Christianity Etc › Re: Hymns Or Gospel Songs, Which Do You Prefer? by Arielle: 2:39pm On Jul 10, 2022
Lifelong Catholic and I prefer hymns. I even prefer masses where we sing the Creed and the Gloria in Latin. There also Nigerian hymns, in English and Nigerian languages that I really like. I can't abide choruses. And all the noise, singing and dancing, is a big distraction for me. To each his own, I guess. There are some who are moved by the dancing and shouting.
Draw Me Nearer and Blessed Assurance are 2 of my favourites.

you worsened the situation by bringing a very angelic soul (that should have remained in heaven singing hossana) in the form of a child, into your pathetic life.

Family › Re: How Do Americans Raise Their Babies Without Househelps? Unlike Nigerians? by Arielle: 7:52pm On Jul 07, 2022
NigerianAngelo:
Please tell them. Many of them typing with speed and authority whereas they don't know the country.

My question is: How do Americans take care of children 0-14 months old, on a day to day basis. (There are 330m Americans in the US, at least 90m families). How? The Chinese as well? Can Nigerians explain?

Do all them have nannies, baby sitters? From what time to which time daily? All of them? To what extent could Nigeria copy that. Bc upon all, America remains the most productive nation with $76,000 per capita.

We must stop Nigerians from seizing people's 12y olds. Children must leave with their parents till at least 18y. Not where some seemingly good looking person will be making the child sleep on kitchen floor. They profit nothing by staying with you. They were feeding and schooling before they came to your place.
Kobo is right. Only the wealthy or upper middle class can afford maid, au pairs, housekeepers and nannies. Babysitters are only used occassionally, maybe when the parents need to be out and can't leave the kids by themselves. These services are super expensive and they are so many additional costs like healthcare.
Some lower class women, mostly single mothers, sometimes have arrangements with neighbours where they leave the kids to go to work, and they pay the woman for the hours they are away. But it is way cheaper than employing someone full time and live in like we do in nigeria.
Also, abroad, there are some benefits the stay at home mum can collect from the government. So the couple can and often choose to let the woman stay home and raise the kids. Show me a nigerian wife, except the super rich, that can stay home to raise the children. 2 income families are the norm in nigeria.
Thirdly, nigerian men do not lift a finger to help out. Let his wife tell him to help take out the trash and put it outside for collection if she no go collect.
The truth is, labour is cheap in nigeria and unregulated. There are no social safety nets for young couples who have to resort to extra help to enable both of them go out to work.
Another thing, which we don't like to say, is that the cheap labour has made us nigerians somewhat lazy. We hire people for jobs around the house that we don't want to do. In the UK I learnt to be my own plumber, electrician, carpenter, gardener. These guys are super expensive, unlike in nigeria. DIY is a huge industry, especially in the US, and there are all manner of tools to help a guy be a handyman around his home. In fact, a tool shed or a space in the garage to store tools, is a very common part of american homes.

Two02:
Safety is very important I don't understand how a primary school would have a swimming pool, I've never bought the idea. They might say it's for physical and health education and development, but it doesn't change the fact that sufh idea is a very foolish one, even as an adult I'm so scared of water bodies, it scares the hell out of me, I wouldn't lie.

If I were to advice swimming lessons should be for teenagers and not five year olds. The swimming instructors must be dealt with for their negligence to duty. This is a very terrible incident. I don't understand why teachers of nowadays are so negligent.

Besides that I believe primary schools shouldn't have swimming facilities. I won't allow my child play in the bathtub talkless of swimming pool. Even if primary schools where to have swimming pools there should be an instructor there, I don't even support primary schools having storey building structures talkless of swimming pools
I think the incident happened in a hotel or so, if I'm not mistaken. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Infant aquatic programs are popular. There are special classes for parents and their babies, to teach them. But it is generally thought that the best age for children to learn swimming is 4 -6 years.

Family › Re: I Hate My Life, I'll Make Sure My Father Suffers At Old Age. by Arielle: 8:50pm On Jul 04, 2022
Fashdeejay:
The mistake being made with this line of reasoning is that you hatred doesn't stop the man from doing what he wants to do, but it limits you from reaching your potential because you are too distracted with hating your father for something he is doing when you can let the hatred go and focus on yourself.
My father eventually understood his mistakes at the end but it was a little bit late to start rectifying most because he had missed out on the time.... But he passed on a happy man with his children around him... That brought me peace. The African mentality as you put it isn't damaged... I will clearly tell you this as someone who has spent time living in the US and in Nigeria, we are better off when it comes to our mentality.... You think the whites don feel entitled? People will mess up and that is only natural, no matter the skin color, no matter their position in your life, even you will mess up when you have your own children, the major thing is being able to accept that you have messed up and you are ready to make amends. Hatred doesn't affect anyone else but the person who is doing the hating... It limits them...
No matter how bad a father is ..... His blood is your blood and if you want to go western about it, then understand the concept of "blood is thicker than water"... My independence was borne out of my drive to do better and be better.... That didn't change his title over me... My father! I picked the aspects of him that made him special and worked on myself not to be like him the way he wasn't.
If the OP is focused on hating rather than doing better he will only end up like his father... So my 2 cents? Let him work toward being better ..... And learn to live and let live.
Who are you and how did you get so wise? You should be mentoring people.

Politics › Re: Atiku Changed His Name From Siddiq, Earned A Masters Degree With GCE Results by Arielle: 1:18pm On Jul 03, 2022
GreatAxeMan:
The answer is simple. Siddiq sat for the GCE in 1965 and Atiku "bought" the certificate from him.

As for his "degree" from East Anglia Ruskin University, it has a reputation as a "diploma mill" meaning an institution that sells degrees to the highest bidder. There was a scandal in the nation of Guyana were a politician called Irfan Ali used a fake degree from the University of East Anglia Ruskin to get political office.
University of East Anglia is different from Anglia Ruskin University. Irfaan Ali used a suspicious certificate from an unheard of school called West Coast Demerara Institution in an attempt to register for his first masters degree in India. I don't know what happened subsequently in that case.
Maybe Atiku bought that certificate from someone because they share the same last name. Its easy to determine. Check his birth records.
But I could have sworn I saw an old picture of Atiku with his classmates from uni somewhere online.

That’s the right thing to do. Kwankwaso has more voting strength than Obi, hence, it is only reasonable that Obi becomes the vice and from there, he can succeed Kwankwaso after 4 or 8 years. It is the shortest cut along with PDP for an Ibo man to become president of Nigeria.

Our brothers in the SE will not believe this but Obi can never win this election. I am happy to put a bet on it closer to the election.
How in earth can Kwankwaso have more voting strength? Who knows Kwankwasiya outside Kano? Who knows him in the South?

Vote whoever you want, if you like vote because someone is from your tribe, but be rest assured that most likely, you and I won't get enriched when the man from our tribe becomes the president.

However, you and I will gain economically, educationally, etc... when we vote the man that have a better plan for the masses, and not for himself and his gangs.

That being said, vote whoever you want, nobody is asking you to vote for PO. Also, voting for PO is not doing favour to the Igbos. If he's good, you and I will enjoy it, if he turns out to be bad, all of us will suffer it still.

Marriage is not a prison.

If you found out you can't continue, you bows out tongue.
But why, though? Marriage is not meant to be a complete walk in the park. It is hard work. Some of my friends have said marriage is not meant to be endured, it is meant to enjoy. I agree but I feel one must put in the work to enjoy. And in all of that enjoyment, there is sacrifice, understanding, tolerance, sometimes even ignoring some faults. It doesn't make one a fool. We work hard at our jobs, growing our careers or businesses. We put in the crazy hours, bear the inconveniences and horrible bosses to learn, experience and grow. As we do, we reap the fruits of our labour. Why should marriage, the most important relationship, be any different? Young people are too ready to throw in the towel when things get difficult. If it is not physical abuse or verbal abuse of the cruelest sort, then couples should put in the work to make it succeed

A lot of these trees, especially those that form tunnels or avenues, were specially planted. Even that we can't take care of.

the irony is that Sonia Ekeremadu's renal failure was being managed in the uk,

the UK of NHS and free health care
even if it was not free, her father clearly has enough money from his days as a politician

they were not based in the US, where out of control capitalistic health costs can immediately bankrupt you

her privileged circumstances, and the country in which she was based, meant that her kidney issues would be more of a managed inconvenience than a death sentence

we all know of different nigerians back home who have been financially wiped out after a few dialysis treatments.

so, quite simply, the one circumstance in her life when there was no choice but to get line like any other plebe, where wealth, position and connections meant nothing, was too much to bear, and now here we are

and of course, Nigerians, for all their complaints, actually celebrate oppression, which is why they refuse to see the power dynamic between ekeremadu and one construction worker.

unless Davis was a family friend, or a person from a similar background as the ekeremadus, this will always look like exactly what it is, a big man chancing a street urchin.

anyone who suddenly feels generous, please note, there are hundreds of desperately poor nigerians back home, who your kidney will serve far better than Sonia Ekermadu

Nothing is contradictory. People simply heard that Ekwerenmadu attempted to harvest someone’s organ and they all crucified him instantly. Killing for ritual purposes is rampant in our society, so many then drew the conclusion that Ekwerenmadu was a ritualist. The press went straight to business. His political enemies went straight for his neck.

Now we have heard the story on the other side. The boy himself has told us his own side. Ekwerenmadu has filed a suit before Justice Ekwo asking for the release of vital information that would show the world that he was transparent at all times.

The boy’s neighbors have commented. The boy apparently changed his mind, having japa(d) from Nigeria and was requested to return home, as his kidney did not match. The UK police would try to protect the young man, at least for now. If he loses that case, na handcuff e go carry return to Nigeria.
Please where did you hear the boy's story? He is in the care of social services and you imagine they will allow access to press or social media? Any so-called identity that has been uncovered within Nigeria, I will not believe until the boy has been released by the UK authorities and his identity confirmed by them. Anything else is just the usual Nigerian attempt by paid bloggers and media to murky the waters. That is the sad reality of what Nigeria has become, that its citizens would rather believe a foreign government than its own people. We have all learnt the hard way that Nigerian politicians are liars, thieves and mostly criminals who would do anything for their own convenience and to smoothen their path. It is the singular reason why our country has become the cesspit that it is.

The ekeremadus have simply paid different bloggers to plant different stories

It is nothing we haven't seen before

This is how James ibori also produced documents back then to show it was a different ibori convicted for petty theft.

They are already gaming the Nigerian court of public opinion. Most Nigerians now believe that there is no harm no foul because David is an adult who was 'fully aware of what he was doing' and is an ungrateful thief who took the opportunity to set his 'benefactors' up

" after all we did for you - we brought you on an all expenses paid trip to the uk - we paid to xxxxx naira! we took ypu from the slums for a sightseeing trip in the UK! this is how you choose to repay our kindness to you!"

The memes about poor thieves being burned and rich thieves being celebrated are true.

There is no real difference between this and the frequently reported ritual organ harvesting.

The difference here is that this is white collar organ harvesting by a big man with a pen.

Authority stealing.

I believe in giving everyone a chance, as long as they are sincere about giving a good account of themselves. Sometimes it takes someone who has really been down in the trenches and lived a controversial life to make a complete and honest turn around. Look at Angelina Jolie.
So I would advice Tonto to work on dispeling the negative impression she has created:
Less social media drama. In fact, keep your private life private.
Stop that ridiculous dressing up as a man on Fathers day. Its self serving and attention seeking and you're embarassing your child.
Make up with the father of your son. For his sake. Apologise to him, if you have to, no matter what happened between both of you. Respect him as the father of your son so your son can have his father in his life. Accept his new wife, even if they fvcked around and decieved you. Its called stooping to conquer.
Grow up and stop fighting with people. You're a lady. Act like one.
And stop dressing this cash madam dress in your campaign pictures. People will mistrust you and your motives, especially given your reputation. Be simple but sophisticated and classy. You're a naturally beautiful woman without all the embellishment.
Carry out serious political engagement and solid community work through your foundation, not photo ops.
That's my take. Maybe in another 8 years you would have built an enviable profile.
Good luck
