Politics / Re: How Jonathan Defeated Obasanjo by anulaxad(m): 2:04pm On Apr 03, 2015
calebo101:
Please nobody should ever mention Jonathan and Obasanjo in same sentence, they are miles apart!!!

Obasanjo oversaw 2 elections and none of them was free and fair, Jonathan did. Obasanjo had 8 peaceful years of leadership he did NOTHING for Nigeria, Jonathan in 5 years did much more despite the demons from the North tormenting him. Jonathan laid the bedrock of democracy for Nigeria and Africa. It's not easy for a sitting president to sign the FOI bill when you know it would be used to witch hunt you, Jonathan did!

Obasanjo under his tenure Bola Ige, Harry Marshall, and a whole lot of political assassinations occurred even when the political climate was not tense, Jonathan's tenure despite the tensed political atmosphere never recorded a single assassination and nobody was or went on exile.

Obasanjo was so deluded he claimed Jonathan was training snipers with people on watch-list, how mad can a man get? That midget El-Rufai was on exile during Yar'Adua's tenure and could only come back to Nigeria to flex his mouth because Jonathan allowed it.

Jonathan's defeat was just a powerful merged force of the Northerners and a region of their South-Western allies. If Jonathan was to be a Yoruba man or an Hausa man, he would have been the BEST president by miles Nigeria ever had. But unfortunately he is a minority and not in control of the mass media and social media, that is his bane.

All they had to do was give a dog a bad name in order to hang it, and they did it. Suddenly Jonathan became the most corrupt man ever in Nigeria. Same folks conveniently forgot Abacha's loot which decades later is still being discovered and recovered. They also forgot Obasanjo's romance with the Halliburton scandal and Siemens's scandal and the shameless "Ghana must go" saga when Obasanjo tried to buy a third term in office.

But like someone said, Jonathan lost Nigeria and won Africa and the World. Even in defeat Obasanjo has been trounced thoroughly by the man from the creeks. Watch how Jonathan becomes an Africa statesman after his handover and how world leaders use him as a reference point on the growth of democracy in Nigeria cum Africa. Being clueless seems to be a blessing after all.

Unlike Obasanjo who gatecrashes into Africa countries to give his unsolicited advise. Useless old man without a family and without dignity.

Your post reeks ignorance. So your telling me there was no rigging in 2011, it was 'free and fair', may I say even PDP themselves would disagree with you on that , wait now lets look at 2015, why did Jonathan illegally place soldiers and military men in various parts of the southeast (Rivers e.g), but no that was not enough APC supporters where now detained in Imo state for no solid reason.

He is suddenly a hero for conceding to defeat, all those years of misery has suddenly dissipated because he conceded to defeat, unbelievable

Anyone who thinks Jonathan is a hero just because he 'conceded' to defeat unquestionably has a problem.

Brimmie:
Dear Nairalanders, we all need to understand the concept of Greatness and Heroism. I have been reading Revisionist pieces and White-Washing of Sepulchres on several Social Media Platforms with different people calling GEJ a Hero for conceding to Buhari.

So he is now a hero because he conceded? Did he have a choice?

GEJ has played Politics with the Lives of thousands of our Countrymen for too long. History will never be kind to him. Note that He wasn't magnanimous by accepting defeat, the circumstances and factors were all against him. He didn't concede, he was compelled to. He didn't give us democracy, we demanded it and we got it. He is not a hero by any standard.

We should separate sentiments from matters of National Interest, all those who made hate speeches should be prosecuted. All those who stole our collective wealth must be jailed and made to refund the money.

Sending congratulatory messages to Buhari should not confer automatic Immunity to these Wicked Criminals.

The true Heroes are those who stood up in the rain to vote and stayed to make sure their votes count. Not GEJ who allowed impuntiy unchecked, to whom "Stealing is not corruption".

GEJ's concession of defeat is commendable, but not admirable. He must answer for embezzled funds.

- Brimmie (2015)

I am egalitarian with you on this. Absolutely. To be honest I'm glad someone could stand out against this. I mean seriously he is now a 'hero' after all the pain he has caused or failed to combat in the north and the suffering of 170 million people. Not forgetting poverty has risen under his tenure.

You have spoken what was exactly on my mind. Thank you.

It has now become a norm for a section of the Nairaland APC to abuse, libel and denigrate my humble self. Though such act is highly libellous and provocative, I will not be forced by whatever reasons to go on verbal exchange with anyone over that. I shall not be forced to act childishly neither will I denigrate myself and reputation to involve in exchanging words with anyone with respect to childish tantrums.

My defection to the PDP/GEJ camp has nothing to do with gratification or whatever, this I have said often times. The Presidential election have been won and lost. Though on the losing side, I have no reason to regret my defection. I congratulate the victorious APC Team on the enviable success at the poll.

I want to assure perpetrators of such inglorious act (and other form of cyber-bullying) that I shall not be wearied neither be silenced. I will not quit Nairaland any time soon. I shall be here to comment on issues and policies of the incoming administration of General Buhari. As a compatriot, I appeal to perpetrators to stop such act, but be more focus on the task ahead of delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians irrespective of political divide. I want to assume that being the (incoming) party in power, the NL APC supporters will show maturity, be democratic and lead the change they preach.

Once again, Congratulations to all Nairaland APC... May God spare our lives to witness the incoming government.

TBH, your not all that, people are just having common banter, is not all about you, I personally find your attitude a bit narcissistic.

mekaboy:
Was at a joint and political debate started. Buhari supporters started shouting that jonathan is corrupt and Nigeria needs change. They said buhari will fix Nigeria.

Then i told them the people bringing buhari to power are corrupt as well.

I then brought up the issue of education, that buhari knows nothing about economics and governance, but jonathan is educated and understands governance.

I told them buhari said he will stablize global oil price and make 1 naira equal to one dollar. We all knw its not possible, and if he knew anything about economics he wont make that statement.

They made the mistake and admitted buhari was not knowledgeable in those areas, but will employ people who had thr knowledge to do so.

I told them the appointment will be handled by tinubu like he did the vice president, and if he falls out with tinubu in the area of corruption, he will mess the system up for buhari.

They said jonathan has the knowledge but is corrupt.

Then i gave this illustration.

You have a mechanic who knows how to fix a fault in your car but will charge u 10times the cost because he is corrupt. Then u have a sincer guy who knows nothing about fixing cars but has promised to fix ur car free.

Will u give ur car to the one that is corrupt but can fix or the one that is sincere but will spoil the car because he lacks knowledge?

They did not want to answer. then people there started telling them to answer. They said, who wants to spoil their car ofcourse the corrupt mechanic. But the illustration is not right.

Jonathan is the corrupt mechanic.

OP unfortunately, online poll has diasporans, foreigners, multiple voters, underaged, people without PVC, those with PVCs but relunctant to vote as participants. It is also restricted to those with access to the said polls. There are also those that are aware of the poll but are relunctant to vote. Meanwhile, the voting bloc are the traders, market people, artisans and people in rural areas. These people don't do e-vote. There is also the silent group that watches as things unfolds. Trust online poll @ your own risk. In the run up to USA presidential election 2004, online poll predicted victory for Jonhn Kerry but Bush was elected. In 2012 many poll gave it to Mitt Romney but Obama defeated him. In Greece election, no online poll gave it to the eventual winner. Of recent, Benjamin Natayahu of Israel lost every online poll but his party came victorious at the real poll.
In 2007 Presidential election run-off in Nigeria, a USA agency sponsored poll gave it to Buhari. In 2011 Nairaland poll gave it to Buhari (it was landslide). I took my time to tell you this so that yount shout "rigging". Truth is less than 0.001% of eligible voting population in Nigeria do these online polls. The main voters that determines where the pendulum swing are the grassroot andthese are the people that Jonathan and PDP are more concerned with. These are the people that votes and are the people whose majority endorsed Goodluck Jonathan...

Your ignorance will be your downfall, sixteen years of pain and darkness, and you expect Nigerians not to leave their country. It is indeed a shame, I don't know who you are, but I will tell you this if all Nigerians thought like you they certainly wouldn't be any progress.

At least those of us who have our clear eyes open do not disagree with the fact that there has been corruption in every Government in Nigeria since independence, and Jonathan's Government is not an exception, but it becomes very annoying when APC employees like you try to make it look as if GEJ invented corruption in Nigeria, and that Buhari is a saint.

FYI, Buhari is no saint, he is a corrupt man who benefits from corruption and claims there is no corruption in any system he is "chopping" from.

No wonder he chopped from Abacha's government and claimed Abacha was not corrupt.

No wonder Buhari is claiming he wants to come and fight corruption, but he is using the funds Bola Tinubu and Rotimi Amaechi have stolen and diverted from public treasury to fund his campaign.

Tinubu is a personification of CORRUPTION, and he happens to be Buhari's bed-fellow. Our wise elders will always say "show me your friends, and i will tell you who you are".

Mr APC, it is obvious that Nigeria has issues with corruption, but GEJ is also trying within his capacity to fight it. The fact that he is not violating human rights and throwing suspected & innocent people into jail like your Buhari does not mean he is not doing anything about fighting corruption.

Buhari is not a saint!

Buhari is a crook & a thief, else he will not tell us he has no money to buy nomination form, but his children school in UK universities and his wife can easily donate N137million drugs to Internally displaced persons in Adamawa state!
