Igbo enweghi Eze is actually true for many Igbo communities east of the niger except places like Onicha, Nri etc. Kingship is common among those in the west of the niger.

Nothing like council of chiefs in those places with no kings, what was practiced was direct democracy where every male in that community must have a say on anything to be done, the meeting is only presided by the eldest male and he has no extra influence over any decision taken by everyone, this is the republican nature of the Igbos which was destroyed by the British and unfortunately sustained by nollywood today. I've never seen any nollywood epic movie where there is no king and a special position for his wife, such was alien to the Igbos of that era.

Only few peoples in the world practiced such mode of governance, the Swiss had since mixed theirs with indirect democracy practiced everywhere now.
