onila:I'm with you. Till further notice this info will be treated as untrue, I can't find the restrictions on the UAE website (anyone who has the link should kindly share). What about Nigerian travellers who go to the UAE on business, will they be also restricted? Since when did any country say that it has had enough of tourist money, let alone a place like the UAE that markets itself as a tourist haven. Nigerians do not even match by half the number of Asians who travel to the UAE. I think this is a case of Awon bloggers striking again. |
Sagamite:When it comes to intelligence and competence I think both candidates are evenly matched, we are not dealing with any Einsteins that's for sure. One is weak where the other is obstinate. As for intentions those can be very misleading. . . I rememeber the saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions". Anyway I hope that on the 14th Nigeria does not return to a past that it desperately needs to cut away from. |
Sagamite:True, much of Jonathan's rule has been characterised by waste and corruption. There has been some postives but the negatives stand out more glaringly. Anybody who argues otherwise is not being honest. The question before us now is whether Buhari is a better alternative to Jonathan and I maintain that he isn't. Your statement that Buhari during his time targetted only wrong doers suffers from the same "glossing over" that I accuse The Economist of in their article. Buhari's regime was anything but fair anybody it did not like was a target. People were punished and killed without a fair trial. The only good legacy from his regime are pictures of Nigerians (under the supervision of soldiers) lining up at bus stations. He pursued what many will agree were very questionable economic policies. It is with that mindset that he appears to want to rule the country today and aside from the anti corruption chants his campaign has been making he has not shown how his economic proposals are any better than what is already in place.( Again curiously The Economist did not bother to analyse any of this) Jonathan has many faults and shortcomings, we need change but there is nothing in Buhari that I have seen that assures me that he is the change we need. |
Interesting. It is good that the NAF is being called to exercise due diligence in this contract. What is curious is why we are only hearing of this particular deal, have the other multi million dollar contracts issued by the military been all fair and properly executed? Did the whistleblowers just grow a conscience last night? |
Sagamite:Attempting to hold brief for Jonathan as a person or the type of character he is is of little use, obviously many Nigerians and much of the international community see him as a weakling. I myself have and still continue to be very critical of some of his actions. It is when Jonathan's rule is juxtaposed with that of Buhari's (and the claims and promises that Buhari has made) that we see that Jonathan is way better. The Economist in that article completely glossed over the inhumanities that the Nigerian population suffered under Buhari, the newspaper also, curiously, didn't appreciate the dangers and damage that Buhari's policies wrought on the country's economy. The basis for their endorsement of Buhari is soley on the anti corruption toga that Buhari's supporters have colored his regime with. He was a merciless dictator who was responsible for part of the fundamental problems that plague Nigeria till this day. Buhari continues to be unrepentant about his regime - he insists that he was right, he continues to make divisive and inflammatory comments which indicate that he is anything but a democrat. In addition to this Buhari has failed to demonstrate that he possesses the wherewithal needed to lead a modern democratic nation to greatness. Nigeria does not need another tyrant. **** A funny thing about the Economist article is that it admits that the Nigerian economy is growing but it says the growth is not as a result of the government's policies. Is the Economist suggesting that growth and development can be automatic and independent? Is our economy on auto-pilot? |
Nicklaus:While I don't agree with The Economist's endorsement of Buhari it has to be stated that the newspaper has taken sides in several other elections in different countries. There is nothing wrong in that. They like every entity out there is free to support or oppose whoever they see fit, being an economist doesn't stop them from this nor are they mandated to stay neutral in all matters. |
The Economist is one of my favourite newspapers and is widely respected abroad however I have to disagree with them on this occasion. The article assumes that all Nigerians have forgiven Buhari's past. The article also hasn't been intimated on the plans that Buhari has proposed for Nigeria. No candidate with the kind of human rights record that Buhari has will stand election in any western country let alone receive endorsement from the press. It's only in Africa(once referred to as dark continent, the jungle) where past dictators can receive endorsement from western media houses. Jonathan has been a dissappointment in many areas but to return to Buhari, who has a terrible history of oppression and till today who is himself unapologetic about his past, is an insult to our democracy. |
Does this affect the price of petrol which is at N87? |
asuoka:Yes there have been exceptions but members of the UK royal family who have had military service in conflict zones are several steps removed from the throne. The UK princes have military training but they were not allowed into direct combat because they would be high value targets. Prince Harry who was eager for deployment in Iraq was denied the opportunity and instead was sent on a military tour to Afghanistan. (Prince Harry himself is not directly next in line to the throne) William who is next in line was completely not allowed to serve in the middle east. |
Even though I have very little confidence in online polls I'll still say Sai Otti! |
asuoka:Your link is just like the dozens out there circulating unconfirmed reports. Anything that sounds incredible should first be confirmed, at least that's what I do, and most of the sites maintain that this story is still unconfirmed. However I can tell you that the pictures spreading on tweeter of king Abdullah in a chopper are old and not a recent thing. In fact updated report on this site(http://twitchy.com/2015/02/04/hard-core-jordans-king-abdullah-in-combat-gear-and-ready-to-fight-isis-photos/) say its all a rumour. Again there is no modern nation that will personally allow its current ruler lead a military attack, the risks are too much. |
Acidosis:No country with half a brain will let its current leader anywhere near an active conflict zone whether military trained or not let alone lead an attack. We are no longer in biblical times when kings personally lead their armies to war. |
That's the problem with the Internet, very few people take the time to confirm the things they read about. The reports of King Abdullah flying a chopper are old and gotten from the video in this link http:///JOr9IOk5ND. While the Jordanian airforce is conducting several attacks on ISIS strongholds they not doing so with the king personally. That story is at best unconfirmed or just a rumour. Of course Nigerians and many other people have run with this rumour without confirming its authenticity. |
sulley:This indirectly means that PWC is a compromised auditor. You better have strong evidence to back up such an audacious claim. |
kaydguru:You came back from where? |
eaglechild:The guy is unbelievable, thankfully not many people take him and his drivel seriously. Only deluded minds like his, which are in the minority, revel in the spread of such inanities. My personal suspicion is that what we see here are symptoms of a deep seated mental disorder, one which insists on seeing itself as the perpetual victim of western influences. But its just a suspicion, better informed minds can offer a more accurate prognosis of his condition. Either way it is best to let him be, exhaustion is the only thing that will stop him at this point. |
An affidavit can solve all certificate issues. This is not a problem. |

onatisi:Jordan has executed the prisoner that ISIS wanted in exchange for the pilot. The Jordanians are committed in their stance against them. |
Funny thread, reminds me of the song Detroit vs Everybody. Ikengawo Vs Everybody. ![]() |
cococandy:Thats impressive, I assumed you were using a DSLR camera the detailing and color capture makes for enticing food pictures. Will be on the lookout for more of your pictures. |
^ It's a little too late for APC to remedy this situation and the person who will be most affected is Buhari himself. Whoever counselled him in this and the debate matter did him a disservice. Hopefully in the future APC gets it right and fields somebody who doesn't have a sordid past to challenge PDP at the presidential level. |
From the look of things Buhari will not be allowed to rest after |
cococandy:Nice picture, what camera did you use to take the shot? It's so rich. |
Sai Alex Otti! |
biafranqueen:You guys are organising Igboto Mma celebration for Buhari eh? Chai. ![]() |
pelij:And you think there were no alternative routes to get on twitter in Turkey when it was blocked? Have you heard about virtual private networks? Attempting to censure the web only leads to the proliferation of back door routes. Streisand's Effect comes into play in these kinds of things. |
Obiagelli:Are you suggesting that such lies be given maximum coverage? Don't let your disdain for the incumbent leadership lead you to the path of ridculousness. $700 million cash indeed. |
onatisi:It's amazing how anybody can possibly believe this kind of lie but shocking as it maybe human beings have proven time and again that once their brains have been shut down they can swallow any kind of rubbish. The people who directly or indirectly peddle this tall tale need to be ashamed of themselves, they have branded themselves as absolute dolts - they need to be flogged. |
This are the kinds of fantastical postulations that some people engage in under the delusion that they are offering expert analysis on world events... meanwhile it's all straight up nonsense. Reasonable people will hold aloof while things like these are said; it serves no purpose in trying to correct originators of such nonesense, they have sunk too deep in the swamp of their conspiracies to be rescued. |
chrisbaba1:In North Korea the citizens are denied access to the Internet that's different from allowing Internet access and banning certain sites. The later never works as planned. |
