The problem with cases like this is that you’re not explaining your particular situation clearly, which makes it difficult for anyone to give you a “magical” figure, to be honest.

This is roughly how IRCC will view your case for Personl Annual Living Cost (CAD) No fees included:

Main applicant (student) $20,635 +Spouse / Partner + First child + Second child
Total Living Cost $42,543 CAD/year (minus your tuition fees)

So, if your tuition fee is around $35,000 CAD for the entire program,

you’re looking at a minimum of $77,543 CAD to show as proof of funds... remember, that’s the minimum.

But since you’re coming from Nigeria, where the rejection rate is very high, you’ll need to show more funds than the usual applicant, especially since you’re bringing your family.

Now, I need you to ask yourself these tough questions

Is it better to go alone first, get settled, and then invite your family later?
Let’s be honest... unless you’re coming as a Permanent Resident (PR), bringing your entire family on a study route isn’t as easy as it used to be between 2016 and 2021.

Canada is expensive, and the current government knows this....they’re cutting back on benefits and handouts.
Things have changed.

Spousal visas are facing higher rejection rates ( I know you will say might will be different but the numbers do not lie)... I see rejection letters all the time my emails are full of them.

However, when applicants go alone first, work hard, finish school, get PR, and then bring their family, they often succeed.

You need to be very intentional about everything. I understand that life itself is a risk, but ask yourself these questions:

(1) How much do you currently have as Proof of Funds (POF)? Bringing your family means you’ll need significantly more money.

(2) How did you obtain your POF? IRCC will want to understand the source of your funds.

(3) What city will you be living and studying in? Big cities are more expensive; smaller towns might reduce your living costs.

(4) Will your spouse qualify for a work permit? (5) Do you have enough for tuition + family living costs + buffer for a family of four ? IRCC will be looking at even if you have that money why carry your whole family member to come to Canada they see you will not have a reason to want to leave after your studies

(6) How will you manage expenses once in Canada---- single or dual income?

(7) Will your spouse’s work permit realistically allow them to find work quickly, or will that drain your savings?

( 8 ) What type of jobs can your spouse realistically get-- part-time or full-time?

(9) What’s the cost of childcare or schooling for kids (often $700–$1,500/month per child)? Also, what type of health insurance will cover your children?

(10) Will your Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) lead to Permanent Residency (PR) later? Because if not, honestly — it might not be worth it if you calculate your CRS score and even with studying and working in Canada for a Year you are not in 490

Now, here are the facts:
As of 2025, 3,548 Nigerians applied for asylum in Canada. Out of those,

1,596 were accepted

611 were rejected

2,292 withdrew their claims
Meanwhile, 21,125 cases from previous years are still pending.

That means if you include the huge backlog, the overall success rate is about 6.5% .
Even if you look only at the current applicants, the numbers are not encouraging.

Please, don’t let anyone lie to you or sell you sweet dreams. Some so-called “agents” on Facebook and Telegram are still cashing out big time, giving false hope to desperate people.

The truth is the system is extremely tough right now. Getting asylum in Canada is not an easy or guaranteed path, especially for Nigerians. I’m sharing this because I genuinely care about people’s futures.

I personally wouldn’t take a 6.5% chance on anything that important.
Think carefully and explore safer, more stable immigration options before making big decisions.

You do not use a special application form for CAN+.

Instead, you submit a standard Temporary Resident Visa application online and provide proof you meet the eligibility criteria: having traveled to Canada in the last 10 years or holding a valid U.S. non-immigrant visa.

The application portal will screen your application for CAN+ eligibility, and if you meet the criteria, your application will be automatically selected, and you will enjoy expedited processing.

If you have a valid USA/Canada visa, you automatically qualified for Can+ which bank statement will be exempted.

I’d like to correct my earlier statement — @Ashirioluwa is correct. When completing the questionnaire, the system automatically determines which supporting documents you’ll need to provide, so it doesn’t ask for proof of funds. when you have an active U.S. or Canadian visa

(I had already paid my first semester tuition and had over ₦50 million as POF, but the VO still wasn’t convinced)

3rd Application

This time, I went all in and paid my complete tuition.

I decided to try something different, I did GIC for living expenses after paying full tuition.

The reason why, currently, Nigerians with passports applying for student visas have only about an 18% approval rate is because a large number of students claimed asylum before even finishing their programs.

Yes, always keep your Express Entry profile active.
It doesn’t cost you anything except your language test and certificate evaluation. After that, look for ways to boost your score.

Lately, general draws have been very competitive — most CRS cutoffs in 2024–2025 were around 525–540+, sometimes even higher.

It’s rare for IRCC to invite anyone below 500 in general draws unless it’s a category draw (like French, STEM, Healthcare, or Trades).

Since You’re a Tech Person (Web Developer) That’s a good thing! IRCC has been doing STEM/Tech category draws since mid-2023.

In those draws, CRS scores are usually between 470–500, and sometimes lower.Jobs like software developers, web developers, and programmers are all included. If your NOC code is 21232 (Software Developer) or 21234 (Web Developer), you can benefit from these STEM draws.

Should You Still Create a Profile?

Yes, 100%. You can’t get invited if you’re not in the pool. Once you’re in, you’ll be considered for both general and category-based draws.

Your profile is valid for 12 months, and you can update it anytime (new IELTS, job offer, spouse’s ECA, etc.).

Even if 478 doesn’t get picked right away, you’ll still have chances through: STEM draws or Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) Or future draws if CRS cutoffs go down.

✅ Go ahead and create your profile.
✅ Select your NOC code carefully (must fall under STEM if possible).

To be honest, your case isn’t strong. Cash transfers or money sent are not usually considered strong proof.

If you really need help, you should speak with a licensed immigration consultant — they’re in the best position to guide you properly. From my experience, your case doesn’t look strong, and even if you rush to do a court marriage now, IRCC can easily sense when something doesn’t add up.

The employer is supposed to cover LMIA/work-visa costs — you shouldn’t pay.

Did you even apply or interview for the job?

If you didn’t, and someone is asking for ₦10m, it’s a scam. People have paid crazy amounts for LMIA jobs (even up to $40,000 CAD) which are crazy but what do I know about anything— don’t fall for it.

Again You need to ask the Facebook agent:

1. Who is the employer?

2. What is the LMIA number? (It’s a 7‑digit number, usually starting with an 8.)

3. Is the LMIA for an open work permit or a closed work permit?

4. What is the LMIA’s duration? Currently, it must be for 6 months, as the Government has stopped issuing 1‑year LMIA approvals for certain jobs.

If the agent lies or ignores these questions, that’s an immediate red flag.
