There are many ethnic groups that speak Hausa including my Fulani ethnic group, the Bolewas, the Ngas (Hausa is close to their language anyways), the Tangale, the Vute/Bute, the Zarma, etc. and all these mentioned groups are not even Hausa. These groups speak Hausa as a second language but fluently. Yoruba is only spoken for the most part amongst Yoruba people but no other ethnic group speaks it as a 2nd language fluently. Hausa is by far the most spoken language in Nigeria, whether we like it or not.

Why is it the case? Is it due to the "simplicity" of the Hausa people, is it due to the fact that Hausas are very welcoming people and accept others into their Hausawa culture.

Although I'm a Fulani man and not a Hausa, I can vouch for the fact that there are relatives of mine who don't even speak Hausa. However, Hausa is very much a lingua franca in many parts of Nigeria.
