Pochettino: "We have players that should be important today [that] are not in the team because they were injured. Even with all the players fit, maybe you can lose games. But when the circumstances are [as they are] now, I think it’s about having patience and to try to recover the players, because I think if you see the squad, we have a very good balance."

Pochettino says Mudryk has been reluctant to compete with him in crossbar challenge exercises in training:

"He said to me today, ‘No, I don’t want to play with you anymore because always you win’.

I said ‘Yes, because I had the belief, and the balance between belief and quality I know very well because I am 50 years old. You are still young, you need to still know yourself’. Today was the first time that we lost [to] him, because I always won."

I think you'd like this

https://x.com/the_elastico/status/1706653726314737902?s=20[/quote]An amateur will know this except you're Seb or Pochettino who are happy and content with XG/As numbers.
You need runners and shooters around the box to score goals and Gallagher best attribute aside his high energy level is his box runs and shooting, then you have Chilwell who can gatecrash and score goals or offer assists. Drop Thiago Silva play Colwilll as CB and Chilwell as LB (he should stay wide and high), Mudryk as inverted winger to occupy the space vacated by Jackson when he comes deep, play Enzo with Caicedo then you have a functioning team that's balanced offensively and defensively

Mauricio Pochettino issued a dressing room rallying cry to his Chelsea players in a bid to inspire an upturn after their defeat to Aston Villa.

During his post-match address to his players, Pochettino stressed that a collective effort will be required from all involved to turn things around and get Chelsea out of their current rut and is understood to have backed his players, insisting they have what it takes to reverse the club's fortunes and bring an end to their difficult start to the season.

Football finance expert Dr. Rob Wilson: "Chelsea's strategy of handing players eight-year contracts is hugely risky, it's been done deliberately to maximise the investment and acquisition of other players in order to amortise those player contracts so they will fit under the FFP regulations. While Chelsea backed away from paying what they felt to be an English premium placed on Declan Rice, who had been a top target of former head coach Graham Potter.

They ended up paying more for 21-year-old Cole Palmer than Spurs spent on Maddison and paid an initial £53 million for 19-year-old Romeo Lavia, which is roughly £20 million more than Ward-Prowse cost West Ham.

The Chelsea squad is now described as a tight-knit one and that accepts it is just a matter of things needing to click on the pitch which requires that all-important time.

As for Pochettino's efforts to improve the team, 'I know for a fact they are definitely working hard,' one source insisted.

Lots is being done on shape and formation with a big focus on fitness, intensity and high standards.

"Mudryk is emblematic of Todd Boehly’s failing project. A young, unproven player signed for a big fee on an extraordinarily long eight-year contract. More than £1bn has been spent to create a disjointed, inexperienced group of players that so far neither Graham Potter or Pochettino has been able to unify."
