How will you believe when you are there roasting, you don't need to be rich to own a house in Nigeria, even with N100K steady monthly income some people have been able to save up and own their own house, it depends on the state they live and the way they save(the cost of living varies in states)

OK, seriously. Tell us the states in Nigeria where a man earning N100K can build a decent (by that I mean at least a 2 or 3 bedroom bungalow w/ 2 bathrooms) house in 2017. Show us where such things are possible please I'm sure many readers on here would want to know how to build houses on a 100K salary and still cover regular living costs.

It appears the people posting on this page do not understand what we have been debating about on this thread from the beginning.

Nobody is campaigning for anyone to just up and leave Nigeria. Nobody is questioning anyone's loyalty or patriotism. Not everyone should leave Nigeria and not everyone can even leave. My comments (and I believe those who have taken a similar position) are directed specifically to the project manager in the original post. A realistic assessment of his situation and the opportunities available to him took the discussion to the point it is at now.

If you are enjoying your life in Nigeria, by all means, continue to stay there, help to develop and grow the nation. Nigeria needs more of your kind. What I come down hard on are the folks who in trying to discourage the pm (and by extension those in a similar position) from trying other places paint an untrue picture of what life in Nigeria is.

Many public holidays: New Years (January), Family Day (February), Easter (April), Canada Day - My birthday (July 1), Labour Day (September), Thanksgiving (October), Christmas (December). Pheeew, that's all I can think of! And they often fall close to the weekend, meaning you would get Friday, Saturday, Sunday off; or it could be Saturday, Sunday and Monday off. I don't think Nigeria has these many public holidays.

About him being away from his family, if he's married, he can always bring his wife and kids over later. Or he can be visiting them till they arrive.

Re: Public holidays. Nigeria celebrates most of the holidays you have listed, in addition to those are May 29th Democracy Day, Labour Day May 1st, Independence Day and all the Muslim holidays. Easter in Nigeria is usually celebrated on a Friday and Monday whereas in Canada Easter Monday is a holiday only for federal government workers or select regions. I still think Nigeria has more holidays.

Winter is not a big deal - for certain kinds of people. I myself now prefer winter days to be at least just below sub-freezing at the minimum (I love winter ) but let's not kid ourselves, for many people who grew up in the tropics the cold remains a challenge. Canada, after all, is one of the coldest countries in the world so this may be a huge deterrent for many who don't like cold.

What you present as evidence does nothing to support the narrative that Nigerians are being targeted. They are all reports of the new and expanded scope of directives issued to border officials. As reported and included in your links the new mandate of the border agents is this: the detention and if warranted, the eventual removal from the US of those found to have violated immigration laws. "These include people convicted of fraud in any official matter before government and people who have abused any program relating to the receipt of public benefits." These are the types of people that previous administration turned a blind eye to and who the media is agitating for to remain in the US.

Why was I expecting figures to show those turned back or detained at the borders so we could compare with a previous date? Please lemme retire for the night.

Maybe i didn't state my initial thesis clearly so i will be clear this time. There are more deportations now in the Trump administration than there were in the Obama administration at this juncture in the Obama administration because the Trump administration has made it a priority and they have expanded the criteria for deportation and detention giving immigration officials more discretion than before. To execute this massive operation there are more immigration enforcement officials and border patrol agents and this guys have been given broader powers and expanded criteria required for deportation.
So while Trump's travel ban has been struck down as illegal, the deportations have continued at a much higher pace than they were at this time than any previous administration (including Obama's)

What is happening in the airports now is a spillover effect of Trump's initial travel ban. Just like You have had a rise in hate crimes since Trump has been elected into office the same thing is going on with detentions at airports and refusals. This is one of the multiplier effects of policies passed at the top. That's why leadership matters a lot, especially executive leadership because the higher you are the bigger the impact you have downstream; intended or unintended. You have heard of the law of unintended consequences right?

Thank you for clearly stating your position. In the same vein, please provide evidence of the claimed increase in deportations so that we can all analyse to determine if there is indeed a targeting of Nigerians or Africans which has been the point of this thread. I maintain that the hues and cries of so-called unfair deportations are so far the product of political bodies and the media that are still smacking from defeat at the last November 8 polls. Up until now the impression he had been giving was that people were not denied or detained at the POE by border officials in the past, that this all started because of Trump. Right now he has changed his position saying the rate of denials has increased. We will wait for him to provide specifics on how this rate has supposedly increased.

Trump is a controversial figure and that's without a doubt. What has been playing out in the leftist bent mainstream media is a sad comedy where every one of his actions is presented by them as actions of victimisation or abuse. As a graduate - computer engineering one for that matter, the OP should have used the wealth of information available on the internet to do some basic research about what work opportunities and living conditions are like in the countries he may be interested in moving to before coming to ask what are clearly poorly thought-out questions here.

It is assumed that the OP has, first of all, addressed the basic questions why he wants to leave his home country and travel to a foreign land just to "hustle". Why are you seemly unable to leverage your education in computer engineering at home or in the other countries you want to run to?

Of course, in typical 9ja fashion, some wiseacres here have derided the well-meant advice that the OP should work on his writing skills (something that is probably part of the reason the OP is unable to find professional employment). And people still wonder why the country is not making any progress with this kind of open resistance to learning and personal development?

The truth of the matter is that the collateral effects of the Trump ban has ensnared a lot of people who are not from the banned countries. We are seeing border patrol sending people back home easily. I guess they have been giving more authority than they ever have and they can turn you back for any reason now.

If you have never had to cross into the US multiple times you shouldn't be talking about border patrol as this people can send you back for any reason even if you have a legal status that's how powerful they are and now that they have been more emboldened, who knows what they would do?

It is amusing how you choose to ignore the fact that border agents and TSA officials developed a 'reputation of notoriety' that pre-dates the current temporary travel ban.

How do you explain all the detentions and denials of entry that occurred before 2017?

How do you also explain the cases of hundreds, if not thousands of Nigerians who have successfully gained entry to the States even after the executive order issuing the travel ban had been signed? I personally know of a friend whose trip to the US a few weeks ago was via Turkey, a largely Muslim country, he had no issues at all at his point of entry - JFK Int'l airport.

Much of the hysteria and panic in the media is fueled by people who have political objectives, that is why all this is made to appear to have just started in 2017.

Not everyone is fooled.

In fact, dig back to 2009 when saint Obama was in office and you will see that border agents and TSA officials have been detaining and turning back some supposedly 'valid travelers' since then. All of this did not start in 2017 and so saying that it's a result of Trump's executive order is false.

All of those cases were unique and until the specific reasons or what truly transpired at the POE are released then what is going on here is just speculation and fear mongering.

Till the specifics of this story are made known then all you'll hear is pure speculation. People are denied entry on a range of infractions, many of which those denied do not reveal. With this temporal travel ban, everyone and their mother who gets denied can use this as a cover.

In issuing the travel warning statement the Nigerian govt is playing along with the script created by the leftist bent mainstream media. This is a classic case of fear uncertainty and doubt being spread by a govt official who should know better.

Nigeria is not among the group of countries that are under the US temporal travel ban. The US reserves the right to vet travelers entering its borders, a visa does not translate to automatic admittance. Travelers must first clear with the border agent at the POE otherwise they will be sent back.

It is very likely that the Nigerians who were sent back violated the stipulations accompanying their visas in one way or the other. Defaulters have been sent back in the past even during the Obama administration, this has nothing to do with Trump.

Hmmm. I'm not so sure about that. Hardware alone is not a guaranty for success in this smartphone era, it may have been decisive in the early 2000s before the rise of smartphones but things have certainly changed. Now user experience, device performance, support and integration are just as crucial as hardware, maybe even more. Besides, there are some heavyweight OEMs with great build histories who have been with Android from the get-go who are still struggling painfully to this day; case in point - Sony.

I don't think moving to Windows was bad at the time, it was what Microsoft did afterwards that pretty much killed the platform.

We think this time Nokia/HMD picked the right partner - Google. Microsoft wasn't ready in time, meanwhile Google has brought Android to a dominant 80% market share around the world. Stephen Elop was proven wrong - customizability did not prove to be Android's downfall.

So your reason of not made by Nokia doesn't hold water. They chose a more than competent manufacturer.

Actually, that wasn't Stephen's reason for not going with Android. The concern then was that Nokia would struggle to differentiate itself amongst the sea of android OEMs, this is something that still continues to plague Android phone makers to this day. Microsoft offered something different, a unique platform to build upon alas Microsoft's post-acquisition strategy for Windows phone was poorly executed and the whole platform suffered for this.

It will be interesting to see how Nokia's brand will fare going forward. Only very few OEMs are actually making a profit with Android, the competition is fierce in that space. The not-so-new comers like Xaomi and Oppo continue to eat into the market share of big brands like Samsung. I think Nokia will have to be very modest in its ambition if it's going to see any success under Android.

Many people tend to settle for Toronto and Vancouver because these cities have a large number of businesses and opportunities for employment compared to other Canadian cities. This is the main reason why you'll hear more about them than other places like say Saskatoon. What naturally follows from this is that the cost of living is relatively cheaper in Saskatoon than in Toronto or Vancouver (the country's highest)

The climate in Saskatchewan where Saskatoon is located can be described as one of the extremes. Winter there is very cold with temperatures dropping to the -40s C and lower - and this is not even considering wind chill. Summer is warmer there when compared to many other Canadian cities too.
