CEO of Kennis Music, the label Goldie was signed on, Kenny Ogungbe has issued a statement detailing the final hours of the late singer. “With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening. We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her. She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss.” Goldie’s remains have been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH mortuary. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/goldie-how-she-died-kenny-ogungbe/ |

With much respect to Moses, that team was not built around him or any other players in the team, not even Mikel Obi.It would have been devastating if it was the other way round. Its a team with natural talents and players with brilliant display of skill and composure.Without him,the Eagles can still do the damage though his contributions are invaluable anyday anytime. |
ABUJA—Former Minister of the Federal capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was mortally afraid that late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua would arrest him in spite of the fact that he principally helped Yar’Adua to the presidency. In his book, “The Accidental Public Servant,” el-Rufai said that Yar’Adua’s perceived willingness to arrest Obasanjo ran counter to Obasanjo’s motive for endorsing the Umaru Yar’Adua/ Goodluck Jonathan presidency in 2007, which he contended was with the hope that he would be succeeded by the two men whom he considered weak and would do his biddings. The Yar’Adua/Jonathan ticket “There are those who say Obasanjo’s revenge for his third term defeat was intentionally picking two incompetent people to be president and vice- president, but I do not full agree with that. I think Obasanjo picked them for a different reason. He thought they were weak people he could control and through whom he would continue to exercise power. I think that he thought Yar’Adua would be an acceptable president, but would be weak and subservient to him in many policy areas and would be consulting him regularly so that Obasanjo might be a Lee Kuan Yew sort of figure exercising power from behind the scenes.” According to el-Rufai, it was not long in the administration of Yar’Adua when it became very clear to the Otta chicken farmer that Yar’Adua would be his own man when the late president revolted against him and reversed virtually everything he did. The former minister added that all through the period late Yar’Adua was in power, Chief Obasanjo lived in fear of arrest as Yar’Adua was investigating him and would have promptly arrested him. El-Rufai said: “If I am just naïve and the ticket that ended up succeeding Obasanjo was meant to be a third term revenge, it did not exactly work out. Yar’Adua revolted against him, reversed virtually everything he did and even began investigating him. Obasanjo recently admitted to a close friend of ours that throughout the years Yar’Adua was in power, he was constantly in fear of being arrested because it was clear to him that at some point, Yar’Adua was after him. How Yar’Adua wanted to nail me Mallam el-Rufai alleged that late Yar’Adua wanted to nail him at all costs and that the Public Hearing on land administration in the FCT under him which was conducted by the Senate was to find something to latch unto for that purpose. According to him, even though the sale of houses yielded N96 billion, N64 billion was in the account because some of the purchases were through mortgage and the full values were yet to be paid. Why I ejected late Justice Sambo The former Minister also justified the ejection of former Chairman, Code of Conduct Tribunal, late Justice Bashir Sambo from his official residence in 2006, saying at that time the jurist was an illegal tenant in the house. El-Rufai, however, dismissed suggestion that the death of Justice Sambo few months later was caused by his forceful ejection from the residence. According to him, “Perhaps the most publicised controversy arising from the sale of houses programme was the ejection of Justice Bashir Sambo in August 2006 from his official residence located at 1, Aso Drive, Maitama District. At the time, the carefully choreographed media war led by the Daily Trust newspaper was going on, I chose to maintain silence, and just directed the Secretariat to put out full-page adverts explaining what it had done and why. I thought that was the end of it. “Sadly, less than a year later, Justice Sambo who was former chairman of Code of Conduct Tribunal, died on April 29, 2007 in a Cairo Hospital. He was 76 years old and had been ill for some time. “For that reason, I decided never to join issues with those who thought that the ejection of the deceased jurist was inappropriate and went as far as suggesting that it was the cause of his “premature” death. “I will simply tell my side of the story on the sale of the house in question, subsequent cancellation, and the actions that followed naturally with reference only to letters written by Justice Sambo, himself and the other officials in the government. These exchanges of correspondence culminated in my directive to the sales secretariat on July 17, 2006 to eject him immediately from the house in question because he had by then become an illegal tenant.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/2/obasanjo-lived-in-fear-of-arrest under Yar’Adua –el-rufai/ |

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) – Twitter said Friday it had been hit by a “sophisticated” cyber attack similar to those that recently hit major Western news outlets, and that the passwords of about 250,000 users were stolen. “This attack was not the work of amateurs, and we do not believe it was an isolated incident,” Twitter information security director Bob Lord said in a blog post. Lord referred to an “uptick in large- scale security attacks aimed at US technology and media companies” as he told of Twitter detecting attempts this week to get unauthorized access to data in the firm’s network. The attack coincided with the revelation of several high-profile security breaches. The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal said this week that they had been hacked, and pointed to hackers from China. Twitter did not confirm the source of the intrusion. But Lord noted that “the attackers were extremely sophisticated, and we believe other companies and organizations have also been recently similarly attacked.” He said that Twitter shut down a live attack as it was in process. However, Lord added, cyber attackers may have gotten usernames, email addresses, passwords and other data. As a precaution, Twitter invalidated passwords of accounts at issue and sent people email messages telling them to create new passwords. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/twitter-hit-by-sophisticated-cyber-attack/ |
•Says Achebe is living in the past Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of mismanaging the security issues engulfing the country. Obasanjo stated this in an exclusive interview published in the February issue of the pan-African magazine, New African. He blamed Jonathan for the deteriorating situation caused by the insurgent Boko Haram. President Jonathan and former President Obasanjo President Jonathan and former President Obasanjo “If the President is the chief security officer of the country and there is a security problem, where do you go for the solution? And if that solution is not coming from the chief security officer, who else inside and outside will get a solution? He has the responsibility to solve the problem, and nobody else should be blamed but him.” In a wide-ranging interview, the former General also challenged claims made by Nigerian literary giant, Chinua Achebe, regarding the country’s civil war in the 1960s. Obasanjo rebuffed claims that successive Nigerian administrations have marginalized the Igbo ethnic group within the country. “Maybe he is making those remarks because he is not living in Nigeria. If he was living in Nigeria, when I was the president of this country, an Igbo lady was my Minister of Finance, and Igbo man was the Governor of the Central Bank; an Igbo man was one of the military service chiefs. The permanent representative to the UN was also an Igbo person. What more do you want? For someone to say the civil war has not ended, 40 years after its conclusion, that person is living in the past.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/blame-jonathan-for-insecurity-obj/ |

Siena: Wow. So because I prefer not to let the green-eyed monster colour my judgement, I must be Ghanaian. You dont know him(the King).Neither can u affirm or debunk people's claim about his excesses. Then drop no comment. That makes you neutral. |
We live in the modern/techno age. If you claim someone is a thief, you better spill out the PROOF or shut the freck up. Hearsay is no longer tolerated. Until you have PROOF that he stole anything, this is LIBEL
You need proof? Finish soaking ur garri then come for PROOF |
Siena: A lot of envy and bitterness on this thread. It's his money, his car, his choice. Wealth is relative. To him, this is like the majority on here buying a 2009 Range Rover Sport. Nothing wrong with it. Misplaced priorities, I saw someone post? No more misplaced than one who earns 100,000 NGN per month, yet runs a 2011 Toyota Camry XLE.i respect the right you have to air your opinions but i must confess, you are not serious.Maybe you are a Ghanaian, but in Nigeria,we dont celebrate thieves.Oba Federick Obateru is an oil cabal,a subsidy thief who even as King has left his subjects poorer than ever.I have a friend who is from that town, and he has nothing good 2say about the King. Since u dont know him(the King)you would have done better by not posting at all,and if u are tempted to,u should have switched it off.No offence,My candid opinion. |
