without the word of God. I will argue that it is not the paper that does the work but the content and the person behind the doing.
