Amanda Gorman made history on Wednesday January 20, as the youngest poet in US history to read a poem at a presidential inauguration, IgbereTV reports.
The 22-year-old read a powerful poem at the inauguration of US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Los Angeles native reportedly finished writing the poem, titled "The Hill We Climb," on the night of January 6, hours after rioters took part in a siege on Capitol Hill.
Gorman opened her poem Wednesday by saying:
"We braved the belly of the beast."
"We've learned that quiet isn't always peace and the norms and notions of what just is, isn't always justice. And yet the dawn is hours before we knew it, somehow we do it, somehow we’ve weathered and witnessed a nation that isn't broken but simply unfinished."
"We, the successors of a country and a time, where a skinny black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president, only to find herself reciting for one."
"And yes, we are far from polished, far from pristine, but that doesn't mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect," she said. "We are striving to forge our union with purpose, to compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters and conditions of man."
"And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us but what stands before us. We close the divide because we know to put our future first. We must first put our differences aside."
Gorman follows in the footsteps of esteemed poets like Maya Angelou and Robert Frost in reading a poem at a presidential inauguration.
Gorman received praises for her poem from the likes of Lin Manuel Miranda, Hillary Clinton, and Oprah Winfrey.

Boulos, who is heir to the multi-billion dollar Nigerian conglomerate Boulos Enterprises, flew to Dubai with Halimeh to choose the ring, which he selected and purchased in the city.

Abdulazeez99: Musician Seun Kuti has revealed he will be registering the Movement of The People (MOP) as a political party, Igbere TV reports.
The 38-year-old shared a picture of an official letter written to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to demand the requirements for registration in an Instagram post on Thursday.
Movement of The People was his father Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s political party.
Seun revived the party in November 2020.
“The idea is that we liberate the Nigerian people, they might be on this table, but I want to guarantee you that this movement will be the movement to cultivate those minds, those ideas. The pan Africanist and socialist foundation,” Seun said.

A Benue driver identified as Emmanuel Oga and his pregnant second wife were reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Reports.
Oga's friend, Testimony Joel Odeh, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, said it happened at Ogere, in the Remo area of Ogun State, off the Lagos-Ibadan highway.
It was gathered that the gunmen opened fire on the vehicle and then shot Oga and his wife, who was sitting in the front seat with him.
According to Mr Odeh, after killing the couple, the gunmen allegedly told the passengers in the vehicle that they only wanted the couple.
The remains of the couple have been deposited at the Sagamu General Hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, some suspects have been reportedly arrested by Ogere Police Division in connection with the killings.

I learnt that investigation is in progress by the Ogere police command and Ogun state police force.
I wept again. This is one of my long time friend. We called each other on the 4th of this January while he was going to Benue. This one weak me. Am heart broken again. But why?
