Education › Re: Mass Failure In Nigerian Law School by Anaskie(m): 8:43pm On Oct 21, 2014 |
CoCoLav: The most painful thing is the grading of students by your lowest score. What kind of grading is that? Those criticizing those that failed, you won't understand. How can someone with a 4.3 GPA from university who borrowed the money for his school fees get to law school and play? He finished with a pass! It is totally unacceptable.
Something has to be done. Coco, just leave them. There's no point explaining. Even those who don't know a thing about the law school's system are coming here to talk authoritatively. Its really a pity. |
Education › Re: Since When Did Nigerian Law School Bar Finals Turn Waec? by Anaskie(m): 11:03am On Oct 19, 2014 |
Hmmm. While I perfectly understand d angle u guys are coming from, I must point out that there was something definitely wrong with the system this year. The blame can't go to the students alone.
The law school programme is designed to accomodate little or no social activity. I was in the Lagos campus and it was very, very stressful. From the long hours of lectures to the compulsory group meetings, one has little or no time to engage in frivolities. I'm also sure it was d same in other campuses.
Hence, most students didn't come there to have fun. They had already heard about how difficult the Bar finals was and most of them were willing to put in all efforts to make it.
It is therefore surprising that out of about 6000 students, over 4000 students failed. This mass failure is the first of its kind in the history of the NLS.
The DG assured us that gone are the days anybody could be a lawyer. Imagine such words! It is clear he wasn't bluffing, he made every effort to frustrate the hardwork of students. He reduced the MCQ time from 60 mins to 50 mins without informing us earlier. I only got to find out in the hall!
I also want to point out that majority of those who passed made a 'Pass'. I heard there were only about 300 second class lowers and only 50 second class uppers. The exams weren't that difficult to warrant such gross failure.
Nobody is saying that once u pay the N300,000 fees, u must pass the law skul. Definitely, there must be people who will fail. We are only asking for a review of the results by an impartial body. We need an explanation on how the exams were actually graded.
I made a 2nd class honours, but I still won't say the results were a reflection of people's efforts, because I know they weren't. Thousands of people deserved better than what they actually got. We are only asking for a review. That's all. |

CoCoLav: I like your spirit. People that read more than me had a pass too. I can only be grateful but whats the ceremony in call to bar when you don't have your friends beside you? its sad. I don't even feel like going. I wish I knew what went wrong, peoples hopes were really dashed. This result has made some of my friends become enemies. Its extremely painful. I wonder how Onadeko sleeps at night knowing fully well that he has destroyed thousands of destinies. I heard one guy in my campus even attempted suicide when he got news of his failure. I'm sure many more will still attempt it in the next few days. Many people who failed didn't deserve it at all. Most who had pass definitely deserved better than that. How can a DG be so wicked? Or is this a form of population control to reduce the number of lawyers in the country? My roommate read very well and even prayed harder yet he still failed. In times like dis, I can't help but ask why God allows such things to happen. Something needs to be urgently done about dis result. |

I do dat every nyt to ease d tension. I heard from 5 different dat there was a 65 percent failure rate. My friend in dis April batch said dat d lecturers even told dem in open class. Right from tym they had been saying it dat tinz wld be differnt in our set, I didn't know they actually meant it. Only God know wat we did to Onadeko dat made him so bitter. cupidora: Thank u 4 d compliment n ur ansa too... While having to wait till next year is very difficult to accept especially considering that I passed, graduated,n ve collected my statement of result,a good result @ dat... I'm filled wit questions becos first,d list wasn't pasted,we were nt even allowed to look inside,u'd just go into d office, call ur mat.no n they'd check n tell u if ur name is there or nt n y it isn't ther n dat u needed to submit d missing detail,d list wasn't pasted...well,if nothing is done abt it then it means 90% of those mobilised were so out of luck n not merit n next year pending cases 'd take up d space meant for the recently graduating students 'n cause a big hold-up. The list 'll be pasted on the 17th,I'm being hopeful,my name is there. Thank u again. Hav a nice sunday Ur skul's system is rily unfair. Anyways, have faith, ur name will be there. cupidora: Greetings prospective corp members! I'm a Benue state Uni.graduate awaiting service... Pls,I ve a question, some weeks ago we were asked to go to the Dean of students' affairs office individually to review a list dat we believed to be the mobilisation list, when we got there we realised that most of us who passed and graduated with no hitches our names were omitted from the list for one reason or the other, basically dat our details were nt provided, like jamb reg.no,date of birth,LGA etc. We were asked to submit d details dat were blank. My question is will the problem be rectified and our names be included in d mobilisation list or is it irreversible? Becos as a result of the large number of us involved no one was ready to give us answers or assure us of a rectification of the problem Wow! Ur fine sha. Anyways, as regards ur question, I'm not sure schools are still pasting any oda mobilisation lists...at least judging from my skul. In my school, they pasted anoda list for those who had errors, and when the errors were rectified, they brought out a correction list, showing dat they've been mobilised. As I said earlier, ur rily pretty. Happy Sunday. |
