You obviously haven't read your bible. The problem with people like you; you take the interpretations of others as to mean the actual writings in the bible. You have a head don't you? Christianity EtcRe: Is Morality Subjective Or Objective by Areaboy2(m): 10:25pm On Nov 26, 2012
wiegraf: So one could say some bits are objective, others are not, maybe? But where to draw the line, like you've indicated.

Consider how the good mayans loved a sacrifice. Or lions who don't care much for the cubs of males they've killed/driven off, so they kill them. Even if shaped by nature, it seems to be determined arbitrarily by random mutations. One species might decide killing babies aids, the other doesn't. One tribe thinks human sacrifices would solve their problems, others don't.
I see where you're going with this. And I must say I do agree with you. Morality seem to shaped by the evolutionary process (us in this case). The longer we remain as a species, the better our morals get in dealing with one another. For the greater good maybe?

2+2 = 5 (for extremely large values of 2 tongue ) grin grin grin

@ topic, I have indeed battled with this question over sometime now and certainly cant come to a conclusive answer to satisfy all my questions.

Well, the first obvious one has to do with conciousness. Are we really? or is it all an illusion? hmmm

For simple definitions of consciousness, experiments have shown chimps and dolphins to be concious (ie they can recognize their own image in the mirror)

Both animals mentioned are very social animals and exhibits elements of morality (sense of good or bad). Chimps have been known to expel a member of their group for wrong doing.

Taking the other groups of animals that do not exhibit conciousness, Instincts and evolution takes the front seat. Guiding them on what is "good" or what is "bad" in order to survive.

This idea leans towards morality being objective, thus universal.

But then things turn upside down when I now ask the next question

Does morality necessarily translate into doing the right thing?. If no, then how can morality ever be really measured as being objective or subjective?

A tribe in Borneo pride themselves with how many heads of outsiders they have chopped off. Now in this same tribe it is wrong to kill anyone in their community. So, on one hand it is wrong to kill, and on the other it is Good

Christianity EtcRe: There Is No 'God' In The Bible by Areaboy2(m): 4:34am On Nov 26, 2012
After glancing through, I wanted to Ignore this write up and move to something else. But once I saw the name Zecharia Sitchins in one of the replies, I had to take my time to read through the entire thing to see if any distortions of the truth exists. It is very common by people to distort facts to suit their own agenda. Sitchins is a god in doing this, but this has almost nothing to do with him. Although we notice patterns and his style in this as I will explain further.

I've had the chance to spend some good time on this topic a few years ago and I have a fair idea of almost every point raised from 1-8 and will explain and point out the distortions as the come and will rate them as True, False, or Half-truth/distortion

1. The origin of Man.

First of all, I will just like to dispell the myth that what the original Hebrew text is referring to here as tselem is in no way DNA.

like the text pointed out, "thing that contains our image" = tselem. Here we see a classic case of deliberate distortion. Let me explain; It is true the word tselem has more than one meaning and is dependent on context, scholars generally attribute the word to meaning "thing that contains".. or more clearly, "that which represents". When you look up the meaning of that phrase you realise that the entire phrase means image. And image cannot be forced into that phrase any more.

So basicaly, tselem means image and not as depicted in the write up.

Having cleared that up, It is important to note that the general theme behind the creation of humans by Elohim is the core belief of a cult/religion called Raelism. They also go ahead to believe that those Elohims are aliens and the transferred to earth to create use, A few steps short of Scientology to be honest.

True Elohim does not translate directly to "god", however it is dependent on context to mean "gods" or "god" ie plural or singular (this is still used in this fashion today in modern Hebrew), again another clear distortion

It is true the Hebrew bible "borrows" some idea from older belief systems, For example the story of Noah and his boat can be found on a Sumerian stone tablet that dates over 1000 years before the Hebrews wrote it down. Of course with a different name from Noah but the story is basically the same. This doesn't mean that everything was from the ancients. They had ideas from the Babylonians, Assyrians, Canaanites, along with their own ideas.

Going further with this, The religion that is Judaism has its origins from the Babylonians and Canaanites. There is an ancient Babylonian text called the Enuma Elish that dates back 1700 year BCE. This has the original creation story the Hebrew bible basically stole and modified to fit their needs. Of the many gods the Canaanites worshipped, three are very important for this write up and they are El Elyon(most high god), Ashera (god of fertility birth and wife of el elyon), and Baal (god of storm/fertility of land).

A. This is not entirely true again, there were lines of "first mothers" but most(not all) that survived came from one "mother" and yes the mitochondrial DNA does show this

B. Its called Mutation. Telomere - Telomere fusion caused the mutation. It is a mistake and mistakes do happen all the time, as long as there is a minute chance of something happening, it will happen given the right amount of time

C. They haven't found a missing link doesn't mean the idea of "creation" is valid. They have found almost everything else that confirms the link must be there somewhere.

In conclusion, This is just Raelism. Do read about them
Verdict: the general idea is false

2 - Omnipotent, Omniscient, Spiritual God

Agreed the Catholic church did embellish a lot of things in the beginning, But the way Biglino presents this is misleading

There were three priests in the bible that were "champions" of ywhw (or "yahwehist" as they were called), namely : Isaiah, Hosea and Amos. All three of them had their versions of ywhw that reflects their own image and what they were going through at the time. King Josiah became a ywhwist and demanded an absolute submission to ywhw as the true god. Hence, "you shall have no other god before me" (10 commandments). Mind you, the book of Deuteronomy appeared around the time of King Josiah and attributed to Moses. Scholars today have come to agree that the book of Deuteronomy is actually a forgery

Anyway, back to the story of ywhw, these 3 prophets/priests tried their best to convince people to worship their god of war that delivered them from Egypt but there was really no longer need for him since relative peace existed. Therefore the Israelites reverted to the Canaanite gods (Asheera and Baal) for fertility and success. After plenty cries from the "ywhwists", The Assyrians attacked and conquered the northern tribes but however occupied rather than evacuate.

The babylonians came later and evacuated all of them from Israel back to Babylon. Jeremiah Blamed all their problems to worshipping other "gods" and announced that Babylon was a punishment for their sins by Ywhw where they famously sang;

"By the rivers of babylon"
"How can we sing our lord (ywhw) song, In a strange land".

After all these a new prophet popped up, Scholars refer to him as Second Isaiah where he recorded Ywhw as saying;
"I am the first and I am the last, besides me there is no god (Isaiah 44:6)

This basically covers the idea of Omni everything

Verdict: research for yourself and make your own conclusions

3- Elohim
Abraham worshipped "El Shaddai" (one of the names of the Canaanite god "El Elyon" ), Jacob also worshipped "El Elyon" and even wrestled with him as recorded in the Hebrew texts after which Jacob makes "El Elyon" his "Elohim". All these are simply translated to mean "Lord" or "god" in English so if you read the English translation you'll never know.

With this in mind, there is no Way "Elohim" can mean a group of gods when the texts reads that Jacob declares "El Elyon" to be his "Elohim" (his primary god).

Verdict: Distortion

4 - Yahweh or {Yahweh Sabaoth(god of the armies)} was not a god

Ywhw only pops out when the Israelites were in captivity in Egypt. Although there is no archaeological evidence that the Egyptians ever had slaves numbering to what the bible tells us, let us assume they had. Ywhw appears to Moses in the form of a burning bush as the story goes and when Moses asked his name he said I am that I am.

lets take our minds back to the songs we sing (or "sang" in my case) from the bible. Exodus 15:11

"Who is like unto thee? oh lord, who is like unto thee? Amongst all the gods, who is like thee?....la la la la" The Hebrew version of this song changes "lord" to YWHW. So they did indeed consider Yahweh to be a god or at least one of the gods. Since he rescued them from Egypt, he became their god of war. Exodus 15:3. "The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name" (again, Lord here = ywhw in the original Hebrew texts)

whether he actually was a god or considered to be a god by the isrealites, the fact remain that the texts do support a "god" ywhw. So biglino is telling a lie here

Verdict: Following the texts, False

5 - Even god dies

Asheera, Baal and the rest were pretty much killed

Verdict: True

6 - The angels

Mostly true here. But I'm sure they twisted a bit here too. I will have to read up again to say something concrete here.
Verdict: True

7 - The Hebrew Language

Again, mostly true as the language only showed up later. Given the forged nature of one book in the Torah (Deuteronomy) it is highly disputed the even Moses did not exist but simply a legend

Verdict: True

8 - The Ten commandment

This is hardly relevant as these laws are too old and really do not give us a moral compass. Although I will point out that the line of argument here is flawed from start with this idea of Yahweh not wanting to create a religion.

The Israelites created Yahweh as I pointed out above and not the other way around.

Verdict: False

Summary, there is a god in the bible. He was only made up by men to make sense of their world around them. Biglino or what ever he called himself is only trying to be controversial just to sell books.

Car TalkRe: Acura TL 04/5 And Acura TSX 05 Which Is More Economical And Beta To Use In Naija by Areaboy2(m): 2:04am On Nov 25, 2012
I guess the TSX is simply a European Honda Accord base with some extra luxury features for american market. Never had one nor test driven

TL on the other hand is an entirely different platform and chock-a-block full of Luxury options of which you just cant go wrong. The range you identified is the 3rd generation TL which is one of the best looking TL out there (the new ones are just ugly angry )
It comes standard with a 5-speed semi-automatic gearbox and a 3.2litre v6 v-tech motor. A great engine to say the least and not as high on the fuel demand as you might think. I had a V6 eod before that TL and they both consumed about thesame (not minding the honda having a smaller engine of 3.0). Between 250 - 350km at each full tank depending on your driving style
If you must get a TL, I'll advice on the 06 model due to its improved reliability compared to all pre "Type-S" models

oh and take it from me, the 225wt 5.1 surround-sound audio in a TL is just heaven. It also plays DVD audio for that full 5.1 surround experience

It all comes down to your budget. The TSX will be cheaper than a TL and easier to maintain however the TL moves up a notch to that mid-size luxury sedan you've always wanted.

it is important to note that these are all Honda products and a decent Honda Technician will know what he is doing. Secondly, you don't take any action until you run diagnostics. So, as far as the TSX or the TL goes, they will require the same amount of care when it comes to mechanics and roughly the same basic parts as a Honda accord
