antitpiah: There are new uses of language everyday mumu, and to even patronize you, lets even assume i used the word out of context, is that all you have to lay your hands on? Does that subtract from your own jaundiced view and bias? Go get a life, and yes I know you- you went to bad schools and had terrible teachers. Go back to school and learn, and while doing that, also try to boost your IQ. |
It means people who are indigenes of Great Britain, and just in case you don;t know-it is the largest of europe's islands consisting of England, scotland, Northern Ireland and wales. When you dont know- ask, dont come and start sounding off. |
antitpiah:This Antitpiah is a mor0n, people like you have a complex that borders on inferiority. You are just empty- or how does being half white equate to having a better or superior grasp of language? Do you know how many white people who cannot even speak English? You are just a big fool. And his (Ajuri) being white means he can speak or write English better than a Nigerian? Better than Chimamanda? This guy your brain must be in your arse. Chimamanda is not even a native speaker of the English language- it is just a second tongue (she schooled in UNN if an ignoramus like you does not know anyway), but she has a better grasp of language than many English or British folks- and when I say English or Brittish, I mean indigent Britons. Chinua Achebe is a professor in Brown University, Rhodes Island where he teaches white people about Africa in English. How many white people do you think have a better grasp of English than Wole Soyinka? Many cannot even hold a candle to him. That said, nobody even said Ajuri is white, they said he is Lebanese. Lebanese don’t speak English, they speak Lebanese, they learn English as a second tongue just like us- so how does that make them more advantageous than us in terms of proficiency. You are just a local breed with very little or no exposure, so Nairaland happens to give you a voice- I blame Seun That said too, if your ilk were Americans, Obama would never be president. People like you complain about racism, but if our situation with Caucasians was reversed (and just incase you don’t understand what I mean, being such a dim wit- if Nigerians were inhabitants or indigenes of America), no other person would live there much less get a job. AIT employs one ‘white Lebanese’ -as he says- among maybe a hundred, and he is saying they are creating employment for non Nigerians. If you even read through the post carefully, you will see where the issue of Ajuri’s nationality is put to rest. You don’t even have to read carefully sef- right on the second post the man himself talks. But because you access the internet in cafes where time is a premium, you don’t have the patience to even follow the thread. Next time, keep your pretensions about intellectualism to yourself; don’t come hastily here to start blabbing- that is ugly self promotion, typical of upstarts. It’s nobody’s fault if you have a bad accent (only God or you, knows what that means anyway) and feel slighted by Ajuri, but even if your diction is bogged down by a heavy mother tongue transfer or received pronunciation, slandering a system just because it accommodates a qualified man based on ethnicity is just outright ungracious. Your type make me puke. |
Ajuri Ngelale is the bomb…he is the next big thing to come in Nigerian broadcasting.you guys had better watch him. The only place he can go from here is up. Though his reporting is tentative (he is a rookie, by his own admission), his style is distinct and engaging, he has flowery rhetoric and a beautiful grasp of language. I always like his openings (Forced to work in a city where they cannot afford to live, Nigerian workers are in……… ) I remember him opening in one of his reports- I think when he was reporting the Maraba- Nyanyan traffic log jam a few weeks ago. He is very good and for a green horn, he is excellent. Once he gets to grips with the newsroom and becomes more confident, he will explode. I don’t see him staying there for long as the likes of CNN, BBC, SKY will soon come circling. I am watching him keenly. |
i think its worked, but freemanj, wheres d catch in all dis? no demand for money, just like dat am keepin my fingers crossed, if ders no no hidden foul intent, tanx a bunch |
bro, my pin is 27ae149b, can i get d activation code? |
Tinapa was doomed from inception because the per capita income of Calabar residents is very low. The most immediate market of any wak in business is the surrounding population. Those are the people who sustain the business before the secondary markets are accessed. The local population must buy into such a business before the others from afar can come. Calabar residents didn’t just have the financial muscle to patronize it. So long as the primary market (in dis case calabar residents) lack the purchasing power to keep it going, then there’s is nothing anybody could hav done. Tinapa is an upscale resort where luxury goods and high end services are provided- expensive salons, designer stores, jewellery shops, expensive hotels that come with high maintenance. Rent there is expensive, so are maintenance costs. These costs are built into prices offered by different businesses there. If the people cannot afford those prices, they wont come, and the businesses will close shop. Game at shoprite in Lagos sells flatscreens for 900k some 1m.People in Lagos can afford it, so Game can remain in business. SPAR at Ceddi plaza in Abuja sells normal laptops for as much as 250k, and even though people can afford such, they still struggle for patronage. Take a trip to Ceddi plaza in Abuja, many tenants there have left becasue of high rents and low patronage. Barcellos at Silverbird Abuja sell a plate f rice and chicken for N1,800, wat Tantalizers normally sell for about N900 on the street. If a Mr Biggs or Tantalizers located in Tinapa, Ceddi or Silverbird is paying close to 15m annually, is it the N200 meat pie that will keep the business afloat? It comes down to bottomline, they must make sales to survive and their prices are always marked up by almost 200%. Low income people will always go for less costly alternatives nearer them. Instead of patronizing Nandos in Tinapa, they will patronize the nandos in town. Instead of going to buy a designer bag there, they;l go to the normal stores. Person wey never chop belleful dey go watch cinema for N1,500? NopeTinapa has failed in Calabar, and it would have failed in many of the low income areas like Ilorin, makurdi, jos, Kaduna, akure etc.Theirs was a case of poor planning occassioned by poor economic analysis. |
they still do it. i stepped outside ceddi plaza around 6pm this last sunday 26th june n they were right outside. i didnt knw why dey were gathered there but there were alot of them, and many cars. a group of boys will enter a car, den they will strt racing from infront of morgage bank junction, go up to 140km, den,at dat junction ifront of the back gate of ceddi plaza, they brake n turn the wheel to force the car to face the opposite direction. the car will skid n turn n d children will start applauding, i felt they were mad. the cars atleasr the ones racing were not expensive cars anyway.new maybe, but not like the expensive ones.most of dos ones lke POD, EOD, Muscle were merely parked by the roadsides |
wats d best price? got 2.5m |
very true o, even at d boyfriend girlfreind level sef, i notice dis with my own girl. she doesnt lije my own family around me, is never comfortable with my friends and always wants just two of us together. or at worst wit her own people. am thinking of movin to a bigger place and she has already chosen her younger sister's room, her younger brothers room and is already warming up to inviting her bestie over.i now said so u want all d rooms for your people abi so my own people nko? she said my people dont need to precipitate, dat dey r in dia own place. most times wen my younger brother comes around, she reduces her prescence in d house, she's respectful-prolly adopts an attitude of patronizing tolerance, serves everyone food, but i cant help but wonder how her attitude wil be if i eventually marry her. i just tire for dis mata o |
andromida: here is one of dem abuja hustlers, o.haw bizness. atleast i can recognize u |
andromida: Andomida, na u wan tel me about Abuja or where people dey hang out?? where good girls dey hang out for abuja wey u know? abeg tell us, we wan knw, or atleast a place where there is the highest likelihood of running into diz girls. am sure u will jump n say ceddi or silverbird. good girls go der no doubt, especiually dos malo families who come in cars as a unit, but u cant know dat most of d girls you see at silverbird, during d day, especially on d food court on floor 4 either bowling, playing games, basket pin boards or gallivanting up n down window shopping are hookers. u cant even know because you are not a part of the scenery, so i guess u i guess u only recognize hookers at night. even a blind man can recognize a LovePeddler at night. wat of the ones who go up to floor 5 to watch movies?? aseewo don dey watch fiiilm, we knw. Hav u been in Platinum Lounge on floor 6 before? a bottle of beer der is 1k, so u will expect an upscale clientele abi? male or female. female?? only whores. abegii. abi na ceddi u wan talk?? aristotle and Dakova with his girls, and wat dey get up to, so shut up there.Abi, is it PLAY? Elvis (and dats the CEO, na unilag boy) wants us all to believe his club is for the creme? the guys yes, d girls, many na still hookers. NA Aqua u wan talk? Abi na where sef? Millenium park on sunday?? abeg go sleep There are basically two types of girls in ABJ- hustlers and 'decent girls.' the hustlers are the ones you see every where at night. The decent girls are there but are actually very few and they dont even go out- mostly private house parties. The ones who are in school wait patiently till they leave abuja to run dia show else. Do you knw the number that are on my street that dont even step out?? even to buy credit or detergent? The few who are good and who work shuttle between office and home, and wenever they do decide to club or hang out sef, they are so few they are outnumbred, u nid a microscope to find dem. So abeg, you wey sabi abuja, where good girls dey hang?? an for dos gardens tell us abegYou have regular normal girls in Abuja hustling and u say people can recognize them. Girls who are students and 'good girls in other places'. Comot for road, u no sabi anything about abuja |
Mcleo007:Exaccccccccccccccccccccccccccctly, my broda, dat is the problem.many of the ogas in Abuja- the Executive Secretaries, the DG's, MD's, top directors, members of presidential commissions and contractors who win huge tenders from ministries, as well as heads of extraministerial parastatals only a few years ago were either hustling or were mere level 12 officers in various states who could only marvel and drool at these girls weneva they visited abuja, a few years down the line naw, dat they have risen and gotten high profile appointments in abuja, dey suddenly realise they can now afford diz girls so they pay massively for them. You can imagine a new House of Rep member from Yobe of Potiskum suddenly with money to throw around. Wat of the throng of noveau riche public officials who troop into Abuja in droves on official business? Wat do u expect a local govt civil commission chairman from ilesha or afikpo do wen he comes into town wit a ghana must go of money in his landcruiser?? he pays ofcourse. and the noveau riche traders who only a few years ago were boy boy to their oga who naw hav money and can go to china, everything about Abuja is about sudden wealth, dat step by step transition of Lagos is not really there, so u belong to one social bracket dis night, then the next day u wake up and find yourself in another bracket, and with money, in a town where women are a premium except at night?? |
wats ur ceiling? last price |
My dear, i dont even knw wat to say but take heart. You've been good and u hav shown that u can be an asset to any organization. Do not despair, ur opening will come. She was wicked and perhaps as they say, that job was not for you. So long as you are this proactive, a job will come. Your mistake was ignoring your bank job for this woman. You took a gamble, you lost, it doesnt mean you'l lose another time. I guess you stuck with her becos you have more passion for fashion n style than banking. Your time will come. As I write, I will also soon be in a similar situation. I am inbewteen jobs at the moment and i am about being recruited into an international organization with good prospects for career development. My direct Unit Head is a neigbor and former classmate so he has being giving me all the dubs. However, I have a principal in Abuja who has just been nominated as a Cabinet Minister. They are still undergoing screening and GEJ is yet to send their names to senate. He will be confirmed and sworn in though. Now, am supposed to work with him as a special assistant. He hasnt given me approval in principle though, but thats because everything isnt settled yet and am not in Abuja at the moment. By upper week anyway, i shd know. So long as he says yes, am dropping this hard fought offer in lagos to move to abuja and become a ministerial aide. Its a risk but one am willing to take. He could be there 2years, 4yrears but within that time, i shd be able to get what i seek. I could very easily start with him, ignore this offer and after a time, he sidelines me and i turn to almost a normal civil servant, but its a risk am willing to take. take heart. |
nokia3310: @NOKIA3310 kandiikane:mumu dem dey ask u say wetin be your point ? olodoFOOT NOTE: I am always pissed off with sanctimonious guys who gate crash peoples threads to preach holier than thou. If you don't like it,don't read it! Or better still open your own thread and preach about the evils of sleeping with hookers.

dem say make u comot for here, abi u no dey hear, with only 30posts on NL u r already being a nuisance.na by force say u go come talk for wia people dey? |
andromida:My dear, hypocritical hmm, oyibo repete. if u see a LovePeddler in abuja, u can tell ? ha ha ha where do u live? if u stay in places like maraba, nyanya, karimo, yeah, u can recognize dem cos dey r usually low class. But d ones u see in Aqua, Terminal 5, Play Naa, ders no way u will know if u saw them in d afternoon in wuse market especially wen dey wear normal outfits like jeans, tee shirts and flats. maybe cos dey r so fine u may suspect, but if its english, dey speak beta dan u n i. if its being cream, they use only the most expensive things. You may guess if they are like 2 or 3 together, so long as u knw wasup, one ashi can decieve u, but not wen two or three are gathered. Most of us are not necessarily looking for rich girls, but just give us a thrill, dats all- doesnt matter if u r rich or poor. Dont just be a LovePeddler. And yes, we like flashy girls, ders nuthing we can do about that. And wen i sat flashy, i mean flashy, wit all d bling, wit all d glam- and i dont mean trashy. Personally, I love the LVMH type (the Loius Vuitton Moet Henessey) type cos dey r the showstopers. But in Abj, 98% of this crowd are hookers. The good girls are plain janes |
nokia3310:For sum of u, i guess ders sumthin real macho about sitting behind a computer and caling urself real men. Thanks to Seun n his invinsible NL model, people like you hav a mouth. Anyway, if i mentioned her friends were negotiating 30k, 50k or so, did i say i was propositioning them? If you took a critical reasoning test or psychometric test, you will fail woefully, wen u get to the club, and d girls negotiate, with who ever, its not a hidden fact, dey dont whisper, dey do so boldly.anybody can hear dem. And wat if i propositioned dem. Get the ffuck off muy thread, k.By d way you talk sef, anyone will know u cant get a woman. Club ? no be for people like youclaremont:my broda help me tell am oooo |

They stell you they have to be home by 7 or 8. Wen groove just wan start. Or they cant even hang out at night entirely, wen u knw dat town comes alive at night. This particular girl i met in the boutique, I even thot she was a mummy's girl, na im she come dey hammer man bill so. And mind u, most dis armada of whores in ABj are students oooo, a sizeable percentage flock in daily from d east- aba, enugu, onitsha, asaba and most especially port harcourt. spend three, four weeks, raise money, leave only to return like another month or two or their next holiday. M M M:@ MMM, u can see good girls infront of ibiza abi na sooo, more like seeing a virgin in a maternity ward.Gimbiya is the official No 1 Red light district of Naija, Ibiza, Two Four Seven, Grand Mirage and all dos hotels there, ha, ha, haiyatrustee:Iyatrustee, blakes na small place ? he, he, he, Blakes na stop over, u get high at N300 per bottle before heading for the da club. THe girls cum der first be4 birthing at their final stops cos dey cant go prancing in Krystal, Cubana, by 8pm. Or sum cum be4 dey relocate to Rita Lori, Ibiza or Virgins. Unique Gardens ? dat has to be one of the many gardens around.stagger:My broda, truth is, with any woman nowadays, u must pay. With the whores, u agree a settlement be4 hand, wit the normal girls or corpers, dey let u to use ur church mind.but at the end of the day, u start hearing stories- my uncle's wife is wicked, she is dis, she is dat. i nid to move out. i nid money for rent. i nid money for rent. subletting in any of those central areas where they always prefer-garki, wuse, asokoro- a room is 500k, u dey form boyfriend naa, oya show urself. $700 na money dats a mere 105k, atleast to dos girls. I was talkin to one the other afternoon at d lobby of Transcorp at d Piano Lounge. We run into each other every once in a while at da club and while winding her, she really started talkin. she was like, errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, lemme try to remember her words verbatim 'Its not as if we like this thing, but what can a young girl do?? It’s like punishment having to sleep with different men every night, men who make you feel like vomiting but ou must ffuck so long as they offer 20 or 30k. For now, atleast I’ve been able to save about 250k in my account and by next week am going bak to school (Port Harcourt). I should be vack in 3months. You, young boys sef, your own problem is too much, you will price and price and price and at the other of the day, you will offer only 20 or 25k, yet you people will want to kill somebody during the night.’ At that point her friend now interjected: ‘Most of the old men sef, they will take you home, do nothing but still give you 200k.’ Na wa o, see trouble?? and dos girls hav standing boyfriends back where they live or school. By her own admission, the highest she had ever gotten from any one man was 150k from a local government chairman in Port Harcourt and she had been on the street naw since December last year…. I run down.' |
I met her at a boutique Maitama and we seemed to hit it off immediately. She was all dat- with exactly the sort of bod and features I like- so pretty, drop dead gorgeous with this cherub innocent face. I felt I had gotten the real deal. We exchanged Pins and i went off fantasizing. When i hit her up the next day, with a simple 'hey, wasup? Wen can i come take u out?' next thing was 'wat can u offer?' A LovePeddler? I thot it was a joke, and wen i replied 'wat do others usually offer?' She replied '30k'. This was around 7pm so basically I was just thinkin a sit out anywhere in Wuse or Maitama would do, and here she was telling me she wasnt cut out for that shyt. I couldnt help wondering that if she was charging 30k at 7pm on a working day, then wat would she charge prime time on friday night? It was later that evening when i ran into her at Krystal with a bevy of girls that i finally believed she was a LovePeddler. Those ones were even more harsh-50k, 70k, infact one was telling a guy over a bottle of Henessey that her bill for the night was $700. Even at my Tribeca or Rehab in Lagos (or YNOT, the Lagos equivalent of Krystal) sef, dem girls no dey vex like dis. Diz Abuja girls (sorry whores) don mad finish. Blood dey dia eye. |

Former Speaker Dimeji Bankole took loans for the payment of members’ allowances to avoid impeachment, House Clerk Mohammed Ataba Sani-Omolori has said. The Clerk said the leadership of the House bowed to pressure from members who insisted that “if the leadership does not announce the date of payment of the running cost, they were all going to be removed”. Bankole and his erstwhile deputy, Usman Nafada, are on trial over the way they ran the financial affairs of the House. They were granted bail at the weekend after being remanded in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) custody. The Clerk’s clarifications, in a statement made to the EFCC, have been attached to the Proof of Evidence before the court. Both the prosecution and the defence counsel have the Proof of Evidence, which was obtained from the court by our correspondent. Sani-Omolori gave a comprehensive insight into the financial transactions in the 6th House of Representatives, especially the controversial loans. He said: “In practical terms, the National Assembly has three branches, the Senate, the House of Representatives and the management. The three branches have their separate accounts. “In the case of the House, the Hon. Speaker is the approving authority for all expenditure from the House funds. As the Clerk of the House, I am aware in most cases of the memos on the House funds. The signatories to the House Accounts are employees the Finance and Account Department. “Whenever the need arose for any expenditure around me, I will write a memo seeking for approval from the Hon. Speaker. He sent it back by writing ‘please process’. “On receipt of any such memo, I will forward it to the Clerk of the National Assembly to please direct further.” Sani-Omolori explained how the House ran into trouble since 2010 over funds. He said: “The budget figure for the House for 2010 eventually came to a figure of N60billion, capital inclusive. There was no supplementary appropriation budget by the House in 2010 but there was an Appropriation (Amendment) by the House in 2010. “I am not familiar with the general regulation for obtaining loan by government establishment but aware that the system I met in the House was for the approving authority to endorse taking of loan for specific or general purposes. “Sometime in March last year-2010, the House decided to enhance its running cost and therefore set up a 37-man committee, made up of one member per state and the FCT, to review the welfare package, specifically to enhance their running cost and any other welfare. “When the ‘37 wise men’ submitted their report to the Executive Session of the House, they were directed to meet with the Clerk to show me the basis and how they intend to fund the increase. “I informed them at the meeting that since the budget had been passed, it was only an amendment that can make the funds available. “The House resolved that the new running cost must be paid at all cost. The Principal Officers met at a meeting in the Hon. Speaker’s Guest House in Asokoro sometime in May 2010 where the Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, Hon. Ayo Adeseun, promised to reflect the changes that would give legal backing to the new running cost by adjustments in the budget when the Appropriation (amendment) Bill that was being expected come. “The Body of Principal Officers resolved to source funds, to meet the members’ demand, from the Senate, the management and the bank. “As the ‘37 wise men’ met me through their leader, I wrote a memo to the Hon. Speaker, drawing his attention to the illegality of what they are proposing to do in respect of increasing their running cost without appropriate budget back-up and to also spend the capital funds outside the appropriation. “He sent the memo back to me to ensure the rules are followed at all times. Indeed, we restated the rules guiding capital funds to the committee. “The memo of 19th October 2010 to the Hon. Speaker on the payment of additional running cost for members was written in furtherance of the standing decisions of the Body of Principal Officers to source funds even by loan from the Appropriation Committee to make appropriate provisions in the budget. “Within the interval, the committee assured that they will reflect the funds in 2011 Budget. It was then agreed to source the funds and of course I raised the memo as an administrative function. “After the loan(s) were obtained from UBA, the members were duly paid their enhanced running cost. The running cost of members before they increased it was N27million per member per quarter. They increased it to N42million per member per quarter and the difference of N15million per member per quarter also led to a shortfall that they will take the loan to abridge and pay members.” He said the House augmented payment of running cost with borrowed funds from the National Assembly management (N2.5b); Senate (N1.5b); and UBA (N6b). “By the second quarter of 2011, the sum of about N10.2b) representing two months allocation was released to UBA which had outstanding loan repayment from us to the tune of about N10.7b. The bank used the money to liquidate their loan. “This led to non-payment of members’ running cost and this created a lot of problem in the House. The House met on this issue in an Executive Session and resolved that the House should close its account with UBA and open another account with First Bank of Nigeria which then gave us a loan of N12billion to pay members’ running cost, suspended members’ outstanding running cost, services of the House and the balance of the loan from UBA. The House has paid off the UBA loan. “There was no House resolution authorising the taking of initial loans. The Body of Principal Officers took that decision. Sani-Omolori gave details of how restiveness in the House forced Bankole and other leaders to source for the N12b, three days to the tenure of the 6th House. He added: “When members noticed the reluctance of the leadership to pay the new running cost, they threatened to remove the entire leadership of the House and in fact set aside a day in which if the leadership does not announce the date of payment of the running cost, they were all going to be removed. “On the morning of that day, the leadership resolved to obtain loan to pay the members. The meeting that took the decision was held in the Hon. Speaker’s Guest House in Asokoro and was attended by Hon. Dimeji Bankole; Usman Bayero Nafada; Tunde Akogun; Baba Agaie; Emeka Ihedioha; Aminu Tambuwal; and Mohammed Ali Nuke. “The Chairman of the House Appropriation Committee, Hon. Ayo Adeseun; the Chairman of the House Finance Committee, John Enoh; and the Chairman of the House Services Committee, Al-Makura were also in attendance.” http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/9919-clerk-bankole-rejected-advice.html |
Hottie Tima saying this ? That means there is hope for the female folk. If all girls begin to think like this, then the guys will bash you less. But really, if u ask me, the solutions to some of life's most teething problems like poverty are quite simple. In this case, let all poor girls date or marry rich guys, and let all poor guys strive to marry made girls. Most guys feel cheated cos while it is easy for poor girls to end up with rich guys, a poor guy ending up with a rich girl hmmmm |
rokiatu: My Broda, don’t listen to people Rokiatu here (telling you you shd stick with her). They are the same people who will come here to call you animal, wife batterer the minute your wife’s excesses get out of hand and you decide to clamp down on her. It needn’t get to that stage. People with psychological flaws as your wife (with anger) do not improve with marriage. They get worse, and it would only detoriate except you believe in miracles and decide to wait for your pastor to heal her. While waiting for that turnaround, pray she doesn’t kill you first. Run while you can, You didn’t follow the Ambasador Wigwe story The wife probably started like this too, he tolerated her because in 1978, Seun handnt been born and there was no Nairaland for people like us to advice you. You do not have any excuse, buster, if you end up sorry tomorrow. Ypu can follow Wigwe’s story on: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-679613.32.html http://newafricanpress.com/2011/06/01/my-wife-is-a-husband-beater-ambassador-wigwe/ Those who have ears let them hear. You made a fundamental mistake marrying this woman, and you knew because her temper didn’t just start today. If you listen to people like Rokiatu, then anything wey you see make your hand carry am (if your wife is pretty as Rokiatu anyway, stick with her at your own peril. You will atleast bear the pain knowing that you have a trophy wife, and everyone will be drooling and clapping for you wen you step out with her, shikena |
Instead of kicking her out, you are here asking for stupidd advice. What do you want to hear?? Have you not read about Ambassador Wigwe and his Jezebel wife?? Did you not see how the woman (his wife with similar traits as your wife) brought him down at the pinnacle of his career?? She started by haassing fellow diplomats he was close to in Japan and only last month, forced his recall from Kenya. Learn man, its not everything you need to come to Nairaland to seek advice. Kick her out fast or 10, 15 or 20 years down the line, she will either send you into premature retirement (which will even be a plus for you) or she will send you to an early grave. Dont say you werent warned/. |
Written by Sulaimon Olanrewaju Sunday, 12 June 2011 AMBITION, when excessive, is a jailer. It causes its captive to do the unthinkable, say the unimaginable, desecrate the respected, challenge the unchallengeable and eventually leads the captive down the road of perdition. Being ambitious is great, but when not tethered, it enslaves its victim, foists on him delusion grandeur and makes him overreach himself. There is a felon currently stomping the streets of Lagos, whose ambition is to be installed the Asiwaju of Yorubaland. The ambition in itself is not criminal but to attempt to get the title crookedly with means of doubtful sources is offensive. The Asiwaju title is not an award; it is a reward. So, it does not answer to money. It is a reward for unequalled service to humanity, not for recklessness and rascality. Obafemi Awolowo did not have to employ charlatans to embark on a campaign for him to be installed as Asiwaju of Yorubaland. He did not have to resort to character assassination or defamation of reputable families for him to be recognised as Asiwaju. He did not have to employ any Save the Masses and Children’s Heart Association to put pressure on any Yoruba oba or engage any Sam Omatseye or Tunji Dare to disparage the offspring of Oduduwa or any other person he thought would stand in the way of his ambition. All that Awolowo did was to work with good conscience for the uplift of his people. He was not working as hard as he did because he wanted to become Asiwaju of Yorubaland, he just was doing what he knew was right. His concern was the development of the people and the uplift of the race. He did not take advantage of the people. He did not appropriate the common wealth of the people to himself or his family. What recommended him for the lofty office was his service, not his politics. It was easy for Awolowo to be considered for and installed as Asiwaju of Yorubaland without the issue raising any dust because he did not have any dirty baggage. The office of Asiwaju of Yorubaland is the highest office in the land, so it is not for all comers. It is not for felons and people of questionable means. It is reserved for the best of the race. So, anyone who aspires to the office must come clean. He must be a good example to all Yoruba sons and daughters. He must stand head and shoulders above his peers in character and conduct. He does not have to be the richest Yoruba man but he must have something that all Yoruba people at home and in diaspora appreciate. He must be a person whose public and private lives can stand scrutiny. Anyone who lacks this should distance himself from aspiring to become the leader of the Yoruba race. Let’s take a look at the felon whose greatest ambition is to succeed Awolowo as Asiwaju of Yorubaland. When Bola Tinubu was to contest the 1998 gubernatorial election, he had claimed in the INEC Form CF001 that he attended St. Paul’s Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos. But the truth is that there is no primary school with such name in that area. There is a St. John’s Primary School on that street but certainly not St. Paul’s Primary School. There is none and there has never been any. But Tinubu attended St. Paul’s Primary School, Aroloya, for his primary education, if you get what I mean. He also filled in that form that he attended Government College, Ibadan, for his secondary education, stating he was admitted into the school in 1965. But Tinubu’s name is missing on the list of the 475 students on enrolment in that school in 1965. In 1965, 78 students were admitted into the three arms of Form One but Bola Ahmed Tinubu is conspicuously missing on the list. Yet, according to him, he was in the school for four years. The University of Chicago also debunked his claim of having been a student of the institution. Maxine Sullivan, the university registrar in 1999, had said, in a reply to an e-mail about Tinubu’s studenthip in the university, that, “We have no person by that name in our file.” Although, Chicago State University confirmed his studentship in that institution, the question is what manner of man will be so confused as to forget the name of the university he attended, if indeed he attended the university? Despite the confirmation by Chicago State University that Bola Tinubu was a student in the university, there is still another issue. He claimed in the INEC form he filled that he got a BSc in Economics from the university but at the time he was a student in the university, there was no such programme but a BSc in Business Administration. Tissues and tissues of lies. In 1993, an American special agent, Kevin Moss, deposed to an affidavit, alleging that Tinubu was involved in illicit drug and money laundering activities. The agent also stated that the money held in Tinubu’s and his company’s accounts at the US First Heritage Bank, N.A. and Citibank International “represents the proceeds of drug trafficking, making the fund in the accounts forfeitable to the United States, pursuant to 18 USC S981 and 21 USC S881.” Although, the former Lagos State governor, while admitting that he was investigated by the US, claimed that he forfeited the $460,000 to the US government in a negotiated settlement to avoid huge legal fees, anyone who believes that is capable of believing that Lagos is the capital of the USA. Is it not an insult to the Yoruba race that this is the kind of charatcter who aspires to become the Asiwaju of Yorubaland? The Yoruba people are too sophisticated, thanks to Awolowo, to subject themselves to the leadership of crooks. They are too educated to be made mules. So, anyone who thinks he can hoodwink the race with braggadocio has another thought coming. The Yoruba people know their leaders. The Yoruba value pedigree, hence the saying bibire ko se fi owo ra, good pedigree is beyond naira and kobo or even dollars. In Yorubaland, only those who are regarded as having good pedigree can aspire to lead, certainly not felons or people with disputable claims. Last line: When the bata drum sounds too loudly, Yoruba people say, it is set for a burst. The felon’s bata’s sounding has reached a crescendo, the natural course is a burst and it will be a loud one. It is just a matter of time. http://www.tribune.com.ng/sun/index.php/borderless/4102-asiwaju-of-yorubaland-not-for-felons |
