Good day gurus in the house. Appreciate how you have always taken time to solve issues and guided newcomers on how to do it right. More grease to your elbows. Salute!!

I just got a refusal for my study permit application on the ground of finance. I see this as a generic response because I followed every details posted by the gurus here and also from other available resources.

- First off, I run a company with multiple outlets in Nigeria and I pay myself N5m monthly as basic salary excluding other allowances.
- I applied for a 2 year PGC program
- I am going alone ( I didn’t include my kids and husband)
- I attached 2 personal SOA - one has 50m +, the other has 53m+. (Please note that there are no lump sum. All monies were accumulated over time)

- I attached GIC of CA $20,643 for one year living expenses
- I have paid one year tuition fee of CA $20,000, just remaining 2nd year (CA$21,000). Receipts were attached
- I attached a detailed table of content and financial analysis letter showing that after all payments , I still have a total of CA$92,818.82 in my account (I even quoted the source of the exchange rate info).

- That money will be sufficient to pay the $21,000 for the 2nd year tuition as well as my living expenses and I will still have over CAD 50k left.
- I attached my company’s profile, tax clearance and company’s statement of account to show source of funds. I even added each stores Sales Terminal reports to show turnover of sales.

To my surprise , the officer said my finances is not sufficient. The news has left me devastated and I need help on how to appeal this

My class resumes by January

Pls help me 😞😞😞
So sorry, I know you feel bad, and I’m sure you feel disappointed. Sometimes it’s not actually you that’s the problem—it’s just the way things are.

To give some clarity: Canada plans to issue 437,000 study permits in 2025, which is a 10% decrease from the 2024 cap. Between January and June 2025, only 36,417 new study permits were issued, compared to 125,034 in the same period in 2024—a ~70% drop.

So it might just mean they had already reached the cap during the period you applied. That’s why I said it might not fully be about you.

Relax Plan make sure you give the right documents to show that your are making the money you said you are making in your business and apply again—I got mine on my third try.

I agree with JMG12 questions

has it been 24 hours since it happened ?

If it was locked due to too many login attempts, the account usually unlocks itself after 24 hours. She can then try again.

Housemanship is paid work as the person already has provisional license from MDCN. My spouse used hers and it was counted as work experience successfully. Make sure reference letter covers the pay, working hours and duties.
Entering the pool with 1 year of work experience as a doctor is not really the problem—the issue is that the person is likely entering with fewer CRS points. Since they have less than 3 years of work experience, they wouldn’t be able to maximize the points for foreign work experience.

From the perspective of getting called from the pool, the maximum CRS score a Nigerian doctor with 1 year of work experience (Housemanship) could achieve, even after maxing IELTS, would be around 456.

Looking at past draws in the Healthcare and Social Services occupations category, scores below 456 have only been selected 2 out of 10 times. So, if we go strictly by numbers and probability, that gives about a 2-in-10 chance—assuming you’ve maxed IELTS and are at least 29 years old

but in all please always be in the pool and Try to increase your chances PNP French ETC you never know

A Canadian work permit for an 18-year-old? Hmm, that looks like a red flag to me—but what do I know? Medicals can only be done in Lagos and Abuja: https://secure.cic.gc.ca/PanelPhysicianMedecinDesigne/en/Home

If its only housemanship one has done. That's a year already. Enough to enter the pool.
entering the pool is not the problem

But in a competitive PR draw with high CRS cut-off, one year does not give maximum foreign work experience points

Lots of people have used housemanship as part of their work experiences and got PR.
Interesting, we learn every day. But the housemanship is added to the remaining 2 years, making it 3 years of foreign work experience, I believe — not just housemanship alone.

Please for a 2yr program, do I still need to show that I have funds to pay for the 2nd yr in my account after paying the full first yr tuition before submitting a student visa application?
You paid the full first year?

Was that the school’s instruction — to pay the first semester in full as an initial deposit? Normally, schools only require around 25% of the first semester’s fees as an acceptance deposit.

Anyway, to answer your question: No and Yes.

If you’ve paid Year 1 in full, you only need to show living expenses for one year plus proof of how you’ll fund Year 2 tuition. And what better proof, coming from Nigeria, than already having the 2nd year funds in your account?

This thing is confusing me
I can’t believe the Mod gave me a one-month temporary ban. Me, that only shares information with links from government or credible websites—it can only be the handwork of BadAdvisor

anyways to answer your question

Spouses/common-law partners of international students are eligible for an open work permit IF the student (your partner) is enrolled in one of:
(1) A master’s program that is 16 months or longer.
(2) A doctoral program.
(3) A select professional / eligible program at a university. Examples include : dental surgery (DDS, DMD), law (LLB, JD, BCL), medicine (MD), pharmacy, optometry, veterinary medicine, nursing (certain degrees), engineering, etc

Hello guys, currently I am here in Europe me and my wife please do we have a chance of getting into Canada together via study route. And which schools please thanks
If you have the money and you’re pursuing a course that aligns with your current qualifications, then yes — why not.

It’s a natural trajectory. Money is the main factor.

But life after school in Canada is different: permanent residency isn’t guaranteed.

Nothing is certain, so take your time and weigh the pros and cons

Please I am doctor currently doing my housemanship, do I stand a chance if I apply with one of experience after my housejob.
So after completing your housemanship (internship), once you have one full year of independent practice or equivalent work experience, you’ll meet the minimum requirement.

⚠️ Note: Housemanship (internship) may not always be accepted as valid skilled work experience for immigration purposes since it’s sometimes classified as training, not independent work. IRCC usually counts post-licensure practice

Hello guys, I was browsing through lead city university portal and found a short course in Early childhood care education which is for six weeks. I had already evaluated my OND and HND as two or more certificates, do you think this six weeks course can be evaluated by Wes or I should just focus on PGDE (I am asking for the education category because I have gone back to teaching)

Thanks in anticipation
Don’t bother with the 6-week Early Childhood Care certificate if your goal is WES evaluation for immigration/education equivalency — it won’t count.

Instead, if you want to strengthen your profile for teaching and immigration, the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) is the better option

Guys what happens if your IELTS tests score Expires before getting approval to travel to Canada.
Got invited in this latest health draw and my IELTS test result will expire this November 2025
Since your IELTS expires November 2025, you must submit your e-APR before then.

After submission, you don’t need to worry about the expiry date anymore.

Hello,

Thanks for your advice the other day. I did all you mentioned but I am still being asked for the PCC. Please, what's the way forward on this?
Hey, it would be better if you contact a registered immigration consultant. There’s something in your application they are not convinced about, or something you may not be doing correctly. Try searching for one in the closest city to you.

My current crs score is 465
I have a masters and i am above 30
Let me not lie—it’s going to be hard, but you still have some options. It will take extra effort.

Pre-2023/2024, a CRS score of 465 outside Canada would have been competitive. But right now, it’s not even high enough for many candidates already inside Canada seeking PR.

Here’s the simple truth:

Learn French PNP are your only options very hard for both

Recent general/CEC rounds have been in the low–mid 520s or higher—not reachable at 465.

You’re likely in the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) stream under Express Entry, so keep your profile active.

The STEM category (which covers software occupations) has hovered in the mid-480s in 2025. That’s still above 465, but much closer.

What you can do:

1 Retake IELTS (or CELPIP) targeting CLB 9/10.

2 Consider TEF/TCF (French test) to chase the +50 French points and qualify for French-category draws. Recent French-only draws have landed around 481. If you can reach CLB 7+ in French, you get both the category eligibility and bonus points.

3.Pursue a PNP in parallel:

Register “expression of interest” for Ontario HCP (Tech) and BC PNP Tech. its not easy but you need extra 600 PNP points to scale pass

Set job alerts for Ontario and BC (WelcomeBC, Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program).

4 Employer-driven ‘come first, then PR’ routes (strong for software):

Apply to Canadian jobs that use Global Talent Stream (GTS) or Intra-Company Transfer (ICT). Mention “Global Talent Stream” in cover letters and target designated/GTS-savvy employers.

It’s tough, since there are many qualified developers in Canada and the employment rate is high right now.

If open to smaller communities, target Atlantic or RCIP programs:

Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP): Full-time, non-seasonal job offer from a designated employer in Atlantic Canada + settlement plan = PR pathway (not just a work permit).

Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP): Launched in 2025 as the RNIP replacement. Requires a job offer from a designated employer in a participating rural community, then a community recommendation, then PR application.

Hello guys, it's been a long time on this page, I got my study visa in 2021, with the help of this platform and the seniors who still keep this place running. God bless you.

Please I have 2 Questions which I need help to clarify

1) Can someone on a work permit be a sponsor to a sibling

2) If yes, can the POF from just the sponsor be declared and nothing from the sibling

What i am trying to say in essence is that. The sponsor who is paying the school fees is the direct sister to the applicant, same surname. Can she just declare her account and everything needed from her without even bothering transferring the POF into the applicant's account ( money is in Cad, exchange rates will finish the money)
Note everything will be covered by the sponsor including housing.
Technically, yes, it is possible. A close relative in Canada—even if on a work permit (a sibling, in this case)—can act as a financial sponsor for a student visa application.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) does not restrict proof of funds to only the applicant’s account. They accept funds from parents, guardians, or close relatives who can genuinely support the applicant.

The key is that the relationship and financial commitment must be clearly demonstrated (e.g., sibling ties, letter of sponsorship, supporting documents).

Here is the reality:
The main issue is that you must show the full two years of tuition fees plus the $22,895 per year that the Canadian government requires international students to demonstrate. There are no exceptions, even if you live with your sibling.

So, on average, you are looking at annual tuition of about $19,252 (total $38,504 for two years) plus $22,895 in living expenses. That’s a minimum of $61,399 that must be shown as proof of funds.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/get-documents/financial-support.html
https://www.studyincanada.com/Discover/Article/1/5468/International-Student-Tuition-Across-Canada

Ultimately, it’s about the money in your account, and your T4 tax return must align with the amount of savings you claim to have.

Please help. can the iom results from study permit be used in apply for pr? Candidate’s study permit application was denied. But iom result is still valid
If the candidate’s study permit was refused but the IOM medical exam is still within 12 months, they can usually reuse it for PR by:

Entering the IME number in the PR medical section

Uploading the IOM’s eMedical sheet as proof

If it’s close to expiry, IRCC might still accept it temporarily and later ask for a re-examination.
