I am getting married in the next few months and my traditional marraiage- igbankwu nwanyi- comes up in a few weeks to my girl of 7years. I have chronicled my issues with her here in some posts (She was meant to be my bootycall)- the first which came in 2007 or so. When I met her, there were one or two men in her past she had been involved with and it seemed as if she was still seeing one or both- me I was the ‘small’ boy, the 'poor' boy who was not even Igbo who seemed to stand no chance. Seven years on with a better attitude and with her more matured disposition, I have managed to muscle everybody out and we are now getting married with so much angst from the committee of rejected boyfriends and their friends- and even some of her family members. Due to this rancourous build up, a friend adviced me that on the day of the traditional wedding in her village, I should not drink the wine she ( my wife) will give me when she searches for her husband in the crowd. I found this quite strange and was still thinking how to tell her just incase she felt I thought her family will poison me when she called me yesterday night to tell me that when her mother has said I should not drink the wine she(my wife) gives me on that day. She explained to me that if her father was alive, he would have been the one to hand her wine to give me, but since he is no more, it would be any of her uncles (who she has never gotten along with anyway) that would give her the wine. She says I should discretely pour the wine on the ground, stuff notes in the horn or gouard and stand up with her. Someone from her place says that would be slighting my inlaws and it may cause disaffection especially if there’s no bad intention towards me. Since I am not Ibo- my question is- Should I drink the wine or not? If I don’t, would they refuse to give me my wife or would I simply seem like a coward in the eyes of my inlaws? Has anyone heard of an instance of poisoning an inlaw on his igbankwu through the wine he is customarily supposed to drink? Please answer me before I walk open eyed to my wife…..or death. |

It seems alot of people have turned Nairaland into a play thing. Else how do you describe the attitude or is it response of people to matters of critical national interest, up for discourse? Its either they try to trivilize an issue by saying- 'how does this afect the price of garri in the market?' or 'I am the first to comment bla bla bla?' Even facebook respondents have more meaningful things to contribute to matters that need discussion. this struck me quite forcefully just now when the Jonathan visit at the Police College came up. while the nairaland thread was full of shitty responses, the Sahara reporters page on Fb has alot of meaningful contributions. This is the Nairaland thread; https://www.nairaland.com/1167258/breaking-news-jonathan-lagos-inspects This is the facebook page http://www.facebook.com/ReportYourself/posts/475639299140730 if the moderators dont do something about these deranged members, then I dont see Nairaland lasting beyond 2015. my 2cents |

Very few of GEJ's speeches are written by his team. Most of those speeches are written by the MDA in charge of whateva it is he is attending, commissioning or visiting. For example, if he is delivering a speech for the commissioning of a power project in the ministry of power, the director overseeing d project will write a speech and send it to the chief of staff for vetting. Once it is approved,it is now read by GEJ at the occassion. If let's say it is oil n gas project being supervised by the NNPC, the director/officer at NNPC in charge will write the speech, send it thru the perm sec.ministry of petroleum to the president thru chief of staff for vetting. GEJ then reads it at the event.ditto all other events n speeches. Apart frm those state of the nation addresses maybe twice or thrice a year written by abati, oronto n reno perhaps |

Is this really like asking what the difference is between six and half a dozen? I was prompted to ask this question because I was reading a post on NL and everyone was admonishing a guy for carrying ashewo because they sleep with so many people. So I now asked myself if I also carry aashewo and I was like, 'Nooo, me, I dont carry aashewo o, I only do things with runz girls.' Then I now had to convince myself that there really was a wide gulf between aasewo and Runs girls even though i admitted to myself Runz girls also sleep with many people. But in my own estimation, aashewo are girls who stay in brothels and keep rooms where they take men or girls who stand on the road waiting for pick ups by men- that is- they are into collecting money for sexuall favors full time. To them, its a job.In my mind too, Runz girls are girls who, while not doing any of these two, make it obvious in their manner and demenour that they can be available for a price. they are more subtle and less direct and mostly found at the club, lounges, malls etc etc. Its difficult convincing myself there is a difference but I think there is a thin line separating both- as most of these Runz girls are students- hustlers or street if you like. Some do not demand money upfront, but let you use your discretion or church mind- I guess thats if they see you are the 'responsible' type. Is there really a difference? |
He was saying this infront of the Senate commitee, populated by men who are EFCC's potential customers. He just gave them expo, they now also know what to do to delay justice, when they steal funds and are caught. |

EllaBee: This is my first post, although I've been lurking for a while- hi guysFor a European, you write good English. You must have gone to good schools. No pun intended, toots, but most of the European girls who come on here write so much gibberish you get a headache trying to read them. Or did you by any chance attend a Nigerian school? Back to topic: He loves you and cares for you. If he wasn't buying you all those fancy clothes and shoes, would you be here saying you want to learn to cook his food n learn his culture? Leave the hustler jor.Dont go snooping into his business again..shagg him and mind your business |
I find this quite amazing sha. That someone thinks he is extravagant spending 80k with a wife and kid. I just be regular omo boy o, wey dey stingy with money die, but mehn, here are daily expenses for people of my type. Am a bachelor and I live in Abuja and 80k expenditure is out of this world.i live in Utako…and lets say I buy stuff from Utako market (and cost is the same as Alaba suru or mile 12 market in Lagos) Let me do a rundown for a month and am a bachelor, except the occasional girlfriend or runz girl comes in. I can have friends in, but not that much Bag of rice- mama gold (the bag may last me 2months though, since I always hangout much) - 5k Yams (at 500per tuber for 10tubers)- 5k One carton of turkey (ie 10kilos @9klasts 2weeks) -18k 5kilos of goat meat @1k per kilo -5k Two 4L of Golden gnut oil (one 4l @2k5lasts 2weeks) - 5k Irish potatoes (one basket at 900 so two baskets) say 2k Garri- 1k Semolina (how much is that bag again) 3k Tomatoes (weekly at 700) say 3k Condiments (spices, magi, curry etc) 5k Beverages(milo, milk, magarinne, mayonnaise etc) 2k Carton of canned beer (at 4k8) say 5k Gas (12,5kg cylinder) 4k Cartoon of indomie (at 1k3) say 1k Soup thins 5k Crate of egg (2 a day means 2weeks@ 900 per crate) say 2k Kitchen consumable like morning fresh etc etc 2k Other Household consumables(soap, detergent airfreshener) 10k Now this is 63k (and I didn’t include all those other shoprite or spar mede mede like biscuits, bread, fruits, croissants, etc) Now others Internet 8k BB 3k Ipad dataplan 8k Dstv 12k Fuel 25k Recharge card (at 500daily) 15k Diesel for Gen 15k One for the road (boys tinz) 10k (2beers @500 for me, plus 2friends, 3thrice a week) The nightout 40k ( for one Jack daniels @ 10k every TGIF) People (abeg gimme 5k, gimme 3k) 20k Occassional runz girl (@10k every Friday) 40k (man must carry one every week na) Girlfriend bill (cream, soap, mac, pancake) 50k Houseboy 10k Security contribution 5k Repairs (car unknown) 10k Laundry (at 5k a week) 20k PHCN 5k Almost 300k Added to my 73k kitchen bill, this is almost 400k a month and I earn only a fraction of this. I never put cloth, perfume, maintenance ( like the occassional broken down water pump, burnt transformer etc etc) and other incidentals and out of pocket expenses. From my experience, I believe that any young man who is not married and is living a sparse life, just on the botherline of comfort needs about half a million monthly to survive. If you are married, then multiply by the number of children you have.shikena Life is tough |

....but she is now about to become wife- I may be proposing to her soon. The 1st installment my story I posted here about 5years ago where I talked about a girl I met in my new neighborhood and how all I wanted was to bed her and run. I fell in love and decided to stay. I had series of issues with her (she was cheating with her ex, or rather, with the guy I came to supplant, an older richer guy who had been there before me and who was not willing to let her go) In Part II of my story, which I also posted came in 2008 or 2009, I continued with our odyssey with issues bothering on trust, fidelity and loyalty taking centre stage. I sought advice from folks on here. This I believe will be the concluding part of my saga- the girl I thought will be my booty call then is about to become my wife. Its been 6years since I muscled every one out and seem to be the last man standing. I haven’t proposed to her only because of some issues on my mind which are disturbing me: 1. I haven’t totally forgotten the fact that she cheated on me then and put me through so much emotional turmoil. Am a man who never forgets a slight, never forgives an injury so I hold that grudge against her and have filed it at the back of my mind somewhere, indiscretion for which I feel she must pay for. 2. More worryingly, she has never told me even once that she has taken in since ever since we started making love. Initially, we were always having protected sex but for the past two years now I don’t use a condom. We make love 3 or 4times a month once we are together, but never for once has she told me she has mistakenly taken in. This I find very worrying. 3. I have knocked up a couple of girls before so, am worrying why hers is different. If I go ahead and marry her and we have problems conceiving, I wont don’t think I will give her the necessary support and forbearance a husband needs to show his wife in such times. This is because of the grudge I hold against her for her past misdemeanors. It will be my turn to make her suffer. After all these locust years, I dont want to start running from pillar to post with a wife looking for a child. 4. Besides all these, she is ok and as a wife, I believe she will discharge her duties reasonable well having dated her for 6yrs but at 24now, of course a woman must tuck in and pretend to be well behaved. She was her shortcomings here and there but by how them girls of nowadays come, and against my checklist for behavior, attitude and comportment, I give her 55 or 60/100. 5. Is this enough? So folks, what should I do? Should I plunge? Can a woman who hasn’t taken in before during boyfriend/girlfriend ssexbouts suddenly become fecund after wearing a ring? Your 2cents please. |
Callimo: This has shown that nobody here has been to Ladipo even the OP that took these street shots. How can one take pictures of street traders and push it as LADIPO MARKET.Shut the ffuck up…what do u know? you are just an ignoramus..the one posting rubbish. those pictures (covering only a minute section of the market) depict Ladipo, captures the essence, the spirit, even the environment. It is a microcosym of the Ladipo Ecosystem. Ladipo, is almost like Otigba(computer village) where you have a cluster of makeshift stores dotting, lining and interspersing streets. So you have warehouses, so what? You have banks too. And anyway, ladipo is right around the Matori Industrial Estate so you have a couple of manufacturing industries there- COSBEL ? Cosmetics is a good exampleDo you know that there a number of banks within ladipo? UBA, FCMB, Zenith et al? Those industrial warehouses you have there are not even the soul of the place cos very few people have business in them. Infact you can pass them without ever knowing. Infact you cant even know there is a warehouse because all along the walls or perimeter fencing, you have kioks and stalls and shops. Those pictures depict ladipo intoto- the boys hustling to sell you parts by merely looking at your car and seeing the visible parts that are no longer there, the go betweens struggling to take you to the shops of their benefactors, the mechanics trying to fleece you (they are mostly in their workshops anyway). Th hub or centre of ladipo is that AP filling station- if you are on that filling station –right takes you to Toyota/five star, left to the banks lining the streets and mushin, Idi araba. Infront of you are the various blocks of shops that sell anything from radio knobs to block engines. Like someone said, it is just one massive mechanic village and it cannot be clean because most of those parts come dripping with Enigine oil, so when you have that pouring on the roads, kerbs, shops, and even on humans, what do you expect. In that filth, Ladipo generates billionaires by the second, you have boys who came to lagos with only Ghana must go but who are now millionaires and billionaires. Look down on Ladipo and her boys at your own peril. |
