I know for a fact that Bartholomew Ogbeche was labour prefect of FGC Okigwe in 1996.

If he was 17/18 at the time, that makes him 30/31 now, although he's claiming 25.
Not accepted as you do not have a first hand evidence. What makes you feel the informant has not lied to you?. Moreover, the girl doesn't know footie and might not have known Ogbeche very well.
Having said that, if by your maths, he is 31, fair enough, compared to 41 or thereabout being quoted by some fellows.

Dear Dr Andre, the posts have been so revealing , i never knew ezechima whom Emeagwali often talked about was an igbo man . however after sharing with us about the past of igbos dont fail to tell us about the future of igbos in nigeria , africa and the world , the place of igbos in the world in 2050,

with the recent happenings in the land of the igbos some people need to go back to the drawing board and replot the graphs
Kettykings, thanks for your observation. History is there to guard us to the future. For you to know a child, there is the need to know the parents. All may not be well now for Ndigbo, but the future is very bright.
With cessation of hostilities in 1970, the enemies of Ndigbo came up with a plan to redo this and that but that has not happened. But Ndigbo have been brave enough to rebuild Igboland on there own accord. If you consider, what was left of Igboland in 1970 and now, surely you will praise-worship Ndigbo. There are so many instances but let us look at Onitsha. This city was reduced to zero during the Nigerian crisis, but Onitsha has witnessed a faster growth than other cities that never experienced war.

1. may be yes, in the past, Nri had ritual functions to perform in the coronation of Obas of Benin.
2. Ikas speak Igbo because they are Igbo people. The expansion of Benin established mostly a Bini style of hierachy. There is no evidence to show that Ikas hired Igbo teachers to teach them Igbo language.
3. No, as there is no evidence to suggest so.
4. No, THOUGH one Igbo town-Ubulu Ukwu is claimed to have been founded by one Ezemu from Ife. But the people of this town are very proud Igbo people.
5. All Igbo are linked to Nri in terms of commerce and industry.
6. Igbo denials are from Ika, Ukwuani and Ikwerre areas. But they are in minority. I do not know where you got the figure up to 60 percent.
7. Igbo eze.
8. To the best of my knowledge, Isuama is most parts of Owerri, Mbaise uptill Okigwe- Orlu areas.

006:
I don't think it's a problem or risk to life. It's a culture in Nigeria, so I feel it shouldn't be discontinued.
Indeed, it is a culture in Nigeria. It is unique among other systems in which communication is made in the sense that it is used in the entertainment where cheerful ceremonies are being performed and places of mourning in terms of signal that an important person is dead.

ChinenyeN:
Andre, I used to think well of you, but now, you're no longer any different from your pan-Igbo peers here on NL; attacking anyone who asks a simple question. I'll answer your question by stating that what you're referring to (that Wiki page), is actually a list of ethnic affiliations and not a list of linguistic affiliations.

Now, what of your defense for why that NG list is supposedly accurate?
I do not loose sleep over what you or any one thinks of me here on nairaland. There is nothing wrong in letting you know that you have displayed a bad attitude. It is not a good attitude to answer a question asked to another person. To you it does not matter, but what matters to someone else may not matter to you.
CultureRe: Gun Salute: Should It Be Abolished?. by AndreUweh(op): 6:10pm On Jul 03, 2010
In Nigeria, gun salute is widely accepted both in the villages and towns, the military etc. Gun shooting makes a lot of noise especially Nkpo ala or nkponala. Should we condemn or stop gun salutes or reduce its frequency?.
CultureGun Salute: Should It Be Abolished?. by AndreUweh(op): 6:05pm On Jul 03, 2010
I know that when we talk of communication or message, it is telephone, letter writing, e-mail, gong in terms of town crying, whistle, cymbal etc. These various ways mentioned are all communication signals between one person and the other. Gun salute purely falls in with any of these signals. However, there have been talk of abolishing it in Igboland or in Nigeria generally. Should it be abolished?.

huh Ekiti is a regional language. A yoruba dialect.
Thanks for testifying. Yet, when languages are listed in Nigeria, Ekiti, Ijebu, Owoh etc are not listed as languages. But at the same time, those who draw up the list of languages in Nigeria will term Igbo dialects as languages for example Ukwuani, Ikwerre etc. Is that not nonsensical?.
CultureRe: The 250+ Tribes/ethnic Groups In Nigeria by AndreUweh(m): 5:16pm On Jul 03, 2010

Andre, mind telling us why exactly the NG (questionable source) list is accurate? (tell us, in your own words, please)

If you'd rather not try to defend your assertion, or if you'd rather not try to defend such a questionable source, then simply state that you'd prefer not to. Thank You.
I did reply to Cedlink post and not ChinenyeN's post. But since you have decided to play the character of of Cedlink here, then you have to answer the question I asked him. In case you did not read through the question, it is, 'why is Owo, Ekiti, Ijebu and Offa not classified as languages; yet Ikwerre is or Aro is termed as languages?.

The following link lists more ethnic groups in Nigeria. But I think the list is incomplete since I know a few not listed there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Ethnic_groups_in_Nigeria

I would make a list and post back here.
What a load of rubbish. Which Nigeria govt classified Aro as an rthnic group?. What a silly post. The writer of that wikipedia is so silly to classify Aro, Ikwere and other Igbo groups and yet failed to classify Owo, Ondo, Ijebu, Offa as ethnic groups.
066 has helped us here by providing a link from the govt which accurately list Nigerian ethnic group. Nothing can be better than that.

Please clarify.
Yes or No. You know everything about the Ijebus. It's a straight unambiguous question so it requires an unambiguous answer.

Here's the question again:

If there is a problem between the Ijebu and the rest of the Yoruba ethnic group and the Ijebus quit any meeting, conferences, etc involving Yorubas and declare an Ijebu ethnic group separate from Yoruba.
You as an administrator in charge of national data in Nigeria, would you grant their request?
It will be an outright stupidity to do so.
PoliticsRe: Another Oba Deposed In Ondo by AndreUweh(m): 10:55pm On Jun 30, 2010
As govt does not want traditional rulers to be involved in politics, so the govt should not be involved in traditional institution affairs. It is unacceptable for the govt to be usurping the powers of the monarchs from one to another. This institutions were there before the govt and there is no point in trying to dismantle it. Something has to be done quickly before this madness rears its ugly head in another town.

I cant really place a figure but i think 2million naira (excluding Sunny Ade's perfomance fee grin grin grin grin) should be enough for a decent and modest traditional wedding.

It depends really on what the couple wants/what the family wants. . . .

some families will prefer a low key wedding. will some will want it done in an extravagant way.

However, i think number 1 (introduction) should not cost too much. This is because it is more like hosting a 'house party' for 20 people.

Number 2 (engagement) might be a little pricey . . . . depending on the venue. Costs of good halls in lagos are high but if it is going to be held at the bride's parents place, then that cost is out of the picture.

I think it is the wedding reception that gulps the highest sum of money
Not only the Igbo can be insulted for selling their daughters. I think all the southern Nigerian groups do the same thing.

You’re welcome.
Don’t mind those goons that pull out facts from their a.s.s and make things up to satisfy their imaginations; arguing like imbeciles.
I am yet to understand how they multiplied 36 to arrive at 250.
The funniest part of it all is, while some Igbo groups were listed as separate entities, the Yoruba groups of Ijebu, Owo, offa etc were not listed separately. Even the seven groups whom the Hausas referred as bastard groups were still classified as Hausa. The Igbo was the most targeted. Some of them bought the idea sheepishly and began to use moonlight stories to support their separation from the mega body. Imagine, one of them came to the nairaland with a list of titles of palm-wine tappers etc that has resemblance with Bini titles to justify his claim. What a shame.

you are drawing us back by mentioning qualities of an ethnic group.ok what are the qualities that makes one distinct?remember you might personally feel distinct but to others you have no differences.for example in ngwaland,an osisioma man whose area is highly urbanised might feel distinct from isialangwa man whose area is rather backward and highly into crime, does that make them any different?ngwa is ngwa so is igbo igbo.even though the ngwas have continued to tarnish the image of the igbo nation,i have never seen any igbo man coming out to disclaim them because we are all igbos.same goes with every part of igboland.

there is an nri legend that tells of a traveller known as ezechime who went to benin as a high priest and later had problems with benin oba.after which he escaped with his family and migrated back towards the east trying to locate nri but could not.it is yet to be ascertained if he is thesame ezechime believed to have founded most onichas.
The above quote is very interesting. It is an established fact that Ezechime, Ezechima or Chima is an Igboman.
Recent researches on Onitsha has established a fact that Benin expansion and campaings eastwards were a matter of some demographic consequence for the Igbo, leading to a recoil of the population that was hitherto expanding westwards. The Onitsha were just elements of this Igbo population thrown back eastwards by Benin expansion.
