While some people are delayed, some are also treated quite fast in line with @TOPEADE'S post submitted on June 3rd, got texts and emails on june 13th its ready, picked up today with the visas. Got text june 3rd evening application was forwarded to SA high commission for processing so it was processed in 5 working days or 6 at most if you count the day i submitted Submitted similar documents to TOPEADE except pension and had a lil more funds in the account. So just saying its not all cases that get delayed as seems to be the consensus this days Regards |
I agree with you to some extent and while also share the sentiment the news is neither good or bad, it highlights some key facts such as 1. most banned goods are now imported through neighbouring countries and smuggled into nigeria. 2. ports of most neighbouring countries have now seen increased activity. 3. Nig govt is losing revenue from import duties on this goods however its not all gloom and doom since the pressure on dollar has reduced and the corrupt elements now source for those dollars elsewhere. I dont think much has changed really olajide8: |
Half truth is also a lie -- Femi said he will not support APC or PDP - and more like telling VP that the event was an open forum for nigerians and not a political platform of any party but all individuals are welcome #stopfakenews |
Exactly what happens, no magic here. Just quick hand tricks. They never let you count it. They count it in front of you and you confirm with them visually. Once they give you the cash they begin to hurry you up saying things like where you guys are is not safe and police could carry all of you just so you give them they currency and they bolt without you verifying. Once you arrive your destination then amount is reduced and you assume magic. if you ever insist on counting yourself, they will quiclly tell you people are coming and to bring the naira they just gave you and bolt. I think am slightly confused by the story From experiences you don't pick your bags till after immigration unless something major is flagged in your bags then your taking to secondary inspection and thoroughly checked and questioned Am not sure scans will flag weaves in a bag and the quick question at immigration won't have asked about the weaves without her having her bags If bags are flagged after she has been stamped in - then that would probably be a fine / confiscating the items So am not really understanding how the immigration knew what was in her bags and linked it to her interview without a full second inspection My thoughts and I could be wrong |
If the statement by the school is true that this incident happened last year then i feel the accusations thrown at the lady on social media might not be fair (about her being dumb, lazy, wanting a way out, refused only because it was 5 times the prof asked for etc) My thought process goes thus but i could be wrong 1. The lady failed the course and as a final year student, she went to see the prof to see if he could assist with a waiver (this is commonly practised in most higher institutions in nigeria, wehn a final year student fails just a course and the senate seats to let them go). there is nothing unbecoming by this act from her 2. she was probably preositioned at that very first meeting and the prof was probably ready to start is defiling spree there and then but as luck would have it she was on her period (as mentioned in the conversation) 3. after narrowly escaping the rape on the first occassion, she probably confided in someone even anonymously that what do you do if your prof wants to sleep with you before you pass (she must have got the response any sane person will offer which is to go and pray and not rreport him otherwise you will grow old in that school and never graduate esp since you have no proof and its your word against his.) 4. this conversation mmust have led her to try and get proof in the recorded conversation which she subtly ended with she cant do it five times and will carry the course (i also feel she would have rejected his offer even if it was once) 5. finally she kept her proof cos of social media judgements like the one people have been making about her being "oloso" or prostitute or any other derogatory word, resat her course with pride, graduated and the released the recording to shed light on the monster OAU is breeding Like i said, i could be wrong and the social media is right (my assumptions are obviously based on the fact the incident happened lasy year and she has already resat the course and graduated now) but this is what i think in light of the new revelations by the school IamHeWrites: |
justwise:Sure thing however both questions i replied were directed at the house somewhat and not at the VO's specifically like is normaly the case and one seemed rather urgent but point noted all the same |
Finelinks:I cant recall the name of the drugs itself but it was a tripple drug regiment (morning and night) but i know it was a cocktail of antibiotics and antacids you can find more info here https://www.mims.co.uk/combination-regimens-eradication-h-pylori-nice-guideline/gi-tract/article/882106 I just did as my gp recommended back then and took the drugs religiously "H. pylori treatment usually includes several medicines. At least two of the medicines are antibiotics that help to kill the bacteria. The other medication causes the stomach to make less acid; lower acid levels help the ulcer to heal. Most people are cured after finishing one to two weeks of medicine." Hope this helps |
Hi, I hope this helps you guys somehow - so I was diagnosed or should I say mis-diagnosed with stress ulcer as an undergraduate and given the usual dos and donts of no peppery stuff bla bla And milk of magnesia treatments. I actually resolved to manage my condition and had milk and biscuits or something to chew by my bed side in preparation for the excruciating pain that wakes me up every night however when the milk and palliatives stopped working, my fiancée advised I see a doctor. I saw my gp and explained to him and after the normal tommy pressing he recommended a blood test to check for antibodies of helicobacter pylori. This bug is common in most adults but remains dormant in most cases and in the few cases it’s active we experience the kind of pain you described. The good news is there is a cure and it does not involve surgery but a powerful cocktail of drugs. This drugs can make you feel useless for the week but when you remember what your taking it for, it’s worth it. The downside is that you must complete the dose usually for a 5/7 day period otherwise the bug can become active again and then a different cocktail of drugs is needed. I started feeling better after 3 days but I had been warned sternly to finish the dose and had read some literature instructing Same. My recommendation is to do a blood test and let them confirm the presence of antibodies for the helicobacter virus and of positive then a dosage of the 5 day cocktail should work . P.s :this was a personal experience and I finished the cocktail about aug/sept 2013 with no pain whatsoever related to ulcer since then from someone who has pains daily from 2006/7 Hope this helps and you can reach me for more info if needed Regards Finelinks: |
I am neither for the Discos or the Consumers, just want to clear up some mis-information with accurate info i have access every now and then via my job. 1. The current tariff is not cost reflective for investment by the discos on critcal infrastructure neededfor upgrades (this infrastructure are meters, transformers, feeders and maintenance equipment etc) 2. The Discos do not have access to loans from banks or investors because they are deep in the Red with their books and the current model being operated makes no sense for any normal business man to invest in so they only get funds from agencys/govt to keep the industry running 3. No disco/genco has declared profit for a month since inception (this icould be either due to bad management or huge losses) 4. A huge amount of investment is required like "9jakhoai" mentioned but it also not meant to come from the public (this is because the time it will take to pull public funds together to invest will make the system collapse so what is obtainable world wide is loans and then you service the loans from the public funds you obtain - however since nobody will grant the discos loan cos of their dire situation, then the public funds become ever so critical) 5. discos still give out estimated bills to metered customers (old analog metered customers) 6. Targets exist but his is because energy theft is beyond normal comprehension in the country and a marketer is told we supplied 2 million worth of energy to your transformer which is true by the way but half of the people in that community are "consumers" not "customers" so the marketer has to share the bill as estimated to the customers and then people complain. 7. A state of emergency needs to be declared in the power sector not to revisit privatisation but to let privatisation work in the true sense, just the way it was done with fuel subsidy - If discos cant charge a fair price for power and we want uninterrupted power or even stable power then we have a problem 8. the only thing that can drive prices down is competition (which happened with gsm) and cheaper operating conditions (when raw materials are produced locally instead of imported). the discos original licence will expire next year then we can see what governments next move will be! I hope this points help direct some of the beautiful arguments have read this morning with a lot of people assuming "9ja" guy is crazy or a disco/genco worker but he does have some salient and valid points and so do others here. My motive was simply to enlighten people on what some of the root causes of our energy problems are. P.s : I dont think naija can do nuclear cos we are to emotional and unstable and some upset people might decide to make a stand by attempting to blow up such infrastructure 2. to develop a nuclear program requires consent from G8 countries and other western powers who will never grant us such at this time and if we insist, they will direct heavy sanctions at us among other reasons WrathOfHadez: |

Hello Nigerians/Nairalanders I have been away in silent mode for a while but something caught my attention deeply enough to draw me back from the group of silent observers to share with you again. I wont bore you with too much plesantries and go straight into thr crux of the matter. Sometimes last week i got a call in the office from a "indian" lady who told me they were conducting a market survey for ******* Bank and would like to know if i could spare 5 minutes for the anonymous survey. i was unfortunately very busy at the time so i asked her to call back next week (ie this week) thinking she wold simply move on to other callers and i forgot about the whole issue. To my suprise i got a call before 8am today and the person repeated the same lines about the survey and again it was an "indian" lady though i cant be sure if its the same person or not. After the call ended, it got me thinking as to what just happened and i was so pained when it dawned on me few minutes later i had to share the following observations with possible like minds to know if am over thinking it or things are not as bad as they appeared to me. My observations: 1. An indian called me with a nigerian number (both times) to conduct a market survey in nigeria for a nigeria bank. 2. There was the brief pause of few seconds between my response and her response to tell me it was an international call routed through a nigerian number. I lived abroad long enough to know most of the call center and market survey jobs were been outsourced to India and we often joked about it at work back then about the accent and difficulty in understanding but am suprised nigeria has now degenerated to the point where our peopole are no longer even good for contract staff but now they are taking the jobs completely overseas 3. Has our governemnt completely let us down up to the point where minor jobs which high school leaers or even university students could undertake for stipends been farmed out offshore to countries like india who have the labour ( i read sometime ago about certain companies taking nigerian jobs offshore and remotely operating from overseas with little or skeletal staff left here in nigeria) 4. As a nigerian we understand different types of english however bad or weird it sounds so i could make out what she was trying to say however she could not understand me properly and am not suprised since the indian expartriates in my company also have a hard time understanding phone conversations and often need interpretation . Finally after the call, i came to the conclusion that we could simply make a statement in support of our brothers/sisters who might need such a job to support or boost themselves preventing this rape of our economy since our goverment wont help us by saying politely "Am sorry I cant understand your english, could you please ask a Nigerian to call Back! " or whatever you think might work but please be polite. Am sure if we repeat this enough times, the company that hired them might rethink the outsourcing of this job to foreigners when there are millions of unemployed persons here at home. And no matter how long the company tries to cover up this fact eventually it will get out. We are only as strong as our collective actions Now i know this might rob some people wrong (along the racist lines/bigotry etc) but at what point do we simply say enough is enough and start helping ourselves. A foreign colleague told me he does not buy stuff from china cos it damages his home economy and we were talking about common umbrellas . It was a conscious decision he made even though he his not at home, he still thinks to protect his country and economy. why cant we do the same! Lets be patriotic, lets support our own, lets be Nigerians in whatever way we can! God bless you all #foodforthought N.B: I did not do the market survey |

At sagamite; i appreciate your input but i must implore you to please refrain from attacking other contributors verbally or otherwise (that is referred to as cyber bullying) . I would be very greatful if you don't scare away potential contributors with your harsh rhetorics, everyone is entitled to their opinion just like you and i don't want this thread to be diverted from its main purpose. Thanks for your understanding |
Thanks to everyone so far for your candid opinion. cant express how grateful i am that so many people will take the time from their busy schedule to offer advise to a stranger. To shed a bit more light on the matter, i will try and answer most of the issues raised that her skewing decisions to either come back or stay back. 1. I do not have to be in the USA physically to obtain my residency papers when the time comes. 2. I have had a little experience with offers to people in nigeria from abroad or within: I was offered a position in 1 of the audit companies in Nigeria few years back after just after obtaining my MSc from the UK and the pay was about 150k before Tax. I was also offered a position with an oil servicing firm in Nigeria and the pay was 103k exactly before Tax (I was shocked). 3.Irrespective of any additional benefits to the package, I will not be paying for rent, electricity or any other bills related to such for at least a year or till i decide to get my own place. i will also be staying on the island 4. i do have a car so i wont need to buy a car irrespective of if a vehicle is provided for me or not 5. I do not consider the basic pay or the added benefits a major deciding factor though it does play a role i must admit cos as many of you have right fully pointed out, i CAN obviously get better pay (operative word being CAN which guarantees nothing). 6. There is no doubt that there are multiple opportunities in the USA but i assure you its not as automatic/direct as some of you have painted it to be and comparing the pay abroad to the pay in Nigeria is a little skewed ( companies will most often offer renumeration based on the market forces in their operating country unless they operate as an international entity and structure their pay as such. while that occasionally happens and we all know a few people that fall into that lucky bracket in Nigeria, it is not the norm.) 7. I also have 6months left from a 24 month program as i dint start from scratch (and not 6 months left from a 4 year program) though that does not really change anything. 8. if the offer was for 1 million/ month and i had a year left, i would still try to do everything i can to find a way to finish or run a distant learning program or something along those lines. (needless to say my first instinct is never to jump ship or abandon what i started) 9. I am also not particularly excited about parking my life into a box and moving thousands of miles 10. A particular selling point about the position (In Nigeria) for me is the fact that its a specialist engineering position and not me cross carpeting (ie an engineer taking a banking position or a pharmacist working in a telecoms company. i am not saying there is anything wrong with that nor am i belittling decisions made by others, just an observation) 11. A particular selling point about staying back in the US is the life i have come accustomed to and the fact most things work the way they should and the future opportunities possible After all said and done id like to think "Fortune favors the Bold" thanks again for all your inputs from the depth of my heart and look forward to reading more opinions as i navigate this corner of my future. P.s (i am a christian for those that asked and i have made it so far only cause of him, so he his always first in all decisions) |
SaiBuharii:Thanks maybe i was not clear enough in my original post and its my fault. The monthly offer after tax is not 250 (that was just a bench mark) but thanks for your input |
debbie:Yes i do have a strong desire to come back and settle down in nigeria if the opportunity presents itself however i also have STRONG fears about what direction we are heading with the economy. I have lived in several countries and trust me when i say its not the same thing... dont get me wrong about these countries, they have great perks but it just feels like something is missing sometimes...... but thanks again for your input, appreciated |
Spidermon:Thanks but no thanks, i leave the gambling to the casinos when i visit on weekends |
MarvellousGod:Thanks for your input. I am working in some capacity but once am done with my present program in 6 months, i would be seeking other employment unless i chose to stay back with the research (which is a no no). Getting a job everywhere is hard and by no means automatic. several of my friends and people i know just recently lost jobs and this are people with considerable experience over here. The good news is they are able to find something else within a few weeks or months but not the same for people relatively new. I do have ties in Nigeria (a fiancee) but that does not affect my decision hugely ( plans were already in motion and almost concluded to relocate her over here before the offer came in). Yes the economy is a real concern... |
Hello Everyone Let me start by saying this is not an opportunity to judge or criticize my decisions or lack of it there of. I would also try to be as open and forthcoming as possible regarding all information to help you offer any opinions either from personal experience of inferred ideas. I already have a direction am inclined to lean towards but its not set in stone and am very much open to ideas from others (I actually welcome it as i like to be thorough and get all the information i can have before making decisions) I was recently offered a position in Nigeria due to start in a month at the latest however i am currently rounding off a research program in the united states (6 months to finish). The prospective employer will not defer the position till i finish in 6 months time. I had interviews with the vice president of the company when i was in Nigeria last year and a couple of other interviews but i guess due to the instability of the economy (elections and all), the offer never materialized till now. i consider the offer a place to start and while I cant be specific about the exact figure here, its upwards of 250k/month after Tax. Before you make your decisions based on the offer or my current academic situation, here is a little about me. I have a BSc (Nigeria), MSc (Uk) and MEng (USA).... All in engineering (so i wont consider the figure impressive however its not an entry position and that is my basic pay so there are other benefits). i have paid work experience in the Uk and US and took up an unpaid work experience in an Oil & gas servicing company in Nigeria for about 6 months. needless to say i am well educated but without enough experience in my chosen field and this offer hopes to fill that void. if you also want to ask why am i not eager to come back to Nigeria? the economy seems fairly unstable now, Iran deal is sure to devastate the oil sector further and destabilize the Nigerian economy even more for those that understand the vicissitudes of the Iran deal. I do have access to getting residency papers in the USA which will coincide with the time i finish my research or a few months after without doing anything shady or sinister (most of my family are here anyway). I am also fully aware that with or without papers, jobs are not automatic any where but you will agree with me that its a little easier abroad than in Nigeria. a good example is the current offer i am considering where i still needed an introduction to setup the interviews and even though i did all the grunt work, i wont have even gotten in the door without knowing someone. The company as a matter of policy does not even advertise positions. A little about the company: international company with huge investment portfolio in the millions of dollars, where its based should not be important but its on the island. cant reveal more than that about the company. please let me know what you think or what you would do in my shoes. Also i would be happy to answer any questions that help you offer better advise provided its something i can reveal Thanks in advance |
THIS IS A STERN WARNING/ADVISE TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN SHIPPING FROM US TO NIGERIA with VHI......if you hear the name VHI or VHI Cargo or Value Handlers International.... or whatever acronym they now use..... RUN with your goods I am not advocating from any other company or suggesting alternatives since that's not my motive, my warning stems from a personal experience with the company and it was entirely terrible. I wish someone had put something like this out there to give people an idea of what to expect in terms of service from VHI so we could make informed decisons. I wont spend the whole day typing but ill give you bullet points: Does this company fulfill deliveries in 7- 10 days like they advertise.... Hell no (i got my item after 5 weeks) Does this company keep you informed of progress/updates especially when the expected delivery date has passed..... You wish ( you have to email, call and follow up yourself to get any information) You are asked to fill a pre-shipping form the item you want to send to them whih includes tracking number of the courier your using to send the parcel to their warehouse and all your details(phone number, address etc) and then scan your id to them for verification. You would only assume this means they have all your details at hand and they will be professional..... Guess again (You can understand my surprise when issues arose and i was being asked what my contact number was?) This company gives u an exact format of how to write your name on the parcel when shipping to them, I emailed them and got them to send me an exact format of how they want it written..... So imagine the shock i got by email after 2 weeks for a parcel that was meant to be in Nigeria within 10days from someone telling me i wrote the address wrongly and my goods have been returned by the courier to me (this only after i had inquired to the status of my goods) After several calls and emails by me to my courier company and their company representative who originally told me i sent it to the wrong address (bear in mind my tracking number confirmed my goods was delivered to them 3 days after i sent it and i emailed them to confirm this was done.), i then emailed them the address they sent me to which they confirmed that the zip code they gave me was wrong by a number. Nevertheless the courier company confirmed it was delivered to them. Eventually after a few days, they told me it was an error and it was not my goods that was returned but another customer.....I was already obviously deep into this and could not pull out but to say i had began to regret using them was an understatement. Eventually my item got to Nigeria and another 7days to clear and a further 3 or 4 days for them to pick up from the cargo office to their office before the item was collected. So after 5 weeks of waiting and emailing and jumping through hoops i naively believed my journey was over and i could receive my parcel and run for dare life....... my recipient picked up the parcel, got home and opened it to find it damaged (the screen of the tablet had cracked) I am cutting my losses and washing my hands of this company but decided to help someone avoid such a terrible experience if possible. I was not recommended to them, i came on nairaland and searched for ways to ship to nigeria desperately an my main motive was speed of delivery rather than cost without using ups/fedex/dhl. Please note i emailed them to advise of the damage and they responded in the defense as expected saying with the amount of protective packaging i used (bubble wraps for the item and air packets in the case)item could not have broken unless it was tampered with i transit. You would expect anyone with common sense to know if you throw a box around for 5 weeks with glass in it irrespective of the packaging, there is the probability of damage as evidenced by a damage on part of the screen and not the whole screen. Either way you have been warned/advised. N.B i dare anyone from the company from the 3 representatives i dealt with to call me out on any of the things i said or term my feedback false as i have all emails from the beginning of this transaction to prove my claims and you can judge for yourself..... |
dynamitee:I wish i had read your post before using this company.... words cant express my disappointment or dissatisfaction with the service from the beginning to the end.... A real case of if anything can go wrong, it will |
arbitter:Your right, definitely June 7 - 8th---The 41st G7 summit will be held in Schloss Elmau, Bavaria, Germany on June 7–8, 2015 (No sane leader would invite a president elect to such when there is still a sitting president and then have the ambassador announce it to the press).. Just part of the issues of half baked media houses and their biased reporting |
kilokeys:Sorry guys and dont mean to burst your bubble but i dont think that developed country your referring to exists yet "The concept of an alternative emergency PIN system, or duress code, for ATM systems has been around since at least July 30, 1986, when Representative Mario Biaggi, a former police officer, proposed it in the U.S. Congressional Record, pp. 18232 et seq. Biaggi then proposed House Resolution 785 in 1987 which would have had the FBI track the problem of express kidnappings and evaluate the idea of an emergency PIN system. HR785 died in committee without debate. Zingher has not been successful in marketing licenses for his patent.[2] Police in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Illinois, and Kansas have supported the concept.[3][4][5][6] Police support prompted the Illinois legislature to pass a law making it mandatory on all ATMs in Illinois. The law was changed shortly after it was passed by a "follow-on" bill that changed the meaning to the exact opposite of what they were seeking.[7][8][9][10] In 2006, an e-mail chain letter hoax circulated that claimed a reverse PIN duress code system is in place universally.[11] American Banker reported on January 2, 2007 that no PIN-reversal duress code is used on any ATM as of that date. In September 2013 the hoax was still circulating in Australia with the text: |
udeyokay:Detailed answer to your question in the link below http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-emergencyappointment.html |
I guess a little more information might help eg Have you been to the us before? if your answer is yes then i think you have a really good chance, since you dint abscond previously regardless of your ties. I also think some evidence of the procedure your dad went through and when (probably scanned to you) would help during your interview to confirm the surgery and your reason for visiting. If your planning to travel this december then i think your chances are quite good since your already doing your Nysc and its unlikely you abandon it just few months into the nysc program since you came from uk to serve. (your should probably hold your uk certificate or some other type of proof your foreign trained). You might need to show evidence of leave from your ppa and probably a letter from the nysc secretariat like you suggested to confirm your serving presently. Finally i think honesty is the best policy (eg when asked about your parents status and things like that). Not having strong ties to Nigeria does not disqualify you (probably just means you need to prove harder you wont disappear) and with the approach you are planning to take, I think you should be fine. In summary i think the kind of support information you need will be invite letter, financial information, accommodation information (all these can be covered by your folks). As for ties, The truth is best rather than lying or making up stuff merryberry: |
ShehuAba:Am slightly confused here and i dont go on nairaland regularly. i also dont comment on peoples threads or questions regularly and i certainly do not personalize or refer to anybody directly. Could you please tell me what post you you think i attributed to you and also the use of the statement "obsessed with lying". it makes me wonder if i know you personally or if our paths have ever crossed. My apologises if i have offended you in anyway but i implore you to check your facts again and you will confirm i have never mentioned you before. My only contact with you should be from lending my voice to the story about this years national honour list and unless you were the reporter that published the story then it should not concern you. |

Yes your b1/b2 visa is still valid however you need to make sure that the immigration officer at the us port of entry stamps your f1 visa and not your visiting visa so you dont have issues in the country. Your b1/b2 visa will remain valid till the date it expires and also you can renew your f1 visa if it expires before you finish your program. Just get a new i20 from your school saying you are still registered and you can go to the embassy with that. At the moment however you dont need to worry about all that, you will get accustomed to what needs to be done before that time comes. |
ShehuAba: While i never respond to such posts or even care, i cant help but notice based on the list of current governors, past governors, future governors, ex cons, indicted persons and all matter of shady people etc Fashola should have fit into their criteria somehow however maybe some new algorithms unknown to mathematical scholars was used in arriving at this list. |
Hey Bro, Sorry for the delay First of all, like several people have said, nothing guarantees an acceptance or denial. Your third trial in few months might not be the best decision, since you have deferred your admission to spring, it might be a good idea to defer your interview till late october or november which gives you time to perfect your account statement. You can defer your interview by going online and request to adjust same way you booked appointment. You usually have about 2 opportunities to defer. In terms of perfecting your account, i mean having a stable account that does not show sudden large influxes that cannot be explained just before you print your statement and attend your interview. If your dad is working, a letter showing amount is earning monthly/annualy from employer could help as well as a letter stating he his sponsoring you AND if he his retired, his pension account statement for the past 3 months should suffice. please note if the funds in his account are so large and his pension or salary dont seem plausible to provide it, he would need to explain with a letter or documents of how those funds are obtained. You should also request for a letter from your school stating the deferment and asking for any information or assistance they can provide to confirm your coming to the school (such as they dint require gre/gmat for your program) Holla at me if you need more explanation or help you chrisezedei1987: . |
