You couldn’t have said it any better ma’am. Just last week, I posted a video of my LO and her classmates singing on my WhatsApp status. One of my contacts buzzed me and pointed out that the black kids were put in the second line and it was racism. I frankly told her I didn’t notice and it means nothing to me. I even went ahead to show her other classes in the same school where the dark skinned kids were in front but she still maintained her stance.

I simply just left her to it. When one doesn’t pay heed to trivial things, then life gets a lot more uncomplicated.
You can imagine. Instead of her to pay attention to the singing, she’s focusing on what?

And if they were racist, so what? Igbos cant even live peacefully in northern Nigeria, is anyone discussing that, abi Igbos are less human?

It’s absolutely normal for people to resist a different culture in their environment.

The first time I saw a Mai Suya in the east, men, I stared. Like I spoke hausa to him to be sure. It was shocking.

But you come another person land, come dey force them make them like you, picking on all they do.. sorry they aren’t rolling the carpets out— even some of the yorubas supported the Oba when he told the Igbos to leave— but I even understood because it’s human behaviour to hate what they don’t understand.

It’s not tolerance of racism; it’s just you not caring!

Funny I didn't read this before sharing my primark story.
I just enjoy reading from you...
If you and aphrodite mentor migrants... Racism would probably have been a very boring subject of discussion by now...

UK is even decent... I wonder what one would say about the US.
Awww thanks Poch. kiss

You start to live peacefully when you stop believing the devil exists just to kill you. It’s the same with racism. We are already doing better than them- haters will always hate; so allow them to hate and bask in it!

E.g., look at what LagosIMH said about being on holiday and being the only black- you’ll now leave the holiday you were meant to enjoy, to focus on who is staring?

People get time sha!

I hope so too! Being treated with dignity is not "forcing them to like us". I have no desire to force anyone to like me/us.  I'm good with being civil to one another. Definitely! Especially ones that only a Greek goddess can resolve .

To say the OP shouldn't consider his experience as racist is gaslighting. That you choose not too see an act of racism for what it is does not change it. I let things go if my peace isn't threatened but does that stop me from noticing change in body language when I enter a room or the sneaky stares.
We live legally in the UK, pay tax and NI - we may not be citizens but we do have rights. Firstly, right to human dignity. Please next time you are at Tesco confront the security guy with your observation and if it persists ask to speak with their Manager. Your mental health is too important for that BS!

It's difficult to even blame these folks because of behaviours exhibited by some of us. Why would anyone take up the "walk way" and say you don't "send" them?? And you ask why they stare at blacks? Being considerate even in little things such opening doors, leaving room for others in the walk way depicts good character. Our children should see us do such.
Fair point about the walk-way, as I wouldn’t tolerate that but I think the OP was exaggerating (I hope).

However I don’t agree with your opinion that because we live legally and pay taxes that we have the right to force them to like us. Whether they are staring at you with admiration or disdain, you should just ignore. If however they dare to come close to you to say pim.. dial me, I will come fight for you!

Sometimes this thing is in ones mind.... using tesco as an example. Yes there profiling sure and some blacks feel more targetted in police stop and search.

But the same tesco security is also following whites and other people in the store......so why are you offended. Isnt that what he paid to do. It is his job...... If he follows you and your hands are clean no problem he follows the next target. In a town where no black then his observation moves to the next person that fits a profile within let say the white community.....frankly he just doing his job.
Haha! My husband sparked one day that there’s one security that’s always stopping him at Sainsbury’s grin grin

He jokingly said that he would have reported him for racism, but didn’t know how to explain that a black man was racist to him. grin

If you are looking for racism then you will see it for sure.... if you are not then yes it normalized and doesnt mean anything . My kids school in London they are only 2 other blacks in their year for me it doesn't mean anything. They go through the same issues the next child has. Work wise it's always been mainly white. Las las UK is still predominantly white

2019 we did a lot of UK holiday package touring up and down to know UK well. Majority of the holiday I never saw a black person.....It was predominantly white. If you ask me if anyone starred at me or was racist. I cant say yes because I frankly dont notice such. I do my thing you do you thing and everyone is ok. However if you are conscious and start looking for racism you will see it . Rightly or wrongly ... how can you tell that the person is looking at you as if you are not wanted without words spoken ... it what you have chosen to internalise
My dear, I actually enjoy the attention.
“Please stare at me baby, stare more! wink Y’all will never have beautiful dark skin like mine!”

I just prefer to see the cup half full!

Sequel to the above post few days ago, i am here to inform the house that Turkish airline refused passengers with NHS result. According to them your test result should say "PCR" as contained on the official website of NCDC and should be authorized by the clinic.

I sha followed my instinct to to do a private test pre departure because it would be foolhardy to miss my flight because of 120 quid.

Caveat..I don't know about other airlines, but Turkish airline are very particular about the requirement.

I want to appreciate everyone of you that proffered advice to my question.
Thanks for updating us. it’s probably a new measure they are taking as I was allowed with my NHS result in Oct.

How you mean "extension to PhD"? I thought PhD visas get atleast 3 years.

If you really want to stay, hope you are aware you 'as a dependant' can switch in-country to Tier 4 while partner is dependant
She is already on tier 4 but I think I understand what you’re advising her; that she can now depend on her partner, who was once dependent on her. Nice plan but I don’t know how easy that would be or how feasible, so I’ll mute.

As for the “extension”, these are given when you do master’s and are an excellent student, or when you apply for a PhD but they force you to do a master’s first or if you’re doing a master’s and your dissertation is helping the professor with their research— so you get extended to phd, rather than starting afresh with admission, references and statement of purpose letters.

The above is why her admission is dependent on the professor’s health.

Yes in terms of state funded school... this is very allowed. However for the 3 year old, you can only attend 15 hours free education and not the 30 hours free. The 30 hours is classiged as public fund so make sure only claim the 15 hours and then once the child is in reception class age then you are good to go .

Egusi grounded or not is very ok.... as for fried meat I am not sure , although a friend brought me loads of suya this week and frozen suya was absolutely fine
You see, I thought no school for kids until they are 4 years old. Noted.

That school no serious ....So if the supervisor died, all his work too would die àbí .......... grin

You need to teach them their job or they profer a workable solution.........
Hahaha

But jokes apart I understand them. PhD is very lecturer dependent, unless there are other available lecturers in that field; so it makes sense to wait for him.

Hello house , please can children (ages 5 & 3) of a parent with a student visa attend state funded schools in the UK or they will be required to pay fees , I tried checking for information online but it was not so clear to me.

Also has anyone travelled to the uk recently and carried fried meat , Eguisi(not grinded) is it allowed?

Thank youuuuuu
School is free I think. But baby sitting isn’t, meaning it may only be the 5 year old with the free education (I’m guessing o).

I don’t think meat products are allowed. But I carry. Which means if they catch you, you will forfeit it for them for Christmas.

Any reason why the Egusi is not grinded? You love stress or there’s a special delicacy made ungrinded egusi?

School said they can’t proceed with the admission as the supervisor is down with the virus at the moment. So they are putting everything on hold until he recovers. It’s PhD. So, they are not even saying anything about issuing CAS. But I will try this again today.
Now I understand.. but Are they thinking that your super would die? That’s now when the schools behaviour would make sense, as they can’t give you admission if- God forbid- he doesn’t make it.

Sorry o, SU can’t help with this one because you haven’t even gotten the admission, so the CAS letter is out of the question. Hopefully he/she would get better.

As far as you apply/submit the necessary docs one day before you’re meant to leave, you won’t have to go back. You still have time. Fingers crossed.

I appreciate your response. I’ve checked the website but the only thing I’m seeing about extension is that CAS is a requirement. But the uni just made it known yesterday that they cannot process the admission as planned for next month due to a key person been down with the virus or something like that. This is something that had been progressing nicely until this week. And the only thing left was just a final approval.
Wait what? So only one person can type? Your school sef is not trying! grin

Meet your SU and ginger them to fight for you. This was my job in uni (report staff and fight for students grin)

Good evening everyone. I honestly don’t even know where to start. But the pandemic affected some plans and now schools says they can’t sort admission process till February or March due to COVID. This is supposed to be an extension to PhD. Visa expires in January. I know nobody has a post-pandemic experience. But is there any way to work around this without having to go back to Nigeria and end up starting start a fresh visa application? I will appreciate every comment and support. I’m just confused. Thank you.

P.S- I have started packing already as I don’t plan to overstay.
Wow this is hard o. But you’re doing the right thing.

But why is your school sorting out your visa? It’s meant to be done by UKVI. All your uni has to do is give you CAS right, Then you apply for visa? Right?

If I’m right, get the cas and apply for your visa then you won’t need to go home. It’s just a letter, Covid shouldn’t stop them from typing a letter. Also speak to your international office or SU; they may have similar cases.

. I don’t know sha. Sorry o.
