The Hausas are perhaps the most under-researched ethnic group in Nigeria. The situation is not aided by the war being waged by the militant group Boko haram which has led to the militarization of states like Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. This has resulted in the negative perception about people from the region, especially by those that reside in the South. Nevertheless, there are some things that many people do not know about these tribe. I came up with some interesting facts about Hausas that will shine them in a new light. NB:This is not to portray any ethnic group as above others.Tribal bigots should keep-off this thread 1.THEY ARE NOT BOKO HARAM MEMBERS In a city like Lagos, many Hausas have been tagged Boko Haram even though they do not have any link with the militant organization which has been waging a guerilla war in the northeastern part of the country. Fortunately, the military is winning the war against the group. Even when they board buses, the look of suspicion is written all over the faces of the passengers. They are not Boko Haram. 2.ENLIGHTENED When you see an Hausa man, he is always armed with his transistor radio. With this radio, he listens to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa service and other programmes aired in Hausa. This helps him keep tabs on what is happening in Nigeria and other parts of the world. Hence, if you still think the Hausa man in your neighbourhood is an information illiterate, you have to shelve that thought. 3.HARDWORKING On the streets of Lagos, it is the Hausa man is willing to do ‘anything’ to survive as far as it is legal. They are the cobblers that mend your shoe, the small kiosk owners built to complement their jobs as the security guards and are ready to do menial jobs in a bid to keep body and soul going. In fact, they are the unofficial Bureau De Change of many Nigerians. In addition, they offer the best kilishi,Suya. 4.WILLING TO HELP/TRUSTWORTHY Consider this scenario – if you are a first time visitor to Lagos, where the pursuit of money is faster than lightening and you approach a Hausa bike man for a drop-off but the cost is N500 and you have N450 with you, he will most likely take you to your destination. In total contrast, if you meet a person from other ethnic groups, they are sure to double the price and instead of taking the normal route, he will take the longer route just to justify the amount he charged (I remember my first time in Lagos). 5.BEAUTIFUL WOMEN If you have been searching for a beautiful woman, you can go the Hausa way. The catch is you just need to speak a bit of the local dialect. And since some of them are religious, they will probably prefer a man with strong beliefs. But this not stopping you from attempting, though.

Even though you know you don’t want to end up with someone who is less than you deserve, for one reason or another, you can end up in a relationship with or married to someone who is. It may seem like the relationship is a good solution to your problems, but it can actually be the source of chronic discontent and even heartbreak. To avoid that, here are 7 suggestions to prevent you from settling. 1. Take risks One reason many people settle is they are afraid of holding out for something that may not exist. What they have right now is secure, but waiting is a gamble. However, it’s a risk worth taking. Even though the thought of ending up alone can be terrifying, the reality can’t be worse than getting stuck in an awful relationship. Take the risk—wait. 2. Avoid peer pressure Peer pressure can come in all shapes and forms. Maybe it’s relatives at holiday parties asking why you’re still single or friends getting married and moving on without you. In whatever form, these pressures can make you run to the first person who looks your way in spite of the fact that they aren’t great for you. Focus on yourself, and do whatever you can to prevent outside influences from driving you to make less-than-ideal life choices. 3. Work on your fear of being alone If you have a terror of being alone (whether for a month or for forever), you are in danger of allowing yourself to settle for whichever person shows interest, even a person who might not be the best for you. Learn to be confident in your single self. Develop independence economically, socially and emotionally. Discover things you enjoy doing by yourself. If you are satisfied with your independence, you reduce your risk of being with someone just because they’re there. 4. Meet lots of people The more people you meet, the more likely you are to meet the person who meets your expectations. Talk to everyone: the person behind you in line, sitting next to you on the train or waiting at the cross walk. It doesn’t matter whether they are old or young, male or female; what’s important is that you are constantly meeting people so that you practice talking to people (so it’s not a shock to your system when you try to converse with a cute guy in Mama Basira's joint). Expand your network—even if the person you talk to isn’t your type, they may know someone who is. Increase your odds of meeting “the one.” 5. Have a vision Many people will come down on you for having a specific idea of who you want to marry. However, “being picky” is what prevents you from settling. Not everything you hope for in a partner is a necessity, but that doesn’t mean you can’t set inflexible standards about the most important things. Write these down. Your focus on these qualities will help you recognize which people meet your expectations and which don’t. 6. Know your deal-breakers Just like you should have an idea of what qualities are most important for your partner to have, you need to know what you cannot tolerate. This list does not have to be extensive, but you should know exactly where you draw your line in order to avoid settling for someone who has qualities that are actually unacceptable toyou. 7. Become a high-value person When you meet someone who meets your high expectations, they will be the kind of person that has high expectations as well. Do everything you can to tailor yourself into a person that you would want to marry. If you want to be with someone who is physically active, get moving yourself. If you want to be with someone who is patient, develop patience yourself. By holding yourself to the expectations you have for your dream partner, you will make yourself the kind of person who never has to settle. Tosyne2much,Wristbangle ADD YOURS |

Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, yesterday explained why it could not expel some cadets captured on video torturing a civilian for no just reason. Nigerians cried out in condemnation of the cadets led by a female, who were shown in a video clip, which went viral last month, dehumanizing a young man later identified as Amari Sunday, a staff of Abuja Park “N” Pay, for allegedly commending the beauty of one of the female cadets. Sunday later, in an interview with channels television, said the real reason why he was tortured was because he wasn't fast enough when one of the unruly cadets had demanded his attention. While majority of Nigerians called for the expulsion of the cadets, the Commandant of the elite Nigerian military training institution, Major General Mohammed Ibrahim, said they could not be expelled because the time to prosecute them had lapsed. According to the NDA Commandant, the time frame for expelling any cadet for wrongdoing must not exceed six months from the date the alleged offence was committed. Speaking at the matriculation ceremony of 466 officer cadets of the 67th Regular Course, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim noted that the incident in question took place two years ago when the cadets were first termers and had just been in the academy for only three months. While noting that appropriate disciplinary action had already been taken on the cadets, he urged the newly matriculated ones to consider themselves lucky to have successfully passed the one month intensive military training. A mother is most times seen as a deity; someone who is revered and respected. The role of a mother in a child’s life can never be adequately described. Not only do they bring children into this world, they also nurture them until they become independent individuals who are capable of making decisions by themselves. However, not all women are mothers. Not every woman is able to instill discipline and love into a child at the same time. Instead, we have women who confuse pampering with love. Showering a child with gifts and items of luxury doesn’t necessarily depict love, many were born without a silver spoon and their mothers were able to guide them on the right path with all the affections they could muster. Being raised by a strong mother means one is able to get all the basic training one ought to be equipped with in life. There would always be moments of denial, when mothers hold back from giving because they want to pass a strong message; that in life, we don’t always get what we desire. A strong mother would instill core values into a child; she would deposit positive traits into that child and remain a role model to such a child. There are so many benefits accrued to being raised by a strong mother. Some of them are: 1. Life Is Seen In A Different View Being raised by a strong mother makes one see life in a different view. You understand that your journey may not be smooth and you are ready to move on irrespective of the stumbling blocks you meet along the way. Raising a child isn’t an easy task, and way one or the other, your mother was able to scale through many hurdles of life. That way you learn the challenges don’t define you and your self-esteem is boosted. Thus, you learn to believe in yourself at all times. 2. Value Of Independence. Strong mothers most times are women who raise their children in the absence of a father figure. Their husbands could have passed on or may not have been a stay-home dad. Either way, they learn over time to shoulder heavy responsibilities. They make tremendous effort to fill the gap created in the absence of a man. People raised this way don’t depend on others. 3. Shades Of Emotion Growing up under the watchful eyes of a strong mother often makes one a wonderful character. People are able to exhibit various traits. They know when to change from the sweet compassionate people they are to people who are stern. The various shades of emotions they were raised with become a part of them. They could be strong, sensitive, soft and stern when the need arises. 4. Learn What Love Really Is Being raised by a strong mother makes one know the real value of love. People like that know what unconditional love is and they don’t mix it with infatuation. They also turn out to be people who are capable of loving without holding back; you cannot give what you don’t have. 5. Develop Virtues Like Patience And Faith Moments when one gets sick, the courage and faith of a strong mother could never be adequately estimated. Strong mothers have unwavering faith when it comes to certain issues. Same way, they are able to impact this quality into their children and make this unique virtue an essential part of them. People raised this way know the contextual meaning of perseverance when pursuing life goals. 6. Learn To Be Happy At All Times Strong mothers irrespective of the trials and travails they go through are happy people. They seek solace in their children and they try to be happy at all times. They understand that tough moments don’t define them and they look at life from the brighter side. This attitude is transferred to the children they raise; they also learn to find happiness in everything they do. They are solely responsible for their own happiness. 7. A Chance Of Being A Good Mother Being raised by a strong mother gives most ladies the opportunity of being good mothers too. They know the value of family life and do all they could to make sure their children grow the proper way and with the right doctrines. The men raised by strong mothers also become protective of their children and deposit beautiful traits in them.[b/] [b]Shoutouts to all Mothers all over the World and RIP to those who are gone. |
