matt234: Hi Guys, Your opinions will go a long way; and if there's someone who has been in this situation and scaled through, please share their story.
2005 - I applied for a UK student visa but was refused due to insufficient funds and low WAEC grades. 2006 - Changed my name and DOB; got a new passport and applied for another student visa in 2007 and by this time, the UK had started taking biometrics as part of the application process. I was caught and presumably banned for 10 years. The passport used was not returned back to me as they believed that was not my true identity. All these I did as I was ignorant and just despirate to have a bright future, which I am already having without stepping out of Nigeria. All my siblings eventually left Nigeria in the struggle and live in US, Canada and France; I am the only one left here for now
Fast forward to 2018, I have since graduated from Uni and now working as an analyst for an Oil Company.
Now, I have a fiancee who is settled in the UK and who will eventually be a British citizen in 2019. We plan to get married next year and I am planning to apply for a spose visa. I will declare my previous applications, including the change of name and biometrics, which I believe would now have been deleted as it is over 10 years; however, I am sure there is a likelihood of a refusal under section 320 but I will appreciate if there's someone who has such experience and who can share what they did. I work full time and I earn a considerably huge amount of salary. I also have a business and few properties and can show a genuine bank account with good cash flow and a balance of over N40m; my fiancee also earns over £30k yearly, so finance is not an issue. I am confident that I would normally meet the requirements if not for the refusals and ban which happened over 12 years ago.
Going by your experience guys, what do you suggest? Lexus is very very correct. A few people here got bans but still scaled through and are with their partners right now. So you have nothing to worry about, just ensure you don't lie about anything this time around and include your refusals, heck you can even include the touching story of wanting to find greener pastures if you want to emotionally blackmail the case officer However, I am curious, are you sure you want to leave that wonderful job of yours to join wifey? cos you make it sound like you are stresslessly earning more than a mill per month, trust me, you will work for that mill here! So think well cos its not easy to have a husband that will be too upset/proud to work in care or retail while waiting for his oil job.. Wish you the best in your application. And please, read through the thread from 50 pages before this (in your spare time) and all your subsequent questions will be answered. |

sassysure: Hello all. I was here to inquire over something this year.
As it turned out,the visa was refused. Based on a mistake from the applicant (supporting documents from the applicants were not received and the applicant didnt know till after 3 months. They have since traced and recovered them. Sent to the wrong address. That is the tb test and English language). The sponsor met all the requirements and was cleared. They have appealed and received email that it will take 15 weeks after sending the documents to them and they have received them. Now,I am thinking they should withdraw the appeal and reapply again through priority as the appeal process takes so much time. Is that done? Can they actually withdraw the appeal? If yes, how do they do that. Will it take time again for their documents to be giving back to them. Will priority work for them faster as they have been denied before. Thanks as u help. 1) How were the documents sent? Normally, they are meant to be sent to the sponsor, then the sponsor would attach their own doc and submit the entire documents to sheffield. 2) Yes it is done. You can withdraw your appeal and re-apply, i think a few people did that. 3) Priority or super priority places the document at the top of the pile. If you are asking whether they can apply for priority even with a refusal, a few people have, so they can. If, however, you are asking whether or not the process will be faster, that will depend on the complexity of the case. |

BankManager: Hi...Pls what is the difference between 1."Msc Business Informatics" and "Msc Information System Management "..?? 2.How lucrative is a master degree in Information system..?? Thanks in anticipation... I think they are similar because both of them have management skills involved, if it had been BI and IS, then the difference would have been more obvious. BI is simply being able to use different software tools to process data or represent information that is relevant to a company. Whereas, ISM just focuses on utilising and maximising the benefits of an information system (like an intranet, website, till software, stock-keeping software) that is being used by a company. (IS alone will teach you how to develop the information system, or at least manage the people that will develop the system, so technically, ISM is "IS" with management). Therefore, you might need more computing knowledge for ISM because you can't tell a system analyst "the thing is not working", instead of saying "the portal is down".. but a BI guy will be forgiven if he doesn't know the terminologies to use. BI basically just teaches you the grave importance of info and how to use tools to capture and represent information for a decision to be made, while ISM teaches how to solve problems with a new device or software, and how you can manage people too (HR). If you have a finance or business background, BI can be your step forward, if you have a computing background, I will suggest ISM. |

lincoffm: PUBLIC NOTICE
Good day Ladies/ Gentlemen.
I was here few days ago to make some complain about individual contacting me for standardized test registration. Up till now some still got the registration done for and still go away without a word after confirming the tests. Please I don't want to make enemy out of this cos remember I register that test and I have a copy handy. I know people in Nigeria who I can contact to locate you. Atleast we can get you on the day of the exam. You are not smart . It's simple I'm not registering test for free I told y'all already and if you don't need the or you don't have cash handy respect yourself and stay clear . Because after your registration you pay the discount I help others . Don't be greedy !!! I'm not registering on credit or hire purchase, if you have cash only because so many people need this test.
Don't block their chances!
NOTE: If you didn't turn yourself in in few hours I will be forced to attach your ID With the conversation both here and other forums
Regards, I won't lie, I am very disgusted by their attitude. Is this the way to thank people for helping you? Nigerians are so wicked! I remember seeing your post about giving 50% off, I thought that you were being noble for such a kind gesture. It is so sad that this is the way they want to thank you. |

CapitalCee: Read carefully what you want to do after your studies before applying, don't waste your money then come here to cry that UK government is wicked Excellent statement! People should read wide and check for other student's experiences in the UK to reach a conclusion on what they want to study and if the UK is worth the money. To the best of my knowledge, students that graduated between 2013 and 2017 (both BSc and Msc) found it extremely difficult to get jobs after school even with degrees in Engineering, IT, nursing and med. So, people, if you think you want to work after school in the UK, think long and hard before burning the cash. Good news is that Brexit seems to be working in our (foreigners/Nigerians) favour, so hopefully more Nigerians will be employed after studies soon! |

LaaJiblik: Finally, the chicken has come home to roost. Madam Over Sabi has finally agreed that it’s a truism that some UK schools do require IELTS from Nigerian students. That is the point I have been trying to make. How can someone say “it is negligible if 10% of universities require IELTS? Agreed, 10% is small, but definitely NOT negligible especially when you want to make a sweeping general statement.
Let me make it clear (to Madam Aphrodite) and to other Nairalanders. I am currently attending a university in the UK. I am not talking about the kind of university that Madam Aphrodite attended. I am attending a University that is among the TOP 3 in the UK (Using any reputable global ranking). I did not have a C in WASSCE or NECO-SSCE, I had a B3 in NECO-SSCE and an A1 in English Language. YET, I had to write IELTS to get admission into my current Postgraduate course. Granted, my university does admit Nigerain students with WASSCE credits in English, my particular course required the IELTS, and I wrote it, and I am where I am today.
Aunty Aphrodite claimed to have got admission into 5 different unis, with none requiring IELTS, and she claims about 20 of her friends too got admitted without IELTS, so as far as she knows (and she doesn’t know very far), IELTS is not required by UK universities. No one can be farther away from the truth.
And when confronted with raw facts by someone with hard facts, she now resorted to denigrating the Welsh University. Meanwhile, Wales is in the UK. Meanwhile she had earlier insisted that IELTS is not required.
Very shameful is her statement that she “knows what’s up” while I am “from no where” were as, I can bet, the UK university she attended is nowhere near the one I am currently attending.
My dear Nairalanders, always take time to read the webpages of your prospective schools, and if you require clarification, your BEST bet is to contact the school FIRST. If you decide to come to Nairaland first, chances are people like Aphrodite may be the first to commend on your post, and give you wrong information such as “UK schools don’t require IELTS”. I was busy at work, now I have your time! So you’re still in school and you have the audacity to argue with me, Your ancestor? Baba no annoy me! I’m trying hard to be civil but you’re pushing me! What is a NECO? Please is that one result? I mentioned WAEC and you’re bringing NECO out, you’re not ashamed that you even had to use your NECO for anything, and you’re still arguing on top. You’re in a top 3 school, just imagine, and small sense you don’t have! His is why I’ve lost respect for UK schools. Didn’t you read where I wrote that only the top 5 schools would insist on an English test? Better improve your reading skills, you’ll need it for your dissy! Furthermore, if I decide to rubbish you now, I’ll make calls and write out all the schools that don’t require the English test. Maybe that will humble you. Off the top of my head I can mention 10-20 schools that don’t need it and all you can mention are two schools, but you’re here making noise. Baba for the last time, don’t mention me again. I don’t speak baby language and it’s difficult to break things down to that level! Naira land is for people to air their opinions, not for one person to act like police on top another person head- drop your Naija mentality and learn to either co-exist or mind your damn business! P.S: getting to a top three school either means you might be on a scholarship (I must commend you for this maybe you’re not daft afterall!), which must require an English test or some super convincing story. Scholarships must be accompanied with what the school demands. But If you are paying, you wrote that test at your own peril, Cos you could have left the school and applied else where, so please don’t mislead people! I’m sure your fingers where itching to write how you’re in a top 3 school, and you attack me for being arrogant! *rme! please I’m a very friendly person, I don’t want people to see me arguing and think I like fight, just let this end here. |

LaaJiblik: It’s bad enough to be arrogant. 1. Someone asked the simplest of all questions: “Do I require IELTS to study in a UK university?”
Next thing, you replied to categorically state that a Credit pass in WASSCE is enough to gain admission in UK universities.
2. I replied to say that is not entirely correct, as different schools have different requirements. Whereas some schools accept WASSCE, some do not ( which was and is still a Fact).
3. You said you applied to 5 schools and none of the 5 asked for IELTS. By your warped logic, a random sample size of 5 is enough for you to make a General Categorical Statement. What you failed to acknowledge is that your sample size (n) was too small to conclude.
4. Rather than accept your error, you went ahead to be arrogantly speaking long grammar.
4. Someone even posted that he(or she) was given conditional admission, but the school insisted he/she must write the IELTS. I even took the pain to point to you the British Council advisory, and a few schools which require the IELTS.
5. Rather than accept the glaring fact, your wounded pride would not allow you to accept that you goofed, big time.
Let me advice you: Next time, don’t make categorical statements unless you can prove that 100% of UK schools don’t require IELTS. Even if 99.99% schools don’t require it, you still cannot generalize.
My advice to fellow Nairalanders: Different schools have different requirements. Even within a single school, there may be different english language requirements for different courses. Always take time to read, and send emails to the schools to clear any doubts. Never depend wholly on the likes of the ITK @Aphrodite who may mislead you. Not only can their ilks mislead you, they will be too arrogant to accept that they goofed. All this turanci, just to show off your poor comprehension skills! You know, there was a silly argument going on about being able to work in the UK after a master's degree. Apparently, its probably <10% of the people that study a master's degree in the UK that get jobs in the UK, so I and a few others generalised and suggested that nobody should bother studying in the UK because they wouldn't get a job afterwards, but some humans preferred to believe that the law says that its possible to get a job, and mislead other unsuspecting Nigerians. That's exactly what is going on here. I believe its negligible if just 10% of UK unis ask for an English test, especially if your SOP is powerful enough to show your command in English, this is why I insist that English tests are not a necessity. You might not have mastered the art of drawing conclusions from experiences and assumptions, only smart people know how to do that, so I will let your uncouth behaviour slide! Ask the uncle that refused the Welsh school if he submitted an English test result to the other unis that he applied to. Or go round and find out how many people actually wrote English tests to UK unis (minus the people that were scholarship candidates), then come back and argue with me! All I'm merely doing is saving people their hard-earned money on English tests that are not necessary, because prospective Nigerian students are allowed to negotiate it even when the school insists on it. I don't see how that's misleading. If Nigerian students don't know that that requirement is contestable or easily solved with a WAEC, wont they be stressing over an English test? NB: Just mentioned your insistence of the English test to your colleague, and he hissed and said, "Is it not at fairs that UK Universities that will just see a photocopy of your statement of result and offer you conditional admission pending the payment of your tuition?!.. provided you are paying a tuition and not asking for a scholarship, UK Unis don't give wahala!" Be schooled! Oh and next time you see someone with a contrary opinion, mind your damn business and let the readers decide. |

I pray God gives us all wisdom , understanding and patience... Oh yeah, you refused the offer.. Apologies! A lower university insisting on an English test to a Nigerian with a C or more in WAEC was probably just to scare you away or reflect their naivety. Also, from their insistence of an English test, its pretty obvious that they have a very small community of Nigerian students and have not yet realised the Gold mine of admitting Nigerian students- meaning that they are probably new or quite backwards. Then again, its a Welsh Uni so my latter assumptions aren't far from the truth! |

Whoever needs to apply should first check the course's entry requirements or send email to the Uni for any clarification. Wait, you got rejected by a Welsh Uni? LaaJiblik: Shame! Shame! Shame! "Come and Beat me" shows the kind of person you are.
Let me advice you. I do not go to beat people, No. I don't. I educate and enlighten them.
Let me give you examples of what I sourced (FOR YOU) from a few websites.
https://www.uel.ac.uk/international/nigeria-entry The English language entry requirement for the majority of postgraduate (Master's) programmes is IELTS 6.0 or 6.5, or equivalent, depending on your chosen course of study. Specific requirements for your chosen course, including individual component scores, will be outlined as one of the academic conditions if you are made an offer.
https://www.britishcouncil.org.ng/exam/ielts/faqs
You should take an IELTS academic module test if the University you want to attend has stated that you need to provide a proof of English Language proficiency. You will also need to confirm if the University accepts IELTS as a proof of English Language proficiency.
https://www.qub.ac.uk/International/International-students/Your-Country/Nigeria/ (The University considers the West African Examinations Council Senior School Certificate/NECO (English Language)at Grade C6 or higher as an acceptable English Language qualification (except for entry to Medicine and Dentistry).
So, I would rather "Come and Beat" you intellectually. Story! So I mentioned that I know 5 schools that didn't ask for an English test and your come back is just 2 schools?.. if i insult your brain now, they will remove this comment. Uncle, please go and drink cold water and rest. UK schools hardly ask for English tests from Nigerians. My 5 schools didn't, the over 20 schools that have been applied to by my friends didn't. If its paining you that I am right, hug transformer. Please don't mention me again, there are caliber of people I like to argue with, and you are not up to par. |

Add that to your tuition and that's what you have to show proof of funds for. owoade25: Thanks Phenmeson. I totally agree with you. However, among English speaking countries, tuition seems to be highest in Australia. Also it is a very far and lonely island (my opinion). I don't think you should look towards Aus unless you have a strong 2.1 and 1st (for scholarships), like you said, it is expensive. Even though there are scholarship opportunities after your first semester, having the down payment to get into the school, in the first place, might just be difficult to get. If you are looking towards a PhD, NZ will be gold, don't try it for a master's, its as expensive as Aus. |

Mamatukwas: Hello All!
New migrant alert here. This thread has been great, thanks a lot to all who have contributed.
Pls my perspective is slightly different. I'm a Tier5 dependent (Wife) and we all moved with our 3 children. It has honestly been unbelievably expensive and we still have not settled in a house we like.. have been doing short stay which is very expensive.
Anyhoo, we are North and even though I honestly won't be able to work for at least a year or two coz I have small children, I want to invest the time wisely doing courses etc that will allow me be immediately relevant when I'm ready. So for those with knowledge pls help your sister... which areas are perpetually hot in the U.K. especially the Scotland area. Pls note that - I have over 10 years experience in Entrepreneurial endeavors/Business management. - No passion for IT or Medical fields plus Hubby na d medic. - For now considering Social work or Project Mgt or Event Mgt (Events coz I have a passion there) but I don't know if it pays this side.
I honestly have never not contributed to the household purse and I dey pity Oga as I'm seeing how the money is vanishing.. won't even mind ideas on what I can do online at home from now to earn in the U.K. Pls oh my peeps give me ideas based on your wealth of knowledge. Many thanks.
Cc: @Aphrodite007 @fatima04 and all the other greats on the thread. Pls don't waka pass. Thank you. At the bolded, these are the kind of women I like, kudos! I truly understand what you are going through, it may even take him a while to settle down, seeing as there are kids involved, but just relax and tell yourself that you are in a land of countless opportunities that will sort itself out! During these two years, you can be selling stuff on ebay or amazon. You can even cook Nigerian meals and advertise for the Nigerians there to patronise you. You can go as far as sell already-made ingredients/items to Nigerian students (e.g agege bread); people like me that love naija food will definitely patronise you if i were in Scotland. You are in the UK and the wifi is fully functional, watch lots of videos and learn to make these things. At the end of the day, you might decide to not even return to the professional world and just rely on your skills! However, I also support your idea of doing online courses, it will help expand your knowledge base as per your field. I am a BA (IT side not finance), and I know that its a lucrative profession, but gap years kind of have a silly effect on peoples CVs. But please, chase on, I always encourage people to pursue knowledge. You also mentioned PM, which is a good field, but why don't flex your entrepreneurial fingers and make money from your cooking skills, to be able to afford the fees for the Prince2 exams. Anyway, your first stop is to check Facebook for Nigerians in the neighbourhood. Reach out to them, attend their meetings, if any, or holla at them on their Facebook group, if any. Even at Church too, mix with Nigerians, and showcase your skills to them. That's where you will get customers from. |

tayeby78: No need to panic. You've got your visa and that's all that matters for now. It took them a while to return my husband's docs. I think about 8 weeks or so if I'm not mistaken. Even @Lamakinde as well. They just have a backlog. Your docs will be returned. Thanks love |
