RomanceRe: She Is Back, After The Rejection-funny Enough by apache77(m): 10:02am On May 13, 2009
Guy, i feel u, and i know wat? so long as u posted dat thread ere, it only means u r trying to hold on, maybe scretly, u want people to tell u to fight for her, its wat ur herat is tellin, though ur head is tellin u to run, u love dis girl, so keepin her in life on a supposedly temporary basis only complicates issues for u, u'l probably only sink more n more into ur own emotions, the right thing to do, though difficult is to let her go, i know it will be difficult for u to do dis, and am quite sure after sampling opinions ere, u'll go bak to her, but, the ball is in ur court, am in a similar sort of situation, i love dis gurl to da bone, ders dis omata guy the mother is pushing her onto, she finally seems to have left the guy but by no means has she left cheating wit someone else, if they do it now, they'l surely do it later, i cant seem to psuh her out of my mind though dats wat every body tells me, i know how it is wit things of the heart, i known her now 3years, and maybe my own differnece is dat my own gurl seems not to be ready for marriage yet, we've broken up now 3weeks and dats a record, i tell myself its one day at a time, soon it will be a month, then two months, then six then i;ll be rid of her, but she knows if she ever came to beg, she knows i'll keel over, so all i want to do is for our separation to last so long i'll healcompletely such dat by the time she comes, i;ll be off her, even now, i know she follows wat am doing on facebook, but do i care, u can follow my story on

PoliticsRe: Investors Threaten To Close Shops At Calabar Free Trade Zone by apache77(m): 10:18pm On May 09, 2009
yea, any investor has to do a proper fesibility study be4 venturing into biznes. even if they come to lagos, wont they pay for diesel here? all companies plus banks in lagos run on diesel, some spend as much as 3m on diesel every month. diz r costs they pass over to d consumer, they ought to have done thier pricing in such a way dat they take into account these costs plus they ought to hav come with enuff workin capital, nigeria is still one of the only countries in the world where a company's sales can increase annually by more than 30% while profits can hit more dan 120% where d global average is around 30% on sales, foreigners who come ere despite every, do u think dey r fools?
Jobs/VacanciesRe: My Embarrassing Interview Situations You Need To Learn From by apache77(m): 3:58pm On Nov 20, 2008
friend, u talk about embarassing job interviews, heck, with the kind of grammer you spill, i can only imagine how u must have made a mess of youreslf on numerous occassions way back, and to thinbk you must have improved by now and u still write such gibberish, not being too harsh though, but do try to soruce up your lingua, i dont know wat employer will keep on his books someone who communicates as poorly as you, but atleast we sha understand u
TravelRe: What Are The Safest Parts Of Lagos? by apache77(m): 2:12pm On Apr 22, 2008
What the hell are u giyz talking about? someone is asking u guys about the safest place to live in lagos and u guys are saying okota, magodo and the like? Does that look or sound like a place any savvy yankee returnee would wnat to stay? Tak my advice dear, anything off the island dont even bother. The island is relatively safe- and i say relatively, and LAgos is not entirely the way these nairalanders are putting it.

I used in to live in Dolphin and because all us were nigth crawlers, almost every night, the door to the flat was always open till morning. Never did we even have a break in. I also lived in 1004 estate and the place was also cool. So for your needs though, i wont recommend Ikoyi or v.i due to congestion, i'll still say v.i extension is it- dat is around shoprite or Oniru or millenium estate. The place is peaceful, there is a police post there too and OPC are also very active. The serenity and quite is what must appeal to you. and if u r the romantic type, u can still afford to take strolls with your wife without the fear of being run over. Plus, accessibility is excellent.U can cut out the leeki ajah holdup by coming through ligali.

Another place to recomend is lekki phase1, anywhere off admiralty. super ambience and the sea breaze is excellent.Quiet too. Ajah is off because of the distance and go slow from the CBD's of Lagos. You wont enjoy it, not even within the much reverred VGC. Within Ikoyi, u can choose to be Dangote's neigbor at Parkview or Osbourne. Anything asides that, maybe old Ikoyi.
RomanceRe: No Finance, No Romance! by apache77(m): 1:10pm On Sep 19, 2007
na2day? na2day, u r so pathetic, u suffer from a complex that hinges on inferioty, dats for sure, look at how desperate u r trying to validate ur status here, nobody knows u , and i doubt if any one ever will, there u went trying to sound off- i browse from home, i have this, i have that- ur rants are just the ugly self promotion of an upstart- i wish u could hear (or is it read) urself, u r a sorry idea of what a man shoiuld be, grow up. there are millions of people like u out there on the streets, mediocres who would never amount to much except what their bosses pay them, i used to think like u (though my thinking was never at the low levels urs is) till got tired of my boss and fired him(know how much he was paying me? 157k less deductions and taxes) and went to set up on ma own.Now thats something u'd never do, its more likely u'd be the one who'd get fired (make hunger no kill u o). U r just a hungry guy, simple, u shdn't think about women, since its so obvious u cant afford these demanding chics.

But come to think of it, there are differnet cadres of women- the low lifers who know they dont even merit to ask a man for money, another category who'd cook for u and even borrow u money, then the sophisticated category who need money by the second and then the social climbers who'd only hang with celebrities. There is a woman out there for every man(and am sure there's one for u too), so u r free to make ur pick. So know its not every woman that demands money, if u r talking about demanding chics then, may be u r looking @ the wwrong places wwithout recourse to ur poor financial state.

The fine chics always have men running after them, even begging to spendd money on them, so they get to know pretty quickly they dont have to pander to a man to get the good things of life. If a woman is not fine and ddoesnt have much traffic on her, then she wont be too confident demanding from a guy she ensnares, would she? So try the really ugly ones. Why would a girl a Chevron or MTN big boy is begging to take out to the Galleria or LaCAsa consider a weasel like u who probably is too broke most of the time to even afford a N200 beer down ur street?

But, do u know how many women on ur own sstreet who would gladly die for u? the phone girl, the one whose mother sells pepper, the local breed, next door- those ones wwould even steal to give u, y should u go for ones who demand. Because u r atracted to them. y r u attrated to them. Because of their glamor and sophistication perhaps. U think when they walk into the saloon, they make their hair for free? If they cant pay Bobbies for their hair, or buy Claarins from their own pocket, then a man somewhere must do that. If the men who foot those bills are not complaining, why sshoud u? Go for the girl who buys N200 powder instead of the one who buys MAary KAy powder for 3k or 5k. Simple.

The world is a simple place and we really are a prodduct of our choices, so makee ur choice andd stop compaling women are hoes and they like money.u will compalin and complain and complain, going to bed with hard ons every night fantasizing about the hott girl next door u cant lay. Know ur level simple.

U dont and thats why frustration rings through ur posts and blogs, ur boss doesnt pay u enough to feed and still want to keep a woman, too bad, earn more money boy----maybe one of these days i'l invite u out and buy u bottle of Dom P or cristal (know what dat is?) @ Reloaded (ever been there before?). If u r too timid to pop cristal or Dom P, i'll buy u a bottle of beer @ the Saipan or Fashion Cafe in Ikoyi (a bottle of beer there costs N900 anyway). There, u'll get to see womeen who really, really, really like money and the guys who never, never, neever mind spending on them.

So, if u dont have money, u dont have any businesss chasing a woman, it becomes torture if u have any ego at all, and its understandable u feel the way u do about women with ur cathedral sized ego and no money. Whether the Dangote's have women who are disaffected is mere polemics, and why shd u call them them dogs? u r just a big fool. U dont know who Otedola is, u r an ignoramuss, he probaly sells u the diesel that powers ur generator at work.

And broke ass boi, u r way out of ma league when it comes to dissing so just take this little piece of advice- make money, then make more money, so when a woman requests for 100k from u, it would be like the little girl of ur neighbour who says u shd give her 5naira. U suffer from poverty of the mind, kits wworse than physical poverty.
LiteratureRe: Do You Write Foreign Fiction? I Do, Lets Talk! by apache77(m): 12:44pm On Sep 17, 2007
BANDERAS- I LIKE READING UR BLOGS COS ATLEAST U SEEM TO KNOW MORE ABOUT WHAT U R DOING THAN ANYONE ELSE HERE. AM NOT SAYING U MUST WRITE ABOUT NIGERIA OR AFRICA, MA ONLY JUST SAYING THAT AS AN AFRICAN OR NIGERIAN LIVING IN NIGERIA, IT IS MUCH MORE REALISTIC AND EASIER TO DO, CREATIVITY IS ALL ABOUT EXTRAPOLATING REALITY, BUT WHEN U DO THAT FOR CLIMES U'R NOT TOO CONVERSANT WITH AND TRY TO SELL THEM TO PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE, ITS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT. U CAN WRITE ABOUT WHAT EEVERR U WANT, AM NOT DISPUTING THAT, BUT REALLY, LETS BE FRANK, HOW MANY INDIGENT NIGERIANS HAVE SUCCEEDED IN PLACING BOOKS ON THE SHELVES, PUBLISHED BY FOREIGN PUBLISHERS ON THEMES SET IN EUROPE OR MEDITERENEAN? GIVE ME ONE. U SEEM TO BE QUITE KNOWLEDGEABLE, BUT I CAN BET U,U WONT COME UP WITH A NAME.

U SEE, THE WHITEMAN ADOPTS A VERY SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TO EVERYTHING HE DOES- HE VISITS LOCATIONS PHYSICALLY, RESEARCHES HIS THEMES, GETS A FEL OF THE NATIVES ANDD BINGO, WHEN HE WRITES A BOOK, HE SELLS MILLIONS OF COPIES- WHEN MICHEAL CRICHTON WROTE THE CONGO, DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY MONTHS HE SPENT IN THE ZAIRE AND DRC? WHY WONT HE BE A SUCCEESS. WHEN WILBUR SMITH WROTE THAT SEMINAR BOOK, THE 7TH SCROLL(HE IS AN AFRICAN ANYWAY- A ZAMBIAN), HE MEANDERED BETWEEN LONDON, EGYTPT AND ETHIOPIA. H WROTE ABOUT AFRICA AND EUROPPE IN SUCH A FASCINATING MANNER THAT THE BOOK HAS BEEN MADE INTO A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE. MAYBE U SHD LOOK FOR THAT BOOK. IT MAY HELP UR VIEW.
DO YOU KNOW FREDERIC FORSYTH WROTE THE DOGS OF WAR DRAWING HEAVILY ON HIS EXPEERINCE IN NIGERIA? MATTER OF FACT, BIAFRA STORYWAS HIS DEBUT WORK AND HIS REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES IN THE PLACES HE WROTE ABOUT CATAPULTED HIM TO THE LEVEL HE IS TODAY

JAMES HADLEY CHASE NEVER VISITED MAERICA EXCEPT A 15MINUTE STOP ONCE SOMEWHEREIN FLORIDA, BUT HE WAS SEVERALLY REFFERED AS THE BRITTISH KING OF THE TOUGH AMERICAN TRADITION. THAT WAS ONE OF THE FEW EXCEPTIONS, BUT THEN THERE ISNT THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE CULTURAALLY BETWEEN AMERICA AND BRITAIN, IS THERE? THEY ARE COUSINS.

ABOUT STEPHEN KING, STEPHEN NEVER WROTE ABOUT AFRICA BECOS HE'S PRROBABLY NEVER BEEN HERE BEFORE. I BET IF HE ONLY SPENT 5MINUTES HERE, HE'LL SPOT TONS OF STORIES U SSITTING RIGHT HERE CANT SEEE AND HE'LL BE SMILING TO HIS BANK. AND NO, ACHEBE, ACHEBE NEVER GOT 35MILLION BECAUSE HE IS NOT A COMMERCIAL WRITER- COMMERCIAL WRITERS ARE THE GRISHAMS, THE CLANCYS, THE JK ROWLINGS, THE FORSSYTHS, JACKIE COLLINS WHO EARN MILLIONS FROM ROYALTIES BUT WOULD NEVER WIN A NOBEL. ACHEBE BELONGS TO THE CLASS OF , SSHD I SAY INTELLECTUAL WRITERS LIKE THE SOYINKAS, THE JM COETZE'S, THE MORRISSONS, THE OKRI'S, THE RUSHDIE'S- MEN WHO KEEEP WINNING PRIZES LEEFT, RIGHT ANDD CENTRE BUT ARE PROBABLY POOR (COMPARED TO THEIR COMMERCIAL COUNTERPARTS). THERE IS A WIDE GULF BETWEEN THE TWO AND ITS GOOD U'VE DECIDE EARLY ON WHICH DIVIDE U BELONG. LUCK IN WHAT U R DOING ANYWAY

cONST6- LOOK NOBODY IS HERE TO ARGUE WITH U, GO AHEAD AND WHEN THAT BOOK IS ON THE SHELVES BE IT MADRID, lONDON, OR LAGOS I'D BE THE FIRST PEROSN TO BUY IT. i WAS JUST OFFERING UNSOLICITED ADVICE BUT WE OFTEN NEED SUCH ADVICE BRUTTALY FOR IT TO SSINK IN.OFCOURSE AFTER MY BLOG, U MUST HAVE DONE A MENTAL AUDIT, THOUGH U MAY NOT ADMIT IT. U R SHOWING US MAILS OF 2005 AND FEB 2006, ALMOST 2YEARS AGO-WHERE ARE UR CONTRACT PAPERS? GOTTEN A DEAL YET? AND WHO TELLS U THAT BEING PUBLISHED IS THE END OF IT? U HAVE TO SELL COPIES U KNOW? WRITE SOMETHING PEOPLE WOULD BUY, SIMPLE.

IF U HAVE SO MUCH MONEY AS U CLAIM, SELF PUBLISH UR BOOK, PUT IN FOR THE CAINE AND ORANGE PRIZE? WHAT ARE U WAITING FOR? IF U WIN, U R ON A ROLL. HELON HABILLA DID THAT A COUPLE OF YAERS AGO AND HE HAS BEEN HOT EVER SINCE.
AND DONT GO ABOUT TELLING PEOPLE U WORK FOR MOBIL, THE QUALITY OF UR WORK SUGGEST OTHERWISE OR HAVE THEY LOWERED THEIR STANDARDS? MAYBE U R A CORE ENGINEER? DAT WOULD EXPLAIN IT. U DONT HAVE TO VALIDATE URSELF HERE FOR ANYONE, IT SEEMSS AS IF U R STRUGGLING FOR LEGITIMACY IN LITERAY CLIMES.
ANYWAY, AM NOT UR ENEMY, AM WISHING U THE BEST REALLY.
RomanceRe: No Finance, No Romance! by apache77(m): 11:40pm On Sep 16, 2007
NA2DAY, I DIDNT REALLY WANT TO REPLY U, BUT REALLY U R FULL OF SHIT, TOPIC IS- NO FINANCE, NO ROMANCE AND THERE U WENT AT A TANGENT TALKING ABOUT INDIA AND TV SETS. i THINK EMPLOYERS SHD DO SOMETHING ABOUT BROKE ASS NIGGERS LIKE U WHO KEEP POSTING NONSENSE ON WEBSITES FROM THEIR DESKS AT WORK WHEN U OUGHT TO BE EARNING UR STIPEND THAT CANNOT EVEN TAKE U HOME. WORD OF ADVICE- DONT THINK ANYBODY WHO SAYS MEN SHD MAKE MORE MONEY TO GET DEM CHICS IS AN ENEMY. U R THE TYPE WHO KEEP COMPLAINING ABOUT WOMEN LIKING MONEY, YOU COMPALIN AND COMPLAIN AND COMPLAIN WHILE THE LIKES OF THE OTEDOLAS, DANGOTES DONT EVEN NOTICE WOMEN LIKE MONEY, KNOW WHY? COS THEY GAT PLENTY, SO PEOPLE LIKE U HAVE A VICTIM MINDSET, U FEEL U  ARE VICTIMS OF THE SYSTEM, WOMEN SIMPLY DONT LOVE U GUY, AND THEY WONT EVEN IF U DIED AND CAME BACK, BECAUSE, U R REALLY THE POOR MAN U R ACCSSING SOMEONE ELSE OF BEING.
NEXT TIME DONT GO LECTURING ABOUT INDIAN PMS AND TV SETS WHEN WE ARE TALKING ABOUT ROMANCE AND FINANCES- U R SO SO BORINGAND OFF CUE. IF EVERYBODY WAS LIKE U ON HERE, NAIRALAND WOULD HAVE CLOSED DOWN SINCE. MY FINAL TAKE IS- AND WHETHER U LIKE IT OR NOT- THERE MUST BE MONEY FOR THERE TO BE ROMANCE. AM QUITE SURE U R THE STINGY TYPE WHO GIVEES HIS WOMAN NUTHING, LITTLE WONDER SHE'S SCREWING THE GUY DOWN UR STREET. GUYS LETS MAKE MORE MONEY MEN, AND LEAVE THE LIKES OF NA2DAY (HEAR HIS NAME SEF? U DONT HAVE TO MEET HIM TO KNOW THE TYPE OF PERSON HE IS) TO KEEP WHINING, MURMURRING AND COMPLAINING. WORD!!

CONST 6- u are actually pathetic-no pun intended. Sorry if i am not pulling any punches here. U r no good if ur synopsis is anything to go by. Dont let aanybody here deceive you, too many people are too polite about our abilities, so they let us waste our time. Its either u go and polish ur writing before hastily sending it for representaion or you go and get a salaried job. Am sure no agent has replied you, and none would. That you placed your work here for review atleast shows that you are a man who does not beleive that he knows it all. It means you are willing to learn, and in life that is the most important thing- go back to the basics-and when i mean basics, i dont mean the classrooms, buy novels, see the logical representation of thought, listen to the voice of the author, get into his mind, see the use of the tools of language, his use of similies, metaphors, tenses, dscriptive compositions and the like. You dont have to understudy a James Clavell or a Jk Rowling or buy Haarry Potter, no go the elementary novels so u can learn.

For the type of plot u have in mind- go and pick up JAAMES Hadley Chase, he is the greatest. Pay close attention to how he decribes cities, women, people generally and schemes. See how he builds up suspense leading to a shattering denouement. then write and write and write till ur knuckles turn white, then post something here like u have done and wait for positive responses, then email ur agent. Anything outside this, and u r wasting ur time.

BAndera's- thnx for agreeing with me. NOw dont mind that Orikinla guy or whatever he calls himself- he is a fraud. How can he say $100 is okay for a critique. He probably hopes his Nigerian editor will get the naira equivalent to critique the work of this unsuspecting guy. How do we know its not even orikinla himself that is the nigerian editor, for all u know, he doesnt even know where the international airport is located. Where i know for sure he is a frauid is where he talks about a nigerian banker who is now a writer. why didnt he mention her name? What are her titles. Some poeple think everybody is gullible on here. Now how can ur american editor collect $12 per page. This guy should be shot. Instead of trying to help upcoming authors, he is trying to fleece them.

Get good wwork, pitch ur work, pray u get a good agent that takes ur work around and hipe for the best

Banderas- he he he, sum1 replied me, dat was actually my first post on naira land.Bin a member here a week? so for being my first reply, i'l show u sum respect. When i posted that blog, it was merely advice, giving my own perspective. Whether u take it or not is left to u. whether u r right or wrong, ur status in 5 or ten years will tell. That said though, i know u dont want to be a great nigerian writer- i guess u made that comment cos i talked about achebe and adiche. U may be forgiven for alluding that adichie is a great nigerian writer, but achebe? Come on, if u r a writer, its best u start with knowing the pedigree of those who have gone a head of u. Achebe is not a great nigerian writer, he is a wolrd reknown writer, who just won the man booker prize(given to the beest work in atleast 25years). I dont have to start telling you about Achebe's achievements.

Now Wole Soyinka picked up his Nobel not bbeacuse he wrote about New York or Murder plots set on luxury yatchs on the atlantic but because of plots set right here. And this is not about limiting one's self, its about creating a nich for yourself. Its just about defineing territory. for what you want to do or are already doing, there are millions out there wwriting similar stuff. Thank God, u r aware so if u structured ur offerings along more traditional lines or even contemporary Nigerian or African themes, it would seem as if u were a pioneer in the eyes of those so called agents or publishers, cos Nigerian writers have not glutted that market out there yet.

If u r writing about Knights in shining armours, dats not Nigerian or African, is it. Am saying u must right about Nigeria or Africa, but just give the white man a new slant to ur own experince and he'll pay top dollar. u'l be surprised after ur first published work that they would be advancing u 3million green backs for ur next two works. If GP PUTNAM could give Stephen King $35million advance, y cant they give a Nigerian writer? But, we have to be original. you can write about u and become a wworld calss writer- u have more depth. Dont for once imagine that its only about writing about them that u can hit it. I tell u, its easier this way. Word
LiteratureRe: Do You Write Foreign Fiction? I Do, Lets Talk! by apache77(m): 9:40am On Sep 06, 2007
I am very tempted to call those who write foreign fiction losers but i wont. But then ask urself, how many of these people have been published? If u live in America or UK and u write about those climes, good, but sitting right here in Lagos and writing about manhattan? come on? the guy who said he has a manuscript since 1981 that got burnt, whats he gotten since? nothing and my guess is, he wont get published. all of them claim to have agents representing them in new york or where ever. Agents come a dime a dozen, but try getting published with harper collins or corgi or Avon and see where it gets u, exactly no where. Of course, there may be few exceptions, but exceptions are never the norm, they remain exceptions.

My point is, u cant try to tell Americans about America, u cant try to sell to America what is theirs. Ur best bet is sell to Americans what is alien to them, write about Nigeria,  about aAfricaand export it to them, they'll pay anything for that. Chinua aAchebedid that in 1958, and he is still relevant today- he just won the man booker prize weeks ago for a work that is more than 50years old. DDon'tlet anybody ddeceiveyou, u will just keep on paying huge sums for critiques without a deal.

If u were more original, more aAfrican u stand  a better chance of getting a lolook iny the big publishing houses. Why do u think the Ben Okri's, the Chimamanda ngozi Adichies etc who live in the UK and US still turn back to Nigeria as scenes for their plots? Because they know their only hope of  beating the Grishams, the Puzos and Clancy's to better deals at the same publishing houses is to give the editors manuscripts that dondon'tlk about launch systems of nuclear submarines, or biometric denial systems of museums but culturally relevant or even contemporary themed Nigerian novels.

A word is enough for the wise, else, you'll be chasing shadows writing stupid manuscripts and not getgettingblished till ur landlord comes to stop your foolish quest with a knock and his rent papers. When u cant pay, u''l sadly have to go back to your village.
RomanceRe: No Finance, No Romance! by apache77(m): 9:05am On Sep 06, 2007
first time i am contributing here on nairaland, and i must say that for Nigerian men, our biggest blesing is our women and their demanding anture. If not for dem gurls, u wont believe just how many men would still be waking up in their houses(for those that have houses) by 10am. When u know that you cant get laid by dem chics becos u r too poor, u know u just have to go out to make this money, the gurls and their attitude is a challenge and not a problem- it just depends on ur orientation to determine which side u belong, instead of complaining and sulking- go and make money- why shouldn't a woman u meet on the street care whether u have money or not, when even in ur house, ur mother( though she may not admit it) probabbly regards ur richer junior brother more cos he gat more money
