SportsRe: Juju: Why Can't We Use It To Progress/win In The World Cup? by AndreUweh(m): 11:00pm On Jun 23, 2010
Nigeria can win the world cup with Otumokpu (juju). This can be achieved if they can keep some basic instructions the Dibia will give our players. Such as, they must not eat any food prepared by a woman throughout the the duration of the tournament. Second, they must not bath for 14 days prior to their first match. Third, the supporters club must bury a live cow at the middle of any stadium our boys are going to play.
If instructions as above will be kept, then the trophy will definitely be in Nigeria's kitty.

The Igbo women, just like the Jewish women, are the ones who teach their children Igbo culture. Some of the practices in place are being to taught to Igbo children by their mothers. That women do not plant yam and only men do in Igbo culture are some of the examples, no worries to them.
I will not rule out that the wind of change blowing from the western world to third world countries is not reaching Igboland, especially women emancipation gender equality etc.
Perhaps, in 99 years time, changes would have arrived. At the moment, majority are contented with what they have. For instance, there was a seminar of elite Igbo women organised by Prof C. Acholonu last year at Aba. At that seminar, they tried to explore reasons why men do not allow women to partake in breaking of kola nuts in Igboland.
Shortly, after this conference, there were rejoinders by Igbo women all over the media stations condemning the objectives of the meeting.

@Agbontaen. Why not stay on line and chat with your fellow nairalanders. I personally posed some questions to you the last time you were here. But no replies, only tome back two months later with a repetitive post.
The same questions will keep coming back to you despite your attempts at dodging it. There was an Iri ji festival in of Igbo Youths in London and a very proud IkaIgbo monarch, traveled all the way from Nigeria to grace the occasion. On that day, he was the royal father of the festival. What does that teach you?.

agbotaen:
NO  TRUE IKA  PERSON ,WANTS TO BE CALLED  A BINI MAN OR AN  IGBO MAN , THE  POINT IS THAT WE ARE IKAS, WE HAVE NEVER DENIED OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH IGBO OR OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH BENIN .THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BENIN AND IKA HAS EXISTED FOR HUNDRED OF YEARS ,IF NOT  MORE , SOME TIMES THEY FIGHT WAR ,AGAINST EACH  OTHER AND  AT TIMES THEY ARE AT PEACE,IKA AND BENIN SHARE MANY SIMILARITIES AND TIES OF BROTHERHOOD.JUST AS WE ALSO SHARE WITH IGBOS  IN SOME ASPECTS , I  WILL LIST  SOME .
1. THERE ARE STILL SOME CHIEFTHANCY TITLES IN AGBOR TODAY, THAT IF YOU WANT TO TAKE , YOU MUST STILL GO  TO BENIN AND GET SACRED CHALKS FROM ELDERS IN THE BENIN COMMUNITIY ,THEN IF THEY GIVE YOU THE NOD , THEN YOU GET THE TITLE IN AGBOR, THE REASON IS THAT THE PEOPLE OF THAT COMMUNITY IN AGBOR  MIGRATED FROM THAT VILLAGE IN BENIN.
2. ANOTHER AREA OF RELATIONSHIP THAT TIES IKA AND BENIN IS OBISHIP ( KINGSHIP) ,IKA KINGS ARE CROWNED IN THE BENIN USELU  SYSTEM AND THAT STILL STRONGLY TIES BENIN AND AGBOR OR IKA TOGETHER AS RELATIVES.
3. CHIEFTHANCY STRUCTURE AND NAMES - IKA CHIEFTHANCY IS PATTERNED AFTER BENIN THREE STRUCTURE OF  PALACE, TOWN AND HEREDITORY TITLES,THAT GOES UNDER BENIN NAMES LIKE OLIHEN,OVIA,OBASEKI,IHONDON,OLOGBOSHERE,OZOMOR ,IYASE AND OTHERS.
4. THE PRESENT MONARCH OF AGBOR -DEIN OF AGBOR IS SAME BLOOD LINE FAMILY WITH THE PRESENT OBA OF BENIN,AND THERE IS STILL A TABOO,WHICH PROHIBITS ANY AGBOR ROYAL PRINCE FROM MARRYING A BENIN ROYAL PRINCESS.THIS WAS EVIDENT IN THE ROLE PLAYED BY THE OBA IN THE CROWNING OF THE PRESENT KING  OF AGBOR -KIAGBOREKUZI , AND THE TRAINNING HE SUBSEQUENTLY RECEIVED IN THE BENIN ROYAL PALACE.
5. TRADITIONAL RELIGION BINDS BENIN AND IKA TOGETHER AS IN THE PAST THEY WORSHIPPED MOSTLY SAME DEITIES AND PERFORMED SAME CEREMONIES TOGETHER  LIKE IDIGUN, IKABA,IGBOSE,IGUE,IRUA,OVIA, AKE ,OHUMWEEDEN AND THEY BOTH PERFORMED IGUE FESTIVAL TOGETHER IN TIME PAST,AND UP TILL TODAY IGUE IS STILL THE MOST FAMOUS FESTIVAL  OF IKA PEOPLE AND BINIS.
6. BENIN AND IKA HAD MANY SIMILAR CULTURES IN MARRIAGE, SHARING OF PROPERTIES,WAY OF LIFE AND STRUCTURE OF VILLAGE AND TOWNS -EBON(UMU),IDUMU AND OGBE,
7. THE BINIS AND IKAS SHARED SAME TRIBAL MARKS CALLED IGU IN IKA AND CALLED IWU IN BENIN .
8.  THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BENIN AND IKAS ARE STILL VERY CLOSE AND EVEN THE BENIN OBA AND CHIEFS STILL COME TO IKA LAND TO SOME TIMES SHARE IN EXCHANGE OF RITUALS AND OTHERS THINGS , MANY IKAS STILL LEAVE IN BENIN TERRITORY AND THEY ARE NOT HARRASSED BUT ARE INTERGRATED INTO THE SCHEME OF THINGS WHILE WE ALSO HAVE MANY BINIS LEAVING IN IKA LAND TOO.
IF YOU VISIT ANY BENIN WEBSITE TILL TODAY , YOU WILL STILL SEE THAT THEY LIST  IKAS AS BINI RELATED PEOPLE.
9. IKA PEOPLE ALSO SHARE SAME NAMES WITH THE BINIS SUCH AS EHIJIE,OSAGIE,OBAIGBENA,OSABOHIEN,OSAIGBOBU, IZOJIE,ISIBOR  ,IRABOR, E.T.C
10.  THE BINIS AND IKAS CALLED GOD- OSENOBUE,OSELOBUE ,OSANOBUWA  ,AND BELIEVE IN EHI AS GUARDIAN SPIRIT.
11. THERE ARE STILL TODAY ,SOME COMMUNITIES IN IKA LAND , THAT SPEAK AN EDOIC LANGUAGE CALLED OZARRA IN AGBOR  AND THEY ARE IKAS
HAVING SAID THIS WE ALSO HAVE SOME COMMON CULTURE WITH THE IGBOS ,LIKE .
1. AREA OF HAVING IKENGA DEITIES ,AND PERFORMING THE IWAGI( NEW-YAM) FESTIVAL, ALTHOUGH IKAS HAVE A DIFFERENT WAY OF DOING THEIR IWAGI OR OGBANIGBE.
2.WE ALSO SHARE LANGUAGE SIMILARITY  AS  IKA LANGUAGE ITSELF CONTAINS MANY IGBO WORDS ,SO THE LANGUAGE SHOWS A BROTHERLY LINK ,BETWEEN IKAS AND IGBOS .ALTHOUGH IKA LANGUAGE ALSO CONTAINS WORDS AND STRUCTURES THAT ARE NOT IGBO .
3.  IKA PEOPLE ALSO BEAR MANY IGBO NAMES LIKE CHUKUEMEKE, ISIOMA, NDUKA, EBELE ,CHIBUZOR  E.T.C
BUT AS IKA PEOPLE,WE HAVE COME TO KNOW THAT THE OLDEST THINGS IN OUR COMMUNITIES ARE THOSE LINKED TO BENIN.BUT HAVING SAID ALL THIS , WHAT THUS  IT  MEAN ,TO US, WE ARE IKAS AND WE WILL LIKE TO  MAINTAIN OUR IDENTITY ,NO MAN OUTSIDE IKA LAND CAN TELL US WHO  WE ARE ,SO AS IKAS WE KNOW WHO WE ARE WE  ARE IKAS.IKAS HAVE NEVER SAID THEY WANT TO BE CALLED BINIS,NEITHER HAVE WE SAID WE WANT TO BE CALLED IGBOS, BUT WE SHOULD BE RESPECTED AS IKAS.A DIFFERENT ETHNIC GROUP.

What a load of rubbish. Repetition all the time.
Why not come on line and chat with Nairalanders interested in culture. My guy, this is a chat forum, not where you post same article over and over. Does that not bore you?. It is very boring indeed.
My humble advice to you is to quit using we and use I. Your opinion will never represent the beliefs of Ika people who are Igbo.
You are very advantaged to use the Dept of Igbo language at The college of Education Agbor to improve your Igbo communication skills rather than posting the same crap all the time.
Personally, you may be of Binin ancestry as  your name suggest-Agbontaen or is Omigie?.
You should devote your time to harnessing a united Igbo force that will usurp power from those that have ruled the Igbo people of Delta state since 1991.

so what if a woman does leave her home after "the cock has gone to roost"? does she get punished?[/quote]Sometimes it does not get reported. But if reported to umunna, dates are fixed for hearing, and if found guilty, a penalty is awarded against the culprit.
During my visit to my local community over the easter period, one certain man reported his wife of all ways going out in the night to watch home videos. A date was fixed for the hearing. But before the hearing, I had gone back to my base.
You have reminded me, I have to follow up the proceedings from abroad. Oh my home Igboland, there is no place like you.

Nonsense, how can Ohaneze be more powerful than the Government.

They cant even be compared to serious groups like Arewa and Afenifere.

Who even does what they say? How many students in Universities in the East know who the officers of Ohaneze are? You'll be surprised that many of them are tuning into African Magic Yoruba station as we speak.

Igbo people arent the President, nor the Vice, nor Senate President, nor Speaker, nor Secretary to The Federation, but party chairman, and as we have seen with the 500 senate presidents we produced under OBJ, already have a second Chairman and counting, whereas the other positions (minus Pres) are the same.

Someone said that Igbo people are cowards, no, they simply are interested in other things other than group solidarity and fighting collectively for anything. No international airport in their place, no world class city in their zone, no major university or tourist attraction in their zone. And like other groups, they for the most part, have been NIGERIANIZED
Men's dept or whatever useless name you hide under here. You should go and screw your self for chatting crap. What makes an unpalatable troll as you think that Igbo people do not know about Ohanaeze. At the same time, a sad-a.s.s like you feels others know about Arewa and Afenefere. Do a bit of research before typing bullock. Get a life, jobless I.D.I.O.T.

ChinenyeN:
Wait, I think I know where I'm getting confused, now. You're using "recognition" and "status" synonymously, and I understand the two to be different, but related things. You seem to want to talk about status though, and not recognition, in particular, because from what I know, at least the Igbo society that I'm familiar with, women do receive lots of recognition. So, I would think that that ought not be your issue. So now, if you could help me out though on one little thing, do elaborate more on what you mean by "full recognition". Is it just titles that you are talking about or is there more to it?
There is more to it. For example, for a woman to be married, is for her to climb the first ladder to social recognition. People say about her such as 'okwa nwunye mmadu' (she is somebody's wife when one is about to or make an unwholesome remark about her.

Igbo women are good in handicrafts. They knit mats . They manufacture soap and cosmetics such as ude aku (palm oil cream), uli etc.
They weave textile materials such as 'Akwete'. Am sure Chinenye is very conversant with Akwete. They are manufactured somewhere not far from your town.

Igbo women are good traders. They trade mainly on food items-cassava, fish, differenttypes of spices, vegetables.
They are good potters. They produce different types of pots for cooking and storage of water. They produce musical instruments such as 'udu'.

Igbo women like their male counterpart, are traditionally very industrious. They are versatile in farming, trade and handicrafts. The main crops cultivated by women are cocoyam, rice, cassava, vegetables, beans. They plant plantain and and banana stems. They process oil palm nuts for palm oil, crack the nuts for kernel which they use for cosmetics, some are sold for cash; but it is an abomination for women to climb palm trees in Alaigbo.

Marriage confers on Igbo woman so many privileges which an unmarried woman would not get. It enables her to belong to many societies like women cultural dancing group. This is exclusively to married women, association of all married women within a family etc. There is so much social recognition but I do not intend to dwell on that here.
Igbo women are women of substance and it is an abomination and outright stupidity to beg any non Igo woman to become Igbo. I am inviting you to come and discuss social status of this unique women.
It is interesting to note that some of the associations and classified social set up are used to mobilise women at grassroots level. For administrative purposes, through such organisations, decisions pertaining to women at family (umunna) or village meetings are conveyed to them through any of the mentioned associations. Igbo women, may God bless you all.
