Many people, even supporters of Buhari, still believe that Buhari's executive power in a democracy is complete and overarching. The distinction between a democracy and a dictatorship is yet to be fully appreciated by them (and I daresay, going by some of his comments during this and previous elections, that Buhari himself does not fully realise this difference)

Regardless whether the concerns about CAN are genuine or not, it is not Buhari's place to probe such an organisation. CAN is not an extension of government and so is not answerable to it nor does the Nigerian constitution recognise CAN. The OP's
suggestion, assuming it is even remotely possible, is at best a political minefield. The blowback from any government sanctioned probe of this nature can wreck presidencies.

Buhari might as well probe FIFA or the International Boys Scout if he is to probe CAN.

Now we are being re-educated on what exactly was said during the campaigns.

The impression given then was that Jonathan's government was the worst thing to happen to Nigeria. This new administration has come to power based on the promise of total change, all this talk of continuation (even though it's just on Nairaland for now) smacks of double standards and insincerity.

The campaigns are over and the election has been won, the reality of the situation is dawning on many people that's why there is now a covert attempt in reducing expectations that were purposely allowed to be bloated and looking at the outgoing administration's policies for any form of support.

I don't think it's just the elites that are responsible for the poor rate of development in the north, there appears to be amongst them a culture that shuns the objectives of the MDG because it is perceived to be a Western thing. Many northerners continue to see the west as evil and so resist, even to their detriment, these urgings to improve themselves.

This is just my opinion, I may be wrong about it though.

Fully operational local refineries & the end of importation of refined petroleum products.

All the points listed by the OP should lead to the provision of the above listed points and more, anything short of this is not good enough.

One can easily counter all the points cited by the OP but for now I choose to focus on this. The instance presented by the OP is not only skewed but in fact inaccurate. Buhari from all indications only respects the rule of law when it is on his side, in the past, when his desires or aims were not in alignment with the prevailing provisions of the law he sidelined it and took matters in his own hands.

How can anyone honestly say that a person who spearheads a coup d'eta respects the rule of law?

Why did Buhari not trust the rule of law and let it deal fairly with those student unions and press houses that spoke against his dictatorship instead of resorting to jailing and banning them?

Buhari does not respect the rule of law - he believes that he is the law.

I don't think that it is a lack of knowledge or ignorance that keeps us from developing our nation economically. There have been and will continue to be many seasoned and world renown Nigerians with brilliant plans on to grow our economy. Even without that there is a plethora of knowledge on successful economic blueprints to learn and follow out there in the world. Past administrations and tenures have always sought the best brains in these matters and yet we remain where we are. Buhari's government from all indications to me will also seek the best brains and advice it can get to help build our economic policies... but like many others before it, it may well fall below expectations because of one underlying problem...

That problem lies is in the sincerity of leadership! Until the time arrives when the majority of our leaders are committed to the idea of truly serving the people, of truly adhering to the practises of real democracy and stewardship we will continue to hear of beautiful sounding plans and proposals that will ultimately fail.

People will say that this time around things will be different because we have a new party and a new man in charge but I remain skeptical. Even if Buhari is 100% honest he is surrounded by many other people who have benefited from the rot of the previous regimes and tenures. They have little or no incentive to commit themselves to honest stewardship and so will find a way to undermine whatever beautiful economic proposal that is presented so that their selfish interests are catered for. Buhari will not be the one to man every facet of government, these people will.

Yeah so I don't believe that our problem has always been one of ignorance.

Gas that can generate 24hrs power supply for 2 times the size of Nigeria is being wasted/ flared day & night in the Niger-delta; causing pollution to the environment & diseases.

all thats is required is just to lay gas pipeline that will pass through river Niger all the way to the North; this will b supplying all the IPPs along its path and use the Escravos to Lagos to West-african countries gas pipeline too.

A strong willed leader is needed;

because the petrol & diesel importers like Otedola & co; and the dangotes (whom will want to monopolize the downstream with his 2016 refinery) plus others vested interest will want to stop these process.

Are you just waking up to Nigeria? The gas lines you talk about are already in existence but they continue to suffer repeated acts of vandalism. Suggest new methods of protecting these gas lines that haven't been used before, maybe yours will be the one that works.

Do a little reading on the web about solar power, that should suffice to give you a true picture of the challenges this form of technology faces.

Have you ever wondered why places that currently use solar power only use it for appliances that have a small load? Why do manufacturing firms not just use solar panels to power their operations?

It is a promising solution, true, but right now it isn't there yet.

Solar power involves solar panels and batteries and inverters for periods when sunlight is unavailable. The efficiency of the batteries and the solar panels themselves are just some of its bottlenecks. Though there has been considerable progress in this technology the amount of electricity generated per panel is still low compared to what you will get from gas plants.

You are talking about attracting outsourced jobs as a way of generating employment in
Nigeria but I don't think you appreciate realities of the international market especially in this sector. This is not a question of what Nigerians are capable of it is a question of how sustainable such a drive would be.

Are you aware that in the US, the largest origin of outsourced jobs, there are currently moves in place to reduce if not stop outsourcing?

The West is not doing well economically. I am more interested in emerging markets. Nigeria is one of them. Imagine us taking outsourced jobs from West African countries, South Africa, East Africa, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia etc because we are good at it and can do it cheaper.

If you doubt our ability as a people to achieve this, just walk into a major cyber cafe in any city and see how young people are using similar skills for crime. If they can use basic technology for crime, imagine what we can use it for legally.

I can't imagine what you talk about, a large number of jobs that are outsourced from the west usually end up in India, Vietnam and the Phillipines, (very few end up in Africa). Nigeria still has a ways to go in luring companies and such jobs away from those countries. They have over time built conditions and a workforce that is adept in handling outsourced jobs. Even if we immediately get the right conditions for attracting those jobs we would be competing not only with those countries who already have the advantage in this area but also with the growing sentiment of resistance to outsourcing. I highly doubt this is a sustainable policy for job creation.

Btw don't let the fraudsters in our cyber cafes fool you into believing we are a particularly high tech inclined society, we aren't.
