The way the UK crime agency is latching on to the 27 thousand pounds makes it looks like they have a weak case. With all the stories flying out of the rumour mill one would think millions of pounds have been seized from Diezani.

Workman JE, Freeburg EW., Sex Roles, Volume 41, Numbers 3-4, 261-277 (1995)

This study found in part that the way a woman choose to dress is sometimes taken as a statement about her character including vulnerability, desire and/or willingness to have sex and provocation of males which consequently affects the likelihood of rape, including date rape.

The effects of clothing and dyad sex composition on perceptions of sexual intent: Do women and men evaluate these cues differently.
http://nicolas.gueguen.free.fr/Articles/PsyRep2011.pdf
Abbey, A., Cozzarelli, C., McLaughlin, K., & Harnish, R. J. (1987) Journal of Applied Social Psychology, 17, 108–126.

Partial abstract:

A laboratory study was conducted in which subjects viewed a photograph of two students in a classroom. As predicted, male subjects rated female targets as more sexy and seductive than did female subjects. Also as predicted, female targets who wore revealing clothing were rated as more sexy and seductive than those wearing nonrevealing clothing. Female targets were rated higher on sexual traits regardless of the gender of their partner

While it is an unpopular view, I think it is safe to say that provocative dress may increase the chance of rape in some situations.

By the way I do intend to show you a thousand and one cases where the major motivation for rape was sexual gratification right after you do my own research.

Great. I didn't even see this before I posted my reply to your other comment.

Let the filtering begin: show that provocative dressing is unconnected to this motive for rape.

This is how people fail exams, I just asked you to pull out 20 threads and show me at least 1 case that has provocative dressing as the major motivation and you are charting off course. Do the nairaland statistics I asked for first then we can discuss the rightness or wrongness of my hypothesis.

It's either you tell me you found such and such number or you found none, I didn't ask how many were minors or adults yet.
Even outside nairaland not all cases will be reported so let's work with the ones that are reported here I.e nairaland as our case study.

So, give me an objective answer to my previous question then we can have a good debate.

Oh my. Madam examiner you are trying to be too smart by half.

I want to prove that there are no Asians in Africa so I tell a resident of Kano to go out on his street and ask the first 20 people he sees if they are Asians. He may never meet a single Asian on his street, or in his stay in Kano for decades for that matter, yet that proves nothing.

That's the exact same intellectual acrobatics you are trying to pull here.

The rape cases reported on Nairaland are obvious cases where we can all discount provocative or target dressing. Why? Because the victims are usually sexually immature or minors. You were furnished with two simple scenarios earlier to prove whether target dressing influenced rape or not but you skidded over them in favour of this clearly flawed test.

So for the sake of lucidity present data of rape cases where the motive of the rapist is clearly known to be sexual gratification then strain to see whether the rapist was uninfluenced by slutty dressing.

That's sciency enough right?

While we are testing hypothesis and what-nots, pray answer me this: Why would any (sane) woman take it upon herself to dress non-provocatively if she is compelled to enter an area that is a known den of criminals? What informs her choice to give off the least amount of sexual cues with her dressing in that scenario?

Let's take statistics, I'll leave you to make conclusion from the result of the statistics which will prove my hypothesis that what you are wearing has no effects on whether you get raped or not.

Yeah except that the cases that are reported on this forum usually involve the rape of a minor - obvious instances where dressing can be discounted as a factor.

To prove your hypothesis bring forth cases where it is proven that sexual gratification was the motivator for the rapist then show the effect (or lack of) that target dressing had in triggering the sexual desire that led to that rape.

The four motivations for rape are sexual gratification,
anger rape, power rape, and sadistic rape. Sexual
gratification is generally believed to be the motivation
behind acquaintance and date rape. Anger rape is
generally not premeditated, but it is violent and spurred
by anger and resentment toward women. Power rape is
spurred by the need to control and dominate. Sadistic
rape is usually premeditated and ritualized, frequently
subjecting victims to degradation, mutilation, torture, or
murder. (Rathus, S.A., Nevid, J.S., and Fichner-Rathus,

The majority of the sexual attacks (55-61%) committed

This study by Theresa Meiner, focuses on the topic: Sexy
Dressing Revisited: Does Target Dress Play a Part in
Sexual Harassment Cases? You can find the entire study
here http://scholarship.law.duke.edu/cgi/
viewcontent.cgi?article=1109&context=djglp . Her
conclusion:
When I began research for this article, I expected to find
many cases involving allegations that the plaintiff
“welcomed” the sexual harassment by her workplace
attire. I was surprised to find that this was a rare case.
Defendants were not using the woman’s dress to weasel
out of claims, but instead, the woman’s dress most
commonly was present in allegations by plaintiffs.
Plaintiffs frequently raised comments about their dress
as part of their sexual harassment allegations. This
would seem to open the door to defendants, who might
use evidence of target dress to argue that the plaintiff
welcomed the harassment. Yet, that was not the case. I
have tried to account for the lack of case law and, in the
process, have gone back to the root cause of sexual
harassment: power. Sexual harassment is about power;
therefore, a target who is dressed provocatively is not
the ideal target for the would-be harasser, who appears
motivated at least in part by his ability to dominate his
victim. Provocative dress does not necessarily signify
submissiveness but instead may be an indication of
confidence and assertiveness. It is clear, however, that
comments about dress directed at plaintiffs are a
component of sexual harassment allegations. Comments
about dress are used to undermine working women’s
authority and should be considered seriously by courts
assessing sexual harassment claims.
From this study we may be moved to conclude that the
more provocatively dressed a woman is dressed the less
likely she is to be harassed. This finding seems to agree
with this feed shared by @Cherox in which I was copied
http://www.buzzfeed.com/jtes/sexual-assault-survivors-
answer-the-question-what-were-you-w . Most of the
women in this interview were definitely not provocatively
dressed.
Do well to check out the pdf file below

I did read through and I have questions.

This line from the PDF Myth: Rape victims provoke the attack by wearing provocative clothing
• Victims range in age from days old to those in their nineties, hardly provocative dressers.

This shows that victims may come from any age group and that target dressing, to borrow the lingo, is not a universal factor in rape cases. This we already agree on. What still remains unanswered is whether target dressing has no influence whatsoever in victims who were sexually mature. It almost like they are saying that absence of evidence is evidence of absence.

In the first link it says one of the motivators of rape is sexual gratification but it does not elaborate further on this in a manner that satisfies us. Here is my question again; is sexual gratification completely uninfluenced by target dressing?

The other link about sexual harassment in the work place raises even more questions. Theresa Meiner leans to the conclusion that the more provocatively a woman is dressed the less likely she is to be harassed. Is this a conclusion that also holds outside of the workplace?

Again my impression from all of these is this; It almost like they are saying that absence of evidence is evidence of absence.

Apparently you just jumped into this debate without reading the submissions on the other pages. I have said repeatedly that we agree that not all rape cases are caused by a lady's dressing or lack of. The point me and several other posters having been making is that ladies will do well to not dress in a provocative or slutty manner in order not to incite criminals. Nowhere was it said that such dressing was the cause of ALL rapes, how many times does that need to be repeated on this thread? Haba.

It's a deep sitted psychological disorder not arising from clothing.

Even if every woman in the world would face veils like the Arabs, rapists would still rape that. It won't reduce the incidences.

I get really pissed off when educated people make stupid assumptions without doing any research.

Rape doesn't have anything to do with clothing, rapists are not incited by what you are wearing. As soon as they get the opportunity whether you are fully clothed or not they would do what they know how to do best.

If there was any correlation between clothing and rape do you not think that there should be no incidences of rape in places like the middle east, India inclusive

Whoa! shocked So we have it on your authority that the scanty cladding on supple bodied female will have no effect on a criminal minded man whatsoever. It will not incite in any form a sex-starved man with no regard for personal restraint to have sex.

OK.

How many mothers and sisters out there are willing to put your claim to the test? Ladies please in order to prove this please dress only in a perforated bra and g-string, make sure you oil your bodies down to a glossy sheen too for good measure, then take a lazy stroll through the notorious streets of Compton or Mushin at night. Please! Stop taking the West as an example to prove how feminism has made their lives unbearable. Despite feminism, men in the West are MUCH MORE satisfied with their lives than Nigerian men. As a matter of fact, in MANY Western countries feminism is not even being discussed any longer. Men and women feel that they have reached a level of equality they are satisfied with. Men in the West do not suffer like Nigerian men. Why is that so?

Feminism is no longer discussed in many Western countries? Men and women there have reached a level of equality they are satisfied with? Wow. This is news to me. I wonder why protests like slut walks are organised yearly in several cities of many of these western countries. I wonder why they still bother with Free The Nïpple parades. I also wonder why there is also a rise in the Men's Right Movements activities in the west. Those men in the manosphere nko, what are they talking about then?

Men are satisfied with their lives in the west yet the number of men who are willing to consider marriage - something which has been de-incentivised for men by feminism - is dropping annually.

Men are satisfied with their lives in the West even when they stand a higher chance of having the state take away their children and strip them (the men) of their wealth in the event that their marriages collapses?

It's funny that you presume to speak for the satisfaction of men in the West. It's also expected as has been asserted earlier that you would conflate the effects of feminism with the travails of a third world economy and fail to see that we are discussing about two completely different issues.

Try again.

Family / Re: Girl Destroys Feminism In Just 3 Minutes. by ApexTitan(m): 1:49pm On Oct 01, 2015
It is completely false when people say femimism and it's effect have no bearing on men in this country. They are oblivious to the fact that the current wave of feminism is creating a world where men are immediately presumed culpable if not responsible for all of society's failings. The blanket sexism and stereotype it levels against men EVERYWHERE coupled with its push for special privileges for women is what many people, men and women, have against the movement.

The denigration of men (and traditional marriage structures) in the West which feminism inadvertently champions is cause for concern for men everywhere seeing as the movement and it's ideology gradually seeps into this part of the world under the guise of progressiveness.

How can somebody like this be taken seriously? Much more unfortunate is the fact that these kinds of people will raise children. What they foolishly fail to realise is that the so-called movement for equality they want to kill themselves over is a dying movement in the wst they hold as the epitome of paradise. Only about 18% of Americans identify as feminists, that's male and female by the way, the word has become so tainted more than half of the US wanted the word banned before they nearly went over a cliff. Banned! grin . It's a shame that our dry-skinned sisters and their mothers, Chilli I see you, would sheepishly tag along something they don't understand likes flies latching on to shiit.

I find it funny that on the fourth page of this thread, not one acclaimed feminist has been able to refute a single claim made by this supremely more intelligent sister of theirs. I await, though. There might yet be hope.

Let's await that well balanced refutation then it might still come.

*

An observation though: while the realisation is gradually spreading in the US that the feminist movement is actually driven by duplicitious intentions I think that a very large part of mainstream society is still very much under its grip. Child custody laws, divorce and alimony rulings and even the popular media still appear to operate under its dictates. People might shy away from labelling themselves as feminists but you still see them pushing for feminine-primary arrangements by their actions.

Yeah, so when statistics provided by veritable institutions like the DoJ and FBI don't align with your position we are to term them lies? Hmmm

Rape incidents are under reported everywhere not just in India, this includes the almighty US of A with its current high numbers. So if we factor the unreported cases into available records the figures will rise for all the countries in question again even for our much revered America.
