Since Mr Buhari came to power last July, a number of prominent members of the former ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have been arrested and imprisoned without charge. Among those detained was the party’s official spokesperson.
This is where you you should stop reading this trash and exit.

1. Metuh is not under any kind of detention without charges, in fact he's on trial based on specific charges that his lawyers are ready to defend with witnesses already giving testimonies..

Just to play the devil's advocate, the Governor is right. Any government that does not know how to lobby the legislature for a joint agreement on how to implement their programs is a useless government. Obama, is as we speak, trying fervently to lobby sympathetic Republican senators on accepting and confirming Merrick Garland for the supreme court
.

In Wielding Rarely Used Veto, President Obama Puts Budget Heat on Republicans

WASHINGTON — President Obama on Thursday vetoed a $612 billion defense policy bill, rejecting a broadly supported measure that sets funding for military salaries and equipment, and intensifying his struggle with the Republican-led Congress over federal spending
Apples and oranges. There's a clear clear difference supreme court nomination and Budgets before congress.

American presidents and congress fight all the time over budgets and in fact, they shut down the government because of disagreement over the budgets all the time.

Obama threatened to veto the last budget over republicans budget shenanigans while the republicans also threatened budget shutdown, but Obama called their bluff and refused to sign the budget till the republicans backed down..

You know nothign about America so please find something else to support your flawed views with.

PMB so far is playing too nice with the NASS because at this stage in the game, he should be calling their bluff and even refusing to sign their rubbish till his objectives are met because when things go wrong, we blame the president and not the NASS because the buck stops with the president.

All the Executive branch has to do is submit a Supplementary Budget for separate funding for the project.
Now in hindsight 20/20 after seeing what National obstructionists are capable of doing, they presidency should have, but that doesn't mean the presidency did the wrong thing, they did the right thing while hoping the other side of the wheel of government were ready to do the right thing.

Sending the Minister to amend and restructure his ministry's budget to reflect the project was a legit move, but the other side is basically hiding under the fact that the item was not in the original budget which remains a bogus and unintelligent excuse to coner the money to their area of access, influence and control.

simple thing, don't make it complicated. Buhari does not need to veto the budget cause it doesn't contain one item.
No, he did the simple thing already by simply adding amending to add the project, but others are making it difficult so he should just veto the whole budget and redraw it to reflect his wishes and let the lawmakers again delete the project in front of Nigerians.

He should call their bluff by terminating and restructuring the budget and have them delete the project out in the open without any not in the budget cover to hide under.

He needs to sign and approve the budget so other matters already passed in the budget can get funding and commence work. Then he just need to submit a supplemental budget to the House floor, open it for debate and let the legislators vote up or down.
No he doesn't have to sign anything or set any blackmail precedent for them to keep exploiting. He must stand his ground because any sabotage of his agenda or bad results economically or socially is going to be his fault, he's going to shoulder the blame like Nigerians are doing today even though he did not create the problems the country is facing and rightfully so because the buck stops with the president regardless. We are very shallow when it comes to leadership and apportioning blames..

He needs to start playing hardball simply because we have too many crooked and dangerous elements in government even within his own party who are ready to let the country sink or swim.

Matthewbriggs:
Lagos Calabar rail controversy : What everyone should know

There is an intense effort by some people to change the narrative regarding the controversial Lagos-Calabar rail project.

The current spin been sold is that SE&SS senators are against the progress of their people, so as to spite this administration, Also that the NASS is filled with bigoted northern senators who are out to disenfranchise the south with the southern senators doing nothing.

We can go on and debate what this controversy is all about, Spin doctors from both parties can continue to try to use this to further their political agenda, but in the midst of all this noise, it is important we put context to everything, look at the essence of this controversy and decide what the debate should really be about.

Let's start with the facts on the ground.

1. The presidency failed to submit this item in her original budget to the senate.
2. A minister tried to get the item in by approaching the senate
3. The Minster failed in doing so, given that at the end of the day, the executive discovered it wasn't added, hence all the controversy.

In between these 3 events, there are a lot of controversies, At this point it is important to put everything in context, focusing on the essence of what this controversy really represents.

The Fist Context is

1. We have an incompetent Executive - The current budget fiasco paints the executive as a bunch of confused people with no strong coordination internal and externally with Nigerians. Starting from a shoddy budget that went missing, the budget padding controversy and now the failure to adequately communicate what has really transpired in this Lagos - Calabar issue. Instead, she has chosen to throw blames as opposed to really taking responsibility and proposing a way to fix this situation. Committing gaffes upon gaffes for something very sensitive as the budget that powers the livelihood of over 200million Nigerians is a grouse sign of incompetence APC would never tolerate this from PDP if they were the opposition.

2. We have a disunited Ruling party - One of the key benefits of been the ruling party and also winning majority of seats in the House of assembly is that this helps the executive get things done. It aids easy communication and implementation of projects and visions of the executive because every member of the party understands that the success of the executive means the success of their party and them as well.

A dis-United APC is dangerous for Nigeria's progress, it's like APC is the ruling and opposing party. This is not what APC promised Nigerians. This should be the real subject of discussion, not the tribal bigoted crap that is trailing this debate.

APC should be tasked by Nigerians to get their house in other and deliver, as opposed to fighting themselves, allowing Nigerians that voted them in, to be the ground that suffers from their in-house shenanigans.

We need leadership yesterday, Nigeria must come first before party

3. SS & SE senators are not only to blame for their oversight and failure to speak up : The current spin by some Bigots is that the SS & SE senators in their bid to spite the Minister of Transport and the executive looked the other way as this project was omitted. This premise was established, Intentionally absolving the SW senators from any blame forgetting that this project will also benefit the SW. This is bigotry hiding under the facade of we are fight, for the interest of the SS and SE. While everyone know that you really don't care.

Ideally, all Southern senators are to be blamed for not standing and fighting for a project that will benefit their regions this is not a PDP or APC blame game this is the fact that our southern senators need to seat up and defend the interest of the people who put them there.

Your people must come first before the party.

4. Nigeria under the APC is becoming more disunited than ever: Truth be told the last election really did more harm to Nigeria's unity only topped by the civil war. The APC government instead of healing the wounds and uniting the nation is doing a much shoddy job that is further disuniting the nation, either through unchecked statements by the executive, the actions and inactions of the executive etc.

Allowing controversies like this to fester seems like the APC is comfortable been the party for the 95% as opposed to a party for all. The overall position and vibe of the Ruling party and her team of foot soldiers, tireless tries to drive home this fact.

That been said the real question is after the blame throwing where do we go from here as a nation. Will the APC seat up and truly provide the leadership this nation truly needs or will she continue to chase the wind for the next 3 years

Politics › Re: Lagos-calabar Rail Project: Those Worthy Of Knocks And Those For Commendation by aresa:
I was unusually going to commend you for this thread, but you as usual, you betrayed your own write up be excluding and failing to include and apportion blame to the local and national elected officials from the affected region and direct and primary beneficiaries of the $12 billion project and the largest public works in Nigeria.

As a public official, I'll do anything and twist every arm in sight to corner and inject $12 billion dollars , jobs and payroll taxes into my local economy even apart from the secondary benefits of the projects like opening up and developing my local communities.

Instead of standing up and fighting for this project, the officials from this region especially the now famous twitter based senator who camped out on twitter ranting rubbish everyday like a market woman instead of looking out for his people back home.

This is what you get when you apportioned to yourself the shouting and opposition leader position, attacking people everyday at the expense of your own people and primary responsibilities just like the other noisemaker in Ekiti.

What time do you exactly have left to your job after spending all your time on irrelevant and silly activities?

Where was this man when $12 billion and the largest public works project in sub saharan Africa was getting snatched from him and his people? He was of course not on the senate floor looking out for his people, he was as usual on twitter talking rubbish.

This man should have set politics aside and bipartisan with Amaechi to advance this project and make sure it sailed through the House and Senate. This is what great leaders are made of, this is how leaders bring home bacon to their local communities.

What is this man doing today? He's covering up his failure by attacking Amaechi and discrediting Amaechi who regardless of the short sighted and silly political bad feelings against him back home fought to send $12 billion and thousands of jobs to his people back home.

All the local leaders from distracted and goofy Wike down to Akpabio whose state and Uyo is going to be the Arrowhead of the project sat quietly, unconcerned and grossly ignorant. When this was going on, even if the project was not originally included in the budget should have arranged a meeting with Amaechi and other leaders from that region to make sure even errors were made, everything was done to correct the error and retain the project.

Sadly in this part of the country, politics comes before people and the electorates, hatred and bitterness comes before people and primary responsibilities.

This is what you don't see in other parts of the country, you don't see Northerners and SWners sitting on their hands and denying themselves major projects and opportunities and the North taking this money away to spend on other irrelevant and insignificant projects at the expense of the South.

The only PDP elected official from the South defending this project is from Lagos state/Originally from SE, regardless his tribal and political affiliation. Shows you that politics of hatred, bitterness, tribalism and do or die exist only in that part of the country/SE/SS. They don't mind detrimental ways and attitude against themselves and their own people all because of politics and hatred.

These useless leaders first and only priority remains progress and advancement of their own people back home, they should get together regardless of political affiliations to draw up agenda and federal projects and benefits to drag back home to their communities and reserve politics for elections.

It saddens that you are part of the same maladies your local leaders are suffering from, you don't hesitate to play the same destructive political game, you defend and promote the same ills and incompetent leaders.

The only portion of your write up I agreed with or even partially subscribe to is the part about the President not canceling the whole budget process and strictly insert and highlight his programs and objectives including this project and let the lawmakers play their shaddy game out in the open in front of Nigerians. The partially part is even if the presidency didn't include the project in the original budget, it is on record that the Minister not only inserted the project into his budget with funds the crooked lawmakers termed as floating funds when in fact we all know this is the same money set aside for the project, the same money they fraudulently diverted, but also debated in front of all the necessary committees.

The lawmakers are using the silly excuse that the project was not in the original budget to justify their shaddy desires when in fact it shouldn't be since it's on record that it was the other way around, the project and budget was credibly inserted and debated in front of the committees and lawmakers.

What we just witnessed means the battle for #Change has many obstacles, enemies, distractors and incompetent officials ready to make sure our country stay stagnant and buried like the same old ways of corruption and institutionalized incompetence..

A Quick diversion. The PDP chairmanship position was reserved and zoned to the SE, but after failed 4 SE PDP chairmanship because of infighting, backstabbing and resignations, the North took away the chairmanship position from them and zoned it to the North with the SE walking away quietly without objection.

This means the SS and the SE are still not ready for prime time. Cooperation and reaching out to attain common objectives delivers while communal hatred, bitterness and petty political fights and affiliations deprives as we just witnessed.

I am from the South East but will never shy away from the truth!

First of all, GEJ was not voted out for tribalism, he was voted out for his incompetence. I am from the South East but I will never shy away from the truth. Forget about the core North and South, look at results from the middle belt states where PDP previously controlled. PDP lost Benue States because GEJ kept quiet when the Fulanis butchered the Tivs in their homeland. GEJ lost because he kept quiet ad watch Suswam run the state like his personal possession. He lost out not because of tribalism but because of incompetence. In 2011, he defeated the same candidate with a wide margin, the same people that voted him in 2011, voted him out for his incompetence.

SO NEVER YOU PUT THE BLAME ON TRIBALISM, BLAME IT ON HIS INCOMPETENCE

Buhari has not made any significant impact since he became President, but you will agree with me that the level of power supply increased since he became President. Don't tell me GEJ owns the glory because power generation when he came in was a little above 4000 MW and he left us with less than 1000MW on May 29th.

ALSO NOTE THAT IT IS UNFAIR TO JUDGE A GOVT THAT INHERITED POWER WITH OIL PRICE THIS LOW. What was the performance of GEJ with oil price above $100 pb for five consecutive years? Is it fair to compare such a govt with another govt that has never witnessed oil price above $50 pb?

Its true we have fuel scarcity but is this the first time we are experiencing it in Nigeria. The last fuel scarcity occurred during GEJs era and we witnessed the closure of banks, airports, online portals and several other businesses for the first time in Nigeria's history. I guess you turned a blind eye then but now you are geared up to attack PMB for this setback. Fuel scarcities will always come and go, this isn't the first and will not be the last.

PMB has his flaws, just like every other human but he is very much better than GEJ. Nigeria made the right choice because I wonder how things would have been if GEJ had won the past elections.

The dude is correct in his assertions whether he is black, white, Igbo, non Igbo, South South or South West. Thank you
Unfortunately, these strays are too far gone to reach with your sane and thoughtful post because they function on pure hate, anger, bitterness, bigotry and unadulterated tribalism even when it's detrimental to their well being and way of life.

Ibaka sea port.
You can ask Jonathan and friends to fund that.
$3 billion only. Just a tiny amount out of the over $150 billion they looted.
Lagos - calabar is inconsequential to us and will lead to a destruction of our coastal fiona and fauna.
We would rather have lagos -shagamu- ibadan - ife -akure - Benin to terminate at Warri.
Despite the yearly allocation of several billions of naira for the construction of a proposed greenfield deep seaport at Ibaka in Akwa Ibom State by both the State Government and the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) since 2011, the project has remained elusive, with no evidence of a port being built at the proposed site.

The project is missing in the National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan and in the list of similar projects planned in partnership between the federal government and state government, with expectations of private investors collaborations, investigations by LEADERSHIP have revealed.

The Ibaka Deep Seaport, a project for which the federal ministry of transport, the NPA and the Akwa Ibom State Government have held several workshops and taken commendations at several events is also missing in a maritime and air transport report prepared by Steer Davies Gleave for the Infrastructure Consortium for Africa (ICA) hosted by

The African Development Bank.

The study, which was carried out to assess the potential for enhanced private participation in the maritime and air transport sectors in Africa however identified the Lekki Deep Seaport measuring 970m of container berths, 320m dry bulk berth, 1-2 oil berths and located 60km east of Lagos.

The Badagry greefield port, Koko Port and Olokola Port were also listed with their capacity and promoters.

The water at Ibaka is said to have a natural draft of 11 metres, without dredging, making it a huge potential for possible deep seaport construction.

Akwa Ibom State has continued to budget for the port, which Governor Godswill Akpabio said would create employment for 100,000 Nigerians.

The NPA had also told LEADERSHIP in Uyo at the PCC meeting that the deep seaport would be completed in 2015.

When LEADERSHIP visited the proposed site of the deep seaport at Ibaka, there was nothing to show that a seaport was being planned at coastal community.

A lonely dilapidated narrow road, better described as a colonial road leads to Ibaka, from Oron. As early as 2011, the Akwa Ibom State Governor told a Nigeria Ports Consultative Council (PCC) meeting in Uyo that his government had concluded plans to dualise the road.

http://allafrica.com/stories/201312160580.html
Akpabio budgets billions every year for this invisible seaport.

1. Ibaka seaport is not in the FG gazette and there is zero FG budget for it.

Meaning the FG doesn't know anything about this seaport officially

2. Akpabio budgets billions for this bridge every year with not even bush clearing or fence erected.

Meaning Akpabio pockets free billions every year.
