CulturePython: The Goddess Living With People Under Same Roof by arinze198(op): 8:29am On Apr 23, 2018
It might sound strange but it has been confirmed that in some Igbo communities that people harbour and live with pythons under the same roof as they were seen as goddesses of the land.

Being seen deities, they were given different names in the communities such as Eke, Nwadiala, Nnanyi, Ikputu, depending on the level of reverence in a particular community.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the snakes were revered in the land to the extent that if they were mistakenly killed, the killers were said to be considered to have committed murder; something abominable and must perform certain rituals to appease the gods to avoid calamity in the land.

Apart from appeasing the people and the gods through certain rituals, the killer must conduct a proper burial ceremony just as done for human beings which included buying coffin, clothes, digging grave, buying palm wines, alligator pepper and kolanuts etc to make for a decent burial.

Read http://pmexpressng.com/python-goddess-living-people-under-same-roof/

P.M.EXPRESS investigations revealed that the sacredness of the pythons were so deep to the extent that it cut across both the traditional worshippers, Christians and other religious beliefs, in as much as such persons were sons and daughters of the soil in such areas.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that such communities where those beliefs were still sacred were communities in Aguata and Idemili Local government areas of the Anambra State. Some of the towns mentioned in Aguata included Umuchu, Uga, Amesi, Ekwulobia, Umuomaku, Achina, Aguluezechukwu, Akpo, Igboukwu, Nanka and many others.
It was also gathered that in Idemili Local Government area, it was also a taboo to kill the pythons in towns like Obosi, Abatete, Ideani, Umuoji, Ogidi and others.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that there was a mystery between the python and the people which can be traced to the days of their forefathers and the people had imperial proofs to show and believe.

Some of the leaders in the communities visited told P.M.EXPRESS that the pythons do not harm the people where they were considered as deities despite the fact that they were poisonous and can cause death when they bite victims.

One of the community leaders in Umuchu town, Ichie Peter Aginam attempted to offer an explanation on what happens between the people and the python which he described as a bond he was unable to trace its origin. Ichie Agina said that when the python mistakenly bites a son of the soil, it will sigh and the poisonous venom will immediately be neutralised and it will not harm such person.

However, Ichie Aginam revealed that it was not so with the people from communities like Umunze town in Orumba North Local government area, where such bites may result to death for the fact that they do kill and eat the python. Ichie Aginam was unable to trace the genesis of the affinity between the python and the people but described it as a bond that has not been broken.

When asked what will happen if one kills the python and secretly buries it without informing any person, he said that strange calamities will befall such person, he will be forced to confess and perform the required rituals. Ichie Aginam further said that despite civilisation and development, that the people still held the belief and avoided going against but concluded that it was not idol worship.

However, some of the people do not maintain such beliefs. Some said that it was an old belief that had been overtaken by modern events and as such was no longer prevalent in some communities. Some others said that they will not deliberately kill the python as a form of confrontation against the belief because they do not know the secret behind the relationship between it and their forefathers that made it so.

In the petition Antonio alleged that the suspect had been claiming and posing as an employee of the Embassy of Greece and had fraudulently obtained huge sums of money from unsuspecting Nigerians seeking visa to travel to Europe by promising to make visa procurement easy for them.

On getting the information, the Lagos CP deployed crack detectives from the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) to fish out the culprit and his accomplices. The detectives swung into action immediately following the order. They were able to locate the suspect’s hideout and carried out a sting operation on him.

During the operation, some Nigerian passports, laptops and other visa related documents were recovered from the suspect’s operational base. Further scrutiny of the laptop confirmed that there were documents in the notepad that had different embassy visas and their respective price tags. It was also seen that the said Samuel Olowobola Gboyega had made false presentations through publications on his website: www.kukutravels.com attaching the name of Embassy of Greece to it.

The CP noted with sadness that the activities of the young man had dented the image of the nation and greatly embarrassed the Embassy of Greece in Nigeria. He warned people behind this kind of crime to have a rethink or have the law to contend with.

Meanwhile, the suspect has been charged to court for forgery, impersonation and fraud.

CrimeWoman Injures Maid With Hot Iron by arinze198(op): 6:11pm On Mar 11, 2018
The Lagos State Police Command on Friday 9th March 2018, recorded another case of man’s inhumanity to man. This time around it was between one Mrs. Nkeiruka Ngwu – a 36-year old mother of four children residing at #47 Ogundana Street, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, and her 10-year old house help, Miss Chioma Samuel.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect now in police custody, brought the victim to Lagos from Umuoju, Ngwu in Abia State sometime in January 2018 after the death of the poor girl’s father. Rather than keeping to the promise of giving her a better life which she made to the poor girl before she was handed over to her, Nkeiruka Ngwu made life a living hell for the child.

She was mentally and physically abused with many injury marks to show for them. Her latest tale of woe was recorded on Wednesday 7th of March, 2018 when the suspect allegedly used a well heated pressing iron to cause grievous injuries on the victim’s hands and legs. She also poured hot water on her which peeled her skin.

However, on Thursday 8 March, 2018, Nkeiruka’s cup of iniquity got filled up. She brought her children to a private school located somewhere in Ikeja, unfortunately for her the prying eyes of other mothers who came to drop off their kids noticed the gaping wounds on the upper and lower limbs of the victim who accompanied the suspect to the school.

After questioning the girl, the mothers waited for her madam who had gone to drop her kids in their different classrooms. When she was done and was about to drive off, she was confronted by the women who nearly mobbed her. They were calmed by some teachers who heard their piercing voices as they rented the air. The women told Nkeiruka to take the girl to a hospital or else they will petition the Lagos State Commissioner of Police whom Lagosians have come to know as one who takes strong stance against such crimes and other related crimes against children, women and vulnerable persons in the society.

Despite their warnings to report her to the authorities, Mrs. Nkeiruka Ngwu like the proverbial dog that wouldn’t hearken to its master’s clarion call when death is lurking around the corner, stubbornly came to the school on Friday 9th March, 2018, accompanied by the child victim whose wounds were manifestly untreated.

On seeing that their warnings were taken for granted, the women made good their promise to call the attention of the Commissioner of Police,Lagos State to the matter. The CP immediately ordered for the arrest of the woman and directed the Gender Section of the Command to take the victim to police hospital for proper treatment. They are to ensure that the girl is fed very well until the Social Welfare Department of the Lagos State Government comes for the girl .

Investigations into the case are in progress. Meanwhile Nkeiruka will have her day in the court of law on Monday 12th March, 2018.

AgricultureThailand To Shut 7 Rice Mills Because Of Nigeria by arinze198(op): 2:16pm On Mar 03, 2018
Thailand has accused Nigeria of being responsible for the collapse of its seven rice mills following the drastic fall in rice importation from the country.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh made this known at a meeting of the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative ( PFI ) and leadership of the Fertiliser Producers and Suppliers of Nigeria ( FEPSAN ) held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday.

The meeting was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Read http://pmexpressng.com/thailand-shut-7-rice-mills-nigeria/

Ogbeh said Thailand’s Ambassador to Nigeria made the “accusation’’ when he visited him in February.

According to the minister, the ambassador lamented that the collapse of the rice mills has increased the unemployment rate in his country from 1.2 per cent to 4 per cent.

“Just like two weeks ago, the Ambassador of Thailand came to my office and said to me that we have really dealt with them.

“But I asked what did we do wrong and he said unemployment in Thailand was one of the lowest in the world, 1.2 per cent, it has gone up to four per cent because seven giant rice mills have shut down because Nigeria’s import has fallen by 95 per cent on rice alone.

“So, Mr President we thank you for the support and we thank all the agencies and those of you in the private sector for your resilience,’’ he said.

The minister, however, alerted the nation on what he described as alarming smuggling of fake fertilizer and rice along the western borders of the country.

He, therefore, called on the Federal Government to take drastic measures to check the trend as all previous diplomatic measures had failed to address the menace.

“But one last request Mr President, we have to take one strong measure against our neighbour to the West. The smuggling is really compromising our capacity on our result.

“Too much rice, too much fake fertilizer is still coming across the borders into this country in spite of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) we have with them they are not listening.

“Maybe if the Federal Government take one tough action, they will come and renegotiate the terms because good neighbourliness means reciprocity.

“We can’t be allowing them to survive at our own expense and I believe that we will do something about it,’’ he said.

Ogbeh appealed to FEPSAN to adjust their blending formula using little more micro nutrients for some crops like cocoa, cashew, plantain, banana and others that would soon be revived by his ministry.

The minister noted that the agricultural sector had created millions of jobs for Nigerians in the last two years.

He said: “People may say what they like about jobs. Recently I heard that we lost four million jobs. Nobody has calculated the millions and millions of jobs created on the farms.

“So, this programme as it grows can only make us stronger.

“As soon as more dams and lakes are put in place, you begin to sell fertilizer all year round and not wait for the rainy season alone.”

CultureOhanaeze Ndigbo Sanction Woman For Wearing Trousers To Meeting by arinze198(op): 11:41am On Mar 03, 2018
An Igbo woman, Mrs. Esther Nweke who went to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Social Cultural meeting wearing a trouser, got what she did not bargain after she was nominated to say prayer at the meeting in Lagos.

The traditional rulers, chiefs and other leaders present at the meeting sighted her with her trouser and immediately ordered her to stop the prayer and pronounced that she had committed an abomination.

However, Mrs. Nweke insisted that since she had been nominated to say the closing prayer she would go on. The leaders walked out of the venue of the meeting insisting that they will not partake in such prayer which will attract curses on them.

This caused serious amusement and embarrassment to other women who were present at the meeting.
Even the host, the traditional ruler of Ndigbo in Alimosho LGA, Eze Lawrence Eze did not participate in the prayer and had to turn his back on Mrs. Nweke in order not to be part of the prayer.

P.M.EXPRESS asked why the woman was treated in such a manner. Some of the leaders insisted that Mrs. Nweke had committed an abomination by wearing trousers to the Ohanaeze meeting, talk less of praying in the meeting which they claimed was against the culture and tradition in Igbo land.

It was gathered that her appearance may attract further sanctions to serve as deterrent to other women who might try such in the further.

Eze Lawrence Eze summoned the meeting of the Igbo leaders to proffer solutions to the lingering crises in Alimosho LGA CDAs over the years.
It was gathered that the Igbo people in the LG were divided as such every unit had to form their owner Ohanaeze group; to the extent that the monarch found it difficult knowing who to deal with among the factions.

At the meeting the leaders agreed to unite, pursue a common goal and resolved to set up a committee to look into the crises and resolve them finally.
It was at the meeting that Mrs. Nweke was nominated to say the closing prayer that another problem came up and the women at the meeting were not happy over the ugly incident.

However, it was gathered that in any Igbo social gathering that married women were not supposed to wear trousers to attend such meetings. The women were expected to tie their wrappers signifying that they were married and responsible, but it turned out that such rules were not complied with in the cities.

PoliticsDapchi: The Bogus Claim By Nigerian Airforce by arinze198(op): 11:42pm On Feb 28, 2018
Contrary to the reports in the media that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed at least 100 fighter jets towards the search for the 110 schoolgirls abducted on February 19, 2018 in Dapchi, P.M.EXPRESS findings showed it was a bogus claim.

The Nation newspaper had reported that 20 of the jets have flown 200 hours as at late Monday, February 26, according to a fact sheet on the search released by Lai Mohammed, the Information Minister. The report also quoted Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser (NSA), who visited Governor Ibrahim Gaidam in Damaturu, the Yobe state, on Tuesday, February 27, as announcing that 80 other planes would join the search for the girls.

“The Nigerian Air Force has deployed 20 aircraft in Maiduguri and 80 others on their way. So far, 200 hours have been utilised in flying sorties looking for these girls. “We have also been made aware of the fact that the Nigerian Air Force will step up its operation regardless of the very hard and severe weather condition.” “Back in Abuja, we have set up our own machinery in dealing with this situation. All the security agencies have been working together. “The situation room has been expanded – the one in the office of the National Security Adviser that is linked directly to all other security agencies but most importantly to the theatre command over here. “I have made efforts with my counterparts across the region to try and work and share intelligence together and see how quickly we can bring to an end this very unfortunate situation. “But, apart from that, we are also looking at other measures in dealing with past occurrences and how to forestall any future occurrence. “The government will continue to push harder, dealing with all organisations – local and international – and engaging with every group that comes forward to see that these girls are brought back safely to their parents. This is a commitment that the government has made,” he said.

P.M.EXPRESS findings showed that since the inception of the Nigerian Airforce, the total number of fighter planes in its inventory is not up to 100; talk less of this huge deceit of the Nigerian public.

The abduction of the school girls is definitely being politicized by this bogus claim by the Airforce. The Minister of Defence should therefore call the Airforce to order for this flagrant display of lack of integrity in pursuit of national security. Let the Nigerian Airforce come up with their inventory that clearly is in public domain.

Not too long ago, P.M.EXPRESS had refuted claims in the media by the Nigerian Airforce that fighter jets were procured from Pakistan for the fight against insurgency, while they only received primary training airplanes. The Nigerian Airforce remains a respected military institution and should only feed the public with the right information about their activities.

P.M.EXPRESS scooped that Ebi initially married her husband (name withheld), they resided at Joseph Street in Ejigbo and had three children. Mr. Phil also resided in the same area and was a close friend of Ebi’s husband. It was gathered that Ebi’s husband had a quarrel with her and confided in his friend, Phil who pretended to have waded in to settle their rift.

However, it turned out that it was a ploy to take Ebi from his friend after what later happened that eventually destroyed Ebi’s marriage. The Bayelsa State-born Phil rented an apartment at Ijegun and made Ebi to abandon her husband and their three children and started living with him. Phil and Ebi then had three children together.

Both Phil’s friends and parents condemned the relationship and asked Phil to leave his friend’s wife for him but he refused claiming that Ebi was not in love her husband again and that it was him that she really loved and she had peace of mind with since she started living with him.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Phil’s parents continued to warn him of the danger in snatching another man’s wife talk less that of his friend but he did not listen until his parents died last two years. It was gathered that after some time, Phil’s business started falling and eventually collapsed. He was unable to pay house rent, he then moved and started living inside a white garment church at Ijegun area where the church eventually exposed the atrocity.

According to Phil, “the prophet told me that I will suffer, suffer and have little time to live on earth because of the abomination i committed with Ebi by snatching her from her husband.”
He said that it was after the prophecy, that he realised what he was doing, he was in great fear and therefore fled from her. Since then he had not returned to his house and had asked Ebi to return to her husband with the children.

P.M.EXPRESS confirmed that Phil was now staying at his sister’s place at Agege area of Lagos praying and begging God for mercy and forgiveness.
However, Ebi was yet to take any decision as she was said to have still remained in the church premises hoping that Phil will still come back.

Christianity EtcBilly Graham Dies At 99 by arinze198(op): 5:55pm On Feb 21, 2018
Billy Graham – the famed evangelist who became known as “America’s Pastor,” has died at the age of 99.
Graham died at his home Wednesday morning from natural causes, a family spokesman told ABC News.
Born in 1918 in Charlotte, North Carolina, William Franklin Graham Jr. was the oldest of the four children of William and Morrow Graham. He was raised on a dairy farm, and little in his childhood suggested he would become a world-renowned preacher.
Then at 16, Graham attended a series of revival meetings run by outspoken evangelist Mordecai Ham. The two months he spent listening to Ham’s sermons on sin sparked a spiritual awakening in Graham and prompted him to enroll at Bob Jones College. When the conservative Christian school’s strict doctrine didn’t align with his personal beliefs, he transferred to the Florida Bible Institute (now Trinity College of Florida) and joined a Southern Baptist Convention church. He was ordained in 1939

Graham received additional training at Illinois’ Wheaton College, where he met his future wife, Ruth McCue Bell. They were married for 64 years, until her death in 2007, and had five children.
After serving briefly as the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Western Springs, Illinois, Graham launched his first radio program, “Songs in the Night,” in 1943. Although he left a year later, Graham liked the idea of sharing his message with a wide audience. As noted on his website, Graham took Jesus Christ literally when he said in Mark 16:15: “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.”
Graham was still in his early 30s when entered the public spotlight by giving a series of well-attended “sin-smashing” revival meetings that were held under a circus tent in a Los Angeles parking lot. The press took interest in the charismatic young preacher and began writing articles about him. To get his message to even more people, Graham founded his own ministry, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

Graham viewed the Bible as the infallible word of God. He believed that Jesus led a sinless life and that all men were lost and would face God’s judgment. Most importantly, he was convinced he must use “every modern means of communication available” to spread the Gospel throughout the world, and did so in print, on radio and television, online and in person.
Graham’s sermons promoted evangelism and railed against “godless communism,” drugs, sex and violence. And for the next five decades, his electric personality connected with audiences in more than 185 countries.
Graham was the first evangelist of note to speak behind the Iron Curtain, and during the Apartheid era he refused to visit South Africa until the government allowed integrated seating at his events. He published dozens of best-selling books, including Angels: God’s Secret Agents and The Jesus Generation, and wrote a weekly column that was syndicated in hundreds of newspapers

Graham received numerous honors, including the Horatio Alger Award, the George Washington Honor Medal, the Ronald Reagan Freedom Award and the Congressional Gold Medal. A highway in Charlotte bears his name, as does part of Interstate 240 near his home in Asheville, North Carolina. In 1989, he became the first clergyman to be granted a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work as a minister.
Graham also had a major effect on the civil rights movement of the 1950s and ’60s. His early crusades were segregated, but once the U.S. Supreme Court issued its landmark Brown v. Board of Education ruling in 1954, which found public school segregation unconstitutional, Graham integrated the seatings at his revival meetings.
Graham befriended the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. as well, and together they preached to more than 2 million people in New York City. When questioned about his views on faith and race, Graham argued there was no scriptural basis for segregation.

As his message spread, Graham was granted personal audiences with royalty, dignitaries and many sitting presidents, from Harry S. Truman to Barack Obama. Three presidents were even on hand in 2007 for the dedication of the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte. Despite being a registered Democrat, Graham opposed the candidacy of John F. Kennedy, and actively encouraged other religious leaders to speak out about the dangers of having a Roman Catholic in the White House.
Though beloved by millions, Billy Graham was not without his detractors. Some fundamentalist Christians took issue with his ecumenical approach to evangelism, and after his 1957 crusade in New York, opponents of Graham’s more liberal theology began calling him “the Antichrist.” According to the biography Billy: A Personal Look at Bill Graham, the World’s Best-Loved Evangelist by Sherwood Eliot Wirt, one Christian educator even said that Graham was “the worst thing to happen to the Christian church in two thousand years.” More recently, detractors blasted Graham’s continued belief that homosexual behavior was a “sinister form of perversion,” and his intolerance against the very presence of gay and lesbian couples within Christianity.
As his health began to fail, Billy Graham decided to announce his retirement in 2005. His final sermon,“The Cross ― Billy Graham’s Message To America,” called for a national spiritual awakening.
