Onitsha is the economic and financial gateway to the Eastern Nigeria. People visit Onitsha from almost every parts of Nigeria and Africa in general for one business transaction or another. Onitsha hosts the wealthiest people of the eastern region because it is the economic melting point of the region just like Lagos is the economic melting point of Southwest Nigeria. Onitsha was the first place the British colonialists berthed in the Eastern region(southeast and southsouth) and established their Western culture including churches and missionary schools like the Christ the King college-CKC, Denise memorial grammar school- DMGS, Queen of Rosary college- QRC, among others. The city hosted the British businessmen who were using the Onitsha port for business transactions between Onitsha and Europe. The port has recently been upgraded to meet with the challenges of current realities of today. Today, the city has grown to become an economic force to reckon with across Africa. The city has equally advanced infrastructurally with 10 lanes superhighway, two cloverleaf interchanges, two multi billion naira Niger bridges, flyovers, etc. Onitsha has an international airport(Anambra international airport) just 15 minutes from the city centre. This airport has further energised business activities in the city. This city bubbles with malls that host shoprite, etc, hospitality facilities, eateries of various forms, local, foreign dishes, Chinese restaurants, among others. I can go on and on but will stop here for today. https://evideostv.com/this-is-onitsha-not-lekki/?amp=1

investnow2013:This is cool. With what's going on at Awka Millennium city & Millennium court, Dubai estate, Efab estate, etc, Awka is leading in quality and modern real estate development in the region. Onitsha luxury place estate is equally coming through. With the Anambra International Airport, there will be more development of upscale neighborhoods off Airport road and high rise of corporate headquarters and regional headquarters of bluechip companies lining the airport highway.

Chikeluba25:This is a good iconic development. Anambra is growing as the fastest developing state in the region. The second Niger bridge will further expand development in the great city of Onitsha. Awka is already among the fastest developing cities in Nigeria. Soludo is here to further take our cities to another new level altogether. Anambra already has a standard international airport to cater for not just Anambra but the entire eastern region. Awka international convention centre is there also to host the biggest events that comes to SE region. Anambra is ready.

Thirty-two states in Nigeria, including Rivers and Kaduna, did not attract any foreign investments in the first quarter of 2022, The PUNCH has learnt. A report by the National Bureau of Statistics shows that only Lagos, Oyo, Katsina, Anambra states, and the Federal Capital Territory attracted investment during the period. According to the NBS’ Nigerian Capital Importation (Q1 2022), the total value of capital imported into Nigeria in the first quarter of 2022 stood at $1.6bn from $2.2bn in the preceding quarter, showing a decrease of 28.09 per cent. When compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021, capital importation decreased by 17.46 per cent from $1.9bn. The largest amount of capital importation by type was received through portfolio investment, which accounted for 60.87 per cent ($957.58m). This was followed by Other Investment with 29.28 per cent ($460.59m) while Foreign Direct Investment accounted for 9.85 per cent ($154.97m) of total capital imported in Q1 2022. By destination of investment, Lagos State remained the top destination in Q1 with $1.1bn accounting for 71.16 per cent of total capital investment into Nigeria. This was followed by investment into Abuja (FCT), valued at $446.8m(28.40 per cent). Anambra Oyo and Katsina states followed, with each raking in $4.1m, $2m and $700,000, respectively. On the other hand, Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna and Kebbi states failed to attract any foreign investments during the period under review. Others are Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Kano, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara states. Categorisation of total capital investment by bank shows that Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria ranked highest in Q1 with $543.20m (34.53 per cent). This was followed by Citi Bank Nigeria Limited with $439.03m(27.91 per cent) and Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc with $251.52 (15.99 per cent). Speaking in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH, an ECOWAS Common Investment Market consultant, Professor Jonathan Aremu, said, “It’s simple. It’s because they don’t have the attracting factors. The factors that attract foreign investment are not available in those 31 states. One thing about investment is that it is crisis shy. Investment doesn’t go to places where there are crisis. Why? Because investors want stability and predictability of their investments, particularly, having returns on their investments. “When an economy is witnessing what we are witnessing currently, despite the investment potentials of that kind of economy, investors will wait and see whether the factors that can guarantee predictable and sustainable investments will finally be available.” He added that the twin factors of a good investment climate as well as a good perception of that climate would have to be present for investors to develop the confidence to bring investments into the country. Similarly, the Deputy-President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gabriel Idahosa, cited factors such as insecurity and the economic crisis experienced in Nigeria in recent years as major reasons why investors may not consider Nigeria the best possible destination. Idahosa said, “We know what to do. We simply have refused to do it. We know that we should have put in place a state police system around this country maybe five or 10 years back, before Boko Haram became a monster. If we had state police in Borno State when Boko Haram was a very small, tiny group of ruffians creating local problems, perhaps we never would have heard of Boko Haram. “Generally, the police system should be taken out of the Exclusive list; so we can have state police, and municipal police, just like we have in other federations. The New York Police Department has a budget that is probably higher than the Nigerian Police. Same thing with the Los Angeles Police Department. We know what to do, it’s just the political confidence to do it.” https://punchng.com/kaduna-rivers-30-others-attract-zero-foreign-investments-in-q1/

Earlier today, I received a delegation of the Executives of our great Party -- the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) -- from Abia State at the Anambra State Governor's lodge, Amawbia. The leader of the delegation and candidate of our party in the upcoming 2023 gubernatorial election, Prof. Gregory Ibeh, came bearing good tidings from "God's own State". Prof. Greg's personsal contributions to the development of Society is deserving of commendation. I am certain Abia desperately needs a Greg Ibeh. We shall be in Abia to lead the charge when the time comes. CC. Soludo, CFR.

Reporting reaching us has confirmed that one of the factional candidates of Labour Party, Jude Ezenwafor, has withdrawn from the presidential race. This may not be unconnected with the information that INEC has on its website, showing the authentic leadership of the party was the one that produced Peter Obi as the presidential candidate. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on its website recognised the Labour Party’s leadership structure that elected former Anambra governor, Peter Obi as its presidential candidate. The party is factionalised with a faction producing Obi as its presidential candidate and another one producing Jude Ezenwafor as its candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections. The withdrawal of Jude Ezenwafor is coming 24hrs after a sham congress was yesterday in Abuja conducted to produce his candidacy https://evideostv.com/labour-party-factional-candidate-withdraws-from-the-race/?amp=1 Lalasticlala

At a meeting with the Commissioner at Jerome Udorji State Secretariat Awka, Ogwuaniocha community leaders and representatives of Sterling Energy Exploration and Production Company, SEEPCO Limited agreed to sign Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMoU, for continued oil exploration in the area under conducive atmosphere. Addressing the meeting, the President General of Ogwuaniocha Progressives Association, Comrade Chidi Eze said residents of the community have been rendered homeless by the activities of the company including loss of about fifty lives and regretted that no meaningful project has been executed in the community by the oil company. Contributing, another community leader and Chairman of GMoU Committee, Mr Tony Ebonwu, recalled that the Senate had, since 2020, mandated the parties to sign the GMoU, which he alleged that the oil company has been reneging on, accusing it of instigating violence in the community. Attorneys to Ogwuaniocha community, Chimezie Ani and Mike Egbunike, called for a committal date for signing of the GMoU. Denying some allegations levelled against it, the Community Relations Manager and Consultant to Sterling Energy Exploration and Production Company, Mr Austin Atuonah said the company had shown and is still interested in achieving peace in the area, and has been carrying out community development programmes in Ogwuaniocha community. Addressing the parties, Commissioner Ifeanya said achieving peace in all communities in the State is the desire of the Soludo administration, adding that aside contributing to the recognition of Anambra as an oil producing State, oil exploration in Ogwuaniocha, under peaceful atmosphere, is in the interest of the company, and will add to internally generated revenue accruable to the State. He called on the oil company to recognize the rights and benefits of the host community as stipulated in Petroleum Industry Act, which include but not limited to appointing a Community Liason Officer, CLO, and carrying out social responsibility programmes, reminding the company that non-compliance attracts sanctions. Regent of Ogwuaniocha community, Prince Reginald Nnaji, Woman leader, Mrs Appolonia Ezenwa, Youth leader, Engineer Uche Onyedi, among other eminent personalities from the community, participated in the meeting that was adjourned to hold before the end of the second week of June for signing of the GMoU.

Anambra Commissioner For Power and Water Resources Goes On Facility Tour At Otuocha Regional Water Scheme By Blessing Uchendu (ABS REPORTER) Anambra State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engineer Julius Chukwuemeka, says provision of social amenities and developmental projects is top priority of the present administration. Engineer Chukwuemeka stated this at the Otuocha Regional Water Scheme, Anambra East Council Area, during a tour of the facility. The water facility, which is a partnership between Anambra State Government and the European Union, is sourced from the Omambala River, and serves three communities, including Aguleri, Umueri, Umuoba-Anam. He called on traditional rulers, presidents general and other community leaders to help to secure and maintain laid-in pipes that pass water to the fetching points. Walking the commissioner round the facility, the Acting Director, Water Resources Department of the Ministry, Mr Victor Ezekwo explained that the water, after being treated, goes to the overhead tank situated at Father Joseph Catholic Church, Aguleri from where it reticulates to different points. He disclosed that with the water project, people of the area will no longer lack portable water.

Permesso:No body lied to anyone. We followed the airport project from the start to the finish, we saw the CAT2 lights mounted. Air Peace has been landing there. It is either the report is propaganda or something else. But in reality the airport has all the ILS needed to land even at night, but presently it is only day time flights that land there until the next upgrade to the international flights. I said this is a propaganda, because air peace doesn't have such report on any of the media handle, be the airline is prompt in reporting anything concerning their flight issues across Nigeria. |
Pacesetterz:You obviously don't know what the report is talking about. The airport is standard by every measure. I suspect this is a propaganda report, because while Anambra international airport CAT2 lighting, no other state airport in Nigeria has it, so no airport in Nigeria could have accepted flights beyond 6.30pm. |
Permesso:This is a propaganda report. The airport is not accepting night flights yet, just like all the airports in Nigeria except MMIA and Abuja, though Anambra airport is the only state airport in Nigeria with CAT2 lighting system. |
