IT'S EXTREMELY SAD NIGERIANS DO NOT KNOW WHAT THERE ENTITLED TO, ESPECIALLY COMING FROM A RICH COUNTRY.
UNDER YAKUBU GOWON'S RULE,THERE WAS A CONSTITUTION RULE THAT NIGERIANS MAY KNOW ABOUT BUT DO NOT KNOW WHO EM-PLACED,IT ALLOWS THE AVERAGE NIGERIAN TO BE ENTITLED TO FREE HEALTHCARE, DEPENDING WHERE THEY STAND,IF THERE IN EXTREME POVERTY LIKE THE MAJORITY OF NIGERIANS, EDUCATION AND WEEKLY(AS IT WAS BACK THEN)OR MONTHLY ALLOWANCE BY THE GOVERNMENT.
THINGS HAVE NOT REALLY CHANGED IT'S JUST THERE ARE NOT THAT MUCH NIGERIANS LIKE MYSELF WHO ARE READY TO READ THE CONSTITUTION,LAWS AND SO THAT WE HAD FROM DAY ONE.
AND GEJ IS JUST TAKING THE PISS TO THE NEXT LEVEL. OBASANJO KNEW HE WAS CORRUPT AND HE NEVER ONCE DENIED IT BUT AT LEAST HE GOT THE COUNTRY AND IT'S PEOPLE ON BALANCE SINCE THE DREADFUL,PAINFUL EVIL RULE OF THAT THEY CALL ABACHA. |

Sincere 9gerian: (SEE PAGE 2 AND BEYOND FOR PICTURES)
Some say GEJ has not done anything, others say he has not done enough but the REALITY on ground is that President Jonathan is working. GEJ inherited a moribund country and started working right from day one and has never looked back since then.
Expectedly, those who are blinded by ethnic, party loyalty or other primordial sentiments, have continued to deny the obvious progress being made in several sector. On my part, as a patriotic Nigeria, I'll continue to EMBARRASS these few but NOISY see-no-good and hear-no-good disgruntled elements.
Therefore, I decided to highlight the achievements of GEJ in the last 2 to 3yrs to further embarrass the HATERS and to remind fair minded and unbiased persons of our past and present.
1) Electoral Reforms: before GEJ came to power, elections in Nigeria were shamelessly and brazenly rigged. Elections were do-or-die affair and ALL results were announced at Abuja or state capital. The last election that was conducted just before GEJ came to power was the Ekiti gubernatorial re-run in 2009. I got the following excerpts from a report on that election which was also shamelessly rigged, consistent with past elections:
....“My conscience as a Christian will not allow me to further participate in this process ” It was with these words that Mrs. Ayoka Adebayo resigned her appointment as the Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner on April 28 2009. A series of events followed which has left every one in doubt of just what value Mrs. Adebayo’s conscience isworth. It all came to a climax yesterday when she shamelessly and without recourse to her hitherto advertised Christian Conscience announced and returned Segun Oni of the PDP as winner of the protracted gubernatorial re-run election... http://nzesylva./2009/05/06/the-re-branding-of-conscience-ayoka-adebayo-as-a-case-study/
GEJ came to power and immediately instituted a clean up of our electoral system. Whereas in the past it was unthinkable for the ruling PDP or incumbents (that have not fallen out of favour with Abuja) to lose elections, elections are now fairly contested with possibility of opposition parties winning, courtesy of the reforms carried out by GEJ. As at the last count, opposition parties, under this new dispensation, won state gubernatorials elections in Anambra (2010), Nasarawa, Ogun, Oyo, Edo (2012), Ondo, etc and several legislative elections.
Still on the issue of elections, let me conclude by stating that the benefits of free and fair elections in any country are ENORMOUS and outweighs EVERY OTHER 'dividends' of democracy. Leaders who emerge from the people's vote will most likely work for the people, deliver projects that'll benefit the majority, and will be less corrupt. Free and fair elections also guarantees political stability and political stability is the ONLY recipe for sustainable development. Therefore, THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS AT ALL LEVELS.
2) Electric Power Supply: Personally, I'm so excited about some of the reforms that have taken place in the power sector in the last 2 to 3yrs. The govt of GEJ inherited a seriously challenged power sector. The average power generation as at 2009/2010 was below 3,000megawatts as attested in the following reports:
"To help put things in comparative perspective, Nigeria’spower demand is estimated at about 15,000 MW but as at September 2009, peak generation supplied by PHCN was 2,443 MW –less than 17% of our electricity need is currently being supplied¡" http://www.nasirschronicles.com/?p=85
"As at 2010, Nigeria was generating about 2,800MW. But in April of 2011, the quantum of available power moved to 3,800MW, a record 1,000MW addition in one year" http://www.newswatchngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4224&Itemid=42
GEJ immediately went to work using a well thought out Power Road as the template to transform the sector. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the regulator of the sector, which was previously unknown, has been reformed with energetic and credible leadership and is now a house-hold name. The 17 successor PHCN companies are being privatised in an unprecedented transparent process. The Transmission Company of Nigeria has been concessioned to Manitoba while the Bulk Purchaser has been created to buy power in bulk from power private power generation companies and engender confidence for private sector participation in the sector. The NIPP projects (power plants, distribution and transmission facilities) and gas projects are being pursued with renewed vigour and urgency to bring many of them to quick completion.
Consequently, power generation peaked recently at 4,500MW and many Nigerians have acknowledged improved power supply to their homes and offices.
http://premiumtimesng.com/news/112442-nigeria-power-generation-hits-4500mw.html https://www.nairaland.com/1144376/public-power-supply-continues-improve May it not well for you,you facking paid pdp activist.RICH COUNTRY POOR PEOPLE IS THIS LIFE,SHUFFERING AND SMILING,FELA KUTI. |

Becacia_Barbie: * Will extremely Reduce the salaries/allowances of Government officials.
*No government officials would be allowed to recieve more than 250k monthly...no matter his/her rank or level in the Government including my self.
*And would make sure all money are/is allocated in the right places or for the purpose for which it was generated for.
*I dont understand why we cant have power supply 24/7, they make it seem like its impossible, but with me in power....darkness would b history in Nig.
would create or design a layout of how every houses should be built in every states, and would build more Beautiful estates that would really be affordable for every 9igerian.
More Universities, am definitely gonna erase the Writing of UME.
More Montessori primary schools.
Would also bridge the gap between the Rich and the poor by increasing the Tax rates/levy paid by the Rich.
Security, infrastructures, facilities for schools, hospitals, etc
Corruption would be completely erased, cause am sure we are all aware of every type of corruption in Nigeria bt overlooking it due to fear, weakness, desperation, frustration, poverty, human feelings etc me i no go look face o! #yimu at my sef. But i wished.
Chai! So many 2hings on my mind....lol God knows am gonna turn this country around with enough significant changes if i had the opportunity.
With that(reducing the allowances of govt officials), we gonna generate enough money, to turn Nigeria into one of the best country in the world! YOU HAVE VERY STRONG VIEWS WHICH I LIKE ,BUT IF YOU ARE SAYING NO ONE IN GOVERNMENT CAN RECEIVE MORE THAN 250K ,NAIRA I ASPECT,THEN THAT'S JUST FOR ME IS MADNESS,MY FAMILY ARE NIGERIAN BUT BORN AND BREED IN THE UK EXAMPLE MY FATHER MYSELF AND MY CHILD,AND MY FATHER HAS BEEN AND ACCOUNTANT HIS WHO LIFE AND WHEN HE WAS WORKING HE COULD SIMPLE EARN 2500 POUNDS A WEEK,WHICH IS 625K IN NAIRA A WEEK.NOW HE IS NOW RETIRED AND HE EARNS BY PENSION 1750 POUNDS A WEEK,SO YOU WORK OUT THEN MATHS AND TRY AND GUESS HOW MUCH IT IS IN NAIRA. AND IT WAS A GOVERNMENT JOB.MY JOB MAKES ME EARN WAY MORE. BUT THAT ONLY HAPPENED WHEN I STUDIED FOR A GOOD 12 YEARS AND COUNTING LIKE NOW WHEN I GET OFF NAIRALAND I STILL HAVE TO READ AND READ AND READ. |

Wallie: Why you wan insult me? Be rest assured that I will respond in kind if you do. If you disagree just state your points!
You asked for what GDP per capita means sarcastically but I'll go ahead and tell you anyway.
It means all the value of final services and goods produced in a nation in a given year divided by the number of people in the nation. The calculation doesn't take corruption into account and neither does it include how much money Nigerians actually have.
For example, if Nigeria made $300,000,000 and we have a population of 150,000,000 then the GDP per capita is $2.
As you see, your definition is COMPLETELY wrong! IT'S OBVIOUS YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR SAYING. AND TO MAKE THINGS WORSE YOU TYPE WITHOUT NOT THINKING ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR STUPIDITY. I MEAN DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH NIGERIA MAKES ANNUALLY, YET YOU SAY NIGERIA IS NOT RICH.I EVEN PRESENTED TO YOU THE RICHEST ECONOMIES OF THE WORLD WHICH SHOWED NIGERIA BEING THE 39 RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. I CAN FIND A BILLION REASONS WHY YOU ARE WRONG IN EVERYTHING YOU SAY,BUT FROM THE WAY I SEE THINGS YOU ARE ON THOSE ARROGANT TYPES I CANNOT DEAL WITH. I'm guessing you missed my point about using part of the taxes paid to fund a health insurance program? Also, who told you Nigeria is a rich country?
What is the per capita GDP of Nigeria? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)_per_capita DO not let me insult you. please tell me what GDP PER CAPITA MEANS. NOW IF YOU DO NOT KNOW LET ME TELL YOU WHAT IT MEANS. IT MEANS BY HOW MUCH MONEY A CERTAIN POPULATION OF A COUNTRY RECEIVES BY THE GOVERNMENT,AND NIGERIA IS CORRUPT SO THE MONEY IS ONLY SHARED BY 1 PERCENT OF THE POPULATION.MEANING AN AVERAGE CITIZEN LIKE YOU RECEIVES NOTHING BY THE GOVERNMENT.EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE MEANT TO. NOW PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT BEFORE YOU COMMENT.I CERTAINLY DO NOT BLAME YOU EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES AND MAYBE YOU DID NOT KNOW. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal) these are the biggest economies of the world. NOW ECONOMY MEANS MONEY IN SCIENTIFICALLY TERMS.Now please tell me what ranking does Nigeria take in the richest countries in Africa. talk talk talk, all that is needed is implemented focus on infrastructure like world class roads, hospitals, housing, and education, and more. |

Wallie: Corruption 1. Automatic 1 year jail term for every $1 million stolen. You can reduce your jail term by paying the jail term down. For example, if you return $1m you are guilty of looting, your sentence will be reduced 1/10th of 1 year. To avoid jail, you will need to pay back 10 times the stolen amount. 2. Breach of public duty not involving money will result in a punishment ranging from termination to a 3-month jail term. If it involves money, more time will be added to the 3-month. This is needed for public official that derelict their duty. 3. Former politicians will need to explain the source of their wealth otherwise they will forfeit what can’t be explained.
Taxes 4. Everybody will be issued a unique National Identity number. The number will be needed to get any service regulated by the government e.g schools, hospitals, electricity, traveling outside the country, opening a bank account, etc 5. Everybody over the age of 21 will have to file a tax return at the end of the year even if unemployed. 6. The federal tax rate will be a flat rate of 20%. 7. Every house will pay property taxes based on the size of the house and land but I would exempt rental properties of 4 or more units. 8. Every vehicle except commercial vehicles will pay road usage tax based on the size and year of the vehicle. Vehicles over 20 years will pay no taxes. Basically, my tax policy will tax the rich more because of their consumption since they buy the newer cars and live in bigger houses.
Youth Unemployment 9. Unemployed people can get up to NGN5000 for free after filing taxes. 10. The tax collecting agency will need more tax inspectors for tax auditing. 11. People will be audited randomly for paid taxes and if your lifestyle does not match your income declared on your tax return, na jail be that! 12. I will be building new prisons and they need to be staffed.
Mineral Resources 13. Mineral resources will belong to the owners of the land but will be taxed and controlled by the government.
Crude Oil Revenue 14. The current crude oil revenue sharing philosophy will be gradually phased out over 10 years and states will be encouraged to generate their own IGR. For each of the 10 years, the revenue to states will be reduced by 10% but the states can get it back by generating an equal amount of IGR.
Healthcare 15. Everybody will be encouraged to own basic healthcare insurance that will cover their basic health needs. This will be done by creating an insurance company that will insure people that filed taxes. An amount of the taxes paid will be paid into the insurance company to insure people. 16. Federally funded technology centers and incubation centers will be created and built in all universities. Their staff will be federal employees and they will be evaluated yearly based on how many successful companies students created.
I'll address the remaining points later… THIS IS A BUNCH OF BULL. HOW MUCH NIGERIANS CAN AFFORD SIMPLE HEALTH INSURANCE. YOUR UNSTERILIZED OPINIONS ARE GOOD FOR NO COUNTRY. AND TO MAKE THINGS WORSE YOU WANT ALL THIS TO HAPPEN IN A RICH COUNTRY LIKE NIGERIA. NO NIGERIAN DESERVES TAX.PLEASE NOT EVEN THE UK IS AS BRUTAL AS THIS.EXTREMELY SCARY THOUGHTS. |

We're building hideous cities. If our cities were clean and used modern ideas the people would respect it and themselves a lot more. When people enter a clean bathroom they clean up any mess they may have made, when the enter a dirty one they'll piss anyhow and go home.
Why do nigerians feel they're the only people alive that have to go through hardship. Is it cheap to buy a house anywhere? i'll tell you buying land and building a house is several times cheaper in Nigeria than in America. All these babalowos that come back from the US and build mansions, if you see the boxes they're living in and calling homes in the US you'll laugh, and this is with the same money. It's not cheap to build a home or buy one anywhere, but it's no excuse to keep rubbishing your country. If nigeria looked better people would behave better. Compare Onitsha street behavior to Abuja street behavior or Calabar street behavior to the was people act in Ibadan. Even look at the difference in people's behavior in Oshodi before and after the clean up. loooooooooooooooooooool this too funny. |

DaLover: A lot of people Seam to think we are very rich, they do not realize how poor we are, and how little the moeny we generate can achieve at one go
@2.5 million barrels per day, and $100 per barrel, In a year, we should earn 2.5million X 100 X 365 or $91billion (cost of production not considered) Of his total, the FG keeps about $40billion, the states and he LGs share the rest.
I googled 'cost of road constructions' and I came up with the an average of $30million per 4lane km of road. The east west road is bout 300km, and at this rate would cost 300km X $30million or $9billion(I did not include additional cost for numerous bridges or Niger delta terrain)
From a miserly $40billion a year the FG is expected to actually perform magic, pay salaries, subsidize university education, health, subsidize your Nepa, build our rail lines, build power plants, maintain refineries, universities, pay salaries for over 700,000 thousand federal workers, pay pensions, repair and maintain airports....the list is endless
Now lets go back to the example of roads...I know there is a difference between construction of roads and rehabilitation of existing roads, but you have to agree with me that many of the road begging for attention almost require full reconstruction...but for argument sake let say we use a reduced figure of $15million for a 4 lane km highway(I assumed most of the FG trunk are 4 lane roads, I may be wrong) I don't know the total km of Nigerian roads, google couldn't help me here, but I will safely say that at least 5000 km of roads require urgent attention. The total cost for his would be 5000km X 15 million or 75billion dollars....
Thus with an annual budget of $40b, you have roads of $75b to fix. If you decide to dedicate $10b yearly to road construction, it would take 7years for roads bad right now, remember other roads will come up for attention as time goes on.....
We are very poor, people need to have this at he back of their minds when commenting PLEASE STOP RIGHT THERE, CAMEROON IS WORTH 26 BILLION DOLLARS WHILE YOUR SO UNJUSTIFIED CLAIM SAYS NIGERIA MAKES 91 BILLION RIGHT THE SAME CAMEROON THAT IS DEVELOPING THE FASTEST IN CENTRAL AFRICA OUT OF WHAT FUNDS. IT JUST SHOWS THE LEVEL OF INTELLIGENCE. I WILL BORROW A COMMENT FROM AN EARLIER POST I SAID. NIGERIA HAS NOT EVER BEEN RECESSION SINCE OIL WAS FOUND. eggheaders: the guy made reference to materials on his point and gave a detail studies he carried out.and all your dumb head could spew is insult.how many years did it take to transform dubai and oda gulf enclaves.moronic soul like u can't stop reasoning with their as.ses. THANK YOU, MR. JMAINE IF I WAS IGNORANT WHY DID I ANSWER YOUR MORONIC POST YOU POSTED EARLIER,IT DOES SHOWS THAT I AM DEALING WITH AN ILLITERATE PDP PAID OR NOT. BEING A DEVELOPED COUNTRY DOES NOT MEAN YOU WITH BEAR THE TITLE DEVELOPED YOU CUUNT. IF A COUNTRY DEVELOPS ITSELF FAST,THEY BECOME A NEWLY INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRY FOR ONE OR TWO YEARS THEN THEY GET THE TITLE DEVELOPED.OR IF IT IS A HUGELY POPULATED COUNTRY LIKE CHINA IT MAY TAKE A FEW YEARS UNTIL THEY BEAR THE DEVELOPED TITLE. Research Czech republic,or philippines or CHINA or even Malaysia. AND YOU WILL BE SO SURPRISED TO SEE WHAT WHAT TITLES THESE COUNTRIES BARED BEFORE AND AFTER A YEAR OF JUST STRONG DEVELOPMENT.AND TO MAKE THINGS EVEN WORSE THOSE countries don't even earn half of what Nigeria earns a year(INCLUDING CHINA). THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY IS JUST WORTH AROUND 256 BILLION US DOLLARS,YET NIGERIA LAST YEAR EARNED NEARLY UP TO 150 BILLION UK POUNDS IN OIL PROFITS(recorded by the Nigerian government)JUST ALONE. SO JUST IMAGINE HOW MUCH WE REALLY EARN INCLUDING ALL THE MONEY STOLEN FROM CORRUPTION AND OTHER RESOURCES NIGERIA SELL. YOU ARE AN UTTER DISGRACE TO NIGERIANS,AND YOUR HEARTLESSNESS TO YOUR FELLOW NIGERIANS IS REALLY SAD. READ THE ECONOMIST EDITION OF MAY LAST YEAR.THAT MIGHT GIVE YOU A BIT OF INSIGHT OF WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.OR JUST TRY AND READ YOUR AVERAGE NIGERIAN NEWSPAPER. |
