Nigeria has the money, but lack visionary and purposeful leadership.

I like you,Most Nigerians will lie but you have said everything that I was going to say.

We are an extremely rich country and all that's lacking is our brains, we can only move on if we invest in our economy and our inexistent infrastructure.

Nigerians would've been worst in racism, if the ball of racism was in her court. A common tribe difference is even worst than what I see or hear about racism. I've heard non-Hausas call an aboki; a "malu" or "cow" several times I mean several times. If a black man could hate on a black man and his tribe, how much more a white?

That's called ethnic or tribal wars, totally different they do the same in Russia as the guy had said earlier, but on a serious note Nigerians are a very accepting society, that is why they are the most happiest people in the world, particularly the Yoruba people I remember going Lagos a few years ago and they were so happy and treated foreign born Nigerians like me like one of their own.

some username: There are racists but they are few and nobody considers them seriously. And even they don't really care about blacks, they mostly hate on caucasians (chechens and dagestanis) and immigrants from Central Asia (from different -stans, like Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan etc). That anger is almost all deserved though, they behave horribly here. There isn't a week without some news about a bunch of chechens starting shooting in Moscow or illegal immigrants from Tajikistan kidnapping and raping some russian girl.

For example here in Siberia we have lots of native mongoloids (mostly yakuts and buryats) and nobody even thinks about discriminating against them. I have never heard of a single ethnic fight between russians and natives here.

That means they're racist, and do not try telling me they do not hate on blacks Russia by far is the most communist and anti-black country in the world,I've have russian friends and their parents are very immoral.

A compelling argument,I must say but NO they did not.

Thats why they treated there people like shiit, killing there fathers and selling there brothers all in the name of money and power.

If you do not believe me go and research about slavery, and the benin empire.

BRISIN is not internet and communication infrastructure, but data and information infrastructure, that will stop ancorruption, criminality, unemployment, terrorismd introduce good governance and equal justice to every Nigerian. You should ask developed countries what is BRISIN and stop interpreting what you don't know. President GEJ want to bring Nigeria to look like those countries you want to go to. So better vote him to make this country a better place to live for all.

Same thing,it all comes under telecommunication and before you argue I have a GCSE in computer science and a degree in ICT so do not correct me.Who will stop what, your ignorance is beyond anything I have seen, this is the same guy who has even been proved to have stolen over 4 trillion naira in just over 4 years excluding his years as a governor yet you come online to abuse me and then you say I should ask countries that i want to go to,I was born and breed in the uk i currently live in the uk so get your facts bloody right before you start abusing people you uncivilized miscreant.

Wait you wrote corruption, criminality, unemployment and terrorism will stop due to BRISIN,which obviously is total nonsense but even if this was to happen can you tell me all those things you said don't exist in developed countries, let me make it clear the only way a country can develop itself is by a it investing in its public infrastructure and its economy its doesnt get any simpler than that.

i guess too many things are already known about asiwaju political congress and they give an insight into what to expect if they ever win.
1. Asiwaju's toronto (fraud) university certificate.
2. Big time corruption during asiwaju's tenure that he was questioned by EFCC.
3. He travelled abroad to treat knee injury telling us he failed to develop lagos health sector as governor.
4. Buhari's untrustworthy and scary religious inclinations
5. APC's romance with nPDP G7, most of whom are non performers in their states (gov ahmed of kwara a good example).
6. APC's association with Ngige, a man who stole a mandate 10 years ago.

But PDP too doesnt fair well. I dont understand why the president is covering up corruption (stella oduah as good example). GEJ threathened Amechi (a political enemy) with EFCC, but failed to do same with corrupt Dickson (an ally). He also failed to caution his wife;casting aspersions on his leadership capabilities.

But what is the assurance that Buhari (if he eventually emerges as APC's candidate) can fair better if he becomes president? He may be able to control his wife (islamic law things), but will he actually be able to fight corruption? Tinubu is corrupt no doubt. Will buhari ever get asiwaju to return his loots? What of the thiefing G7 who may finally join APC; will buhari be able to curb their corrupt mindedness? APC is just thinking of numbers and not the quality of people they are working with.

Read carefully, all leaders steal,I do not mind them stealing all I care about is that if they want to steal they should also use our money for something good such as public infrastructure, and buhari will not fail us.By the way there is no need to worry about him being a bigot it's just all myths.

I will vote GEJ because he is implementing BRISIN project, if he start it it will be better he finish building this fundamental infrastructure for the future of this country, Nigeria will become great if BRISIN is in place.
BRISBIN is actually internet and telecommunication infrastructure which is not fundamental because how much Nigerians even use the internet in fact broadband does not even exist in Nigeria.
And infrastructure is used mainly for the word 'public',public infrastructure is the building of roads, houses ,a world class transport system, modern hospitals and medical centres and most importantly educational resources such as modern schools and up to date technology and books.

WHICH NIGERIA DOES NOT HAVE.

So vote, vote for something that will not benefit you or the GREAT kids of Nigeria's tomorrow.

Kponkwem: Jonathan may not be Nigeria's best candidate but in the land of the blind, a one-eyed man is always king. On this basis therefore,Jonathan is the best President ever to rule Nigeria.

He has been on the saddle for just less than 3 years yet see these packed achievements:
1. FDI: N3 trillion in solid minerals, oil and gas and energy sectors- mostly Brazilian, Chinese and American investors.

2.Agro reforms with export driven value chains: rice, cassava, cocoa, sugar cane, millet, fisheries.

3.Transport: Rail lines revived along Kano-Ibadan-Lagos route; eastern route from PH-Enugu-Maiduguri coming. Navigable waterways for passenger and bulk freight to decongest highways.

4. Aviation: Remodelling of 22 airports with runway expansion. Eight designated for aerotropolis and cargo terminals; renegotiation of BASA terms to favour Nigerian travels.

5. Petroleum: Busting of subsidy payments scam and rechanneling of funds to SURE-P with jobs for 3000 youths per state in traffic control, road rehabs, farms etc. Regular supply of products.

6. Energy: Power sector reforms with new GENCOs and DISCOs and hand over of NIPPs to new owners leading to increased power generation and jobs.

7. Works: Roads rehabilitation all over the country. Enugu-PH; Onitsha-Enugu; East-West; Benin-Ore-Sagamu; Lagos-Ibadan; Biu-Ngama; Lokoja-Abuja-9th Mile. For the first time since the war: 2nd Niger Bridge awarded to Julius Berger. Etc. Etc etc
GEJ till 2019.

How has this helped an average Nigerian.

Fools like you come online to type bull and hover on things that hardly even affect your life, how could we be from a rich country yet so much are starving so much are living on less that a dollar a day and basic infrastructure does not even exist.A man like jonathan who has been proved of stealing trillions of naira for his greedy self.

HolyHolla: Todays Nigeria reports:

Well every country has money, some more, some less but it's not really about who has more money, it's about how the country utilizes it's money. Reading this list might make some of us disappointed cause there's nothingto show for it.
Africa is one of the largest continents in the world and the home to 53 nation states. Although regarded as the poorest continent, there are some progressing economies in Africa which are quite wealthy. Here is the list of top ten 10 richest nationsor countries in Africa with respect to Gross Domestic Product (Purchasing Power Parity).

Interestingly, African Americans spend $960 billion in the US with a projected growth to $1.2 trillion by 2012. If regarded as a nation-state African Americans would representthe 14th largest economy in the world, and the largest nation on the African continent.

1. Egypt: The country has a highly developed economy, and she is the first richest country in Africa having 467,600 dollars GDP (PPP). GDP (Nominal) per capita of Egypt is 187.956 billion dollars in 2009, estimated by IMF. Egypt has a developed energy market based on coal, oil, natural gas, and hydro power. Egypt has huge reservesof gas, estimated at 1,940 cubic kilometers, and LNG is exported to many countries.

2. South Africais the second richest country of Africa and is ranked 25th in the world in terms of GDP (PPP) as of 2009. GDP (PPP) of South Africais 403,900 dollars while GDP per capita is 227.379 billion dollars. South Africais the largest energy producer and consumer on the continent. The country is also a popular tourist destination, and a substantial amount of revenue comes from tourism. Among the main attractions are the diverse and picturesque culture, the game reservesand the highly regarded local wines.

3. Nigeria is the third richest country of Africa continent having $ 294,800 billions GDP compared on purchasing power parity GDP per capita of Nigeria is 165.437 billion dollars with growing population. Nigeria is currently the 50th largest export market for U.S goods and the 14th largest exporter of goods to the U.S. Nigeria used part of itsoil profits to pay the residual 40% freeing up at least $ 1.15 billion annually for poverty reduction programs.

4. Algeria is the fourth richest country of Africa having $ 268,900 dollars GDP (PPP) while GDP per capita of Algeria is 134.797 billion dollars estimated by IMF in 2009. The fossil fuels energy sectoris the backbone of Algeria’s economy, accounting for roughly 60% of budget revenues, 30% of GDP, and over 95% of export earnings. The country ranks fourteenth in petroleum reserves, containing 11.B billion barrels of proven oil reserves with estimates suggesting that the actual amount is even more.

5. Morocco is the fifth richest countryof Africa continent having $ 127,000 GDP (Purchasing Power parity) in her account whereas GDP per capita is 90.775 billion dollars in 2009. Morocco is the world’s third-largest producer of phosphorus and the price fluctuations of phosphates on the international market greatly influence economy. In the Arab World, Morocco has the second-largest non-oil GDP, behind Egypt.

6. Angola is one of the fastest growing economy in the world. The country is the sixth richest country of Africa having 93,100 dollars GDP compared on purchasing power parity. The GDP per capita of Angola is 69.708 billion dollars. Anti-corruption watchdog Transparency internationalrated Angola one of the 10 most corrupt countries in the world. Oil production from Angola now is china’s biggest supplier of oil.

7. Libya is the seventh richest nation in Africa having 90,600 dollars GDP (purchasing power parity) while GDP per capita of Libya is 60.609 billion dollars. Today, high oil revenues and a small population give Libya one of the highest GDPS per person in Africa. The world Banks defines Libya as an “Upper Middle Economy” along with only seven other African countries.

8. Sudan is the eight richest countryin Africa having 80,500 dollars GDP (PPP) whereas GDP per capita of Sudan is 54,294 billion dollars. Currently oil is Sudan’s main export, and the production is increasing dramatically. Agriculture production remains Sudan’s most important sector, employing 80% of the workforce and contributing 39% of GDP.

9. Tunisia: In 2008 Tunisia had a GDP of $ 41 billion (official exchange rates) or $ 82 billion on measured purchasing power parity. It also has one of Africa and the Middle East’s highest per capita GDP (PPP) having 76,900 dollars. Tunisia was the first Mediterranean countryto sign an association agreement with the European Union. The Agricultural Sector stands for 11.6% of the GDP, industry 25.7% and services 62.8%.

10. Ethiopia has the biggest economy in east Africa (GDP) as the Ethiopian economy is also one of the fastest growing in the world. GDP (PPP) of Ethiopia is 61,600 dollars and GDP per capita is 33.920 billion Agriculture accounts for almost 41 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP), 80% of export, and 80% of the labour force. Ethiopia is Africa’s second biggest maize producer.

ailed States Index: Nigeria Ranked 15 out of 177 Nations
Category: Nigerian Economy

Read (1262) Failed States Index: Nigeria Ranked 15 out of 177 Nations

Nigeria was yesterday ranked the 15th most failed nation in the world, out of a total of 177 countries that were surveyed. The country moved upwards three places from 18th position in 2008; and 17th in 2007. The newly released Failed State Index 2009 was published by the United States think-tank and an independent research organisation, the Fund for Peace, and the magazine Foreign Policy. This is the 5th edition, since 2005.

According to the detailed Index, Somalia emerged the most failed state, for the second time running, while Norway emerged the best or most sustainable state. The index's ranks are based on twelve indicators of state vulnerability - four social, two economic and six political. The indicators are not designed to forecast when states may experience violence or collapse. Instead, they are meant to measure a state's vulnerability to collapse or conflict.

Out of the 15 most failed nations surveyed, ten were African nations. These include Somalia (1st), Zimbabwe (2nd), Sudan (3rd), Chad (4th), Dem. Rep. of Congo (5th), Central African Republic (8th), Guinea (9th), Ivory Coast (11th), Kenya (14th), and Nigeria (15th).

The best five nations, which were described as having the most sustainable state include Norway (177), Finland (176), Sweden (175), Switzerland (174), and Ireland (173). Ghana emerged the best state in Africa, ranked 124 and classified as moderate state, while USA was 159th and UK 161 on the survey list.

The Crisis States Research Centre defines a “failed state” as a condition of “state collapse” – i.e., a state that can no longer perform its basic security and development functions and that has no effective control over its territory.

The Index used 12 indicators of state cohesion and performance, compiled through a close examination of more than 30,000 publicly available sources. The survey also ranked 177 states in order from most to least at risk of failure. The 60 most vulnerable states are listed in the rankings.
The list only assesses sovereign states (determined by membership in the United Nations.) Several territories are excluded until their political status and UN membership is ratified in international law.

For example, Taiwan, the Palestinian Territories, Northern Cyprus, Kosovo, and Western Sahara are not included in the list, even though some are recognized as sovereign states by some nations.
Ranking is based on the total scores of the 12 indicators. For each indicator, the ratings are placed on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being the lowest intensity (most stable) and 10 being the highest intensity (least stable). The total score is the sum of the 12 indicators and is on a scale of 0-120.

The applied indicators include demographic pressures; massive movement of refugees and internally displaced peoples; legacy of vengeance-seeking group grievance; chronic and sustained human flight; uneven economic development along group lines; and sharp and/or severe economic decline.
Others are criminalisation and/or delegitimisation of the state; progressive deterioration of public services; widespread violation of human rights; security apparatus as ‘state within a state’; rise of factionalised elites; and intervention of other states or external factors.

“It is a sobering time for the world’s most fragile countries—virulent economic crisis, countless natural disasters, and government collapse. This year, we delve deeper than ever into just what went wrong—and who is to blame”, the groups noted.

“Other countries dependent on the import and export of commodities—from Nigeria to Equatorial Guinea to Bangladesh—had a similarly rough go of it last year, suffering what economist Homi Kharas calls a “whiplash effect” as prices spiked sharply and then plummeted. All indications are that 2009 will bring little to no reprieve.”

“The Failed States Index does not provide all the answers, nor does it claim to be able to. But it is a starting point for a discussion about why states fail and what should be done about them—a discussion, sadly, that we might be having even more frequently this year”, the authors noted. All countries in the red (Alert, FSI of 90 or more), orange (Warning, FSI of 60 or more), or yellow (Moderate, FSI of 30 or more) categories display some features that make parts of their societies and institutions vulnerable to failure.

Some in the yellow zone may be failing at a faster rate than those in the more dangerous orange or red zones, and therefore could experience violence sooner. Conversely, some in the red zone, though critical, may exhibit some positive signs of recovery or be deteriorating slowly, giving them time to adopt mitigating strategies.

WHat are you lot saying? Spain, Greece, Italy and France are in serious economic trouble and people can hardly eat 3 square meals a day. Even the UK now is on the edge. There is serious poverty in Europe and the truth is, their system is failing. Even the US has rising poverty rates. People now eat from the rubbish bin. There was a news item last week of a police woman who gave a woman thief 100 dollars to feed her children, instead of arresting her for theft because she was just too touched. Those who say the @op is lying are either Nigerians in diaspora who want people to believe all is well or Nigerians back home who still think traveling abroad is the solution to the predicaments

America i can understand but everything you said about Europe is extremely misguided, I was born and raised in UK and currently live in kensington and yes you are correct it's extremely hard abroad but to make things clearer to you I studied economics for over 7 years and i have never read such misguided sentence, Greece was suffering economic crises early on but that has passed Italy and France are still making a lot of money and economically get stronger but not as they were a few years ago. To make things clear to you poverty in Spain is highly unlikely to be found of and spain is one out of a very few countries in the world where the government is paying people to have children because the population of spain is decreasing extremely fast because the people are getting richer and now do not need to children to rely on.The british enforced a law in 2007 which states anyone who is a british citizen is entitled to a living space and now it's nearly impossible to see people living on the streets anymore. One more thing, people are not finding it hard to eat three square meals in the those countries you mentioned because nearly all european countries have something called living benefits and benefits is a free payout of money to citizens who do not have a job, medical healthcare and free food for children at school(primary and secondary schools in europe are free).
