Politics / Re: Buhari And Mutually Assured Restoration By Ben Murray Bruce by anulaxad(m): 11:48am On May 26, 2015
I want to begin by saying that the southerners that he is talking about clearly does not include the southwest. South-westerners are very grateful to both parties the mentioned'southerners' and northerners, we don't claim such nonsense such as Biafra and we don't claim oil belonging to us as we recognise that we are all one.

Yes they may be some elements who may choose to act as tribalistic bigots, but the majority of us acknowledge where our produce comes from. Therefore I am offended my mr. Bruce saying that it is 'southerners' that choose to disregard the northerners when the south westerners themselves do not commit such deeds.

I hope he realises his mistake, because everywhere I go on this forum, there is always one 'biafran' who feels the need to claim the nations oil as theirs and insults his neighbours calling them dependent.

COUNTING DOWN TO 29TH MAY,LET'S COMPARE AND CONTRAST

OBASANJO'S REGIME

ACHIEVEMENTS:
GSM Licensing
Arrest and Probe of Corrupt Ex-Govs and Ministers
Cancelling of the Paris Debt
Commissioning of Few Federal Roads

DEFICIENCIES:

When Obasanjo left office in 2007, virtually all sectors were grounded by strikes, ASUU, Labour, Health, name it. Federal roads had collapsed completely, there was very little electricity and there was acute shortage of petroleum products...$16 Billion Dollars spent on power..Halliburton Scandal..Youth Unemployement,#100million/70 Million Bribe for Senators and Fed House of Reps to Support Third Term.

GOODLUCK'S REGIME

ACHIEVEMENTS
-Food Sufficiency through enhanced Fertilizer Distribution
-Repair and Reconstruction of Major Federal Roads
-Youth Empowerment via YOUWIN,SURE-P,GIS ETC
-Guaranteed Free and Fair Elections

DEFICIENCIES
-Inability to totally contend Boko Haram
-Increased debt profile
-Inability to probe and prosecute corrupt officials in his government

I will need us to give an objective review of the two regimes without being sentimental or partisan

Look at the way you are defending Jonathan.

He dramatically increased our national and foreign debt, his icomepentrence has led to over 5 million homeless and in refugee camps in the north, recently we learnt that there are an additonal 1.5 million Nigerians living in refugee camps across our borders.

Could this happen if we had OBJ; a general. We have no fuel, light is at around 1350 MW, can you imagine that was much lower than OBJ regime yet Jonathan has spent countless so called 'billions' on this project; only in Nigeria.

OBJ was no saint, but his will brought democracy to Nigeria. He patriotically cleared all Nigeria's debt and of course increased our foreign account from nothing to over 70 billion dollars.

Not only has GEJ brought upon debt, but has ferociously decreased our foreign account. He has left debt all over the place; even in aso rock.

I have too much to say about this wicked element they call GEJ but I shall stop.

Do you know how many counties get flooded in the UK every year. There was a guy that built an island for himself inside the water while everyone was relocated. How many people in the UK drinks coke and throws the bottle out. Our gutters are dust bin and are always full.

I'm going to disagree with you there, I live in the UK and I believe I am well educated on the subject of flooding as I am a geographer.
The UK is known for it's very disciplined drainage system so flooding is extremely rare, and I can guarantee that what I saw in that picture could never occur here in the UK; with people still wallowing in high depths of water.

The UK has quite alot of rivers(also known as drainage basins) which naturally act as basins for water that comes from precipitation and if the basins are flooded the towns or villages surrounding may flood, but in those towns themselves they would have a drainage system underground so chances of flooding are very low.

The last major 'flood' that had significant damage to the UK was in Boscatle, 2004, and even in that event no-one had died or was injured; which sane country will allow its citizens to wallow in water up to people thighs;only in Nigeria.

Anyway, I'm a huge fan of EKO ATLANTIC, I hope one day that I might relocate there.

Politics / Nigeria's Fuel Shortage Has Crippled The Economy- BBC UK by anulaxad(m): 2:40pm On May 25, 2015
Nigeria fuel shortage cripples businesses, banks and flights
2 hours ago
From the section Africa
People queue with jerry cans to buy fuel at Mobil filling station in Lagos, on May 21
There have been long queues at petrol stations because of the fuel shortage
Nigeria is being crippled by the fuel shortage that the country has been experiencing for more than a month.
Nigerian banks have shortened opening times, flights have been cancelled and phone companies may restrict services.
The party of President-elect Muhammadu Buhari has accused the outgoing government of "sabotage" for failing to deal with the crisis.
The wholesale fuel sellers have been withholding petrol as they say they are owed $1bn (£625m) by the government.

Scenes from the queues for fuel in Abuja, capital of Nigeria
The Guarantee Trust Bank says its branches will close at 12:00 GMT as it struggles to get fuel for its generators.
The shortening of its opening times is the latest sign of the impact of the fuel shortage.
Most Nigerian businesses and homes rely on diesel-powered generators because of the poor electricity infrastructure.

The shortage means that Africa's biggest economy is slowly grinding to halt, says the BBC's Will Ross in Lagos.
Three of the country's mobile phone companies, MTN, Airtel and Etisalat, have warned that the fuel scarcity could effect their services as they were finding it difficult to supply diesel to the base stations.
Traffic on the roads is also reducing as many fuel stations have stopped selling petrol and there are long queues at places where they are selling petrol, our correspondent says.
Many domestic flights have been cancelled and some international flights are having to land in neighbouring countries to refuel.
Radio stations are also restricting their broadcasts and some have gone off air altogether.

Analysis: Will Ross, BBC News, Lagos:
Man with jerry cans
Homes and businesses rely on jerry cans full of fuel to power generators
It appears the fuel importers and marketers who operate a multi-billion dollar scam are blackmailing the government into agreeing to one more massive payout as they are not sure how much longer the fuel subsidy racket will go on.
They are literally shutting down the nation saying they are owed $1bn in arrears, but no-one gets to see how that figure is worked out. Many government officials, including employees of the state fuel company, are so intertwined in the fraud it is hard to know who is scamming who.
One thing is clear. Nigerians across the country trying earn a living to feed their families are facing a new level of hardship.
The incoming president is inheriting one hell of a mess.
line
At the heart of the shortage is a row over the payment to wholesalers of the difference between the subsidised pump price and the international market price.
The wholesalers are waiting for a $1bn payout from the government before they release more fuel.

15 May 2015: Why Nigerians have been struggling for fuel
It is thought that President-elect Buhari, who takes power on Friday, may move to end the petrol subsidy and so the wholesalers are trying to get something from the outgoing administration.
The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) thinks government inaction is deliberate so that Mr Buhari will take over a "nation in deep crisis".
On Sunday, APC spokesman Alhaji Lai Mohammed said in a statement that the "departing office holder [was] defecating on the chair he is vacating".
The People's Democratic Party of outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan says that it is the opposition which is behind the crisis "to create an impression that the APC is inheriting... a complete system breakdown".
The fuel subsidy has become an enormous scam, our correspondent says.
The wholesalers often pretend to bring in a lot more oil than they do and pocket the money they get for the petrol that is not delivered.

Complete utter nonsense. This has no bases even with a source to provide for it. OBJ provided cheap call rates for Nigerians who wanted to call family of friends abroad, he really developed our internet and mobile infrastructure which puts us ahead than any other country in west Africa, though he was corrupt but never failed to tell the truth.

Buhari's regime was the least corrupt and no-one can testify against that, that's of course if they're mentally deluded.

But what jonathan caused is unforgivable, thousands have died due to his incompetence, millions of Nigerians (aprox 5-7 million) left homeless and living in refugee camps, that's more than the whole population of Libya, he allowed 20 billion dollars or even more to go missing, he spent 3 trillion naira on elections alone.

Despite his atrocities he put Libya on the world map, held the different opposing factions and ethnicities together, and made Libya a force to reckon with.

The after-effects of the Arab Spring have shown that the Middle East and the Arab world are better suited to dictatorship.
Just look at what is happening there right now without their strong dictators...
Libya without Gaddafi
Iraq without Hussein
Egypt without Mubarak
Syria with besieged Assad
Also Yemen.
All these places are crawling with terrorists and armed militants, with hundreds of thousands of refugees. All because America felt they were better off with democracy.

provided free healthcare for it's citizens
oil revenue went straight to its citizens banks

a man who slept in a tent until his citizens all had houses
0 percent interest on loans as it was law
gave people interested in farming free land and resources
