speedyboi: This post has ignorance all over it. Most of the shii you mentioned above are no longer the problem
Mention one of Nigerian movies production that has met the criteria you called shit. Are they still not all on 700MB CDs, which usually resulted into many parts as if money is the focus and not quality? Thanks to satellite television stations that are now helping to air/view many of the movies, if not pirated copies would not have allowed the producers to make money out of their labours.

Ricky_Ross: Hmm, very interesting...
I wish our movie industry will grow as fast as our music industry both in quality and returns on investment.
Is the music industry growing in quality or rather number of noise makers enlisted growing as they claim to have swagger in order to eat? So it may actually be quantity and not quality that is increasing.
TV/MoviesRe: Half Of A Yellow Sun Confirmed As Nollywood’s Most Expensive Movie by arbitrage:
Nigerian movies still produced on 20th century 700MB (CD) discs as parts 1, 2 or 3 are all far from increased quality when the world movie industry has gone past DVD, HD-DVD to Blu-Ray discs and even 3D Blu-ray discs (some up to triple and quad layer BDXL discs with 100GB and 128GB discs qualities respectively). You dare not compare sleep with death.

They should improve on quality by buying state of the art camera to shoot their movies. Then the movie production should be in better image/picture quality and that will enhance their classing at their annual screening events. Afterall, there are awards for best image/picture qualities they can win too; so many categories of movies rating. That should be after quality content is put into the scripts they are acting because childish play scripts in high definition will still be categorized as scraps. Start with high quality movie scripts to high quality recording to at least high quality viewing format/disc production. Money will definitely be expended to have such. If you need help in producing in high quality format, I can help the owner, even up to 3D BDXL formats.
BusinessRe: Which Nigerian Bank Issue Mastercard That Accept Foreign Deposit? by arbitrage: 11:20pm On Apr 28, 2013
For what I know so far, there is no Mastercard anywhere (even outside Nigeria) that accepts deposit from foreign merchant aside when you make payment from the card and it's being reversed. But only Visa supports merchants paying/depositing into their cards and not Mastercard.

It depends on the size/weight of letter sometimes. I sent a big annual diary to Canada in Feb by EMS speedpost, and it took 10 days to get there. That was over N3k because faster couriers were charging like over N9k.

May be you should check what error message you are getting on Aliexpress because if your vbv is truly successful, there should be no problem using your card on Aliexpress, since you have been using it there before the vbv process. More so, the vbv code/password will only be required from you when you are buying from a site that subcribes to Verified by Visa and/or Mastercard Secure Code program. Any other site (that is not part of vbv) should go successfully without using vbv.

If I use my GTb account to fund my moneybookers act, hope they can't trace it to nigeria and won't block me.

Is there any other way 2 verify my paypal act. Tnx

IseOluwa777: Mmm....this is why a thread like this is useful. There are some questions I would like to ask...Did you buy from a retailer.... Did DHL give you the breakdown of this customs duty...l thought customs duty for such should be around 20%? How can one know when to expect that a shipment will attract customs duty prior to shipment?

I have read before on this site about people getting slammed with unexplainable customs duty by DHL and I have often wondered why it is so...there should be transparent rules guiding the process.

So when does one get slammed with duty and when does one NOT get slammed with duty?
I didn't buy from retailer but from Amazon.com and the shipping was free in the States to myUS.com but from them to Nigeria is where the story started. The paper that DHL sent for the Customs Duty claim stated a higher value for the item and with several other fees like the 20% custom duty, another big VAT, another CISS, another intervention fee, and something else totaling N116,103. They said each charge is actually calculated on the total cost of the item plus cost of freight plus one other thing, that makes the total cost high before they will now start calculating each charge on that bloated total cost.

2sexy.us:
What? But I thought you were using MyUs.com for the shipping? Hmmm... I guess circuitatlantic would have been better in this case. Why didn't they(myus.com) inform you before hand?
Yeah, that's right. DHL and Fedex are the couriers for myUS.com and they have even brought some items for me few days earlier but this TV saga is another. I used them when I was outside Nigeria and there was no story like this. I even had to contend with myUS first when they calculated price that was higher than what was on their website for the shipping. They said it was because they used dimensional (volumetric) weight (118 lbs) instead of the real weight of the TV package (65 lbs). That made about $550 shipping charge become $926+. And now DHL is claiming their so called Customs Duty after they have taken possession of the item.
BusinessRe: Mini Importers: Dhl/Fedex/ Ups/Ems/Nipost And Nigerian Customs Public Feedback by arbitrage: 7:31pm On Apr 25, 2013
My experience is not sweet currently. A N320k TV was shipped with $926 (close to N150k) and now DHL asked me to pay another N116,103 customs duty before they release to me or else they will take it back to govt warehouse.

Yeah, they don't except for some item like books and movies (I think). In fact, when you log on to your Amazon account to buy and you choose an item, it will indicate under the item if they do or do not ship to your registered address by default.

bukahands: I taught they don't ship to Nigeria. Please do u know the charge for international Atm withdrawal using union bank visa card
Yes, most sellers do not ship to Nigeria while some of them do. But I got mine shipped freely to the US while I used another shipper that uses DHL to bring here.

That is the difference between Union card and GTB card. GTB card always charge N1000 for every withdrawal from outside ATM but my Union card was not charged any dime per ATM withdrawal outside. BUT the exchange rate of dollar to Naira from GTB withdrawal is lower than that of Union. GTB was like around N160/161 while Union was doing it like N164/165.
BusinessRe: Pls Help How Do I Fund Paypal By Myself??? by arbitrage:
Yes, you can still add another card to the paypal account opened for you provided the opener gave you the administrative login details to the account. Your password to the account enables you to add other cards and addresses to existing account in your paypal account section.

As for other payoneer card from partner, it will not work unless you get in touch with the partner you got it from to re-activate your account with them. I also had one from oDesk.com before and it got deactivated when I did not use it. But when I then realized that Payoneer offers directly to users, I re-applied to Payoneer directly. So, the choice is yours to get in touch with the partner for re-activation and then work with them to earn into your card or get a new one from Payoneer and load it from your naira mastercard or visa card.
BusinessRe: Pls Help How Do I Fund Paypal By Myself??? by arbitrage:
Step 3: I logged on to my new paypal account and I clicked on the "verify" link on the page. It took me to another page where I was required to verify my account by adding a US bank account. So, I entered the US bank account details that came with my Payoneer card.

It means you need a Payonner Mastercard as prerequisite for the step 3, which you can obtain by visiting the link below.
Check it out at: http://share.payoneer-affiliates.com/a/clk/11dTf3 but remember that (I said earlier) having a Moneybookers/Skrill account can also help additionally to achieve what we want with this card as far as paypal is concerned.

Step 4: After entering my Payoneer's Mastercard US banking details, Paypal deposited small amounts (about $0.12 and $0.13) into my Payoneer's US account, which I have to know the amount and enter into my Paypal as a means of verification that the US bank account is mine. They will mention 2 days for this deposit to occur but surprisingly they did within 30 minutes to 1 hours as I found the alerts from Payoneer in my email of the two deposits. I quickly logged in to my Paypal and submitted. That changed my Paypal account status to verified. The page also says that I can now deposit and withdraw from the paypal using my bank account BUT recommended that I make such Paypal payment from my bank account instant (faster) by adding a credit or debit card. I added my Netspend.com visa card to the paypal. You may try using your Payoneer card but I did not try using it.

Now my paypal account has both US bank account and a card and the verified status is shown there. We will now need to go to the funding/deposit and withdrawal possiblity from naira by yourself.

Step 5: After you got your Payoneer Mastercard, you must activate it to start using it. Unlike in the past when you will need to receive payment into your payoneer card from the Payoneer partner that you applied through, you can now receive your payoneer card directly from payoneer through the link I showed you above and it will be shipped directly to you in Nigeria here by your house address or PO Box, whichever works for your house postage. You can also fund it directly from your Nigerian naira mastercard or visa card by yourself. So, I have activated my payoneer card and I proceeded to load it on payoneer website using my Union Bank Naira Visa card and it worked. But loading/funding of Payoneer card is not instant unlike the case of funding/uploading fund to a Moneybooker/Skrill account using my GTB Naira visa card. This is because Payoneer will manually approved and add the fund within 2-3 days. You will then see the balance in your Payoneer card account.

Step 6: From when your balance shows in your payoneer card, you can fund your paypal account. This is possible because anytime you want to pay someone by paypal, or another paypal account (e.g ebay seller) sends you a request for money, you can make the payment because when you click to make the payment, Paypal will take you to a page where it will show what available balance you have in your account and will also list options to make payment from your added Payoneer's US bank account as well as the added debit/credit card. So, if there is no balance in your Paypal account, just choose the bank account option or choose the debit/credit card option (for instant payment) and the money would be taken by Paypal from your chosen source. The same way goes for when you have balance in your paypal and you want to withdraw to your Payoneer's US bank account, it will be processed by Paypal within 2 days and your Payoneer card will receive the money so that you can spend your paypal fund here in Naira from any ATM that accepts Mastercard.

The Moneybookers/Skrill alternative is that you can add your Payoneer's US bank details to your list of banks and you can instantly upload from Naira GTB Mastercard to Skrill. From Skrill to Payoneer US Bank is within 2 days. Actually, you can instantly transfer money from Moneybookers to a visa card (and not Mastercard) but such card cannot be Nigerian and cannot be US card (non-gaming/casino support) but other foreign or European visa cards. Anyway, when the money shows in your payoneer account, you already have it linked to your paypal and that becomes means of funding/payment through paypal.

The final alternative I know for buying things from a site/seller that accepts paypal is when you get to paypal checkout page, look for the option to pay by debit/credit card. If you have a foreign (US) card with US issued address, enter it without logging into paypal first, and the paypal payment will be successful. I have tried all these options and they worked.

BusinessRe: Pls Help How Do I Fund Paypal By Myself??? by arbitrage:
I was planning to open a thread to explain what you have just asked but let me use your question as a means of answering. I actually have Paypal account that I use and I usually access from office because the ISP at work is foreign and so I have no problem.

First, let me mention that the prerequisite for this guide is that you need a foreign Internet Protocol (IP), which many have been advertising here on Nairaland as Virtual Private Network (VPN) access. You may decide to pay for such VPN access or use some free VPN servers (though some advertisers do discourage using free option VPN servers). I wanted to upload here in the past some browsers that are having option to choose country and IP addresses but they seem too big in file size than allowed upload limit.

The second prerequisite is having a foreign bank issued card. Preferably, get card like Payoneer Mastercard because it comes with a US bank account details. I used my Visa card from Netspend.com because it also has US bank account details but it is not usually delivered to address outside the USA unlike Payoneer that can be sent to you here in Nigeria. The alternative to this foreign/USA card with US bank details is having a Moneybookers/Skrill account, which I usually fund/load instantly from my GTB Naira Mastercard.

The steps I am talking about are the ones I just put into practice this April 2013. I actually opened the paypal business account at work, meaning that I used the permanent foreign IP access BUT I can and I have also accessed it at home using my Nigerian mobile networks through the opera mini browser from my tablet. Therefore, I think one can actually use free VPN server like that provided through opera mini browser and blackberry phones (that usually come with foreign IPs).

Step 1: Confirm that your browser is not showing a Nigerian IP but foreign IP by visiting whatismyipaddress.com or ip2location.com before you proceed. Sometimes, the opera mini om my tablet shows European IP but I only use it when it shows IP from the USA.

Step 2: Visit paypal.com and click to open/register a new account and activate the account by confirming the paypal email that will be sent to you immediately. Now you have an unverified payapl account with limitation to amount of deposit and withdrawal you can make.

Next step will be verification of your paypal. I will continue later.

Sorry about your ordeal. Can you send your friend who dropped of your item to visit them again at least to ascertain what is going on? I guess the company is run by Nigerians?

If you can afford the money, I will suggest you use companies like Access USA (myUS.com), myamericanshipper.com, etc. I still got my Amazon items (ordered last week) delivered in my place yesterday. The shipping time between them and Nigeria is just 3 days. In fact, it gets here a day after it leaves the US and they use DHL (or Fedex) to deliver at your doorstep. It may be costlier than this people that are disappointing you now (like the newly released Samsung Smart TV I am shipping for $926, though still cheaper than last year model available in Nigeria) but the speed and reliability worth it.

2sexy.us:
Yes you can do all that with GTB naira mastercard. They will charge u 3k for dia token

or Use UBA Africard. I have never had problem with mine. It cost me 750 to get one and all I went to the bank with was just national ID and 2 passort photo. I got there and was given a form to fill.
You do not even need token to use the card online since the Naira Mastercard details will be all you are entering on the seller's website. Except the website also subscribed to Mastercard securecode, which will require you to use your token to generate securecode on GTB internet banking.

Just go to catchvideo.net and paste you youtube link into it and then you can capture the clip and upload to Nairaland here if the file size permits you on Nairaland.

Alternatively, you can just change (i.e replace) the word "youtube" in that link to "voobys" and click enter. It will give you options to save the video clip into many formats. But the pre-requisite for this method is that your system/pc must have java program installed for it to work.
