Ooni unveils nursery of one million cocoa trees for youth empowerment

The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II) has unveiled a nursery plant of one million cocoa pots and trees in Ile-Ife, to be distributed as part of his Youth Empowerment programme.

The programme is part of the Ooni’s quest to see the revival of agriculture through 100,000 youths and thousands of widows who are victims of the communal war between Ife and Modakeke.

Comrade Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s palace, said in a statement that Kabiyesi is saddened by the neglect of cocoa farming which was once a major foreign exchange earner in Nigeria especially in the Southwest.

He said the Arole Oodua who is the Grand Patron of the Graduate Farmers Association of Nigeria has imperatively chosen agriculture and cocoa specifically, which now sells for about $3,000 dollars per tonne as a perfect alternative to the dwindling crude oil now selling below $40 dollars per barrel.

With the latest unveiling, the Ooni has embarked on a journey to create the largest cocoa plantation nursery in Nigeria. The scheme targets 10 million trees to be rolled out in one million phases with the youths getting 2000 plants each.

The Ooni’s position is that “if we have stronger partnerships/alliances with Government, for it is a very capital intensive venture, it is not impossible to expand the cocoa plantation nursery to well over 100m trees to be spread across the entire country just to bring back the cocoa days”

The Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola has thrown his weight behind the project which is sure to improve the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.

The programme has gone into the following collaborations:

The Federal Government through Minister of Agriculture Chief Audu Ogbe has given a nod of cooperation for the greenfield to enjoy mechanization to produce hybrids and improved seedlings that will yeild 2000kg to be harvested all year round.
Dynamic Green Concept Ltd, a USA based company from Dallas for soil improvement.
A strategic partnership with the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN).
Kabiyesi will also in June visit Hersey Chocolate factory in Philadelphia which is the American biggest Chocolate factory for the supply of cocoa beans and for further value addition to cocoa processing in Nigeria before exportation.

Olafare added:

Having done our homework to satisfaction, and with some studies on countries like Ghana, Ivory Coast and Indonesia a country earlier with Zero cocoa production but today is the world’s second largest exporter of cocoa that have consistently in the last five decades based their economic sustainability on agriculture, the major way of taking the youths off the streets is to encourage them to go into lucrative farming.

And since Cocoa is undoubtedly a cash crop with potentials for foreign exchange earnings, we have thus decided to break the jinx as we already have plantation brownfield that has existed for about 100 years on which several farmers have been producing between 300 and 350 kilograms per hectare. And of course because those aged cocoa trees have spent about 100years, they are obviously too weak for expected productivity.

We therefore must start a new Greenfield of cocoa plantation with a pilot scheme at Ile-Ife and subsequently replicated across the country as we already have very good understanding of alliance with the North sequel to a meeting Kabiyesi Ooni’risa recently held in Sokoto with Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar and 6 Emirs on possible agricultural exchange of expertise.

It will be very great if only Government can support this laudable initiative and we can subsidize farmers from cocoa nursery trees. It will further encourage hundreds of thousands of youths to come into agriculture. From our effort, a lot of youths are already off the street and it has drastically reduced crime rate in Ife currently as confirmed by all the security agencies within our domain. This can be extended largely to every part of the country going forward.

The Ooni’s plan is to spread the idea to other cash crops and food crops most especially massive rice production in Nigeria.

Sis,

Institution and strength thereof is about leadership and collective willingness to foster it. It's not rocket science. If you look deeper at the Oil and Gas value chain, there are more than 10 Industries that are direct spin-off and more are dependent on the industry. Oil and Gas accelerated development in many countries including the United States.

Oil was a curse because our fore-fathers were ignorant and some greedy. The case of Lagos is different. Leaders in Lagos are well endowed, exposed and value-driven. They have methodically built Lagos with virtually no natural resource but ingenuity and innovation. Adding Oil to the mix for Lagos is more about expanding value in terms of associated industries, products and power.
Well said...

those meaningless internet yarns are oil and gas industry terms you wont comprehend.
What's your meaningless terms got to do with you not knowing anything about the content of that well or whatever deposits in the area?

Do you have any official exploration and discovery data stating what was found, amount and longevity of the well?

You don't know anything beyond your meaningless words and jargon so quit boring me with all that rubbish. Who do you think you are talking to really?

Those blocks i believe have been awarded, and exploration activities have been carried on them. you think it is today oil was found in that field? They had to do the economics to get the viability before they start production.
This dude is telling me that they have to do exploration before they discover oil? No, we don't know anything about that, we just think they don't explore and the oil just dey flow from the sky..

lol @ they have to do economics to check viability? Is this not common sense and standard procedure even for a common market trader? Do you really think you are revealing something valuable that's not know to even a school kid..

Dude, stop trying too hard to sound intelligent, not that I think you are though..

The oil price alone is enough to shut some fields as not being economically viable. As I always end it, Lets hope they get more reserves that will be beneficial for them, the state and the nation as a whole. instead of rushing to be in the league.
Of what importance and relevance is your empty layman rubbish and silly assumptions?

You are not in any position to reach any sane and rational conclusions about this or any operation beyond your meaningless ramblings and ignorant assumptions.

Do you have any operational documents, facts, business plans, strategies and contingencies about this company's operation to share with us?

Of course you don't have anything beyond your blah blah baseless and meaningless nonsense...

Yes I admit there might be reservoirs close by, but my brother it is not by common sense or history. It is by careful exploration and appraisal methods...Which involve money that need to be recovered. Oil might be found, but abandoned due to the fact that it is not commercial enough under certain circumstances. Taking into account economics, technicality, etc.

It is not by coming online to produce, and cover your expenses just so that you bear the "oil producing" tag. I hope they find more reserves...til then, I think 50Mbbls/day plateau rate is meagre. And if I am to guess, plateau will be for just about 10 years before decline.
And your internet and NL oil exploration, geology and engineering have scanned the whole basin and concluded that this is it and there's no more deposits in the whole basin and even determined the longevity of present discoveries..? grin

This list is pathetic.
Can you name one single project in SE and SS that was included in the recent multi billion agreements signed with the Chinese?

I'm not from that area but such brazen exclusion and cheating of certain parts of the country will only breed discontent and further divide the country.

Shortly after Buhari came to power he visited Cross River state and did groundbreaking with so much fun fare and publicity the planned Maiduguri-Calabar super highway designed to economically open up that part of the country, especially the Boko Haram ravaged North East. FG was to guarantee the loans to execute this project and by all accounts it would have greatly benefited the North East. However, since it would also force the FG to dredge the Calabar port and make it functional the forces that have conspired to kill Calabar port hurriedly prevailed on Buhari to pull out of a laudable project he has already publicly committed to.

We also heard if the president supports that project it will give the impression that he is supporting a state that did not vote for him. Is President Buhari now the President of APC States and not of Nigeria?
1. The Lagos calabar rail was negotiated in China and most of the funding is coming from China.

2. 2nd Niger bridge was inserted into the budget and to bd funded by the FG instead of GEJ's tolling arangement where SE people pay for tee their own bridge was slashed by NASS.

3. The government has nothing to do with any port not being utilised. The government can build anything and then force end uses to use and patronise the ports is just silly. You can build all the ports you want, it is still up to the end users to use them.

4. Based on population, customer base and disposable income, common sense dictates that you receive your goods and services and operate right there so where is the sense and wisdom in distracting your major market and Customer base just because you want ports in your villages. Makes no sense.

5. Ask akpabio what he did with all the billions he budgeted for ibaka for ao many years with nothing done...

LRNZH:
Your argument is terribly flawed on many levels my friend.
How comparable are the solid minerals and petroleum sector that you will justify the squandering of the opportunity the ND had to elevate itself from poverty under GEJ from almighty oil money?

Even if the North were to squander it's resources (from solid minerals or agriculture, which is not the case anyway), is that why the ND should squander it's oil money? Can two wrongs be justified?
Only Tompolo, Diezani, Dasuki, Obanikoro etc gained from GEJs tenure.

Bayelsa is a shame to GEJ's legacy of being in government since 1999.
No, your argument is utterly flawed. It's perfectly ok to question what was done with your money when you question other people about their wealth.

The oil producing States get more than their share of their oil money if all mamner of ways from basic allocations to derivations and on top of that they still have billions of NDDC dollars every year.

The States in the North you are talking about with their minerals and agric products don't get extra derivations for their resources and they don't have extra billions of dollars and a separate government agency like NDDC to tap into.

You point was not only flawed, it was illogical and grossly pointless..
