teamchocolate:Ok. But in developed climes, we talk of multidisciplinary team. We now have "nurse specialists, consultant nurse".....and so on. Nurses are doing more specialised job, and delegating more jobs to nurses, provided they are trained to do so, is the way forward. Patients get treated quicker. Midwives now do a whole lot, and O&G docs don't have to see some at all. Same with dialysis & to some extent with chemotherapy/radiotherapy. Why this epistle? Because you might be in a position in the health service some day to bring progressive approach. That way, the cat & mouse thing between docs & other healthcare professionals in 9ja will reduce. |
teamchocolate:US is just one country. Even US has a Secretary of Health & Human Services. Current one is Sylvia Matthews Burwell. UK, Eire, France, Germany, Australia, South Africa, India and most commonwealth countries have one. Surgeon-General is NOT minister of health, please don't mislead people. It's equivalent to Chief Medical Officer in UK. There is Chief Nursing Officer too. I have even met both Liam & Sally, previous & Current CMOs. Haba! Just admit and learn if you don't know something. |
teamchocolate:I don't really condone insulting anybody but in most countries, health ministers are not doctors, not even pharmacists or nurses. Yet they do brilliant jobs. I know many medical profs. Most won't make good administrators/ministers. Being a dean, VC or MD of a teaching hospital won't necessarily prepare one for such a political job. Except they have more extensive exposure to politics previously. Like Chris Ngige, Peter Odili (though PDP member), etc. I think they should stick to medicine/surgery & research. |
ojimbo:Maybe when we start emulating Jesus instead of worshipping jetsetters, recognise that faith without work is dead, just maybe then, we will get our acts together. ![]() |

Lamasta:Nor mind them. If it was during GEJ's time, they would say he must have got an ogogoro drinker to write it. Their embarrassment is so profound that they are on 24/7 face-saving mission. ![]() They have their work cut out. From defending wrong budget, to defending error in letter to correct wrong budget, and defending rip off bank deposit/transfer charges and policy flip flop/summersault. ![]() |
udemzy101:Abi o. Instead of making the country the butt of ridicule. Who knows all the gbagaun they blow inside diplomatic letters to UN, ECOWAS, UNESCO, WTO, EU and countries/missions they write letters to? A country that produced Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Ben Okri, Emecheta, Adiche, Saro-Wiwa and more. Chai! ![]() |
So the presidency with well-paid appointees, SAs & SSAs cannot write a letter of a few lines without errors? Why do we lack attention to detail even at the highest level? Does it mean nobody proof-reads these letters? What a mess. |
cktheluckyman:Jonathan as VP personally went to meet with creek militants without bodyguards, with extremely high risk of being kidnapped to negotiate on behalf of FG. I guess you have selectively forgotten that now. In trying to discredit GEJ, we should not rewrite history so soon. Was VP Sambo able to negotiate peace deal with Boko Haram on behalf of FG? Capital NO. |
olayemifisayo:Thank you sir. What's the cost involved in managing one acre for example: clearing, ploughing, seedlings, planting, weeding, harvesting, marketing & your commission? For plants like Watermelon, Plantain, Cassava, cucumber. That would be used to see how much for more acres if necessary. |
meforyou1:Hahahaha! Chai! Wahala dey o. So you even discriminate against core Igbo people like Ebonyi people? What of Anioma then? ![]() I have no Igbo ancestry whatsoever. I just know they have great work ethic, business acumen and superb intelligence. From all over Igboland. I have no reason to discriminate against anyone. Because I have great sense of my history & civilisation. Discriminating against a section of your own tribe shows your innate primitive dispensation. God forbid. |
mobaladf:It's a good pension investment. Basically eight houses in one. But we overbuild in 9ja. Those pillars gulp money and hardly add anything except to appear ostentatious. You can still build those houses to be beautiful and look more sleek/slim line, yet command similar rental value. That would increase ROI. |
Hahahaha! The Zombies are secretly saying "Baba GMB, no come use shame catch us o, Wailing wailers will roast us". But they cannot admit it publicly on NL. Only very few are willing to say so here. You know some people will rather "commit suicide" than kill themselves out of shame. ![]() Dame Patience's grammar suddenly make sense. Showing two fingers to those who used to laugh at her. ![]() |
ritababe:My dear, we have brilliant molecular biologists, geneticists, biochemists, pharmacologists and an array of other medical/biomedical scientists. We have the highest prevalence of twin births in the world. All these resources are pure gold mine for scientific research. But we never use them. I shake my head when I stumble upon medical research done at Uniben/UBTH, UI/UCH, ABU, UNN, Unilag/LUTH and other schools in Nigeria back in the 1970s/early 1980s. They were on par with Oxbridge & University of London standard. But alas, we went to sleep. Dornroeschen schlaefchen as Germans would say. |
meforyou1:You are very naïve. 70% of Nigerians live in the rural areas. Where do you think your grandparents come from? New York City? ![]() How many boreholes have you sunk in your life to help others with relatively clean water? I sunk my first one about 20 years ago. I mentioned it in the "Mini-gas plant thread" on NL some days ago. Writing rubbish & criticising things here behind computer/phone screen is easy. Those who criticise everything often contribute the least. |
LOVEGINO:Not that logical as you think. this would be a nice clean river before dry season. Digging would disrupt the river bed. Might yield water for now, but would affect flow later on. They learnt over centuries to let water seep out little by little, makes it cleaner too. ![]() |
babseg:Actually, he reaped what he sowed. Like he harvested the bad corn he planted. A theme common in the Bible. ![]() |
sucess001:Having seen some of those meals in real life and in pics of friends' kids in schools, they are not really far from it. Remember meals change daily. The French one might contain baguette/French bread stick lump next day. Problem with 9ja is embezzlement. Not much left to buy decent trays/plates to serve the food. Even cooks will corner rice, garri, beans, ingredient and take home. ![]() |
lawanson44:Exactly, very nutritious & low calories. French, Spanish & Italian in that order. |
RIP |
adekanmbi1986:Seconded |
Spybradd:I tire o. APC just have trouble abiding by basic rules. Faleke & Audu were on a joint ticket. Votes had already been cast in most places, whether conclusive or not. If APC was a party that plays straight politics and lead by example, Faleke should get the mandate. They can then negotiate with him to go for only one term in office. If he reneges in 4 years' time, they can use the legislators to impeach him. |
Mtschew..... So there are people who still believe people just because they bear pastor title. ![]() My experience with certain so-called pastors make me suspect pastors more than the average person out there. Once & twice bitten, gazillion times shy. ![]() |
Nice one. |
Congrats! You have got yourself a fine Edo bride. Joining the league of OBJ, Danjuma & co. ![]() You can manage 500k. Sit down with your babe and decide what's important. She can let her family know the size of the occasion you're planning. Certainly let her know your budget and you can both work around that. No need to rent a hall. The bride's family house, church's own hall or local school will do nicely for reception. Generally in Edo, bride price is a token. In many families, they even return most of the token to you. Symbolically to use to look after their daughter. As for the list, there are slight variations from village to village, from town to town. Your in-laws will give you your exact list. You're sure to enjoy the colourful occasion. Tip: a contingency sum of about 100k would be a good thing. |
Louislewis:Well, they have abdicated the job of water provision to private individuals using boreholes. You thought chanting "change" will actually change anything? |
adewasco2k:Well, for those of us with a few years on our backs, it's not really lame. Because it used to be Taiwan. Any substandard good used to called "Taiwan". If you went to an Igbo man's shop, you'd ask not to be given Taiwan Walkman, Cassette recorder, camera, fan belt or even cutlass sef. Taiwan was even technologically way ahead of China then. |
tsdarkside:Running it always does. After all it even did when Yar'Adua was comatose. On cabal & autopilot. ![]() |
oglalasioux:Stopping the marriage is not his business. BUT... his Egbon needs to know the whole truth. Imagine a scenario where 5 or 10 years later, the girl's parents make her to deal mercilessly with his Egbon. And then the OP now comes out with all he knows about his in-laws. Would that not be "betraying" Egbon on such a crucial life matter like marriage?? |
ladyF:Very correct. That family will also not hesitate to use their daughter to attack her husband in the future. It might be to divorce him and collect his property in America. @ OP, How can the girl's parents even look your family eye to eye and form happy in-laws? Children learn things from their parents. I won't risk marrying a girl from such a family. She might appear "cool-headed" now, they usually are until marriage. Then they show their true colours. Olorun maje. |
I hope her family ia already aware. Na another man pikin dey your house, except you wan enter wahala. |
4nobody4every1:I think that is the wrong way to look at it. To the world for centuries, Oyo Empire kept the flag flying. Fighting off Jihadists that would have subjugated all of Yourubaland under the Fulanis. Despite losing Illorin. Benin Empire did same to Keep jihadists from invading Northern Edo from Idah. The wars lasted good six years. The Hausa kingdoms for example did not succeed in doing that. But before that, Oodua and his descendant rulers enabled the process of at least minimally centralizing Yorubaland towards a greater sense of ethnic/cultural identity. And that is no mean feat. At this point in history, it should be about complimenting each other:The Ooni, Alaafin, Awujale, Olowo, Alake, Deji, Eleko, Olubadan, Ataoja, Soun, and many others. |
